Ring rin-- 'hello?' click.
It had been like this for few hours now, heavy breathing followed... He probably had caller ID, or at least could trace the number, yet she couldn't bring herself to speak each time. Every time was the same, a new plan-- no, a new excuse for what to say to him. A reason to talk, but each time she heard that voice it was instantly stupid.
Deep breath... just do it-- the thoughts were the same too. Picking up the phone for the umpteenth time, hit redial-- murmuring to herself as she waited for it to ring. "Come on, you can do it... just... say hi..."

Ramiro sat by the phone now, perplexed at how exactly he should handle the situation. He knew who was on the other line, he'd dreamed about her voice every night since they had last spoken, but he did not want to risk scaring her away. So, with each sheepish call and hangup he said only "Hello" and waited for her to figure out what she wanted to say. The months had calmed him, Duncan was largely taking care of himself now and he was lonely. On the next call he tried again, saying as softly as he could, "Hello?"

Ready, here goes-- just say-- Hello?. She felt her heart jump into her throat... flutter in her stomach-- augh, like a teenager! It was so so ridiculous. "H-hey!" she managed to squeak forth this time... going lightheaded the second the word slipped free, as if it had taken all the air in her lungs to get it out. Oh but-- how to explain all the calls? "I um... I tried calling but my phone... kept going out..." stupid. "Eheh! Seems like its working now. Oh but um..." there was a lengthy pause, before a more confident, cocky voice announced itself-- an act, really. "You wanna grab a bite to eat?"
