It was coming time to leave. Not yet, but soon. Perhaps he was nervous, just a bit. He'd never been beyond the boarders of his pride before, though as a cub he spent lots of time learning and preparing. But it was not enough. There was more than watching from a distance, and more to the world than the territory he'd grown up in. He wanted to know more. And he wanted to know before he left the lands.

There were only a few people Anwar could ask, not everyone left the pride as often as he would want to know. A pad who left once and never again once he'd completed the rite of passage... he wouldn't know what Anwar wanted. Besides, he didn't wish anyone to realize he might be a little less than prepared. So that left him with an...interesting idea.

Mother had another son, one who was not his father's son. One who Anwar barely knew, one who'd only recently joined the pride. What stories, the young lion wondered, would his half brother have to share with him? What information might he be able to learn? And, best of all, who would suspect him speaking to his own sibling? No one needed to know he felt uncertain about the ceremony looming on the horizon, growing closer as his own pale mane grew in.

His decision made, Anwar padded towards the den he recalled belonging to Dahabu. It was time he paid his elder brother a visit...

Dahabu had been sharing stories with his younger daughter, the juvenile listening raptly till the end. And when he was done, the black and gold lion got up and shooed her out. "Come on...go join your mother and sister for lessons." The splotchy girl giggled and nodded, not needing to be told twice as she rushed out towards where her mother always held lessons. She slowed and bowed towards Anwar as she passed, always the respectful little Banu, then continued on.

Dahabu sat at the entrance to the den and kept a watch on his daughter, then looked to Anwar when she ducked out of sight. He recognized him as one of his younger half-brothers. The male smiled jovially and nodded to Anwar. "Good day, brother. What brings you to my den?" It wasn't often his mother's younger cubs visited him...usually it had been just Uggi when Ukoo was allowed to visit.

Anwar inclined his head, a reply to the polite little banu's greeting. His niece? That was still the proper term for a half-brother's child, yes? Probably. It hardly mattered, as he knew he certainly wouldn't have taken any relatives' cub as a banu, no matter what the proper term for the relationship was. He was far from stupid after all.

"Good day, brother," he returned, his coolness fading into a friendly smile. "I am Anwar, I know my brothers and I do look alike and we've not yet had opprotunity to meet in person," the young lion added, his steps light as he finished approaching his half-sibling's den. "I was merely wondering...what it was like where you came from?" Anwar asked after a moment, allowing his eyes to slide to the side in that shy uncertain way. "Mother doesn't speak of it often, though I have heard of you. I hoped you might...tell me?"

Dahabu nodded, glad to properly meet another of his half-siblings. "A pleasure to meet you in person, Anwar. In case you aren't familiar with my name, it is Dahabu." Among family, it wasn't needed to go by full, long names. He listened to his half-brother carefully, then nodded.

"Of course I will tell you. It was...better to me than it was to Mother." Despite his home being in the Ukuucha now, his blood would always carry the blessing of the Mwana. Thankfully, the curse had faded. "It was a dark place. Most of the lions there could not spend any time in the sun, lest it cause them harm. And blood was as needed to survive as meat. But, despite the darker tendencies of the pride, family was prized and every member looked out for one another." Usually. The flood had made things helter-skelter and they'd lost a few members, like his mother, because of it.
