"Easy," Allen muttered. "Easy."
The transition to the new hierachy in the labs had not been seamless, and some of the staff were taking it better than others. Allen could remember the original Mewtwo project, and after twenty-odd years was rather ingrained in his ways. To find complete and utter control of the labs gently eased from his grasp put the middle-aged man out of sorts, and he sought to make up for it where he could.
Right now it was manifesting itself in the compulsion to hover over the agent at the controls of the incubation tank, something that required him to rise up slightly on his toes in a way that made his worn, acid-scarred loafers creak.
The redheaded woman standing near the tank shifted her weight to one foot and folded her arms, absently smoothing the long gloves of her elite uniform as she observed the process. Her intent gaze was on the form within, about the size of a three-year-old human.
Wires sagged as liquid drained from the heavy-walled tube.

All it knew was a dark, warm, weightless existence. Eyes were sealed shut to the light, limbs and tail folded in what would be considered a fetal position. It's small body had grown suspended inside the liquid of the tube, the wires connecting it to machinery had monitored its vitals and progress. However, now something was changing, there was a disturbance in its once tranquil world. Bubbles rose around it as the liquid drained and it could feel itself descending until it gently landed on the bottom of the tube. The liquid soon drained away completely, leaving the newly born Pokemon's silver and blue skin glistening as it dried. It stirred, a cough and then a sneeze expelling the remnants of liquid from its mouth and nostrils. Large blue eyes then cracked open, squinting against the light to a visage that was blurred. Muffled sounds reached her ears, incomprehensible voices that sounded far away. It was disorienting and confusing. It was a miniature Mewtwo, a baby if you will. Brought into a world it didn't yet understand.

"Allen," Nyx turned her head slightly towards the Head Scientist without looking away from the controls, "calm down, its just a tank drain." There was a tinge of amusement to her voice. However, despite the procedure being about as simple as pulling the plug out of a bath tub, his hovering was starting to make her nervous. She understood, though, why he was antsy. This was an important project.
Nyx watched intently as the small form in the tank drifted down and finally touched a solid surface for the first time. Things seemed to be going well so far. She was glad. Science was always better when things went well.

Mau had a clipboard, and was scribbling notes down till the very moment the probes disconnected from the subject. He hadn't in his wildest dreams thought something like this was possible. His eyes flickered to Allen then to the tank. It was looking good so far, and thankfully, the equipment was holding up.
He did have to school his expression as the mewtwo sneezed. Somehow in the tense air of the labs, he found it amusing. "So far, all signs are normal." He just hopped they stayed that way. It hadn't started rampaging or taking over minds or anything.

"'Just,'" Allen scoffed, bristling slightly at the suggestion to 'calm down.' "I could tell you stories." It was all very well for the labs' newest agent to be so blithe. She didn't have to deal with a certain surly elite's unreasonably high expectations for his own legendary clone. In the scientist's eyes, Nyx was a child - she wasn't even thirty yet! Nothing but rash young bottlewashers being recruited these days, the ones who took a 400 Hz NMR machine with graphing software for granted.
(Actually, there were a lot of things bothering Allen.)
"Good," Nadja acknowledged, and stripped off her gloves, which made Allen blink. Her voice had the businesslike edge off and was softer than the usual, owing to the presence of the newborn psychic. The click of the elite's heels was lost in a loud hiss as the tank seal depressurized and the Mewtwo was exposed to the outside air for the first time. Kneeling, she extended a hand palm up, fingers slightly curled.
The Mewtwo's first glimpse of the world was fire red hair, a thoughtful smile, and a surprisingly gentle voice.
"Hello."

The noises were strange and the hissing of the tank as it depressurized seemed to startle the Pokemon for its eyes were now wide open. It blinked several times, trying to adjust as the blurred images started to become clearer.
It would then be looking up at a tall form with blazing red hair and a kind expression. The voice reached her ears but there was a second voice coming from this being as well. Thoughts that seemed to flow into the Mewtwo's mind without any effort.
The infant psychic said nothing, but looked at the extended hand. It took a few moments of mental processing, but eventually it lifted an arm. Holding up a three digit hand, the youngster looked at it, as if discovering the appendage for the first time. It then reached out, lightly touching the end of its rounded fingers against Nadja's slender ones. Blue eyes then looked up quizzically.

Nyx watched her superior closely as she interacted with the subject. She took careful mental notes about what was going on. It was curious they were starting so young... but not without good reason. Things of this nature worked better if started at a young age. Perhaps that was why they were having problem with that other experiment... Maybe if they scrapped that and started over, there would be better results.
She looked at Mau, then the readings, then back at the subject and Miss Nadja. Nyx would have to try and keep her mind from wandering so much, since they were around a psychic type.

Hm. Blue eyes.
This silent, quietly amused observation was part of what prompted a broader smile at the touch of skin on skin. Nadja slid her fingers further under the Mewtwo's own, brushing against the fine hairs. They curled, exerting a gentle lift as she straightened up. "Try standing," she prompted with a murmur.
There were other psychic readings in the room. The middle-aged man with the glasses and comb-over, for example, was radiating tension, impatience, and a bruised ego.
Strange markings. Some sort of pleiotropy, maybe.

The presence of the woman was comforting and reassuring, and thus when prompted to stand, the Mewtwo did. Slowly easing up onto two legs, but they were wobbly and unsteady at first and she stumbled. On instinct, both hands gripped Nadja's arms, eyes going wide again as it tried to steady itself.
The negative feelings exuding from Allen caught the Pokemon's attention though and it looked his away. Somehow knowing that the thoughts and feelings were coming from him.
"Pleiotropy?"
The first word, spoken into the minds of everyone in the room. The voice was somewhat melodic, innocent, and definitely feminine. As if coming from a small girl.

"Ah." Nyx too, was taking notes, and started to write as the pokemon stood. Muscle control within norms, pleiotropy- What? Nyx looked up. "Mm, yes." Ability to communicate psychically already present. Gender identity, female?
The scientist wrote down some of the readings from the various screens before turning her attention back to the mewtwo and Nadja.

Mau's pen stopped as he looked at the small mewtwo. He gave it a smile. He glanced once more at the monitors and compared it to his notes. Everything read normal. He took a small step forward, and set the clipboard down.
"Everything read's normal." He said softly to Nadja. He couldn't help the soft tone to his voice. The mewtwo was like a child- like so many of the rockets, that he felt he should speak carefully to it. "I'm going to take the electrodes off, alright? It won't hurt at all." He promised the little one. He reached slowly towards the mewtwo.
Relax. Slow movements. Don't frighten the child. Mau even thought of the pokemon as a child.

Light glinted off the scientist's glasses as he adjusted them, his expression flat and unmoved by the new life. His superior officer's first instinct was to lean forward and provide support, like a mother with a small child. This was looking less like the experiment of an international crime syndicate and more like a macabre satire of a family scene.
Allen's private fulminations were interrupted by a sweet voice in his head. He recoiled as if stung, struck by the clarity and focus of the telepathy. This was what they'd made it for. He smirked, and began drafting a report in his head. Preliminary tests indicate successful psychic amplification..
Nadja cast a glance at Allen, but her attention was on the Pokemon. "A word," she told it - her? while a tall figure approached behind her. "You'll learn what it means." So. A little girl.
Emotionally developed Rockets were a rarity. Although such experiments weren't Mau's particular field of study, Nadja had selected him for his relatively pleasant demeanor and general competence. But he was tall, and though his careful movements around the clone earned him a silent note of approval, he was still imposing.
"This is Mau," the woman explained, half-bent at the waist to let the miniature Mewtwo steady herself. "I'm Nadja."

Big blue eyes looked up at Mau as he drew closer to remove the wires attached to the Mewtwo. However, it seemed that his careful thoughts and slow motions did not alarm her, for she didn't move.
The baby Mewtwo's attention then went to the red haired woman. A tilt of her head given as introductions were made.
"Mau... Nadja." She repeated in the same manner as before.
She was clearly intelligent, although naive, for she could tell something was missing. Managing to gain enough balance to hold onto Nadja with only one hand, she put the other on her chest... and then patted it three times.

Her free hand went up to her temple as the mewtwo spoke into their minds. It was an unusual sensation having something speak into one's mind.
She sighed and kept taking notes. Subject appears aware of self. Nyx watched further. Now was not a good time for 'booster' shots.

Mau smiled at the mewtwo and slowly began removing the probes. One at a time, being careful around her. When she spoke... er, thought their names, he smiled at her. "That's right. The others are Nyx and Allen." With the last probe disconnected, he smiled at her. "Do you feel alright?" Her actions worried him. Why was she touching her chest like that?
