Akila grunted and set her shoulder against the filing cabinet that Ottah was having her move. It was heavy!! "Shoulda taken the files out first." she seethed as her paws struggled for grip on the hard floor. It was a doctors office, easier to clean that way but it sure made it hard to move heavy stuff. What was left of her tail flicked back and forth in agitation at the inanimate object and she huffed and sat back on her haunches, looking up in aggitation at the file drawers.
She still had a few other things to do today too. But she had to move this damn cabinet first!!!!! She sat, trying to figure out a was to get purchase on the floor. Taking out the files wasn't an option for her, she couldn't read and if she messed up she couldn't put them back in the right order... She sighed. She didn't want to upset Ottah... like really upset him, she picked fun at him all the time but she didn't think she ever overstepped her boundaries, and she didn't do it in public either. She knew he didn't like that...

Flint was silently moving about the place doing small organizational tasks that didn't require much strength from him. Sure he couldn't read. But his mind was like a computer recording everything he saw and did so he could recall it later. It was in the midst of stacking the needles one by one that he turned hearing the angry grunting and the sound of sliding metal against a wood floor. It was possibly one of the worst sounds he had heard in awhile. Dropping the needles he's have to see what was going on. It was his duty to make sure Akila wasn't doing anything she wasn't supposed to. And he was sure that he could stack the needles up before Ottah got home if he dealt with whatever was happening right away.
So he crept out of the doorway to watch the other kitten trying to move something that was obviously too heavy for her. It was also obvious she was missing the wood that was pealing off the floor from her actions.
"You know Ottah isn't going to be too pleased you ruined his floor." He tipped his nose down to the scuff marks she was making so he could bring it to her attention.

Akila's ears flicked towards the sound of Flint's voice and she huffed in agitation. She turned to look at the older cat, her tail still flicking back and forth in irritation. "Then he shoulda got tile instead." she snapped at the gray male. She really wasn't angry at him, she was just frustrated.
Akila sighed and looked at the floor, Ottah really wasn't going to be too happy about her scratching his floor and that upset her.
Despite the way she acted she had grown sort of fond of their master and did like to please him. "It's jus', I can't move it with all tha files init." she finally said and glared at the filing cabinet. "But I can't put em back if I take em out, can't read." she admitted grudgingly before throwing her paws up in exasperation.

"He might have to." He huffed about her joke about tiles not finding it so funny. Ottah was going to whoop them both when he got home. "Though-" he paused and watched her struggle aimlessly. "You could have asked me for help if you needed somebody to organize the files. I can't read myself- but I have a keen memory." He moved over to where she was and lightly but in a nice way came between her and the cabinet.
"Shoving it with all that weight is just going to hurt yerself." He went to the bottom shelf and began to pull out the files one by one neatly stacking them on a desk. "You don't even need to know how to read as long as you keep them in order." He pointed to the desk. "Just stack them back the way you put them on the desk." He moved out of the way so she could get to the higher draws. He couldn't climb that well so it would end in disaster if he attempted to move all those heavy files up and down the cabinet. "Do you think you can handle that?"

Akila sighed and looked at Flint like he was the unintelligent one, "And what if I bump em? Ottah'll be even more mad ifin I mes up 'is files." she said looking nervously from Flint to the pile on the desk as he moved the flies out of the cabinet. But she sighed and walked away from the cabinet to grab the chair. "Ima pass the files down to ya." she told Flint as she pushed the chair into place.
She jumped up on the chair easily enough and pulled the file drawer open. Once she had it open she noticed the similarities in the letters. All the files in this particular drawer went from M-S (although she didn't know those were the letters, only that they grouped up.) She tilted her head and looked at the files a moment longer before remembering the old cat on the floor. "If ya don't mind helpin I mean." she said, showing a smidgen of respect and a smile.

"I honestly think he'd be more mad having to buy an entirely new floor compared to some out of order files. He knows we can't read..." He smiled at her trying to reassure her that Ottah wasn't going to be too cross if the files were slightly out of order. He held up a paw and took the files that she was holding onto. Then neatly placed the group back on the table. "I don't mind helping you out. If we work together perhaps I can show you how to organize the needles in the office. Less grunt work."
He figured if the two worked quick enough moving the cabinets and cleaning up the office they would be done in enough time to have a decent break before Ottah came home to give the two another menial task. "Lets get this done quick and have ourselves a well deserved break. You wouldn't mind helping with the office?"

Akila nodded and pulled out another stack of files, about five per pull they were averaging and it was going pretty quickly. Before she knew it the duo had the entire second drawer emptied and all that was left was the top one. She stood up on her hind paws, being careful as she opened the drawer and pulled the files out one at a time this time as she had to stand up, grab the file, then ease back into a sitting position and hand it off to Flint. This process took a little longer as a result.
But they still made good time and soon all the files were stacked in neat piles on the desk. Akila nodded and hopped off the chair, nearly landing on Flint as she misjudged the jump. "Sorry.." she said with a grimace and turned to move the now empty cabinet. It still wasn't the lightest thing around, but it was movable and she slid it across the floor... easily enough. Once that was in place she looked at Flint and gestured to him to bring the files over If you move the bottom ones back, I can bring the chair over and we can start up our chain again." she said with a nod and another smile. She was quiet please with how smoothly this had gone so far, which was good. The scratch in the floor would be hard enough to explain.

He nodded and quickly began passing files in what he precevied was the right order. "I assume the ones with similar symbols on the top go together. We should try to fix them so they sort of go together the right way." He took an 'A' and moved it from the 'E' files sticking it with the other 'A's. They were all just pictures in the end to him. "How are your symbols going?" He turned his head and asked as she was near the top of the cabinet filing the last of the funny symbols together. He didn't really mind that Akila almost toppled him earlier after all it was better then getting the cabinet falling on you...or additional scraps over the wood.
He then looked down at the scrapes on the wood and cocked his head. He would have to do something about that. "Perhaps we could put a rug over it?" He wasn't really sure what else they could do so Ottah didn't notice it. At least the rug would buy them some time to think of something more long term.

Akila looked at him as he fixed one of the files and she stood up, putting her paws on the filing cabinate as she scanned the symbols at the top of the files. "They all looked grouped together to me." she said with a frown. All the symbols matched each other and they were each separated with a divider so she figured they did pretty well.... She looked at Flint and nodded. "I think it's good for these two drawers." as for the scratches...
Akila shook her head and looked at Flint "Hiding it won't do any good, Ottah wanted to put somthin' there, I'm not sure what, he hasn't told me. But that's why I had to move the filing cabinet in the first place." she frowned and looked at Flint more fully "We shouldn't lie 'bout it anyways. I'll let 'em know that I scraped it up when he gets back." she said with a firm tone. She sighed though as she looked at the floor again.
"You said there was somethin' you needed help with?" she pipped up recalling his proposal to work together on their chores so they could take a break before Ottah got home.

He corrected her quickly. "Let him know that I did it. I can't have a lady taking a beating." Though he doubted Ottah would do anything more then groan at them and yell at them sternly. "And I don't want you telling him other-wise that you did it." He lowered his brow at her in seriousness. He was a gentleman and would take the wrap for any lady. He shifted his body to hide the welts from his youth. He didn't get walloped much at the spa as his owner liked to have clean and healthy looking cats...but Hyde on the other paw. He just couldn't keep his hands off the whip.
"As for the work in the office. I need some help organizing the needles. There are so many and there are so many different uses for them." He spoke out confused. Ottah was right that the job would be hard. "I need to find them all proper homes before Ottah gets back. And if I screw up one needle I could badly hurt a customer." His ears flattened against his head knowing that would be the worst thing he could do.

Akila frowned at him, sure it was a touching sentiment and all. But Akila wouldn't have someone take the blame or the punishment for something she herself screwed up. "No. I did it and I'll take the blame for it." she said firmly and began pushing the chair back to it's original position. "There's 'ardly any skin left on yeh, lettin' the master take what's left off isn't any good for anyone." she finished as she pushed the chair into place by the desk and padded out of the room to avoid any comments he could make.
Akila walked into the office and looked around for the needles Flint had been telling her about. The caps over the sharp parts were colored, but the drawers they went in weren't.... She examined the needles and then the drawers, her gaze going back and forth between the two. "Oi!! There's more o' those symbols on these, think we can match 'em to the symbols on the drawers?" she asked Flint.

"Oi I didn't even notice those!" He squinted not wanting to admit his vision was going from being old. "Could ye match them and I'll put them in the draw?" He continued to look at the needle as if his eyes were going to burn a hole right threw the medal. He just couldn't seam to make out the little patterns. He blinked and rubbed his eyes still not seeing it. "Curses at being old. I hope ye retain yer vision for as long as ye can."
"But no seriously, I'll cover for ye. You've been such a help. It's the least I can do for ye is take the beating for the scrapes on the floor." He handed the needles back to her and waited for her instructions on where to place them. It was obvious that he was never going to see anything on those tiny needles as hard as he was trying.

Akila looked at the needles closely. Each one had a different set of symbols on it, and some of them looked really close to the other one. She sighed, ignoring Flint's beating banter for now and concentrated on the medical equipment. The red cap was easy to identify and she padded over to the drawer just to make sure. "I'm pretty sure the red one goes o'er 'ere." she indicated the drawer with her paw and looked at the needles again. "An the green one's go 'ere." she indicated the drawer next to it and walked back over to the needle table.
Now, the blue capped ones and the yellow capped ones... those were the ones giving her problems and she starred at them for a minute, pushing the red and green needles over to Flint so he could put them away. She padded back to the two remaining drawers and took a chance on opening them in hopes that one of the older unused needles was in there. Ottah had ordered new stock but their master liked to make sure he had extra before he ran out.
She pulled open the drawer and Ra must have been smiling on her on the moment because in the drawer was a single blue capped needle, she turned and smiled at Flint triumphantly. "An the blue one's go in 'ere." she put her paw on the drawer she had just opened and grinned again.

He looked at the needles still having trouble seeing what she saw. But he began to see the differences as she pointed them out one by one. He wouldn't have problems seeing which one was which next time and with some ease began filling them where each one of them belonged. "Oh this isn't so difficult after all!" He chirped being far more happy they would both have the jobs done. And he was so worried that he wouldn't get along with Akila. He chuckled to himself liking her more and more as the moment flew by until the last needle seamed in place.
"Ah it looks like we are all done in here!" His eyes scanned the room one more time looking for anything out of place. But it all seamed fixed and in order to him. Just how Ottah would like it. "Seams like we have some free time." That was a first for him. He could relax for once not being with Hyde. Finally he had some good peace of mind.

Akila looked around as well, checking for anything out of place. There wasn't, she padded out of the office and double checked to make sure everything was in order there and once that was done she gave an involuntary wiggle in excitement. It wasn't as if they didn't ever get free time, but this time it was unexpected and just felt sweeter somehow. She pranced down the hallway and stopped, looking around for Flint. "Come on, let's go outside." she suggested, although she was going outside regardless. It was a nice day and she loved the way the air of Giza smelt.
She walked towards the back entrance to the office, a little bounce still in her step. They sat out back because the front could be seen out in the general populace and it was bad manners for a slave to be "lazing around" It made their master look bad. She opened the back door and darted outside, immediately claiming a sunny spot to which she curled up and wrapped her 3/4ths of a tail around herself.
