The day was finally drawing near its close. It had certainly been eventful for the little scent child, walking up near 5 am and dragging herself from her bed and into the shower. After quickly throwing on a loose green dress and gently placing her gingerbread hair clip in she had busied herself making breakfast for her mom and then fleeing the scene, leaving warm cinnamon rolls as a nice surprise when Iz woke up.

The rest of the day was spent around her part of town, browsing different shops and stopping by her favorite bakery for a free treat from the nice baker who seemed to dote on her. Finally she had stopped at the library and picked up a few books on baking before finally making her way to a small secluded park.

Clutching her books to her petite frame Remi settled herself close to the large lake in the center of the park and sat her books to her side as she gazed at the water which reflected the fading suns rays turning it a yellow orange. Picking up the first of the stack she opened it and sighed happily. This was a great end to a great day.

The young Scent had been bored sitting at home, waiting for Eremon to finish cooking lunch for Niamh and himself and so had decided to take a long walk down towards the park. It had fast become his favorite spot to haunt because he enjoyed watching the people walk around. Not only did this help his observation skills grow, but it also allowed him to be introduced to all kinds of new ideas and things. More often then not Ailin went home from a walk wanting something new and would pursue the fact with Niamh until she would cave in and agree that Eremon could take him shopping for what he wanted. Some might say this made him spoiled, but really Ailin just thought he had enough to survive. Little extra things like gifts were just that - gifts, and how could he say no to someone buying him something anyway?

Before leaving the house, the crimson colored boy had slipped on his favorite black graphic tee and the only kind of pants he could find that fit over his satyr like legs. This meant that they had to be big and baggy, because otherwise, they fit weird and made him look grotesquely misshapen. Ailin didn't mind he had strange legs - he actually thought that when he grew into them better they might be quite sexy indeed. With no shoes that could cover his hooves he settled on walking around bare-hoofed instead. The clip-clop was always amusing to listen to anyway and sometimes Ailin would practice tapping out beats with his feet, something he knew the normal looking folks could only do with special shoes.

The walk from where he lived to the park was not long at all, but Ailin quickly found himself bored of just walking around with no one to talk to. In order to amuse himself, the Scent decided to do his little tap dance that he so enjoyed as he walked. It certainly made the time pass quicker in his mind, so he busied himself with testing out random patterns and rhythms not really noticing when concrete turned to grass so preoccupied was he.

In fact, so busy was he tapping out random rhythms on the ground beneath his feet that Ailin nearly managed to nearly trip over a young girl who happened to be sitting squarely in front of him. During his rather silly looking recovery that required his arms to spin like spin-wheels and his stance to look bizarre and off balance before he successfully got both feet back under him he took a couple steps back and was grateful for his dark red skin. This way at least the girl before him couldn't really tell that he was embarrassed aside from the cheeky grin on his face and the way he cleared his throat just a little while he tried to think up something to say to cover his lack of paying attention to where he was headed.

"So, ah. Whatcha doin' sittin' in the middle of the ground like that?"

Ailin's eyes flinched just a little when he realized how rude he had spoken and the wheels in his mind immediately began churning to find a smooth recovery. This was a girl he was talking to, after all, and being rude like that just didn't fly in his book. His uncle had made sure his tutelage in how to treat women was quite complete and usually women didn't like being more or less accused of being in the way. Or so he had been told, at least.

Immediately getting down to work she scanned some of the recipes inside, giving each one a critical once over that even the best baker would have been proud of. The current recipe was nice, but really it could be muuuch better. Pushing her hair behind her shoulder she ran a finger over each step and ingredient, picking through it bit by bit. With little care of how the original creator might feel she began changing the ingredients, switching that extra cup of sugar to brown sugar, adding cinnamon and of course the icing had to be completely revised as that was not the best for that particular dessert. Feeling pleased with herself she pulled out a pencil and began writing little notes in the sidebars, light enough it could easily be erased but dark enough she could read it later while she was baking it.

So absorbed in her thoughts she didn't hear the clip clop of hooves and hardly noticed the boy and the faint scent that followed him. She did notice, however, when her light suddenly went very dark over her book, and the light rush of wind as something moved by her hair. Glancing up she finally took in the appearance of the boy and his words. "Reading......making recipes." So obsessed with what she had been doing the little Gingerbread scent was taking awhile to finally get her thoughts together. The boy who had almost tripped over her was odd looking, the interesting mix of purple and red very appealing and his outfit only highlighting the weird mix. There was absolutely no way he was any regular human.

It had annoyed the Scent just a little when the girl took a few moments to notice him - he was one of the strangest looking people around, after all, and was therefore unaccustomed to people not noticing him. Especially since he was such a wonderfully deep red that stood out almost everywhere - and his purple mohawk only added to it, a mohawk he was rather proud of, at that. Ailin's consternation ended quickly, though, when the girl said she was making recipes. This interested him and he immediately leaned down to look into her book with the small notes scribbled here and there. It looked like a recipe book with some additions on her part, so he was a little confused when she said she was making the recipes, but he shrugged and let it pass.

Ailin enjoyed food quite a bit and plopped himself into the grass next to her without waiting for an invitation. He stretched his long legs out in front of him and moved to lean just over her shoulder as he began to read things in more detail, "What kind of recipes are you making?" His favorite things were desserts, but it was rare that Eremon actually cooked them for him. For some reason the tall man believed that children should not be spoiled with sweets, but instead eat their fill daily of things such as meats and vegetables. Fruits were the snack of the day and Niamh's favorite things to eat so the house was filled with things like apples, oranges, and bananas. When Eremon could get them he would bring home mangos and pineapple and other strange or exotic fruits for her to taste.

The favorite recipe for the house was apple crisp - a dessert with fruit. It appeased the taste buds of all within and was therefore made regularly. Perhaps the girl would have a recipe of that he could take home to Eremon if she was making or modifying recipes. The wheels began to churn in the young boy's mind and he grew excited at the idea of maybe having a gift for Niamh for once.

He really was an interesting looking creature. Remi was awed by how amazingly different he looked, a beauty that some might call ugly but Remi thought he was stunning. She looked him over slightly, and giggled slightly when she noticed his hooves. They looked so cool!

Then he decided to get close. Remi had never been a child who cared about her personal space. Celyn and Kaleb were witness to this with how many times she had tackled them in hugs, given them kisses or dragged them around. So the closeness shouldn't have bothered her and in fact normally Remi would have welcomed it and taken it as a sign she had made a new friend.....but for some reason him being close made her squirm.

She blushed and bit her lower lip. As her heartbeat sped up she breathed in and finally got an up close smell of the strange scent he was wearing. It was odd, not bad at all but it made her heartbeat go that much faster and Rem didn't know why.

Trying to ignore it she turned back to her book and his question. "Sweets. I like cooking sweets for my mom, and Neena and anyone else who stops by but I'm getting tired of the same recipes over and over. So I've decided I'm going to start making my own! I just.......don't know how." Frowning she tugged again at her lower lip and stared down at the scribbles she had made.

Ailin grew just a little stiff when the girl giggled at him, until he caught where her eyes were glancing at and gave her a mischievous grin while clicking them together. Even the young Scent had to admit - his hooves were quick to draw attention and he certainly didn't mind people recognizing what was unique about him. So long as they didn't harass him for it, that was.

The blush on her cheeks surprised him just a little and he pulled back from her, concerned he was perhaps making her nervous by his presence. He had interrupted her while she was deep in thought, after all. Perhaps he had thrown her off guard - or maybe she didn't like strangers approaching her so familiarly. The dark red boy leaned back a little as he placed his hands behind his back while trying to keep his head craned so he could sneak a peek at her notations. When she said she was making recipes for sweets, though, his reservations were quickly removed and he leaned forward once again to glance over the recipe book. "Ah, sweets are delicious! I rarely ever get them...Eremon isn't much a fan of cooking them for "young boys" such as myself. As he spoke, he flicked his head and rolled his eyes as if to say he thought Eremon thought far too much of himself and was behaving in a pompous manner by suggesting it was a bad idea for Ailin to have too many sweets.

When Remi frowned he sighed, he really didn't like seeing pretty girls sad, and gave her a bright smile not entirely understanding what the problem was, "Why not...toss ingredients together and hope for the best...?" With a firm nod, he smiled as if to say that should solve the problem right there and peered at her notes curiously, still not understanding much of anything about them. He had never really looked at a cookbook anyway - Eremon did all the cooking.

Unable to explain her strange reaction Remi merely shrugged it off and smiled her brightest, sweetest smile his way. Anyone who liked sweets were immediately good in her book, of course Remi tried her hardest not to believe bad of anyone but after the Rain Event that was a difficult thing to do. Trying her hardest not to think about it she turned back to her book and tapped her pencil against the pages. "My mama bakes every once in awhile but I love baking so much! So I bake even when I'm not supposed to." Giggling she noticed his looking and ignoring her earlier reaction scooted closer to him and slipped the book between them. "I wish it was that easy. But if you do that you can mess up the cake and make them into mush. And you can cause a fire too or just make it taste icky!"

Nodding to herself she read what she had written over again and hummed to herself. "So what kind of sweets do you like......" Pausing she realized she hadn't even asked his name, and she was pretty sure she hadn't told him hers. "I'm sorry! I umm don't really know your name, I know it's rude and stuff and I got so caught up in my recipes! My name is Remi!" Tilting her head slightly she gave another heart warming smile an batted her bright green eyes at him. "What's yours?"

A cocky little grin broached Ailin's face when the young girl at his side smiled so sweetly at him. It made him happy to think he had been able to help her feel better so quickly, or at least, that was how he had interpreted what had just occurred. His curiosity once more got the better of him as he leaned just a little closer to take another look at her cookbook as she spoke and slipped the book between them.

His cocky grin turned more to an amused one before he furrowed his eyebrows and frowned just a little at the thought you could destroy what you were baking if you weren't careful. Though he had to admit, he was interested in the fact you could start a fire by throwing random ingredients in. It was not something he would test, but it was still fascinating. Instead of voicing how little he knew, he nodded solemnly as if it all made perfect sense that you couldn't just toss things in as his cheeks turned just a hair redder then they already were.

When she asked what sweets he liked, his frown immediately flipped back to a grin before chuckling at the realization they hadn't even introduced themselves to one another. "Remi, huh? That's a pretty name. My name is Ailin." With a friendly smile he held out one hand to shake her's before adding, "And I really like sweets with caramel in them. Especially salted caramel!"

Ailin tilted his own head slightly as his purple hair spilled to one side and asked, "And what kind of sweets do you like, Remi?"

Loki Saimar
(Sorry for the wait! I completely forgot about this ^^ wink

She couldn't help giggling again with the way he couldn't seem to decide what emotion to have. Then realizing she had been the same way she giggled even more, her hand covering her mouth to keep from being too rude but her eyes looked at him happily. She loved making new friends! Though hearing him call her pretty made her blush fiercely and look down. She scolded herself slightly because he had just said her NAME was pretty not that SHE was pretty but she couldn't seem to help it. She'd been called cute plenty of times but no one had said anything about being pretty. It made her wonder briefly if Tango would think she looked pretty when she got older but she knew that thinking about him while she was talking to her new friend wasn't a good idea at all.

Finally getting her blush under some control she looked up and smiled shyly taking his hand and shaking it. "It's nice to meet you Ailin." Hearing about caramel she sighed happily. She liked caramel too but only so long as it was with something like vanilla or chocolate. "Caramel is good! I don't think I've had salted caramel before though.......does it taste much different from regular caramel?" She loved knowing new tastes she'd never tried before. She wondered if it would taste extremely salty. Mama had mentioned a few times that salty went with sweet but Remi had always had problems believing it. Then again her mama and Neena both sometimes could get sick of complete sugar desserts but she could eat them until she couldn't eat anymore.

"Oh! I love cupcakes! They can come in all kinds of shapes and flavors and different icings and fillings and all sorts of things!" She bounced up and down slightly in excitement and leaned into him, the literally sweet talk completely making her forget what personal space was and suddenly her side was pressed right along his. "I wonder what a salted caramel cupcake tastes like!"
