Usually, I play flute for jazz band.. But this year my BD said I could try doing jazz bassoon. O 3O
It sounds fun to me, but I think it would be too odd. XD

That's...insane, ridiculous, preposterous, and completely unheard of in my knowledge of the band world.
Do it. And take videos of your performances/solos and post them here for all to see. 8D Don't let oddities stop you from doing fun things.

My Jazz director would hate jazz bassoon, unless it was for some specific piece that's so out there it's beyond comprehension.
We had one girl double on oboe a couple years ago. c:
Now, just don't march it. xD

O mi god. DO IT DO IT DO IT. <3 I play flute in jazz too...BD very reluctantly allowing me to do so, hah. Transposing is a b***h for me, though... Would you transpose alt sax as well? Or what, french horn? (I'm not bassoon expert at all, lol.)

We have basoon parts in a couple of sogns, but our "director" refuses to allow our basoon player to join jazz on basoon, or play it in jazz at all. It was funny though because she walked in right as our director pointed out there was a basoon part. BD: Oh look, theres basoon for this song. Basoon player: What?! BD: I mean...sorry, no basoon aprt. Basoon player: -_- You just said there was. BD: But i dont want you playign basoon in jazz. Basoon Player: Aw...*walks off*

I've heard of it, but never actually listened to any jazz bassoon.
This reminds me when we got my bassoon from one of the local music stores one of the employees there told us that there was a jazz bassoonist coming to town. Back then it was a completely foreign concept to me.
I still don't know how it would work, but my knowledge and experience with jazz is limited.
