Aila's favorite stone, without a moment's doubt, was the labradorite she had acquired from the home of one of Camphoreon's wealthier residents. She had hesitated to part with it and eventually decided against doing so. Upon surrendering her occupation as a jewel thief, she resolved to craft the gem into a pendant for her own use, should she ever require such a formality. She lacked the materials to do so, however, so once again her day off found her in her hometown. This time, however, she was in the city with a distinct purpose in mind.
The girl received her purchase from the cashier with a word of gratitude, exiting the store absently and studying the labradorite specimen in her hand as the light caught it and the jewel flashed to life.

Claire was also in the city with a distinct purpose in mind.
It hadn't changed much since the other day, when she'd first arrived in Kodo, but she'd been too busy to study the town at that time. She had... other matters to attend to. Like finding a certain building somewhere in the desert. Ahem.
Now that she had some time on her hands after finally finishing her internal map of the open floors of the base, next stop was Camphoreon. Not necessary to memorize, like the base was, but still could prove important later on in regards to missions and the like. Thus why Odette had flown her here today.
The aforementioned bird was happily perched on her owner's left shoulder, absolutely loving all the attention she was getting from passers-by. She was in heaven! Well, her version of heaven, anyway.
Claire made an amused sound at her Pidgeot's behavior, and turned a corner to continue down another street. The best way for her to get a good internal map of the city was to get lost in it, and lost she was. That was alright though, she'd gotten a fairly good aerial view for a few minutes before they landed on the outskirts of town, and that did wonders to help her figure out where she was.
It was then she noticed the sign to some store, she didn't really find any interest in the shop itself but she noted the name, and continued on--
--straight into another girl.
The young woman made a sort of squeaking noise as she bumped into the girl who'd just walked out of the store and immediately in front of her. She flailed and almost fell, but Odette came to her rescue by flying just above her and grabbing her upper arms to keep her upright. It took but a moment or two to regain her balance, and the golden Pidgeot resumed her spot on her owner's shoulder.

Aila was a considerably small individual, and the sudden, unexpected impact sent her toppling to the ground unceremoniously. Her first tightened around the labradorite in an effort to protect the gem, but the bag containing her purchase was not as fortunate, its contents spilling around her. Wires, beads, and stones scattered on the ground and gleamed in the sun. Aila shook her head dazedly before gazing up at the cause of her fall. She was startled by the familiarity her pink eyes met: She was certain she recognized this woman.
"...My apologies," she murmured as she moved to gather her things. This was the second time her inattentiveness had caused such a crash. She made a mental note to be exceedingly more careful in the future.

Hands immediately went to her hips as she studied the girl before her, rather irritated that someone could just waltz out of a store, not paying any attention to where they were going. She could've walked right into the street and got hit by a bus or something! Sheesh...
"Apology accepted," Claire said in a flat tone, clearly indicating her displeasure, and with an annoyed sigh she offered the girl her hand to help her up. She could pick up the items that fell out of her bag by herself. It was then something clicked in her mind, as she studied her more closely, something nagging in the back of her mind the longer she looked. "My name's Claire," she offered, along with her hand. "You seem awfully familiar... What's your name?"

Not the most elegant way to accept an apology, Aila noted. She returned her things to her bag and shouldered it, declining the offered hand and rising on her own power. Outside of the base, strangers were not to be trusted. It was a fundamental concept the girl held as truth, especially with her newly-formed affiliations.
The hand extended in greeting gave rise to even more suspicion. Was there some ulterior motive this woman had in wanting to make physical contact? Aila's wariness was only increased when she mentioned her familiarity. However, she could not deny that she herself felt a sense a recognition.
"Aila," she stated simply, meeting the taller woman's gaze with obvious apprehension.

Claire hadn't offered her hand in greeting, she had merely kept it out in case the girl had needed help. Since she obviously didn't, the young woman pulled it back. She didn't like physical contact with others if she could help it, but offering to help someone up was another matter. Sort of.
When the girl mentioned her name, however, that rang a bell, and her frosty attitude melted partially. It had been a good idea to glance through files on all the members in the base, not just the higher-ups. "Ah, yes. Aila." She would remember her face. It was hard to put a name to a description on the computer. "I remember now. We work together," and that was all she offered. It wouldn't do to proclaim the fact they both worked at the Team Rocket base in the desert.
Well, this would be better than running into a total stranger that she didn't work with. She didn't want anyone in town to remember her. That would make missions a bit... harder.
"I take it you had some free time on your hands, too?" But she spent it shopping. Not too bad a way to spend time, as she herself was thinking of doing a little shopping. Not for jewelry, of course. Mostly clothes and hair dye. Maybe wigs, if need be. And colored contacts. Working undercover required a lot of quick and easy changes.

Aila noticed the subtle change in disposition, evidenced most strongly by this Claire's tone of voice. She hummed thoughtfully, "Yes, I would believe that." She had a vague recollection of passing the woman in the hall one day and of spying her in the cafeteria. "And yes. One of my obligatory days off. Somehow the occasion always finds me back in this city."

"I see," she said as she shifted her weight to her right foot, reaching up to pet Odette's side. The bird crooned happily. "It's my day off, too, though this is the first time I've had a chance to look around the city. I've been busy the last few days," with figuring out how to get around the base without getting lost. "So I thought I'd come here to figure my way around here too."
It hadn't been but a couple hours and she already had found all the major points and was vaguely piecing it all together. Just a bit longer and she'd have the whole thing memorized.
"You like to come here a lot, then?" It wasn't so much that Claire was really interested, she just wanted to make conversation. It was sort of nice to find a teammate outside of the base. Safety in numbers, after all. Not like anything bad would happen, but... just in case.

"A laudable effort," Aila said with an approving nod. "I have several detailed maps of this city in my possession, in fact, if you would ever like to see them." She used to have several detail maps of the immediately accessible areas of the base, but Nadja had confiscated them. She was still a bit sore about that, actually.
"I lived here until recently," she explained. "It is one of the few places in Kodo with which I am well-acquainted, and so I find myself here when I am granted a superfluous amount of free time." A moment's thought revealed the awkward nature of their circumstances. "Would you like to find a more appropriate place to continue this?" she suggested. "I am familiar with a number of cafes, for example."

Cutting straight to the most important statement, Claire nodded in agreement. "A cafe of some sort would be wonderful. The middle of the sidewalk isn't exactly the best place for a conversation." With that, she extended an arm to signal Aila to lead the way, and began to follow the smaller woman.
"Why, if I may ask, do you have detailed maps of the city? I may be interested in glancing at one, but I like to keep all maps internal," she said with a small tap to her right temple. It was much easier and accessible that way. A thought occurred to her. "Do you have detailed maps of any other places?" Perhaps she did, but then, that may not be too good an idea. Especially if the wrong people saw them.

Accepting the cue, Aila started across the street in a direction that would lead them to a small collection of eateries, within which they would find the girl's favorite cafe.
"Reference materials," she said. "Internalizing locations is effective to a point, but one is prone to forgetting more minute details that may one day become important." A sly grin spread on her lips in response to the query. "I have a number of records of different points of interest throughout the city," she raised a hand to count off on her fingers her voice lowered to a volume that passerby would not easily overhear, "such as the department stores, the banks, an assortment of fine jewel dealerships, and several of the wealthier households in the residential quarter." She spared a glance at Claire as they arrived at the cafe, holding open the door to allow her companion entry. "I once had maps of our workplace as well, but such activity was frowned upon."
Thoughful eyes turned to the Pidgeot. The cafe's proprietor was a former trainer himself and had not minded the presence of her own Bulbasaur, but she was unsure of how the staff would react to the large bird.

Claire followed the young woman to the cafe, nodding once in a while to herself. "Yes, though I don't normally try to remember all the tiny details. Just the more important pieces." Should she make an effort to memorize all the smaller shops' names, or should she stick to the bigger ones? Probably just the bigger ones, she didn't need any unnecessary things mixed in with what was more important.
Ah, so she did have maps of the base. Or at one point she did, it sounds like one of the higher-ups caught wind of it and swiftly took care of the problem. "Yes, I can see why that wouldn't be a good idea. The other places you mentioned, very helpful, but our own workplace? That would be something better committed to memory, not paper."
As Claire moved towards the door, Odette deftly hopped off her shoulder and followed her in on foot, realizing using her wings wouldn't be that brilliant an idea. She looked around and, upon spying a nice booth in the corner in the front (and near a window!), the vain bird chirped happily and hurried over. It took but a moment or two for her to get from the floor to the thick edge of the back seat of the booth, not wanting to think of how ungraceful it was to have climbed up there because she couldn't use her wings.
Her trainer made an amused noise as she followed Odette, and slid into the side the golden bird had chosen, and waited for Aila to follow. She knew Odette would behave herself inside. Well, if you didn't count trying to get the attention of every single person in the cafe so they'd come give her compliments, of course.

"It is understandable that one would do so, but it is not unlikely that the smaller details, when collected, become important." She stopped herself. "By no means do I intend to critique your ways, of course. What is best for me is not necessarily best for all." It was a personal peeve of hers to be lectured on grounds of a difference in opinion, and she was embarrassed to have indulged in such an act herself.
"Yes, it seems my superiors felt similarly. In my haste to acquire thorough and accurate knowledge, I failed to consider the suspicious nature of my activities. I must admit, however, that it is difficult to restrain my instincts to record that which I remember." Documents were the most important parts of reconnaissance, she felt. How could one prove where one had been and what one had seen if one could produce no documents?
Aila took a seat at the table Odette had selected, turning her attention to the bird. "Your Pidgeot's coloration is interesting. Might I ask where it was acquired?" It had been bothering her for a while, but she had seen no place to present the inquiry.

"Yes, that's true." She couldn't argue that all small details were frivolous, but all the same, she'd rather concentrate on bigger, more important things. "Oh, of course not. I know what works for me, so I stick to it. Why fix something that isn't broken? Or some saying like that." That was probably it, but she wasn't too sure. Oh well.
"And yes, I can see how it would seem highly suspicious. Another reason why I value an internal map," she said as she vaguely pointed to her temple again. That, and no one would be suspicious of one.
"Ah, Odette?" She reached up to pet the bird, who crooned happily at the attention and ignored the fact Aila thought she was just interesting. "I won her as a Pidgey in a poker game in another region a few years back. I've had her ever since. She's a wonderful Pokemon, though terribly vain." She paused, studying Aila for a moment or two. "Do you have any Pokemon?"

"A fine win," she said. She had never cared for gambling, but it seemed the game had yielded a fortuitous prize. She glanced to the pokeballs at her chest and hip at the question. "I do," she replied. "Two. An Ivysaur and a Misdreavus." She pressed the release on the pokeball attached to her ribbon, a flash of light releasing the aforementioned Ivysaur.
"Fleur, introduce yourself," the girl prompted.
"Saur!" A green vine snaked out from the bud, hoving in front of Claire as though offering a handshake. The pokemon's face was arched in a bright smile.
A waiter, taking notice of the customers, approached the table with a notepad and pen in hand and handed each a menu, "Good afternoon, ladies. May I take your orders, or shall I return shortly?"
"Iced raspberry tea for myself, please," Aila requested. She turned an eye on Fleur. "And a plate of saltines. With ketchup, if I may so ask."
