Clouds were threatening on the horizon, dark and probably carrying rain in their pouches. Already they were throwing shadows to the ground around Wikus van de Merwe as he walked away from the pharmacy he had just left. His eyes were mostly on the ground before him, one eye normal and blue; the other large and golden. Enough was going on in his life to ignore it for the time being.

In one hand he clutched his coat against himself as the wind picked up, and in the other was a bag. A bag that gave him sorrow every time he looked at it.

Ever since the fateful day of Neill's emerging, the ex-MNU had to pick up little kiddy painkillers for his son. Wikus shuddered at the memory of the exact moment after Neill had became a kit: screaming, even the smallest amount could scare a father to death. Neill's had been long, squeaky, and full of pain. Wikus had felt it. It had been so bad that Neill sent the awful feeling to anyone around that was in his thought radius.

Namely his father.

Now Wikus trudged back to his home and child, wishing...praying...anything for his boy to get better, to no longer deal with the curse the man had bestowed on his children by accident, a complete mistake he hadn't counted on.

Children...yes...Lisha. There was her to think of as well. He barely knew her, and was the bane of her existence. Wikus knew the pain at the time was his fault, but what could be done? The next time he'd be able to, he'd try the pain medications on her. And at least try to have a decent relationship if possible. If he could get close enough to her... He frowned at how pathetic this made him.

Wikus had screwed up enough for a lifetime...he had to be able to make it up to the only two victims he could beg for forgiveness from. But...how?

Just barely out of her bowl stage, Lisha quickly found use for her paws and strayed away from her mother's watchful eye when she could. It wasn't easy but she had managed somehow. When she did escape she would venture outside and into the wild where she felt content and happy, despite the growing pain that took over her entire face. Despite this she had managed to eat what she could, though she couldn't chew, and already she was having troubles speaking, often slurring her words and often unable to pronounce some words

On this particular promising day of rain, Lisha found herself managing to venture away from her mother, as she was of course distracted by the oncoming storms. She slipped away into the forest and poked around a tree, soon finding a hole, where she had stashed a variety of soft easy to eat foods. One of them being cat food.

With the can of cat food wrapped in her small tail, Lisha darted to the shop in order to open the can. Where she to bump into anyone, they would be sorry

Splat.
Splat.
... Splat.

The rain was already starting, unless something was really crapping on his head. Wikus pulled his jacket over his hair, hoping that it would be protection from whatever. The wind still blew, but he could fight it. He just hoped to not get damp by the time he was home again.

Wait. What was that? The shop was getting closer, a landmark on his path to home, but something was glowing. Inibi? No, too small. If it was Neill, he'd be white against the growing gloom. So could it be...?

"Lisha?" Wikus did not say it very loudly, his emotions mixed at the prospect of mingling with Lisha now. The rain was ready to pour out of the bloated clouds like a water balloon, and he needed to get back to Neill before the little guy realized that he had no more teddy bear pills. He thought about asking her to come home with him if she was or wasn't with Inibi, but he pushed it away with unease.

Even he knew that a confrontation could become as bad as the weather coming in. He also knew his daughter so little...almost barely...so he would have to try. If she didn't run.

She skirted inside before the heavens unleashed their hell and failed to notice her father. After dashing in, she looked around checking to see if her mother was around, soon finding the glowing adult was no where to be seen.

Like a small bug she quickly scooted into the kitchen, dropping the can on the floor before jumping up on one of he cabinets, opening a drawer full of silverware. "Fuufge...pshomeone moffed he an ofener." she hissed as she perched on the edge of the counter, scratching at her aching and soon bloody antennae. She looked around, trying to figure out what drawer held what, and tried to think of a conceivable place for an adult to put it.

She jumped over to one of the drawers, opened it, and soon found her reward. Taking it in her paws, she jumped down from the counter and skillfully used the tool to open the can of catfood

*Fudge...someone moved the can opener

And the light was gone. Avoidance...or could she not hear him over the wind? Did it matter? Wikus sighed, and felt his jacket get damper and damper. He wouldn't make it in time, then.

Thunder crackled then, followed by a "Fok" of surprise.

So hiding in the shop was inevitable now. Wikus changed his course, and was soon at the door before more thunder rolled through. The door shut behind him by the time it clapped.

He first stepped over to the nearest phone to call Neill to report that he would be home late, and to get Dementrix to see if the little guy could have a little of Wikus's own pain pills if it got too painful. The halfbreed did the fatherly work of warning not to go outside, what to do if the power went out, etc etc.

The phone returned to its cradle soon enough, and Wikus was prepared to sit out the storm. He knew Lisha was there somewhere; she just wasn't where he could see her. He didn't want to look very hard, fearing...many things.

Having finally opened the can of cat, she jumped up to the counter again and deposited the can opener in the right drawer, grabbing a spoon in the process. She shut the drawers and then jumped from the counter, taking her can and spoon and walking upright into the living room, using her tail as a balancer.

While a bit unsteady, she still managed to walk into the living room and plop down on the couch nearby, too transfixed on her food to notice anyone else in the room. She took the spoon awkwardly in her left paw and spooned a little bit of the soft mush and guided it to her mouth, swallowing almost immediatly after, despite her failed and pained attempts to chew

Wikus's attention was on Lisha as soon as his disproportionate eyez flickered as he heard footsteps. His gaze was on her as she came in and sat down, completely unaware of him.

There was a fascination of her being there right in front of him, yes. Looking much like her mother to boot.

And of course he could smell the ever-familiar and sickening cat food before he saw it.

But her face...oh God her face...

He wanted to scream. Tentacles, mandibles... They were poking out, unnatural. This was highlighted by the bloodstains of the fur above them.

My God, what have I done...my only daughter...first Neill now this...this tops this... he thought, forgetting that she could possibly have Inibi's mindreading abilities. Obviously, he was horrified. This WAS all his fault, both his children...freaks of nature... Like him. This last thought was selfish, and maybe unnecessary, but he would look like Lisha, and worse, soon enough. He watched her uneasiness with eating too. This added to his horror, a selfish one for himself that lessened the one of his daughter. But he needed to fear FOR her than AT her, and stop thinking about himself. Now.

Wikus kept perfectly still, except for looking away. Should he say something? Make his presence known? Let her know that they're not so different? Ask about Inibi? Something?

Swallowing her first bite, she grimaced and her antennae twitched angrily. She soon found herself holding her jaw and nearly throwing the can of cat food across the room. "ooow....." she groaned as she opened her mouth and pulled out the last of her baby teeth, looking at it and glaring. "Ell...no mo teeph fo me..." She sighed.

Despite the pain, she was surprisingly calm. Well tempter tantrums aside, but she had reason for her anger. And that reason for her anger was staring at her from across the room.

Seeing her father standing there just looking at her caused a flash of anger, but aside the angry twitching of her antenna and her mandibles, she was seemingly calm. "Wa o oo ant?"

*Well, no more teeth for me
* What do you want?

In the midst of a deja vu moment, Wikus was horrified even more at that Lisha could barely speak. And now with no teeth to few... Harder and harder was it to keep a blank face.

Lisha finally noticed him then. Wikus swallowed. He could barely even understand her himself. His gaze averted again, and he sat on a different couch. "Um...hi. I-it is nice to see you again, Lisha. Is Inibi here?" He looked at Lisha again, uncomfortable and definately not knowing what to do now. "...I see you like cat food, too, eh?"

Giving him a hard glare as he moved to the couch far from her, she twitched her prawn appendages with furry. There were so many things she could say right now, but she just kept her mouth shut until she was asked where is wife was. Typical...Always looking for mommy, caring not at all for her. "I unno." she hissed.

Still giving him the look of death she crossed her arms and tapped her fingers on one of her arms. Shocking..he knew nothing about her, and she hopped to keep it that way. Her disdain for her father had lead her to be independent. Without that drive, what would be? Like her brother? She could never stoop so low. "Ell I ould eat orma food...bu...phall I oint o ee ooth on ee floo?

*I dunno
*Well I would eat normal food...but..shall I point you to the tooth on the floor?

She talked like a retard. Good God, how did he just think that? Wikus's face twitched a little, only a millisecond. He was worried, scared, appalled, hateful, trying to be loving, and wishing to be anywhere else at the same time. But he had to. Push. Forward.

He tried to understand her better, but it was hard. At least it wasn't chiming...

"I...I do not really eat much normal food either. I think I almost have as many teeth as you do." The last part was quieter. "Soon much less. Maybe something completely different." Would there be a point in asking how Lisha was? Her attitude burned. But at the same time, he was her father, dammit.

Wikus sighed. No, there could not be a clash or yelling or hate. He had to make a positive mark.

"H-how are you doing, then? Besides...you know. I wish we could see you more, you know. Neill asks about you sometimes. I...would like to see you more." Both eyes, human and alien, were on her then. "Really." For that second, he would be hopeful. A stupid hope, but it felt good to have some.

Her eyes looked at him unimpressed. She gave him some merit, he was trying, but not hard enough. At what was this? She got this vibe from him that he thought badly of her. What it was she wasn't quite sure, but she just got this vibe, and that vibe strode her to try harder in her efforts. She would speak really words...it would just take her a lot of work.

" I....H..Have..No Teeth...That" she stopped to point to the small sharp canine on the floor. "Was..my..last one." She said with her face forming a scowl. It hurt her more to try and move those lips and from those words. Maybe they would just take time.

"How do...you..th..think?" she answered callously standing on the couch and turning her back to him. She could care less about what her brother wanted, much less her own father. Such a wimp...no wonder Neill is a big baby she thought as her big blue eyes gave him a harsh glare from an over the shoulder glance. "You ha...have..never..been there..for me...and..you..never w..will." She hissed, finally glad she got that off her chest. It was true, from the day of her birth all he did was roll in self pity, not once trying to deal with the problem. It was that lack of trust that guided her callousness to him, and she would make sure he never let it down

The little half-prawn spoke well when she tried, Wikus noted. Maybe they could find replacement teeth for her?

Losing every tooth, so young...c-can they grow back? He feared the answer.

"I...I want to be there for you." Wikus took a breath, trying to keep calm, trying to gain some control here. "I know I haven't been there...I didn't know what to do. What...what can I do when you would push yourself against Inibi as much as you could and I couldn't try to speak to you?" he asked. "When I was there, it was impossible..." The partial-man looked at the ground.

"I'm not... trying to blame you, though. It has just been hard, everything...I rarely get to see you or your mother. Neill is always out doing things, and me..." He finally decided to highlight his eyes, to make her see that he was changing as well, with more than he hoped she'd ever have to deal with. His arm, his shoulder, exoskeletal bits appearing where they weren't the last time he saw her. "I have to clean up after myself, too. I will be a complete thing I am turning into. And I never...ever...ever intended to make you like this.

I'm sorry. And I-I want to make up for it."

Flicking her head back around as he started speaking, she stuck her nose in the air. Why she was still sitting in that very spot was beyond her. While looking away, she gauged how quickly she could make a dash to the door, but first gauging whether she could jump over the couch. Her mind still being on food, she didn't hear a word of what her father had to say.

When he had finished, she stood, jumping onto the back of the couch and like a cat, balancing her way across the back, moving towards the door, and ultimately to Wikus. She could toy with him right now, she could smile and look like she was willing to forgive. But she decided against it. She wanted to make sure he never saw her smile.

Glaring him down, but also eying the door through peripheral vision, she shook her head "Yo.you...can..never...make up for what you..ha..have done." she hissed. "All...yo...you..ever do..is..wa..wallow in self p-pity. Grow a pair...." she sneered, soon jumping off the couch and blissfully making her way to the door. Had he tried to stop her, she would be willing to treat him like an enemy. And while she didn't have teeth, she still had claws

Wikus's brow furrowed.
He had a limit. He was the father here; she was not going to go away blaming him for something not his fault. If Inibi couldn't get her to be respectful and figure out that he had more issues than Lisha ever would to deal with, he'd do it himself.

So yes, he did grab her when he made it over. With his prawn arm, with strength against any wiggling. He couldn't be credited with actually planning that.

"Is this the pair you wanted? I have it. You do not use that kind of language with me." he kept his voice low. "I do not wallow in self-pity. I have had more of a life than you ever will; enough to know why to fear others, to fear for my life. I hurt as much as you do...maybe more. I do not just have a head, I have an entire body." he nearly growled. "You say I was never there for you, but you without your mother here...you have never tried to find me. Everything is not my fault."

((Sorry if it's speechy or out of character...I didn't know what else to do to keep it going without it getting mopey. XD; ))
