She ran through the grass laughing, the air wiping through her mane and tail. She enjoyed running and frolicking about being a goof when she could. Light hearted and naturally hyper, she loves to play even though she was now full grown. Slowing to a trot, her eyes surveyed the area before she dropped her head to sniff at the grass below her hooves. She liked the smell of grass and dirt because it reminded her of the simple days as a filly running and playing with her sister and father.

Heaving a soft sigh, she tossed her mane before looking up, slowing to a stop when she spotted a young female a short distance away - she appeared to be barely out of foalhood, and in her opinion, is still very much an adolescent rather than an adult... Perhaps this young mare, hopefully untainted by the world she was raised in, could change her outlook on the locals? She raised an eye brow - unlikely, but still worth a shot.
"Good morning, miss," She dipped her head gracefully in greeting when the other mare was within earshot, "Lovely weather today, isn't it?"

Looking up she smiled and raised her head. "Good morning indeed." She smiled brightly. "It's a lovely day, such nice weather." The morning was still warm but not sweltering autumn was starting to creep into the land. "I'm Merashik but most everyone I know just calls me Mera." The other mare was quite lovely and looked strong and graceful she admired the fact that one could look both able to hold their own from a glance and graceful al at the same time. She was far from graceful, at least in the lady like sense she could hold her own well enough but the real grace and lady like tendencies she thought her sister held more of.

"Merashik is a lovely name - I would prefer calling you that if you do not mind? I think nicknames should be reserved for family and close friends," Nastiras returned the smile with one of her own, secretly wondering if the customs and habits of her family and herd are unheard of here, "My name is Nastiras, and I'm rather new to these parts." She chuckled softly before continuing, "Were you raised here?"
So far, the young mare's behavior was promising - in a way, she was reminded of herself when she was an adolescent, although she was always more reserved due to her upbringing... It is through various trials and tribulations that a young, vibrant soul gets polished and strengthened, after all, and she was sure that Merashik would grow up to be a most wonderful adult!

"I don't mind." She chuckled some. "It's a pleasure meeting you Nastiras." She gave a small bow of her head. "You're new to these parts? Did you travel very far?" Her ears perked in interest. She was fascinated with the thought of some one traveling far and wide. "You could say that, yes. I use to play in this field as a foal." Such wonderful times she'd had racing with her sister or playing 'tie daddy with his cloak'.
Setting aside her thoughts she looked around for a moment. "Have you seen very much of these lands? I could maybe help to show you around a little."

"Yes, you could say that," The unicorn laughed lightly at the question. Sensing the young mare's interest, Nastiras smiled as she continued, "The landscape is similar, for my herd reside on an open plain surrounded by vast forest. However, it was colder where I came from, so the trees that grew in the forest differ from those you can find here - since I had never traveled this far before, I was rather surprised when I first reached these lands!"
She paused, smiling fondly at Merashik at her suggestion, "Oh, that is really nice of you to offer! Yes, I would like it very much if you could show me around. I had been wandering about quite aimlessly around the forest for the past week - I thought of making the mountains my next stop..." A thoughtful look crossed her features as she spoke again, "I had been told that there is a desert beyond it? It does make sense, seeing how the mountain range would have blocked the rain coming from the see from reaching the land behind it, turning it into a desert... However, I lack experience in surviving in a desert."

She thought for a moment. She vaguely remembered something about a desert being said by some one once. "Yes I believe you're right, Beyond the mountains should be a desert." She thought of which rout might be the better one to take. The faint remains of scars on her front knees from a child hood accident were mostly covered by fur that had grown on and around where the once wound was.
"I've not been to the desert myself, but I hear it's rather dry and harsh to try to survive in." She nearly frowned at the thought of not having so much lush greenery around her but shrugged it off as she moved heading towards the tree line. "I warn you though.. Cougars have been known to prowl this area.. I remember seeing one once when i was very little."

"Ah, I have a long way to travel then," Nastiras laughed softy, inclining her head to peer at the mountains in the distance, peeking out from above the forest canopy. There were mountains were she was from, and while they weren't usually explored, she felt confident enough to scale one by herself as long as it is done before winter, when the climate is not as extreme...
"Yes, I imagine so," The unicorn turned her attention back to the younger mare, a faint frown on her lips, "Rain is rare, and so are clouds... Without clouds to shield it, the sun beats down relentlessly, causing day time to be as hot as the peak of summer and night time to be as cold as winter... The extreme change in temperatures during the day and night often cause those who are not adapted to or used to life in the desert much suffering. Sand dunes as tall as several grown stallions are also difficult to climb, and the fine sand gets everywhere as the dry wind blows - your eyes, your nose, your mouth... Its a terrible place to live."
She paused; but she might find news of her missing sister there, so it would be worth the risk, provided she finds a suitable guide.
"Ah, thank you for your warning," Her tone became less serious, and she smiled, letting loose a soft chuckle as she turned to follow Merashik, "But I had dealt with things worse than cougars where I was from... So, where are we headed to, if you don't mind me asking?"

"I see.. Oh just into the forest to show you about some and towards the base of the mountain." She turned her head enough to peer back at the older mare. "I told you I'd show you around and that's what I'm doing." She spoke with a giggle and a smile as she pressed further into the forest. Her steps were light and soft, ears perked and alert to the sounds around her. all the while she kept close attention to the change of things around them lest any harm should attempt to find them.
She followed a small game trail that seemed to wind through the forest only to stop at a brook. Eying the brook closely, she slowly put one foot into the water before eventually crossing it. She'd learned her lesson of horse play and brooks when she had been younger.

"That would be nice, yes," Nastiras offered the mare a grateful smile before turning to follow her, staying close to Mera's side as they moved. She had been alone for so long that it was nice to finally have some decent company; while such a young mare might be a little too upbeat for her under normal circumstances, it was just what she needed right now - her energy was refreshing.
Although thinking like that made her feel like an old mare!
"Tell me, do you know much about the humans that inhabit these lands?" She asked when they were out of the water, her eyes literally glowing with curiosity. She then paused, shaking the water off her fetlocks before speaking again, "Where I was from, humans were a rare sight, but I had seen so many of their settlements in my short stay in this land! Are they peaceful creatures? I had heard so many terrible stories about them from the elders of my herd - how they enslave our kind to do all sorts of manual labor and how they once hunted unicorns for their horn..."

She shook her head some. "Two-leggers? Never met one so I couldn't say." She didn't recall her father ever mentioning humans before. "I hardly think all of them could be all that terrible though.. I recall a mare from my youth that seemed to Like them well enough..." She seemed to think long and hard before gradually shrugging. "But who really knows eh? I guess one would just have to face any fears and go investigate them." She offered a small smile. "Sorry I'm not much help in the mater.. Maybe my Father would know more.. But I haven't seen him around lately."

"Yes, the two legged ones," Nastiras nodded as she listened to the young mare, walking beside her. She then nodded again, "I suppose so... None had tried to enslave me or take me down for my horn since my arrival, and I had seen several Soquili walking among the humans... Unlike the ones from stories told by my herd elders, those Soquili looked at peace - like they were there on their own free will." She then paused, looking thoughtful as she continued, "Perhaps I should go down and investigate for myself."
Besides, there might be traces of her dear sister in those villages... While highly unlikely, it was still worth a shot! She then chuckled lightly, raising an eyebrow, "Your father sounds like quite the knowledgeable stallion! Had he been among humans?"

"Anything's possibly I should wager. He was a bit of a traveler before he met my mother." She smiled as she walked, glancing ahead of them to make sure she didn't lead them off the path or something. "I've always thought him to be very knowledgeable indeed, he taught me once how to tell the scent of a mountain lion when I was a foal. But apart from his more serious side, she's a load of fun to be around." She stopped for a moment to listen to her surroundings before nodding to herself and pressing on, satisfied that she hadn't heard anything to trigger any alarm. She knew in her young age that dangers lurked around, and they weren't only just other animals but other soquili aswell.

"Ah, I see... Yes, traveling does help to expand one's knowledge of the world," The Unicorn nodded to show that she had been listening, a small smile on her lips as she thought about her own father. While she could not describe her own father as 'fun', he was a wise and doting parents who wished for the best for his children... Perhaps all parents are like that; protective, and always willing to share what they know with their children. Then again, she wouldn't know; she wasn't planning to settle down for a long time yet, much less have foals!
"Basic survival skills are important," She nodded again, this time in agreement to what Mera' father had taught her, "It pays to always be on the alert - while animal predators generally do not hunt Soquili as prey, they might attack if they feel threatened. For example, if its is a mother with child... Well, it would do you good to stay away from her. If you find a lone young animal, do not attempt to try to rescue it unless you find its mother dead nearby... Chances are, its mother is still alive and nearby."

She nodded as she listened. "A good point." She grinned wide and nodded some more. The trees slowly began to change from the more fruitful trees to the trees more adapt to growing closer to mountains and cliffs. "Looks like the mountains aren't too far ahead of us... We could go right to them and look around unless you'd prefer to scout around in the forest some more." She stopped to allow the other mare some time to decide which she'd prefer to do. Sure she hadn't had many dealings with wandering around the mountain side but it would be interesting to see what was beyond it's tree line.
