This is a Private Roleplay for

Rivener (Aphismet)
Lazarus (Kyoupiruchi)
and
Xiu (Rapidashtrainer)

Time: Early Evening
Location: Barton Town Carnival
Weather: Crisp and clear-skied

PostPosted: Tue Sep 07, 2010 8:11 pm

Rivener waited by the entrance to the Carnival, hands in the pockets of his leather jacket. Already autumn was drawing near, chilling the air and making the jacket necessary. Riv wore his usual expression: a glum nothing, staring at the ground. But he'd fake it better, later, when his guests got here.

It had taken a considerable amount of courage for Rivener to decide to go through with this. He knew Laz had feelings for Xiu, and even if the PiYao didn't return those feelings, Lazarus HAD to come to terms with his own emotions on the matter. Riv had tried to broach the topic a few times at the Lab but Laz hadn't been very cooperative. So the Scorpion decided he'd need more drastic measures to try and let his good friends find love together.

If Rivener couldn't have love for himself, he'd try to find it for others. Hopefully this would work...

Glancing up and around, Riv prepared himself for the evening: he shoved his usual moping aside and tried to smile, stand up straighter, pretend things were okay. Just for one evening. Laz and Xiu should be by soon, neither of them knowing Riv had invited the other...

The invitation came as somewhat of a surprise, Lazarus had thought that the scorpion would be too gloomy to remember how to have fun. It did not cross his mind at all that this carnival trip was mentioned in one of their previous drinking sessions, being that was quite a few months ago, he was half drunk when it was discussed, and a lot had happened between then and now. So dressed in a casual grey pea coat to keep him warm in the already chilly weather, he did not suspect a thing as he approached the autumn carnival that only came by once a year, thinking about the fun things they could do together like trying out the shooting games at the booth and whatnot, and maybe take a ride or two as well. The incubus had not really been to a carnival before.

Lazarus floated a little faster as the carnival entrance came into view. Crimson eyes darting around the evening crowd, he tried to spot the tell tale black and red figure of the scorpion. Spotting him in a leather jacket by the entrance, he waved cheerfully as he started into a jog-like speed. "Hey, you're early!" He said as he looked at the watch he is wearing, bought with the money he earned from the fashion shoot. Lazarus was glad that Rivener actually looked alright, he no longer slouch, his expression was less gloomy, (although he could still see that he was still putting up a strong front) he just looked generally... better!

"So... let's go!" The incubus said as he looked into the carnival excitedly, spotting a huge ferris wheel on the far side of the carnival ground. Unknowing to him that Rivener had invited another guest.

This was rather exciting. Xiu had not expected a call from Rivener about the fair that was in town but nevertheless was quick to accept the offer. It would do him good to be out in the Carnival where happy people were about. Even if he wasn’t looking for a good meal, the fair’s generally happy atmosphere was a welcomed change to the recently over Hungry Ghost Month. It would be like a trip to a relaxing spa or something with the only difference being that instead of soaking himself in a delightful and relaxing bath, he would be soaking up the positive vibes emitted by the fair goers. That and the fact that he’d be going with another raevan; Rivener actually…

Xiu wondered how the Sigel was. The last time he had met the scorpion, Rivener’s wings were barely out of their bandages. They had probably healed by now. Floating up to the Carnival’s entrance, Xiu easily spotted the Sigel’s half glowing body but the presence of another half formed being made the white Sigel stop in surprise when he recognized its rune. Lazarus? What was the other doing here? Had Rivener invited him over as well? Odd really since the Scorpion had failed to mention it over the text message in Hazeline’s phone.

Well, all the merrier right? It was Lazarus after all. It’s not like he had never met the other before. In fact…

Letting out a silent chuckle, the white raevan hurried over; waving to the two elder Sigel as he approached them. This was going to be a fun night!

Rivener was glad he'd put on his game face early, since he hadn't noticed Lazarus coming closer until the other Sigel was near enough to speak. The Scorpion turned and smiled, though it still looked a little forced. "Hey, glad you could make it. And before we go, we have to wait for-"

Ah, for the one who waved and floated over with a grin. Rivener waved back and tilted his head, one side of his lip curling up in a vaguely flirtaceous manner. "Ah, Xiu, just on time. I'm sorry, I invited the both of you at once... I just thought we could all have fun together, us Sigel boys!" Of course Eiry was a Sigel boy too, but... all these machines might have scared him, though lately he was doing better with such things. Still, it was only an excuse anyway. Tonight was purely to try and get these two to stop being stubborn and just admit they liked one another. Assuming Xiu did, in fact, like Laz. Rivener thought he'd heard the Stars saying YES, but he could never be sure he was interpreting them right.

"Let's go have some fun, then! What do you want to try first, Xiu?" Rivener purposefully interposed himself between the two, floating just a tad closer to Xiu than he did Laz. Subtly, he would glance over at the Fire Sigel and see if he was noticing the action...

Lazarus whirled around as Xiu's name was mentioned, his crimson eyes widen in surprise at the white Sigel's presence. "You didn't..." mention he was coming. The words caught in his throat as Xiu waved. Quietly he darted his eyes towards Rivener as if questioning his real motives, there must be some other reason he failed to mention about Xiu's presence for this trip.

But... he didn't really mind Xiu joining them as well, perhaps it would be more fun this way. Smiling, he waved back at the PiYao casually. "I didn't know you were coming." It was just a mere statement, knowing that Xiu wouldn't be able to reply, at least verbally anyway.

Lazarus was about to question Eiry's absence when Rivener mentioned about 'Sigel boys', but decided to drop it and cut the scorpion some slack. Although perhaps if he did, the group wouldn't be this awkward as they entered the carnival, the scorpion was obviously talking to Xiu and floating closer to him. It's normal right? They are friends, and Rivener probably known Xiu longer and better than him anyway. Shoving his hand into his coat's pocket, he tried to ignore the awkwardness with the small distance between him and the duo. Instead, he turned to observe the surroundings, trying to see if there are anything fun to do, something that the three of them could do together perhaps.

"What's that?" Lazarus asked, spotting a stall with a bunch of glass bottles placed very closely together in a systematic way. A few were of different colors and there were people throwing hoop-like things to it. He get the impression that people are supposed to throw the hoop onto the colored bottles.

Xiu laughed good naturedly at the comment about ‘us Sigel boys’ and nodded politely at Lazarus’ statement. To be perfectly honest, the white Sigel still felt sheepish around the two male Sigels. They were his ‘seniors’ after all. Not noticing Rivener’s ‘special attention’ or even Lazarus’ awkwardness because of Rivener’s attention, the white raevan glanced around the lively fair and was at a lost for what to try. Everything looked exciting (and in a way, delicious).

Thankfully, Lazarus solved this problem by pointing out to a nearby game booth where hoops were being thrown across bottle necks. Xiu had seen it in being played in the fair with Domo before and had thought that it looked rather fun; even if most of the hoops seem to be bouncing off the bottles rather than landing on it. Pointing to the booth, Xiu looked at Rivener, seeming to ask if it that was fine with him. This act was supported by the booth’s keeper who had noticed their interest and was nodding and beckoning encouragingly to the Sigels. It did not matter that these beings seemed to lack their lower half. As long as their money was real, the booth keeper decided that he could live with that.

"Step right up errr...sirs," the man said with an impish grin. "Best game in the fair there is. And attractive prizes too!"

Rivener could tell Lazarus had noticed. Good. Now the trick would be keeping it subtle, so that Laz couldn't summon up the guts to just demand what was going on. It was going to be a thin line, but hopefully eventually Laz would just kind of try to push Riv out of the way so HE could be closest to Xiu. That was the plan.

Laz pointed out the hoop game booth and Xiu seemed alright with that, pointing and glancing at Riv. The Scorpion's fake smile broadened and he gave a soft nod. "Looks fun! Let's try it." He wondered if Lazarus had a competitive edge... Testing it out, Riv continued casually over a shoulder at their white companion: "I'll try and get you a good prize as a souvenir, Xiu! Is there any you like?" Maybe Laz would try to outdo him?

The booth keeper didn't seem all that put out by the three floating half-men, so Rivener "stepped right up" first. He shelled out the money needed, was handed a group of five hoops, and the Scorpion began aiming and throwing. The first one, a test throw (or so Riv claimed after clearing his throat) bounced off the bottle's neck. The next two landed, the fourth missed by spinning around the neck then slipping off. The fifth was a hit as well.

"Three on five, a good average!" the booth keeper praised. "You can go again right now to compound your winnings and try to go for the large teddy?"

Rivener made a show of considering it, straightening and tapping at his chin, one hand in his pocket supposedly making a tally of his money. He glanced at Xiu for an instant when he was sure Laz was looking, making it seem like he was thinking about this solely for the white Sigel's sake, but eventually Rivener sighed and shook his head. "Nah, no thanks. I have to keep some money for other fun things. But I'll take that little teddy there, please." He pointed to a light brown thing with a purplish bow around its neck. As soon as it was given to him, Rivener turned and offered it to Xiu with a smile. "Here you go, souvenir! As promised."

Lazarus feels kind of left out as Rivener brought Xiu over to the booth, seeming to be paying too much attention to the white Sigel. It's alright, he tried to tell himself, maybe Rivener just haven't seen Xiu in a long while. The fire Sigel was digging out some money when the scorpion shelled out his first. It's alright, he'll let Rivener has the first try as his hands settled in his coat pocket once more. Quietly he watched the scorpion throw the hoops, managing to score in three bottle necks. For a second he wanted to cheer for Rivener, but when he realized that the other's body language - the direction his body was facing and his gaze on Xiu, he knew that he was being ignored. Suddenly, the game doesn't seem that fun anymore. His face took on an expression of dislike as he stare at the hanging prizes all along the booth's walls, who would want those lousy soft toys anyway?

"You want to have a try, son?" The booth owner turned to Lazarus next as he noticed him digging money from his pockets earlier.

"N-no, it's okay." The Sigel only managed to crack a strained smile as he waved his hands in response. The smile disappeared as he looked at the teddy bear Rivener gave Xiu. It's alright, he continued to try to convince himself. They are probably better friends than he thought. Although he feels increasingly uncomfortable by the second, seeing Xiu hold the plush. "Let's get out of here, it doesn't seem so fun after all." He motioned towards the other two, turning around and begin to leave the booth ahead of them.

Despite Lazarus being the one who had suggested that they tried the game, it was Rivener who went first; paying the booth keeper the required amount for five hoops and tossing them at the bottles lined on the wooden shelf. Xiu was impressed. Despite the hoops falling uselessly off the bottles from the other participants, Rivener had actually managed a rather modest score of three out of five. The booth keeper had then suggested that Rivener accumulate his points so that he could try for a larger teddy bear but Rivener had declined; saying that he’d keep the money for other carnival attractions.

When the scorpion Sigel took the small teddy bear and actually offered it to Xiu, the white raevan was shocked. Although he had been told that he’d be given one, Xiu had thought that the other had said it in jest. Gingerly, the white Sigel took the offered prize and nodded awkwardly to Rivener in thanks.

Oddly enough, it was then that Lazarus declared that the game wasn’t fun anymore and motioned that the three of them should move on. Xiu bit his lip and looked wistfully at the coloured rings. He had wanted to try the game after Lazarus but decided not to argue. Maybe he would play it just before they left the carnival. Thus making up his mind, Xiu tucked the soft toy under his arm and floated after the fiery Sigel. Touching Lazarus’ arm gently, Xiu raised his eyebrows, his expression asking Lazarus if everything was alright.

Rivener hid his pout, keeping up the smiling mask. That hadn't gone as well as it could have... Lazarus hadn't tried to outdo Rivener, he'd just given up and started floating away, declaring this game boring. The Scorpion huffed lightly but noticed that Xiu, at least, was starting to pick up the slack; the white sigel caught up to Laz and gently touched him, glancing questioningly... It was kind of cute, and Rivener's heart gave a pang of longing. Not for Xiu or Laz, but just for that feeling. He wanted that again.

But that had no place here today. Shaking his head free of his momentary depression, Riv scooted up to the other two and placed himself on Xiu's other side, slipping an arm boldly around the white sigel's shoulders and leaning closer to Lazarus. "Laz, c'mon, why are you so grumpy? Did you really wanna go first or something? Or you think you can't beat my score?" The Scorpion chuckled lightly. "How about you pick the next booth again, and I'll let you go first."

When Xiu touched his arm, he stopped in his path, his head angled in a halfway turning position. The quiet, gentle grip, he knew it wasn't Rivener's hand holding him. Drawing the best smile he could, he turned around fully to face Xiu. The worry was apparent on the white Sigel's face and he did not want to make him feel uncomfortable. They were supposed to have fun right? And Xiu was the last person he would want to hurt. "I'm alright." He tried to convince Xiu. "Really, the game just doesn't seem to be as fun as I thought it would be." Shrugging his shoulder, he rolled his eyes, trying to act casually, like everything is alright.

Rivener appeared on the other side of Xiu then, he couldn't help but notice the scorpion's arm slipping around the piyao's shoulder. And it made him feel... uncomfortable. The smile disappeared from his face as Rivener challenged him to beat his score. He didn't like the way the scorpion was talking to him, the tone of gloating, like he was some sort of big shot. Well, perhaps he should put him in his place, let him know who is better.

"Alright." He wasn't about to back down from a challenge like that, his competitive side surfacing. "I picked the last one. How about you pick one next for me to try instead?" He said in a challenging tone, his crimson eyes narrowed at the scorpion. Whatever Rivener pick, he will take it on.

What…exactly was going on here? Why was Rivener challenging Lazarus to a game? And why was Lazarus looking like someone had just thrown a lemon into his mouth? The smile he had given Xiu only a moment ago turned into a definite straight line when Rivener teased (or rather taunted) him. Feeling uncomfortable, the white raevan gingerly eased the Scorpion Sigel’s arm off his shoulder. They might have been friends but having Rivener’s arm around him while the scorpion teased Lazarus made it seem as though Xiu was on Rivener’s side.

So whose side was he on then?
It was best not to think about that. Both Rivener and Lazarus were his friends and seniors and being caught in the middle of their petty challenges was not fun at all. Floating a little away from the two of them, the white Sigel gave the fair a quick glance. He needed a game where no one would need to compete with anyone else.

There. That was the perfect game. It was a child’s game but it presented no competition whatsoever. It. Was. Perfect.

Well it was more of a ride really but perhaps it was what was needed to knock the competitiveness off the two males. Turning to both Rivener and Lazarus, Xiu pointed to a brightly lit carousel close to a stall selling blinking hats and wands. It was perfect. With a carousel, it was a horse to a person and there was nothing competitive about it. It merely went round and round, up and down. Plus it had a lot of young people about. Xiu reckoned it was about time he had some dinner.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 15, 2010 2:45 pm

Well, that only worked half-way. Lazarus had risen to the challenge, meaning he felt like he had to prove something... But now it was Xiu who wasn't cooperating, killing their competition before it even really began. At least it kind of looked like Xiu hadn't really wanted to let Rivener touch him like that while challenging Laz... a little bit of a good thing?

Rivener cursed at himself. It had been a juvenile thing to try, yeah, and he huffed. How else could he get Laz to want to confess to Xiu? Without being a total a*****e to either of them in the doing, that is? The white Sigel had pointed out the merry-go-round, and Rivener snickered lightly in amusement. And I was thinking myself childish... might as well go along with it.

"Sorry Xiu. You want to go on this ride then? I'm game." Riv floated along with Xiu, once again standing just a tad closer than he should. Maybe if he acted normal but just kept this closeness between them, it would be enough to try and get Lazarus to want to put himself inbetween...

Well that was an easy solution. Lazarus thought dryly as he looked at the carousel Xiu pointed in interest. He was so totally game on Rivener's challenge too. Perhaps the tension between the two of them were making the white Sigel uncomfortable. This is probably for the better though, as much as Lazarus want to win at something, at the same time he didn't want to see Rivener's expression when he loses. God knows he had been facing it for nearly a month.

"Sure, that looks fun." Although he couldn't help but notice that majority of people on the carousel currently are children. There were a few teenagers waiting in line as well. It is now or never, he didn't want to feel awkward being the only group of teen-lookalike people stuck among a bunch of kids. He didn't want to feel childish. "Come on." He said as he motioned the other two to follow, floating ahead of them to get in line behind a young boy who looked to be about 14 years old. A cheeky grin spread across his face as he revel quietly in his small victory for arriving in the line first before Rivener.

Grabbing onto the railing around the carousel, he stare at the attraction in wonder. He had only seen a carousel, or a merry-go-round on TV, this is the first time he had seen a real one. Although it looked childish, but the scenes in the TV shows always looked so fun. This carousel wasn't very big in size, only having two horses per row, but the horses were very intricate in design. There were detailed drawings on the center area as well, depicting scenes from various fairy tales. Pretty lights lined the ceiling and even on the pole of the horses itself.

The carousel started to slow as the current session ended, the kids getting off the horses and scattering towards the exit. It's their turn next! Turning around, he looked at Xiu excitedly. "Let's go!" He hope he could get a horse beside Xiu's.
