Gintare was relieved to be out of the sandy desert lands which played host to so many threats to a girl's independence. She was even more pleased, however, to have found the watering hole where she remembered it being. Despite her pleasure, she did not immediately approach the watering hole. It was mid-morning, and with the sun approaching its zenith she knew there would be a number of animals who had come to cool off in the water. Most of the time these were prey animals, but not always. Sometimes there were other cats of various species, and other times there were hyenas. Tare didn't mind hyenas as much as many of her kind seemed to, but she didn't seek the smelly creatures out, either.
She sniffed the air tentatively, her nostrils and mind working together to sort out the different scents she took in with the air. No hyenas, and not much in the way of prey either, but that actually suited her purposes better. Thirsty as she was, Tare would drink first, but once she had drunk her fill she would walk into the water and try to get the worst of the dust and sand out of her coat that way. She hated licking both of those substances. The dust always turned to mud and the sand felt horrible on her teeth and never seemed to quite get out of her mouth. It was more difficult to get clean when panicked prey stirred up whatever silt was at the bottom of the pool.
As she'd expected, the smaller animals fled at her approach, but she ignored them effortlessly. She was Gintare, amber-eyed and unafraid. None of these lesser creatures could threaten her, and in the water the only dangers were crocodiles and hippopotamus, which she doubted were present. If they had been, the other animals would not be, she reasoned as she lowered her head and began to lap at the water, which always tasted sweeter coming out of the desert.

Crocodiles and hippopotamus might be absent, but the presence of another lion was not. Arindam, the traveling Brother, had stumbled upon the waterhole quite by accident, though it was typical. Wherever he happened to wander usually relied on accidents and serendipity. He had wandered a fair d distance from the pride of his friend Mzuka, travelling to try and find his dear brother. Who, of course, he found no sign of. Typical Adhiraj, always the impossible one. This game of hide and seek was wearing on the old soul, and he longed to just settle somewhere for a spell.
The waterhole, thus, seemed a perfect spot to settle for a little while. Not long, mind, but enough to rest his feet and gain his footing. He sniffed as he neared the watering hole, taking in the scattering pray. Another lion, no doubt. He could smell her from here, not in an unpleasant way, but in a familiar scent.
His eyes caught the dark pelt crouching beside the water. Momentarily stunned, he paused, and watched her. Then he shook his head and ventured forward, sidling up to the edge of the water a few yards away from the rogue lioness and dunking his whole head rather ungracefully into the water to cool himself.

It would have been impossible not to notice the lion's approach. For one thing, he was one of the only creatures not fleeing, which made him stand out among the lesser beasts. For another thing, he was a fine specimen of leonine figure. At least, he was until he dunked his head into the water. Then he just looked ridiculous.
Gintare sat back on her haunches to watch him. She didn't imagine for a moment that he hadn't seen her, and so she was trying to puzzle out what had prompted him to act as he had. It was entirely likely that he was showing her how very un-threatening he found her. She might have taken umbrage at that from anyone else, but this dark lion gave the impression of being one who was every bit as capable of caring for himself as Tare was. He might even be right, at that.
"Hey, good-looking," she called, self-confident as always, and teasing just a little. "I like your hair."

As Arindam pulled his head from the refreshing cold of the waterhole, he heard the lioness speak, and looked momentarily puzzled as he turned to face her. His hair? His eyes lifted upwards slightly, to the mane that was now sopping wet and hanging in his face. Grinning a little, almost chuckling as he realized what a sight he must look like to the pretty lioness, he shook his mane from his eyes and eyed her.
"You too." He said dryly, getting up and stepping closer to her. She didn't seem threatening, and even if she was worried for her sake, it was (he hoped) pretty evident that the only harm he meant was likely to be drowning in the waterhole of his own volition. "I'm Arindam. What's your name?" He eyed her curiously, grinning a little.
He rarely ran into rogues. It was even more rare to run into a rogue that wasn't all sorts of flashy colors. A true dark pelt was a beautiful thing, and this little lady was quite a sight for sore eyes. Briefly, he felt embarassed for thinking of the lioness that way, but he couldn't help himself. Something about her was just... brilliant.

Shaking his head did not really improve his coiffure. If anything, it made it worse, which only brought a more mirthful expression to Gintare's face. This was an unexpected treat. She would have been content simply to be out of the desert, but now she was being rewarded with eye candy and a comedic routine. Sometimes the gods were very good indeed.
"Handsome and chivalrous," Tare observed with a grin. "I'm very pleased to meet you, Arindam."
She was also very thirsty, and wouldn't have minded having more to drink, but the water would be there, and Arindam might not be. Flirting was infinitely more fun than performing the mundane task which was drinking. And besides, she knew in this place she was more likely to meet fellow rogues than pesars and pads on the hunt for new banu.
"I'm Gintare. You can call me Tare, though."
She waded into the water until it covered her paws and came lapped around her legs, darkening her coat so that it was nearly black. Not having a mane to manage, she knew that she could actually look good when wet. Sleek and shiny. Besides, she'd planned to submerge herself anyway.
"Sorry," she explained. "I've just come from the desert, and I'm afraid I don't smell so wonderful. Care to join me? The water's even more refreshing this way."

Arindam grinned. "Yeah, well, in the presence of a lady, one must always be handsome or chivalrous. Or, if they're clever enough, both." He winked at her, grinning despite his mane which was, probably, looking like a dead animal of some sort had take to hiding in his hair to avoid vultures. Thinking of the birds, he glanced up distractedly. He'd ran into one or two a time before, and it left a bad taste for the scavengers on his tongue. Then his baby blues turned back to the lioness, smiling.
"Gintare." He said idly, testing the name on his tongue. It was a pretty name. "I'm pleased to meet you, Tare." He smiled a little, watching her lower half disappear into the water. Her coat was even darker beneath the cool abyss. He followed the sleek line of her coat to her face, and grinned a little. "Don't know what you're talking about, Tare." He said even as he waded into the water, stepping closer to her and breathing in lightly.
"It's been a long time since I've smelled anything as beautiful." His eyes gleamed a little at her. This banter, flirting, it was a foreign notion to Arindam, but he couldn't seem to stop the words before they came out of his mouth. She didn't seem to mind, though. If he could make a pretty girl laugh, why shouldn't he?

"You must be exceedingly clever, then, to manage both so adroitly," Tare replied.
She feigned demureness as she lowered her head, ostensibly to lap at the water, but really so that she could look up at him from beneath half-lowered eyelids. This was turning very quickly into a seduction, and Tare didn't mind at all. And speaking of eyes, his were striking. That brilliant blue set against a dark pelt - and mostly hidden by his sodden mane - was just arresting.
She stood her ground as Arindam came closer, responding to her invitation more favorably than she would have hoped. As he drew nearer she tilted her head coquettishly to one side, exposing just a hint of her neck and throat in what was almost a gesture of submission with a strong side of "come and get it, big boy." She was feeling heated in spite of the water.
"Oh, I like you. You are very good for my ego, and you smell..." She stepped forward to close the gap between them and breathed deeply of his scent. "Not beautiful. But good. Very, very good."

"Well, I was practically bred for it." He replied with a devious grin. "My father was quite the charmer." That was a lie and a half, but there was nothing wrong with pretending it was true. "And my mother was all about being clever." He smirked. "It's practically bred into my blood."
The demureness wasn't necessarily bought, but it was... Cute wasn't the right word, but it was close enough for Arindam. There were more important things to attend to than vocabulary. He stopped just close enough to linger in her scent, eyes tracing over her fur, admiring the dark pelt as it blended into a slightly lighter brown and then, again, black as night beneath the cool water that surrounded them both.
Breathtaking. That was a good word for Tare. He bared his teeth a little as he eyed her exposed neck, a low rumble that was either a growl or a purr starting in his chest. The rumble gave way to a chuckle as she stepped closer, lowering his head to n** at her ear once she was close enough to. "I'll take a compliment when I can get it." He murmured, voice low and rough. She was intoxicating, like a drug, and it'd been a while since he'd let himself get that close to a girl.
She was just kind of girl, too, in almost every way. Any other circumstances, he might've been falling hard, but for now... Playing this game of seduction was just fine.

In truth, Tare wasn't much interested in Arindam's father or his mother. Neither of them were here, and that was fine by her. No parents should really play witness to their children being looked at the way Tare was looking at Arindam. It would probably be embarrassing for everyone involved. So they could be charming and clever someplace else as far as she was concerned.
She didn't care to bring parents into this. Parenthood was something she really didn't like to think about when she was feeling like this, so all she said was, "That explains it, then."
The rumble in Arindam's chest was so deep Tare imagined she could feel it in her own chest and resonating from there down her spine to her center, where it blossomed into slow-burning heat. Hearing that bassline made her want to drop into a crouch right there in the water and let him do with her what he would. She had no doubts, based on that sound, that he would know exactly what to do.
"You could take more than a compliment. If you wanted to," she said, twitching her tail to draw his attention to her hindquarters. Her words came out a trifle more breathlessly than she would have liked - a direct result of her heart palpitating and refusing to work in collusion with her lungs anymore. "I wouldn't make you work too hard for it."

At this point, Arin didn't give much of a damn about either of his parents. He was more interested in the willing, pliable, beautiful lioness brushing up against him. His tail twitched absently. He quirked a grin at her comment, but he didn't respond. It didn't need saying. They were both well beyond conversation, it seemed.
He followed the twitch of her tail right to where she'd intended his eyes to land, growling a little louder. He glanced at her, and grinned a little, brushing his head against Tare's lightly. "Don't think I won't take the offer, Tare." He warned lightly, knowing all too well that's exactly what she'd want: For him to take that offer. And he should. Hell, he wanted to. Consequences be damned, losing a few days of travel with this minx was well worth it.
"Sure you trust me?" Trust factored into it only a little, but it wasn't a deciding factor. He himself found his words coming out rougher, now that his attention wasn't on her face but was wandering all over her body, noting every little change in her body as a result of him. It was a powerful feeling, this effect he was having on her. He barely noticed the effect she was having on him because of it, the way the only thing he wanted to see was her dark fur. He smirked at her. "Sure you want this?"
It was the only time he'd ask.

There wasn't much left for Tare to say, and what there was to say, she said in one exhalation. "Yesss...."
