Okay, I can't make clothing like some of the more talented cosplayers around, but I can so slight modifications. Removing pockets without leaving any marks, adding cuffs or realistic gunfight wounds, ect...
I had made some felt cuffs and had slid them onto the arms of the coat, and started to sew. Well, I tried anyway. Problem: I was attempting to get a needle through two layers of felt and a layer of suede inbetween. If you've never worked with suede before, think layered denim. By the time i figured out I couldn't POSSIBLY get it done with the tools on-hand, I had already broken two needles and bent another one. I finally managed to sew them together using an oversized needle (about as thick as a nail) and a pair of pliers to get it all the way through. I'm going to be doing the other cuff tonight. stressed
Post some of your annoyances/incidents.

Stretchy vynil... You can't machine sew it properly so all the straps on my Paine cosplay I sewed by hand... My poor fingers hurt so much after that... crying
One thing that really annoys me though is running out of thread on the bobine when I'm almost done... Especially when it's a really long seam. I don't redo the whole seam mind you, but it's annoying to have to stop, refill the bobine, putting it back on and restarting the seam just a little bit higher than where it stopped...
And a little tipm if you are machine sewing suede, take a leather needle ^^ Very efficient ^^

gah, I had this problem. Though in my case I was attempting to sew a zipper onto a jacket through lined material and ducktape. *brick'd* I learned the hard way that it just couldn't be done, so did it by hand... but when I got done with it I found that I had sewn the zipper inside out. gonk so I had to REsew (BY HAND) the zipper again. Learned a lesson there.. sweatdrop
but now my sewing machine hates me, and I haven't been able to make my under shirt for the outfit. D,:
(ah, that felt good to vent. -;;- so very sorry about your troubles, I can sympathize. x-x; )

Incidents huh? Well the one that nearly made me cry was when I had just finished making the top for my costume (probably the second that I had ever made by the way) and it was sitting on the sewing machine table. I guess I left it in the sewing room over night and when I woke the next morning my dog had torn it to shreads (we had just adopted her and she was in a chewing stage) I almost cried.
I also just detest sewing stretchy material with the sewing machine. you have to be really good to be able to do that, or really shiney material because it makes it all slick and then you can really apply pressure to keep it straight but if you don't apply any its not straight anyway. Yea and my sewing skills aren't the best anyway.
Thats it for now.

xd Cabbit hats! Sewing the ears in: I like to sew a fold in because the ears hang cuter that way, but then Iam sewing through 2 layers of hat, plus the two layers of fleece and one of fur in the ear doubled over (total of 8 layers of fleece and fur) I have an industrial serger I work with, but that still makes it sluggish, and I have had it curl a needle and kick broken needle bits in my face doing that. >.< So I need to clip away the inner ear layers on future ones....and always wear my glasses when sewing them for fear of being jabbed in the eye. sweatdrop I also have a talent for catching a random bit of sleeve in the shoulder seam and having to pick it back, which while it is very easy to fix, it really slows me down when it happens. razz

I dislike it when my sewing machine jams on me. Tho, it doesn't happen all the time, but it usually does when my top thread is too short and I have to re-thread the whole thing again. It also annoys me when I have to sew stretchy fabric and it always moves. Like one layer will be longer than the other. Maybe I should go back to reading my manual.

I was sewing something onto a pair of shorts and I accidentally hit the button with the sewing machine and broke my needle. xd

Elastic that flips over so you get a twist in what you've just selasticized.
Expensive patterns
PAtterns that are too big for me anyway. I'm size A (anime/anorexic)

On the first costume I ever made (Sakura from Naruto) I was using a silky fabric, and I wanted to have the zipper curve out to the side like it's supposed to (which was aggravating enough). But the fabric I used didn't work well with such a heavy zipper, so it caused some wrinkles around the zipper where it bent.....and it was just really horrible. It came out looking okay, but....I made some bad choices there. ^.^;

Zippers. I hate sewing zippers.
Silky material. Loathe using that materal. For some reason I just can't work with it. Mind you I use the proper setting and all that jazz... but I still hate it.
One time I was in a rush to finish heming a friend's costume when I ran the needle over a pin and broke it. 20 minutes later I repeated my mistake. =_= I guess its what happens when you are trying to make a deadline or when friends ask for super last minute favors.

I always seem to sew the arms on wrong. Ive managed to sew them on inside out upside down and once I DID even sew the arm hole shut by accident. redface That was a loong time ago though. Hemming strech material is what I find the most annoying thing ever.

heh - i was makeing the school uniform from CCS and my mom ( trained and works as a fashion designer and god to all things sewing) decides she knows better than me (which she usually does) sweatdrop
problem was - she didn't listen to me about the material i was using for the skirt - it proceeded to be wrecked under our sewing machine - nd when i went back to the shop to get more - they'd sold out! crying
Note to self *dont let anyone near my cosplay* stare

Though I love the look of satins and silks, I HATE working with them! And they probably hate me right back, because they fray like there was no tomorrow! I have a really stupid machine. The bobbin sits upright instead of laying down, which causes it to come unthreaded REALLY easily! I'll be sewing something, and BOOM! Everything is bunched up and almost ruined because of the unthreaded bobbin! *stabs expensive patterns* Why does it cost so much for a simple coat pattern?

Biggest cosplay annoyance = my grandma's sewing machine. It's a pretty old machine, I mean, it still works and all if you don't mind the number stiches it tends to skip or stopping every few minutes to check the thread so it doesn't get caught or it's lack of the ability to do a zig zag stitch . . .
Also, I hate hems though they are sadly neccessary. Plus, I'm OCD about certain things. One of them is the hem being even . . . on the inside . . . where no one will see it anyways! >_> My latest costume is a dress with a 2 foot train and gathering on the top, do you have any idea how much hemming that is?
