Nightfall. Or almost, anyway. The sun was still setting actually. The sky was tinged with hues of orange and purple. A rather beautiful sight if one bothered to take notice, which she didn't. Or couldn't.
Aereon sighed deeply as she stood up, stretching and shaking her now rather lengthy head fluff right as soon as she did. She'd been waiting for a while now, for dark to come. Most of the day she'd been lying around, wasting the day away sleeping or otherwise staring at the wall across from where she lay. The lioness was a nocturnal creature, though not by choice. Now that she was accustomed to it Aer knew that she liked nighttime more than she did daytime, but when she was younger it bothered her somewhat that she lived a life quite differently than most others did. Everyone else moved while the sun was out.. but then again, her father wasn't 'everyone else'. Nor were the lionesses she knew while growing up.
She huffed and shoved the thoughts aside. She wasn't one to reminisce, but every now and again newer experiences brought back memories of similar situations or the lessons she was taught. Frankly, she'd much rather forget. Without giving her mind another chance to revisit her younger years, the young adult got to walking, slipping quietly out of the little shelter she found the previous night just before daybreak. It was dark already, so it was about time she started moving again.

The day had been... eventfull, to say the least. And not in a good way. His first hunt had been blown by a murmuring pack of hyenas and the second stolen from him by a nasty-tempered rogue lion. He was not small for a leopard, but the massive-maned brute had been well above his weight class so the pale leopard had slipped away and just barely avoided a beating. He would rather hunt again, than fight someone who was likely to bash his skull in over what was... a relatively scrawny zebra.
Giving a little shrug as he pondered the wasted day, he realised just how late it was as he squinted into the darkness. Well... he would try once more then give up, his belly was empty and reminding him so every few paces.
Suddenly he paused, one paw mid-air. There was someone close by.... he could scent them. Yet who ever it was, they were well hidden, or else, darkly coloured, for his eyes had yet to pick them out.

A passing breeze brought with it the scent of another. Close by, most likely, though she didn't pay attention to it. Really, passing rogues moving at night was rare, but not unheard of. As long as.. whoever it was minded their own business whatever they were up to didn't concern her. Still, ignore it as she might as she came to the top of a hill she spotted in the distance a leopard, judging by his lack of a mane and tuft-less tail. She couldn't tell much else aside from that. He was in the direction she was going though, so cautiously she descended the small hill, nodding in his general direction as she came to its base.
"Rare," she said in passing. "I don't normally run into leopards." Now normally she wasn't one to make conversation, but solitary as she was even Aer needed someone to talk to every now and again. Whether it was pleasant conversation or roaring threats at someone else didn't really matter. Most everyone couldn't stand not having company for too long anyway, and she certainly wasn't an exception.

It was the beat of her paws that finally alerted him to her presence, and the voice that told him it was a lioness. He had to squint into the shadows to finally see her outline and then wondered just how tired and hungry he was...
"Really? I guess there aren't many in this area?" He replied, polite and curious. he was a wanderer, he never really stayed in one place long enough to learn what its habits and population was like. Sometimes, he became curious, once or twice he had even considered staying, but something happened each time that drove him onwards. Last time, it had been a pair of rouge lion brothers who had decided he was imposing on their turf. Without any reason to fight to stay, he had simply moved on.

Seemed as though he heard her since he replied only a moment after she made the comment. Aer stopped walking then and blinked a few times, eying the other carefully. From the sound of his voice he didn't seem the hostile type, but again she couldn't make any other observations just from what he said. "I wouldn't know," she answered, deciding not to take a seat since their conversation probably wouldn't last all that long anyway. "I was speaking in general though."
Now when was the last time she actually had a conversation again? A real conversation anyway, not just exchanging threats or barking insults at someone that happened to irritate her enough. She couldn't remember. In any case, she and this leopard seemed to have at least that much common ground - they were both wanderers. It wasn't all that comforting a thought, but it was still better than someone who belonged to one pride and ranted and raved about it from dawn until dusk. Not that she'd met anyone like that, but they probably existed somewhere. Even with that common ground though the lioness still couldn't think of anything else to say. So.. she stood and waited.

Humming softly under his breath in thought the leopard seemed unconcerned about any possible attack. Indeed, he appeared to be fairly relaxed, standing calmly, his pale coat making him glow faintly in the darkness, the tip of his long tail curling slowly. "I have to admit, I have met few of anything in the past few days, aside from a rough lion who yelled at me and a hyena pack that tried to make me into dinner... not that they got too far." He smiled to her, a genuine, honest smile. "Though I suppose that last fact is fairly clear since I'm here and am intact."
Pausing a moment he seemed to consider something. "I'm Kamau, by the way."

Name. She lingered on the idea of giving this leopard, this... Kamau, her name. Whether or not he'd remember it wasn't of any concern, but it was more because she wasn't sure he even really needed it. These brief meetings she had in the roguelands, rare as they were, didn't necessarily call for two individuals exchanging something as personal as their names. Then again, it might also be considered etiquette to give someone you're conversing with your name. Really, she didn't care for etiquette, or being on a name-basis with anyone. She didn't need to, come to think of it. She didn't want to.
And yet she still found herself seriously considering it. The longer she sat on the idea of giving this Kamau her name, the more she leaned toward actually telling him. In the end, after several moments of nothing but thinking to herself, the lioness took a seat. After wrapping her tail around so it rested neatly beside her, she blinked a few times at Kamau before finally replying. "Aereon."

He watched her patiently as she seemed to flal into an internal debate with herself over something. He vaguely wondered if it was over him, though why she would be thinking that deeply about him was a mystery. he was a no-body, a wanderer.. he wasn't deep or interesting or even dangerous. Well.. unless you were the size of a meerkat or a baby antelope, and even then, he would have to be hungry...
Come t think of it, he really was hungry. When was the last time he had eaten? A day or so ago for certain, since he had been travailing more recently after the last few unfortunate meetings with lions and those hyena...
Ears pricking as she finally surfaced from her deep, philosophical debate, he smiled softly, expression polite. "Its very nice to meet you, Aereon." He replied honestly, since it was.. she hadn't tried to bite or eat him yet, nor had she screamed or yelled at him or tried to run him off. it was a very nice change.

She nodded slightly when he replied, at least acknowledging the fact that she was somewhat okay with their meeting so far. Aer stayed quiet after that, unsure as to where their conversation was really going. Eventually, after the silence had dragged on few a minute or two the, the lioness decided that the conversation had ended and there was nothing more to really discuss. They had exchanged names and so were now something like acquaintances, which was all good and well so long as he didn't use it against her. Now that the conversation had run its course it was time she got going again.
"Well that's that," she said, her tail swaying to the left as she stood and took a few steps to walk past the leopard. "I won't keep you. I know your name so I'll remember you should we run into each other again." With that the lioness nodded again to bid this Kamau goodbye. "Until then," she said before walking off, not really sure where exactly she was going. Not that it mattered anyway.

Deep purple eyes watched the lioness quietly, waiting for her to make the next move, as the higher predator the female was calling the shots in this meeting. Head tilting a she seemed to make up her mind, he blinked at her comment. One brow lifted as he watched her walk past, a polite dip of his head. "Have a good eve." He relied, watching her walk off into the darkness.
After a few long moments he turned back and lifted his head up, gaze resting on the stars. "Time to hunt..." Tail curling, the pale leopard resumed his walk, hoping to snag a meal before kipping down until dawn.
