 Today promised to be a long day. He had no idea why he hadn't succeeded in persuading Rukia that he wasn't going to be all that great at watching the kids by himself. No, correction, he did: cuz he always flailed and random syllables escaped his mouth when taking care of their five little ones on his own was concerned.
It wasn't that he didn't like them; quite the reverse. He absolutely adored each and every one of them. He just had no clear clue as to how to handle them and the mental images of how his own father had raised him and his two younger sisters floating through his brain was not helpful.
And it wasn't like Rukia didn't have a good reason to leave him with the kids. Word was out that the soulless Decepticons were passing nearby, so Rukia had gone to check on the situation as the Interim Commander. And while Rukia absolutely trusted her mate, this really was her responsibility.
Looking across the banks of the lazy, shallow river tributary flowing through the Seireitei Valley where he had brought the children to play, he saw no danger and that there was plenty for the kids to play with. Good. He needed a nap, so this would seem the time to tell Suzume and Kaien, as the eldest, to keep an eye on their younger siblings and play nice and safe.
"All right, squirts, I need a quick nap this morning, so you four are going to have to play on your own. Don't go so far that you can't see me, don't go playing in the river where the water touches your bellies, play nice, play fair, and listen to Suzume and Kaien. They're in charge until I wake up," he added as he sprawled on the ground under a spreading cherry tree. Kaien was most definitely excited for today. Spending time with their father hadn't happened a lot lately, since he had spent a lot of time patrolling the edges of the valley lately. Which meant that he hadn't had the time to have fun waking up his dad, a sport which definitely did not amuse Ichigo.
Grinning, despite his dad's strict warnings. "OK, Dad, you can sleep," he said, trying not to speak too fast, lest his dad figure out that Kaien was in the mood for having fun. Perhaps too much fun. Kaien was the responsible elder son, but he was mischevious, too. While he kinda liked being in charge and looking after others, he still rather enjoyed having fun.
Looking to his sisters, he asked, with a twinkle in his blue eyes, "What does everyone want to play?" He already was seriously considering getting everyone to play Hide and Seek with some kind of variation requiring speed.

 Kaoru was lazying about under a bush. Warming her belly with the heat. She faintly realized that her father was talking, the only part she heard was Suz and Kai are in charge. She sighed went back to her relaxing. Having no desire to play with Kai, he always picked on her. She was the youngest of her siblings and seemd to always be the butt of every joke.
"I'm not playing, I want to stay in this spot the whole day" She said and kept one eye on her brother. Knowng that he would probably try to get her to play some dumb game with him. She kept an eye on her father, admiring his mask. She has always wanted to play with it for some reason. Her father had let her wear it before, but he would always take it back when he went to hunt.

With the sun warm over her back, the pale colored pup looked around where their father had brought them. It was quite lovely and caused her eyes to grow wide to try and take in everything to once. Shaking her scruffy black mane of hair, Suzume watched their father wander to a good place to sleep. Poor papa had been working a lot these days and she had found fun in tormenting one of the younger captains of the seireitei. Even if the captain would always shoo her away and go back about his own business.
"Of course papa." Suzume nodded to her and Kaien to watch over the younger ones. Chest puffing out some she looked over towards Kaoru. "Come on you silly. Playing will be fun, the warm spot will be there when you are done." Marching over, she nosed at Kaoru, trying to get her to move, though her paws slipped by stepping on the teal colored scarf wrapped about her neck and draped over her back.

 Hotaru frowned, wishing Renji was around. He wouldn't take a nap, he'd teach her how to fight! Or watch her get pinned by one of her siblings, being the youngest and smallest. But she'd show them. She'd be the best of the best of the best. The bestestest. Yes.
Ugh, Suzume and Kaien were in charge? Boooring. Just because they were the oldest! Younger was better. "Let's wrestle," she said. "I bet I can take you all on."((Zolis, Hotaru is the youngest. Kaoru is fourth born, making her second youngest.))

Kaien raised an eyebrow. "You can beat me? That's funny!" he grinned, suppressing a little laugh. He loved 'Taru a lot, and respected her ideas, but he also viewed her as the adorable one who was, like their mom, SMALL, and therefore CUTE. "All right then, prove it, 'Taru." He tensed himself up for whatever 'Taru was going to pull to prove she could beat up her eldest bro.
Ichigo watched his eldest son and youngest daughter prepare for a tussel. "Oi, Kai, don't beat up your sister too badly, or your mother will throw a fit." Rukia had more patience than Ichigo, but when the blew up, she could definitely cow Ichigo.
Looking over toward where Kaoru was attempting to nap. "Kao, if you'd like a nap, you can nap with me." He said that with a straight face and then winced inwardly. Damn. That just sounded so wrong, thanks to his own dad. "Suzu, make sure Kai and 'Taru don't get too rough." Early after the kids had hatched, he and Rukia had developed nicknames for each. In order, they were Suzu (Suzume), Kai (Kaien), 'Gami (Tategami), Kao (Kaoru), and 'Taru (Hotaru).

Kaoru rolled over and helped her sister back up. "You shouldn't let that drag sister, you will keep falling" She pushed the scarf over her sister's back again so she wouldn't step on it. "And i don't want to play, Kai is mean. He will just pick on me."
Hearing her fahter she yipped and ran over to him, jumping on his back. "I'll nap first and play later" She said getting comft again. "I love you daddy, goodnight"

Suzume shook herself as the scarf was wrapped back where it belonged. Nosing at her sister again before watching her head over to their father. "Alright. She muttered to herself before looking back to Kai. "And you behave, Kai and you as well 'Taru. No playing too rough." Walking back over to the others, she sat to watch them, not overly wanting to get mixed into the 'play'. Just yet anyways.
With an eye on her napping family with the other on her two siblings, Suzume wondered how her brother and mother were doing. Seeings they had gone early in the morning, after all. With a half hearted sigh, Suzume hoped that someday she could accompany Rukia on a mission and have a little 'fun' along the way.

"You're going to get it so bad!" Hotaru growled. She raised her butt in the air and wiggled it a bit, considering.
Don't beat up your sister? Hotaru cringed somewhere deep inside. Just because she was little and just because she was the youngest, that didn't mean she was weak.
Kaien was going to get it. She was totally going to pound him into the dirt. "YEEEEEARRRRRGHH!" she shouted as she leaped in the air.

While Kaien enjoyed rough housing with 'Taru, as the little spitfire of the family, he was also very, very careful with 'Taru. And he also had enough of a competitive drive to not let 'Taru win. In a bizarre way, he told himself he was just training 'Taru to be able to protect her from the outside world. Even if he was currently the better fighter.
Grinning, he sidestepped the flying baby sister and made an attempt to grab the tail with his mouth, being very careful not to p***k her with his teeth. He'd get around to using teeth on her. Someday. Just not yet. Not while she was still ridiculously cute while attempting to maul him.
Ichigo smiled at Kao and nosed her a bit to make sure she was settled before turning to Suzu for a moment. "Suzu, c'mere, let's make sure your scarf isn't dragging on the ground."
'Gami had gone to help Rukia early that morning, since he was, so far, the calmest and quietest of the five. After that, it was a toss-up between Suzu, Kai, and Kao to see who would next earn the right to start learning about patrols, but it definitely wasn't going to be 'Taru. That was something nobody in the family had to discuss. She was going to be the small, cute one for a looong time, and she was also a spitfire. Definitely some good reasons to be patient with 'Taru. Good thing Kai never hurt 'Taru in their tussles, but it always paid to make sure.

Kaoru woke up and yawned, streching out her legs and shiking out her little tuff of bright orange hair. Glancing about she saw her siblings still playing and her father fast asleep. Kao nuzzled his face then lept off to join in with her siblings. Wandering up to Suzu she rubbed against her sister and flopped her butt onto the ground. "Did he hurt her yet?" She asked.
