It was just a typical day at the dome of glass and brass. Sunlight filtered in through the panes, warming the structure despite the incoming autumn coolness that lurked outside. Among the lush greens of the newly-grown plant buds of the day, a bobbing mass of blonde hair could be seen poking up from one aisle. The owner of the hair crouched, busy checking the irrigation pipes. Oh, they weren't broke or anything; Amaranth was just checking for any leaks or possible future breaks. Better safe and prepared than sorry, no?
It was a slow day at the greenhouse; just the way the sundial boy liked it. There wasn't anyone there to cause loud noises...well, besides Ezri. But she was outside at the moment, so it was all good. The boy reached under the table, tightening the valve on one of the pipes to halt the dripping of water. He pulled back, standing up. Bare feet splashed through water that had leaked out earlier as he made his way down the row, now checking the nozzles that sat nuzzled among the rows of plants. All seemed to be in order. And that's when he felt a hug from behind. Letting out a small, resigned sigh, he looked up into the pale green face of his guardian.
"How is the dearest child of mine?" She crooned, smiling serenely as she planted a kiss on his upturned forehead. "All be well, I hope?" She smiled, reaching a hand up to gently brush hair away from his face. She knew how awkward he was with physical contact, but....she really hoped that, with time, he'd become more comfortable with it. She let her arms drop away from the boy, moving back to allow him to turn to face her.
Wiping his forehead off with his sleeve, Amaranth turned on heel. For the first question, he held a thumb up. For the second, her merely nodded. He wasn't trying to be rude, but... his mother knew his gestures by now. Why waste words when a simple movement could get his point across. Black, hollow eyes looked towards the door of the greenhouse as the bell tolled, signaling that someone had entered the front door.

"Now, Faiya, you know the rules. If you want to look at the pretty flowers, you have to keep your dress on," the no-nonsense voice of the brunette woman echoed through the greenhouse as she came through the door, a pouting, decidedly-blue toddler in her arms. Faiya looked up at her Mama and scowled, folding her arms and trying to look indignant - but failing miserably.
"Bu' Mama, clothes're itchy!" she complained, before being distracted by all of the pretties that were in sight. "Ooooh, Mama, lookit tha'! Lookit tha'!" Her mother sighed and adjusted her grip so that the now flailing toddler couldn't escape her arms to run around and get into trouble. Faiya wasn't making it easy, though - a bundle of waving arms and kicking legs, the blue child was just desperate to get away from her Mama and see what she had been pointing so excitedly at - not a flower, though Tish didn't realize that, but a blond boy who had caught her interest by virtue of his odd neck-spikes and deep black eyes.
"Faiya. Calm down or we're going home," Tish said, and her tone brooked no argument, causing the little girl she held to fall still and once again pout a little. Stepping further into the greenhouse, the brunette peered around, her gaze landing on the blond boy as well before settling on the green lady who was more obviously the owner - or manager or whatever it was you called that sort of position at a greenhouse.
"Oh... hello - it's... alright that we're here, isn't it?" she asked hesitantly, not sure if the greenhouse was actually letting people come in or not... she should have looked more closely at the hours before deciding to take her currently-lemongrass-scented daughter to another odor-filled outing.

Iskara offered a warm smile, laughing lightly. "Of course you are welcome here, child." she said, almost singing the words in the sunshiny, lilting voice of hers. "If one wasn't welcome here, the portal yonder would be clasped tight-shut and horngabled to ward off passerbys. Now, how is it I may be of service to you and your kin? Is there anything particular you are in need of?"
Amaranth took notice of the potential customers, idly arranging the plants and blossoms so they'd look they're best. Well, what he considered best, which meant the poor daisy/dill potted combo was being woven into a circular pattern. After all, circles represented the circular cycles of time; never ending, never relenting. After deciding that the plant looked good enough, he made his way over to the customers. Reaching into the folds of his shirt, he pulled out a pamphlet, checking it a moment before holding it out to the woman. With it's folded pages, the paper described what plants they had in season now and their various uses, as well as what would be in season year round.

"I thought Faiya and I might look around for a little while, and if she sees something she likes, we could buy it," Tish admitted. "My daughter's always fascinated with new scents, and I thought this place would have some things she's never smelled before," the brunette said, setting Faiya down at last and watching her run over to the - oh, so it hadn't been a flower that she was pointing at earlier, but an older boy.
"Hello, hello! My name's Faiya! Wha's your name? D'you live here? D'you like livin' wi' the pre'y flowers? I'd like livin' wi' pre'y flowers! I can smell like a flower! Look, look!" the toddler chirped as her scent shifted to lilies and morning glories.

"If ye be looking for unique scents, you will want to check the northern-most corner." Iskara said, making a sweeping motion towards the aforementioned area. "Tis where our more special plants and herbs reside. I guarantee ye'll not be finding them anywhere else." The corner she pointed to was indeed the most colorful and vibrant corner of the green house. It also emanated the most power-charged; the natural magic was thick enough that you could swear you could feel it dancing across your skin.
Amaranth blinked at the sudden onslaught of questions. He motioned to himself, bowing politely. "Amaranth." he said, his voice awkward and barely above a whisper, which showed how much he used those old vocal cords of his. He then shook his head; no, he didn't live here. Though, he did live surrounded by plants... He offered the small one a small nod, but a smile refused to work its way upon his face. "That is very impressive." he murmured, even if he really didn't smell anything out of the norm. They were in a greenhouse, after all.

Tish nodded and bowed her head politely to the greenhouse-keeper in thanks. "Thank you," she said, then marched over to Faiya, tugging her away from the blonde boy and pulling her up into her arms. "Come on, baby - we came here looking for smells, remember? Let's go find some new ones," she said, refusing to put Faiya down even when the toddler kicked out a little, pointing at Amaranth excitedly.
"Mama! Mama! This's my new friend! Say hi!" Faiya chirped, waving desperately at Amaranth because she was much more interested in talking with him than she was in going off to investigate the new smells. He was right there and so neat, why couldn't her Mama see that he was more interesting than anything else right now?

Iskara offered a smile, chuckling at the little girl. Aye, what a beautiful, energetic little dear the child was. "You are welcome in excess." the brunette cooed softly, smiling at Tish. She glanced from the little girl, then to her own little one. "Amaranth, go forth with our guests and assist them in their botanical pursuits." she said, nudging the boy toward them. Some socialization would do the boy some good, and the little one seemed friendly enough.
Amaranth blinked at his mother, pausing to stare at the woman a moment before giving a nearly-unpercievable nod. He looked to Tish, bowing a moment before motioning her to take the lead. New friend, huh? Well, wouldn't be the first time someone claimed him as a friend without asking him, so he didn't mind much. He looked to the younger girl, offering her a small wave. See, he was coming. No need to get loud.
