Aludra held the small girl close, half-seated in the crook of one of his arms as he traversed the city streets, glancing down every now-and-again at a sheet of paper that he held in his opposite hand before once again using that arm to secure the small child to his chest. The girl's small, short-fingered hands tensed softly on the portion of his hoodie that she could reach, one of said hands managing to have grabbed a hold of the string that cinched the hood. No wonder the hood -which he wasn't currently wearing- had been tightened like a sachet around the top. But Aludra was sure to pay careful attention to where that piece of cloth was, being slightly nervous as a result of an unfortunate child care class that he was currently taking in school; string/rope/anything similar did not normally merge well with infants.

The paper, in case anyone was curious, held the address of a fairly well-off yet small house that was a good few miles away from his current home. Considering that he know had a daughter to take care of and -sigh!- a Lirona to be dating, not to mention the size of Noah's apartment, he was realizing that moving out might be the best idea for them. As such, he was working on securing a good little house for he and Demetre to move into, big enough to support the both of them and, if he was lucky, an additional third member. Of course, he was still planning on waiting an appropriate amount of time. Namely, until he grew again, though he had no way of knowing how long that would take. Otherwise, most of the people that he'd contacted said they wouldn't rent to him, which might become a problem once he reached the renting process.

In his exploring, he had only managed to make it further downtown, standing currently on a corner as he waited patiently for the light to change. It was while he was idly wondering how much money he had on him at that time that he noticed a pair of people on the street corner that he was about to cross onto. Blinking a couple times, he tipped his head, jumping a little at the sudden chirping noise that signaled his turn to cross traffic. Upon closer inspection, the two of them were a man and a... strange looking child, the man playing an acoustic guitar [well, duh, not like a lot of street corner symphonies involved electric guitars] and the child dancing to the beat of the music. There were paintings hung all around the two and, frankly, it almost seemed like live modern art. Or as though it would make good modern art. He couldn't quite tell.

Stepping slowly onto the concrete stoop, he looked down at the pair of them, feeling uncomfortable with such position or the description thereof. Doing whatever he could to make himself feel less like he was worlds above this small family of sorts, he offered up a faint smile, gesturing toward the paintings. "So what's all this?"

Despite the awkwardness that was evident in Aludra, Joseph smiled easily at the man who could quickly become a customer. The music continued without a hitch as he spoke, gesturing with his head to the paintings arranged around him and his foster son. "This is art, sir, or at least most of it is. Paintings and music by yours truly, asking only for appreciation and, if you're inclined, any donation. See anything you like?"

Ellery, however, was not the smooth character his father was, and so stopped dancing when the tall man and the girl came close. His eyes grew wide at how weird the man was, but he tried to disguise his curiosity behind a smile. He didn't want to scare the guy off, not if he was interested in buying something. His hooves clopped loudly as he scampered over to a certain favorite painting of his, showing it off shamelessly. "Yeah, yeah, buy som'fin, guy! Daddy's paints 'r the bestest! You- uh, you'll get a lotta chickies!" he added with an innocent grin. He had heard people selling silly things like cars with lies like that, so it would work for him, right?

When Ellery's eyes lighted upon the sleeping girl, a confused expression grew on his face. Who slept in the middle of the day? Especially when there was his dad's great music and paintings to see! A grumble grew in his throat and, having no social etiquette whatsoever, the boy proceeded to take a pebble from the ground and throw it at the girl. Not to injure, mind you, just to wake her up. A loud yell accompanied the gesture. "Hellloooo! Uppa-uppa, 'nd look at dis! These are pwetty paints fer you ~!"

Joseph was rightfully horrified when he saw Ellery's actions, and he swept him into his arms, holding him tightly despite the young one's protests. If he cost him this customer... A smile was forced onto his face as he looked up at Aludra, apology shining in his eyes. "God, I am so sorry. He's still young, and he's, y'know, a boy, can't quite help it. I promise he meant well, he's just..." The ramble ended with a shrug and a half-hearted smile which didn't reach Joseph's heart. He could already see the money walking away...

Aludra couldn’t stop the slight chuckle at the redundant statement, something that seemed to be obvious. After all, why would the works be anything but art? Smiling softly, he let his eyes drift slowly across the different pieces of artwork, trying to find one that would suit his tastes. All things considering, it would make sense to buy some kinds of decoration, wouldn’t it? A new house, a new life, why not new kinds of décor just to make everything more… authentic?

It was while he was looking over the many different types of artwork that the small faun started speaking, and he jumped slightly, as though he hadn’t been anticipating speech from the little boy. At the suggestion, he laughed, a blush streaking across his otherwise pallor face. The smile turned sheepish relatively fast and he shrugged a bit. “Well, to be honest, my young friend, I’m not terribly interested in getting a lot of ‘chickies’. On the other hand, I do quite like your father’s paintings…”

But, as Aludra would soon discover, as calm and kind as the relaxed artist was, he wasn’t going to like the child anywhere near as much. Despite noticing only a moment too late what the small boy was doing, and trying to shield his little girl from the pebble, it was to no avail. The infant awoke in his arms, her crystal blue eyes snapping wide open for a moment, immediately filling with tears. Quietly, she hunkered down into a little ball in her father’s arms, burying her fists in her eyes to rub at the tears that fell from them, soft, quiet sobs falling past her lips.

Aludra, the new and terrified father that he was, couldn’t choose between fury and comfort at the moment. As such, he decided that the effortlessly cruel little faun would still be there to face his wrath, and that his sleeping beauty was the more pressing matter at hand. Still sending a sharp glare at the furred boy, he hugged the little girl close, softly stroking her hair and cooing to her gently. At the frantic apologies and restraint of the boy that the man then demonstrated, Aludra pulled a forced smile onto his face, shaking his head.

“I understand. I have no reason to discriminate against your business as a result of your son’s actions, do not worry. Though I would advise some kind of… prevention against what he just did in the future, as I’m sure that some people would not be quite as understanding,” Aludra responded, tail flicking irritably behind him. Rest assured, that little brat wasn’t going to be his first choice of playmate for the sweet little girl in his arms. “And I have also decided that there are a good few of those paintings of yours that I fancy quite a bit,” he noted, gesturing with the tip of his tail toward a few of them; one that was streaked and thick with reds, blues, yellows and blacks; one that seemed to represent a sunset, though it was by no means an exact portrayal, despite the oranges, purples, and yellows that covered it. “Though I would also be quite interested in ordering commissions, if you are so inclined. I would pay handsomely.”
