With locks of copper hair that didn't quite reach her shoulders, and dimmer than usual blue eyes, the toddler princess was looking decidedly unhappy. Naturally she did. It had only been a week since she had learned of the deaths of two of her friends. Well, one of her friends, Feleti had been Alivia's betrothed. With her closest friend gone, the tiny princess was unsure what to do.
How could she have adventures without her sidekick? Who would read to her? Who would play with her? ...Lani had promised not to leave. She had promised! She had said she would never leave and now she was gone! Gone forever. Nearby guards could sense a tantrum coming on. They were common these days. Each of them had gotten a death threat that morning, some had gotten several. As long as they knew the king would never carry out his daughter's orders, they could sympathize with the tiny princess.
She looked so lost. So lost.
She needed a friend.

Crap. He was lost.
The castle was much larger than the monastery, and a maze to boot! How was he supposed to find his way around in here? Master Dobi had just...left him on his own! Scowling, the nine year old impling stormed around yet another corner, long golden braid bouncing against his shoulder. His usually bright silver eyes were a stormy grey, showing his foul mood to anyone who looked at them. He was dressed in his apprentice garb; a simple pair of brown pants and a white shirt, the emblem of his temple imprinted on a talisman around his neck. It caught him a few strange looks, since apprentices were rarely seen without their masters...but that was the problem!
His had LEFT him!
Exasperated, he looked as if he were about to cry, spinning around. Then, he spotted a young girl. An elf, to be exact; but then, everyone seemed to be elves here. Even Master Dobi was an elf. That, he had gathered, was why he had been chosen to come here. Theo, being rather far from elvin, had only been allowed to tag along because of his apprenticeship to Dobi.
"Hey. Hey you!" He called to the girl, quite unaware of who she was, and rather oblivious to her mood. "Have you seen a monk walk by? Big robes, pointy ears?" Possibly a bit drunk, but Theo would never tell anyone that.

"A monk?" Thali repeated, frowning slightly. What in Lynwood was a monk? She couldn't possibly have known if she had seen one, if she didn't know what they were. "Robes..." she mused. "No, I not seen any robes. Lots of pointy ears, though." She clearly thought she was being helpful. How unfortunate.
She went to the boy's side, and studied him. "You're not a elf," she observed. "I like you. We be f'iends. I help you find this monk. You loss him? I get D'agon and he help? D'agon my wuff. He good at sniffin'."
The aspect of having someone to talk to seemed to have cheered the toddler up a great deal. Even if the boy really was just looking for his pet monk, whatever that was.

Lots of pointy ears. Great. SHE was a lot of help. Theo scowled, wondering if this was why women weren't allowed in the temple; because they were useless. But, he noted, she was willing to help. So, he sighed, and nodded.
"Help would be much appreciated." He didn't know what this 'wuff' she was talking about was, or 'dagon'. Probably a dog, he thought, what with her talking about sniffing. He, personally, just wished he was old enough to learn the tracking spell.
"Of course I'm not an elf." He replied haughtily. "I'm an impling." He paused, then remembered his manners; an afterthought. "My name is Theo. What's yours?"

"D'agon help us. He help us find your monk," Thali said with a nod, and without waiting for a response, she called for her pup. "D'agon! D'agon! Where is you?" Her ears twitched slightly as she listened, and a giggle escaped her lips. "D'agon coming. No worry. He a small wuff. But he gonna get much bigger. Papa sayed so. Papa always right."
"Ooooh." An impling? Had he called himself an impling? "You bery pretty," she informed him. Maybe she wouldn't help him find his monk after all. Surely he would make a good pet? "I p'incess Thali," she said, in response to his question. "Nice meet you, Theo."

The princess. Great. The princess of Lynwood was useless. Well. Mostly. She was getting her...wuff, whatever that was. A dog, he was sure, but then again this entire place was weird. He nodded to the girl, flushing beneath his fur when she called him pretty. He wasn't supposed to be pretty, he thought stubbornly, but nodded politely to her. She was the princess, after all.
"Same to you, princess. I appreciate your help." Which was true, and without his usual sarcastic thoughts, too. He needed to find Dobi, so he could go home, where people were normal and Dobi wasn't allowed to run around drunk.

Running, stumbling, and nearly sliding into the wall when he skidded to a halt, was Dragon. The gray wolf pup quickly glanced around for his mistress before he pounced, causing afore mentioned mistress to giggle.
"This D'agon," Thali said, smiling at Theo. Implings were very interesting creatures, weren't they? She wanted one! "He gonna help us find your monk," she added. "D'agon, Theo sad. We gonna find his monk. He got pointy ears."
Dragon ignored her. He seemed to be busy realizing his tail was attached. He stared at it.

He was doomed. Doomed to wander these halls until he was as old as Dobi. The dog, or rather, wolf, was no more help than the princess! They both seemed as if they had been dropped on their heads one too many times and...
And, aw, hell. What did he have to lose.
"I have Dobi's gloves, if that would help him find him faster." Theo said, pulling them out of his back pocket. His master had passed them to him upon arrival, and he was suddenly thankful that he hadn't lost them or left them with the rest of their things...
Well. If it worked, he would be thankful. Otherwise, he'd probably end up hitting his head against the wall. Expecting the worst, he prepared himself for the inevitable pain of the wall.
