There had been rumors of a new batch of cats available for purchase from the slave market, and Ekaitz was curious. Perhaps there would be better choices this time, and so she had made her way to Zanzibar, hoping to find a slave that would appeal to her.
She disliked going to the slave market, it always smelled, and the hyena, who was the owner, didn't exactly appeal to her. Still, it was the only place where one could get a decent slave, and thus Ekaitz would deal with it. Hopefully, this trip would be the only one she needed to make for a while.
"Why hello there miss," Hyde greeted her, as she stepped into the dwelling. "What can I help you with today?"
"I'm just browsing," she responded, frowning at the hyena. "I will let you know if I find one that suits me." She didn't wait for a response, moving into the area where the slaves were kept. She didn't need his help to find a slave, she could do that just fine by herself.
She wasn't really looking for anything in particular, just a slave that seemed as if it would be useful, and of course, one that appealed to her visually. There was no reason to have an ugly slave, not when she might have other options. There were a wide selection at the moment, and she simply stared at them for a moment, waiting to see if perhaps one of them would catch her attention.

Djoser sighed, padding back an forth in his cage, bored as usual. There really wasn't much to do when you were stuck in a cage... Of course there isn't much to do in a cage. he thought in annoyance. He just didn't like being bored that's all. His ears flicked towards the sound of pawsteps near the doorway and he turned to look out of his cage. A grey and white hound had just stepped into the area where he and the others were kept.
He ran his green eyes over the hound, noting her markings and the delicate frame that indicated she was a female. She looked interesting enough, and if looks were an indication she also didn't appear to be one that would be unkind to her slaves... But that was just his first impression, he had learned very quickly that first impressions weren't always trustworthy.
... Still... she didn't look all that bad, so Djoser decided he would stay around the middle of his cage for this one, not too far back so as not to be easily seen, but not up front either. He didn't want to look like some eager kitten awaiting a saucer of cream.

There were a few slaves that Ekaitz wasn't interested in at all, those with missing limbs, and scars, but as she skimmed the cages, she noticed a tan male pacing back and forth in his cage. He didn't seem as if he was happy, but then again, who would be, locked in a cage like that.
The slave finally settled, and she moved closer to his cage, looking him over. He was pretty enough for her tastes, and not as needy as some of the others. It seemed like he was content to wait until the right owner came along, though she suspected that he would probably prefer that to be sooner than later. "Do you have any talents, slave?" she asked, sounding a little harsher than she had intended. She didn't actually care about that, slaves can be trained, but she wanted to see how he would respond. "I am looking for someone who will be useful to me."
She smiled softly. "My name is Ekaitz. What is yours?"

Djoser looked at the female, who had actually decided to stop outside his cage. That was interesting, he was usually passed up for his lack of... well anything. He wasn't a bad looking cat but he wasn't gorgeous, and he didn't have any deformities that would make his stand out either. His ears flicked, whether in annoyance at the word slave, or because of the multiple flys that resided in the filthy black markets back rooms was undetermined.
He bobed his head respectfully and looked at the hound, trying to figure out what skills she would want. "My only talents are my strength and I'm quick on my feet missus." he said calmly and bobbed his head again. No use in being rude like some other cats were, that would just keep him in here longer and frankly he would rather brave the possibility of a harsh master than endure this boredness any longer.
He noticed her smile, and was again struck that this may just be a nice master than the others. He bobbed his head again, still being respectful "My name is Djoser, but I prefer 'jose if it pleases you Ma'am." he replied again in the same calm respectful tone as before.

He was adorable, Ekaitz decided. Well spoken, charming. With a little instruction, he might work out very nicely.
She circled around his cage, checking out his build. He seemed healthy, and a few good days of proper food and not being confined to a cage would take care of any issues that he might have.
"Strength and quickness are good traits," Ekaitz said. There were a few things that both strength and quickness would be useful in, and a couple different ideas popped into her head. Perhaps he could be a fighter, or a guard. "I think that will please me very much, 'jose. Have you had any other owners?"
She knew that she could acquire this information from that nasty hyena, Hyde, but if she had the choice, she'd prefer to spend as little time around him as she can. Besides, she had the suspicion that it really didn't matter, he was here, and the market wasn't known for selling already owned slaves. This was mostly to indulge her own curiosity.

Djoser stayed still while she looked him over and tilted his head to the side at her determination of his usefulness. Her use of his nickname once again affirmed his suspicions of being a decent master and he answered her question pleasantly enough. "No missus, but I have seen many a hound come through here pretending to be nice when they weren't." he said.
Very true, there had been more than one occasion when a hound would seem nice then suddenly turn mean at an unacceptable answer, such as stating his nickname, or for speaking out of turn. Granted, as a slave you were taught not to do that, but Djoser didn't want a master who would punish him every time he forgot to hold his tongue. He would be hurting certainly then because he frequently added "unnecessary information" to his conversations, though it was only him trying to be nice.

Ekaitz nodded. "Yes, some of my fellow hounds can be cruel." It was a bit stupid, in her opinion, how some hounds treated their slaves. There were far better ways of dealing with a slave than by beating them. That tended to only lead to resentment and more beatings.
She smiled. "That's not my preferred way of treating a slave. I would much rather have someone who serves me out of respect than out of fear." She glanced around at the cages surrounding Djoser, and then looked back at him. "Do you think you could serve a mistress like that, 'jose?"
Even if he was only a slave, he deserved to be able to have an opinion, especially since it concerned him. She would much rather have a willing servant than one that she had to keep an eye on constantly.

Djoser raised an eyebrow at her agreeing with him, which he didn't expect. You know with her being a hound and all... He tilted his head and regarded her calmly as she told him how she preferred to treat a slave. Which sounded rather nice to him, and she seemed like a straight forwards enough lady to have been telling the truth...
He shifted a little, bobbing his head again as he answered her question "Yes Ma'am I do believe I would do well serving a mistress like that." and it was true, if she were to buy him and treat him well he would do what she wished of him and then some. He aimed to please after all.

She circled him one last time. Yes, he would do perfectly.
"Very well." Ekaitz said, nodding. She turned and vanished for a moment, returning with the hyena. "I want that one."
"That'll be 200 stones, miss." She handed the hyena the stones, and he proceeded to unlock the cage. "He's your problem now."
"Thank you." He handed the chains of the slave over to her, and then moved off, presumably to assist another customer. There were quite a few around the market at the moment. "I hope I'll be a good mistress for you." She smiled at him. "Do you have any questions?"

Djoser stretched as soon as he was out of the cage, shaking first one leg then another, it was so nice to be out of there. He smiled up at his new mistress and bobbed his head again. "If it's not to much to ask Ma'am, where is it that we are going?" Djoser didn't have the slightest clue as to where she lived, or what his job would be in her household. Or even if he was going to her household, perhaps he would be put to work in her shop. He just didn't know.
All she had said was that strength and quickness were good traits, not that she would be using those particular traits. He flicked his ears as one of the other browsing hounds passed them and huffed in surprise at Ekaitz sentiment. Apparently hounds weren't supposed to "be good mistresses" He looked after the hound that had mad the noise and his ears pulled back slightly at him, there was no need to be rude.

She waited for the cat to stretch, before making her way out of the area, expecting the tan feline to follow. She didn't want to spend any more time in the smelly slave market than she had too, and she suspected that Djoser would probably appreciate some fresh air as well.
She shrugged off the hounds reaction to her statement. It wasn't the first time, and it probably wouldn't be the last. She did, after all, have a slightly different concept of how to treat her servants.
"My home is in Giza," she said. "It's about a five minute walk to the sea from where I live, and there's always the smell of the sea in the air." From the sound of her voice, it was easy to tell that she loved where she lived, that there was something about it that made her happy. "For now, you'll be my guard, and we'll see about getting you all the training that you'll need." She smiled, and paused at a food vendor. "Are you hungry?"

Djoser followed obediently after Ekaitz as she walked out of the black market. He was leaving!! Finally!! He was leaving this damned place, with a hound that seemed like a good master!! His tail twitched back and forth for a moment and his ears perked forwards, his eyes bright. He was going to the sea side!! He smiled and followed amiably after her. A guard? He thought about it, he could do that, he was strong and he was fast and he was starting to like his new mistress. He could guard her he was sure of it. He wondered what training he would need but kept his mouth shut, having not been spoken to first.
She stopped at a food vendor and he looked around the market, it was so busy out here! There were so many things to look at and, he snapped to attention immediately when he heard his mistress speaking and he looked up at her, his head tilted to the side. Was he hungry? He opened his mouth to answer her when his stomach did it for him. The smell of food had been making his mouth water and now that she mentioned it his stomach growled. He dipped his head in embarrassment "Um, yes missus..." he said.
