Time had gone by and Itsaso had grown closer and closer to the shy cub she'd met months ago. They'd spent a good bit of time together, he coming to her for support, a sort of mutual comfort given they'd both forgotten all about their birth mothers; while she'd gone to him to escape her adoptive parents' workout sessions. Together they'd while their hours away, totally at ease even when the rest of the world seemed uncomfortable.
And so Itsaso had come to a decision. She was a smart enough female, and she realized what many her age were up to--pairing off and drawing close. For a time she'd worried, what about her? No one showed much interest. Was something wrong with her? But then she'd seen the truth. Other males wrote her off, not because she was an outcast or defective...to them she was already taken and spoken for.

And interestingly enough the thought of him and her together hadn't been an 'icky' one. In fact, it seemd rather nice. And so she stuck herhead down the tunnel into Iris' den. "Sant'Iris! Come on out! I need to talk to you!"
Iris laid in his little den, plotting of what to do today. He had grew recently and it's been pretty nice. Through out that time he had been staying with Itsa most of the time. All his memories of this places was with Itsa, well most of them. The good parts anyways. She was the only one he could truly talk to without getting terribly scare. She was nice and pretty and love his favorite food. And it did help that she didn't mind that he was becoming a bit pudgy too because well so was she. It was good, everything was good. They were best of friends and it was great.
Ok so everything was not alright. He had grown to the age where he should be looking for a female to date right? Well what if he couldn't find one? He was awfully shy and the only one he could think of was Itsa but they were only friends. Plus what would she think if he brought another female around? It would a be a bit awkward. They laughing and having a good time over there inside joke and this other female wouldn't know what they were talking about. Oh this was not good at all. He sigh and peel open a banana to eat. Banana always help him feel better. They were so sweet, how would anyone not feel better eating a banana?
Nibbling he heard something and perk his ear. It sounded like Itsa? Grabbing a couple of his favorite treats he head up and pop out to sit right next to her. He knew it was good to bring food because she would be happy that he did.
Of course she was happy to see Iris, and that he'd brought food? Even better! Yes, she knew she'd be making the right choice here. He knew what she liked and didn't even need her to ask...he was so thoughtful. Really he was a good guy, ifthere ever was one.
"Iris." She butted her head against his and snatched up one of the snacks. Mmm. He knew just how to ply her! "You look good. Mane comin' in and all." She tweaked a bit of it with a paw while she munched. Hadn't he just been some little scrawny thing before? And wait...hadn't she been young too? It seemed like all of a sudden she'd made up her mind and now she just couldn't see him in that same way.
"So. I've made up my mind." She looked him square in the eye, and lashed her tail. "You're gonna be my boyfriend." It wasn't a question, butthen Itsa'd never been a girl to doubt herself. She was stubborn and sure of herself. And this? Well it seemed too right to doubt.
He blink and smiled at her. She was so nice, and a great friend. He sway his tail, because he already knew she was happy about bringing out the bananas. He looked at her. She had also grown and she look pretty. But Iris would never say that because she might get mad with him.
As she smiled with his man he laugh a bit, not minding that she snatch a banana right out of his paw. Taking one also he peeled it and ate it gently, swaying his tail. He blushed at her words. He was never goo with complements they always made his pink face even pinker. Though he didn't mind it because Itsa wouldn't care. He looked over and wondered if he should say something about her coat it was pretty but what if she didn't like what he was saying. Glomping he started to sweat and squeaked out what he had to say, "um............err......You coat looks nice...........err....yeah" He look further away and swayed his tail nervously.
Taking a bit of his banana to hide his nerves, he smiled. Maybe she would like his word. Hearing her once again he choke a bit on his banana and looked her. "um.....sure?" he wasn't sure what to say. If she wanted him to be what else could he say. "Er.....so Itsa, ....what does this mean?" he squeaked out still a bit surprise.
Oho! So he'd got up the courage to compliment her? That was rare...and it made her nearly blush, something equally as rare. Thankfully the delicious banana treat distracted her...but she was still happy. Just because she was confident didn't mean that she didn't feel great when he said nice things too.
"What does it mean? Well, it means we're dating silly!" She looked thoughtful. "Lions who are dating...they spend lots of time together, and talk, and eat together, and just...are. Most of that we do already. So...not much different. Just..." She shrugged. "I guess we think about...if it'd work. Being mates, I mean. If it keeps going well."
She seemed unfazed by his distress and focused fully on her treat, munching away. Almost as an after thought she added, "Besides. Of all the lions my age, I like you best. And I'd feel bad for ditching you for some GUY. AND...you're cute."

He nodded while she talked but he was still highly confused. He was pretty sure that the word boyfriend scare him a lot more then it should be. Did this mean that he would have to look out for her, all the time? He couldn't even look out for himself.
He started to panic, what If Itsa hated him after this. He couldn't have that. She was his bestfriend and he wanted to please her. If she wanted him to be her boyfriend then he would have to suck it up, right?
He nodded once more when she was done speaking... "what..we...already do?" he said softly. Alright. That didn't sound too bad. I mean if dating was what the already did then he would be ok at that because she already like him. He smiled at his thought, this wasn't going to be too hard if he knew what he was already doing.
He blushed when she talked again. It was nice of her to think about him like that. He was happy that he wasn't ditch for another GUY. And when she called him cute her trun a bright redish-pinkish hue. He didn't know what to say. He hadn't been called cute since he was like a cub. He smiled and slowly drew his paw out. As it got closer to her, he started to sweat but his sucked in some air and gain the courage to pull her close and give her a swift fast little lick on the head.
That was typical boyfriend stuff right?
Oh he hoped so. He was so nervous, she was still close to him and if she didn't like that then he wouldn't know what to do.

He was taking this all very well. But she never expected Sant to be one to complain or protest too hard. He was shy and easy to intimidate, but she didn't want to use those kinds of tactics on him. She might be loud and a bit pushy, but she wasn't a bully, after all.
"Pretty much, yeah. We spend time together and see how we fit. It's nothing serious, I think. But if we keep getting along we could become mates." That'd be nice. Sant was really one of her only good friends. Her only male one for sure. Both of them had started as outcasts of a kind, so she felt like it was a better fit, them together, than either of them with someone who'd been born here.
His small show of affection touched her, and she laughed heartily and licked him back. "That's more like it! See, you'll do fine. And later, if we decide to be mates, you'll have to come meet my family, okay? Mom isn't TOO stern, so I don't think she'll like yell at you or anything. Probably will at me though. She never thinks I do enough running." She leaned against him, happy for now to not have to worry about hose things. Just being here with him was enough for her right now.

Nothing serious. Man that made him feel a whole lot of better. He now didn't have to worry if he did something wrong or not. Phew..What a load off his shoulder. Not that it matter or not, even if it was serious he would of taken great pride to show that he was good for her. That was boyfriend stuff also..well he hoped.
He blinked. She licked him back and he blushed even hard. It felt nice to be touch be someone other then your family. It was a nice feeling he guessed.
Wait.......family. Iris was not good with family. He hadn't even meet his mother or his three other siblings that lived with her. This family made him a bit quesy inside. He didn't know how to deal or even talk to mothers. What if she hated him or worst wouldn't like Itsa see him again. He look down and sallowed some spit...."A-are you sure...she won't hate me....." he spit out. it was hard for him to even think about the word mother. It was a very sore spot.
