User ImageShe was ravenously hungry and beginning to dip into the state of mind that led one to eat anything: carrion, berries, grass if she had to - and never without sight of the river that led her now. The rebellion was a failure and Bital was lost without her pack, her god. A beta in title and nothing more! Lonely for days now, the wolf might have even welcomed Shinsa's presence, if only to know that she was not quite alone. She had never been, not even while under Zeus's rule . . .

And now Bital faced a very horrible question: Now what?

Everythign had been riding on the utter decimation of her old pack, the placing of Thanatos at its head, the converting of it into their own. And maybe, just maybe a place near his side once more, higher than she had been previously. A confidant, a consort, a queen if he would have her! The dream was shattered now, and the wolf suffered from the glass shards in her heart and mind as she trudged forward, a half-eaten carcass left behind her.

It wasn't quite hope anymore that made her keep going. Now it was more of a sense of self-preservation, that pervading knowledge that though she had nothing, she could only if she knew where to look. Was her god truly dead? It was such a fall, Bital's heart had stopped with horror. Now with bitter rancor she resisted giving into the knowledge that perhaps her alpha was not as invincible as he said; if she accepted that fact, then all was lost.

She was nothing without him. She could not believe it was all over!

Wrapped in the dark thoughts that sustained her now, barely even comprehendible or verbal ones, Bital stalked the eve, lost in her own world of half-hunger and half-disgust.

Grimmjow had trailed Bital since the pack had exploded into shards of defeated little cowards. Shinsa had vanished, Krishna was....somewhere, he didn't quite care. Thanatos had proved that his 'godly' attributes did not include flight, and Grimmjow didn't have a clue as to where the quiet one, Hypnos, had gone...

Ah well. Thanatos' grand plot to destroy the Acropolis pack had failed miserably, and it only made the white, half-masked wolf giggle.

He had found his little toy and followed her as she wandered aimlessly, lost without her god and pack. Unlike her, he still hunted, or took advantage of the half eaten kills she left behind. Unlike her, he didn't fret over anything, especially not the loss of their 'god'.

As he watched her for days....weeks....he saw her slip farther and farther into herself and her thoughts, waiting for the perfect time to strike.

And the perfect time....was now....

Left, right, left, right . . . The growls of her stomach were distant in her ears. There was probably nothing to feed on tonight yet again. Just more water if she could find it, shade, berries if she must. Bital wasn't very good at determining which were the non-poisonous variety, though, so that was a risky venture. One wrong swallow and it'd probably overpower her weakening constitution.

The worst part about it were the vivid, paranoid thoughts that now accompanied her. Bital had of course had such ideas whispering at the back of her head since Thanatos had created his pack, but they were nothing compared to what plagued her now. Every once in a while she would suddenly stiffen, pause, and dart furtive glances behind her. Was someone following her? But no, why would they . . . Yet she could not shake the feeling, and it was grating on her patience.

"Stop following me!" she growled at a tree, and then with no prelude switched her aggressive stance to a submissive one, hastening forward a few lopes before tiredness caught back up to her once more. Bital was not fit for this lifestyle, this "looking after herself" schedule: it had always been to please someone else, so that they in turn would help provide for her. She was nothing without at least one or two other wolves to hunt with. The femme spat at the ground and began the murmur to herself. "Always something, always someone, always . . ."

Grimmjow's maw split into a grin when she growled at the tree before dashing a few yards away in a classic omega pose. Oh how he was going to enjoy this...

He rolled in the dirt, disheveling his usually pristine white fur, and tore at his own foreleg with his fangs until he bled. Then he adopted a limp, and let a whimper fall from his maw as he stumbled out of the trees beside her, gasping for air.

The perfect actor.

"Bi...tal..." he moaned, before collapsing at her feet.

Predictably, the second she heard trampled grass Bital jumped back with a half-snarl, half-yelp as she eyed what came. This time it was true! This time she was followed! Oh gods above and below, she was going to die, long before she was able to find the Death she truly wanted, long before she could even find proper food and shelter, long before she saw another of her kind, before she could even muster the courage to think -

. . . Grimmjow.

Gods. Damned. Grimmjow.

He looked as weary as she did (though in her mind far dirtier than she'd ever allow herself to become), moaning her name before crumpling before her. Bital had never liked the pale loner's obsession with her and was in no uncertain belie that she had been followed - for how long, she didn't know. The male had survived the war somehow, cursed luck! Though never before had she been granted the upper paw concerning her stalker's habit of never being caught or shaken off when she wanted him out of sight.

Now he was right there before her, fur tussled and marred by dirt, blood pouring from his leg . . . She paused her growling long enough to inspect the wound: teeth marks, she couldn't care to identify from what at this point. Well, he certainly seemed weak enough, and there was little point in allowing him to continue dogging her steps.

So Bital leaned forward, jaw loosening as she began to try and gnaw on her companion's leg. Fresh meat would not be so willing, and she was loathe to ignore such an opportunity to sate her stomach.

His acting certainly didn't attain the response he was expecting...When she started gnawing on his leg, he let out a yelped oath and rolled away from her, limping for real this time.

"Hey!" he snarled, glaring at her. "What do you think you're doing?! I'm not a goddamn bone! You could've at least waited to make sure I was dead! I find you after all this time, and this is how you greet me? I'm injured! And you tried EATING ME!"

His cyan eyes flashed angrily and he advanced on her, teeth bared and still stained with his own blood as a threatening growl fell from his lips.

Too soon her teeth clenched on nothing! She chewed on this nothing and swallowed air, but still tasted his sweet, warm blood. Dully Bital noticed that for a worn out wolf, Grimmjow certainly had that same annoying rebel attitude. She licked her lips, returning his snarl with a growl of her own. "Sit there and bleed, and you think I'd welcome you like anything more than prey? I ache for good meat. Fresh meat." The words were tasty on her tongue.

Apparently with hunger the beta lost any pretense she might have had normally. She eyed him with an instinctual, predatorial gleam, unsure what was keeping her from lunging and trying to finish the job. Well, other than the threatening weakness she felt within herself. Maybe it was because at least her ears were filled with someone else's moans for once - even if it had to be his.

Yet Bital wanted to get out, lose this ghost and never see him again. At the same time, this was a connection to the pack; a lose one at that, but a connection all the same. Did he know about the others? Did he know about . . . ? "What do you want, skullface?" she asked, stiffening as he approached and hating that she was beginning to back up in response. "There's nothing left with me."
