((This is open to all clan members, though I'd like to get a senior member in here.

And a note about Oraeryn, for anyone capable of sensing magic, Oraeryn's magic would be very easy to sense. He's got loads of it, all healing oriented.))

He really looked out of place, climbing the steps to the massive library's doors. A faded blue denim jacket covered a thin white tank top, and the blue jeans he wore were only a few shades brighter than the jacket. His sneakers matched the worn look of the rest of his clothes. So this guy in these messy clothes really didn't look like he belonged in this fancy library.

Not that this was on Oraeryn's mind at all. Looking all around him in the manner of someone not accustomed to such large buildings, he made his way to the front desk. "Excuse me. Do you have any books on theology or summoning?" He really had no idea why he was looking for anything on theology, aside from the faint desire to figure how someone attempting to summon a god could get him, who was very much not a god.

Perhaps it was fate that it had been her turn to man the front desk that day but whatever it was, Oraeryn was in luck. The Ice Queen was well-versed in the subject of magic whether it be summoning or sealing. Aya had been typing on the computer desk when her back stiffened at the telltale signs of magic in the air. She frowned as she swiveled in her chair and stared at the double doors of the library. True to their mark, the doors opened a second later to reveal a man who looked like he had seen better days. The magic almost bursting at the seems from him however, told a different story.

They were different from her own...which was both offensive and defensive based. His was purely healing and maybe a touch of scanning. Leaning back on her seat, Aya moved her sight back to the computer and continued with what she was doing, namely updating her own research. She did her best to ignore him but it was difficult, especially when his magic was figuratively poking her in the eye with its blatant presence.

She paused as she heard him ask a question. She turned her head to look at him and gave him a small smile. As a librarian, she couldn't scowl at guests who were perfectly cordial or for no reason at all other than the fact that she was Aya.

"We have a fine selection of books from both subjects," she answered and then she searched through her computer for the location of such books. She smiled a bit sheepishly at him as the list of books that came up and their locations seemed somewhat endless, "As I said, the library has hundreds of books on the subjects you wish to research. If you would give me a topic such as the kind of god or religion you wish to read about, I can give you a more detailed search. It is the same for the summoning books."

He hesitated a moment, something telling him this woman was dangerous. But that polite tone and little smile reassured him a little. Though as she asked him what he was looking for, he flushed in embarrassment. "I'm not exactly sure. I..." he hesitated, not exactly sure how to explain his search. "It's um. Kind of strange, but my parents named me after some old god, Oraeryn. I guess if you have anything about that one."

And hopefully she wouldn't pick up on the lie. Sure, his name was Oraeryn, and those...mages...had always addressed the god on the mural with that name. Jamming his hands in his pockets in an attempt to keep from fidgeting, he gave her a small, shy smile.

She raised both brows to show that she was listening before the corner of her lips curved up in to a small amused smile. She didn't let him know that she knew he was lying to her but she didn't call him out on it. Everyone had their secrets after all. Aya nodded at him and turned back to her computer, typing up the name 'Oraeryn'. Once she pressed enter, an image on the computer appeared...one of a cartoon of Ilia removing and reading a book from a bookshelf and then putting it back again only to select another book. It was played in a loop and was meant to entertain the ones on the front desk. Aya had been the mastermind for programming that on the desk computer although it was a complete secret...unless they asked Ilia about it.

"The search will take only a few moments," Aya said to him and glanced back at the computer to see if it was still searching. The picture of Ilia pulling out book after book was still playing.

"You have a nice name...Oraeryn," she said as she kept her eyes on the computer, "names are powerful things and since you gave me yours, it would only be prudent to give you mine. My name is Aya. It is a pleasure to meet you."

She glanced at him and gave him a nod before blinking at the search. There were only three books about the ancient god.

"Well...I have three books for you but one of them is an ancient tome and hasn't been duplicated nor translated yet. The other two are in section five of the library," she said as she printed out the books to him and gave him the slip of paper containing the reference numbers and a map of the library itself, "If you need the tome, come back here and tell me. I can't let you touch it but I can look through it for you."

Mage. She was a mage. He managed to keep from shuddering, though now he felt distinctly uncomfortable around her. The only thing keeping him from fleeing the library this instant was how polite and helpful she was being. "Um. Thank you, Aya." He reached out hesitantly for the slip of paper, his hand shaking as it brushed against hers. As nice as she was, she was scaring the hell outta him now.

Clutching the piece of paper in one hand, he bowed and backed off a few paces, then darted off down the rows of bookshelves. It wasn't just that she was a mage, it was the sense that she was a powerful one. A hell of a lot more powerful than the ones he'd 'known'. And that was why he was frankly terrified. Leaning back against a bookshelf, he pressed his hand over his pounding heart, and took a few deep breaths.

He wasn't even close to the right section of the library, but at the moment, Oraeryn didn't care. Research could wait until after it stopped feeling like his heart was going to leap out of his chest.

Aya smirked at the man's retreating form. That was the first time she had scared someone off without really wanting to. She refrained from cackling out right even though she knew that it would scare the man even more. Instead, she cleared her throat and turned back to her computer, sending out a signal to Guyy's PAD that she had found someone interesting. Looking around, she found that no one else was in the library or were too busy with their reading to really pay attention to what she was doing.

With a hidden smile, Aya accessed the cameras around the library and searched for that terribly frightened healer. She found him a few moments later...with Caine in the background. She almost rolled her eyes. Of course the Sidhe Lord would find him interesting as well. Grumbling under her breath, she stared at their lips, trying to read what they were saying.

"You're a long ways away from where you want to be son," Caine said to the healer as he browsed through a book. He was standing in front of one of the many bookshelves and flipping page after page of an encyclopedia. He didn't even apologize for eavedropping. "It's on the other side of the library...so you will have to pass by Lady Aya again."

At that, Caine lifted his head up and grinned at the young man. Aya wasn't the only one who liked to screw with people's heads.

"The Lady Aya won't harm you," he nodded at the man, "Can't say I blame you for being frightened of her though. A great deal of people are."

He let out a strangled squeal as Caine spoke up suddenly. He hadn't even noticed the man at all. His fingers dug into his jacket, his hand still pressed to the spot over his heart. Now he really felt like his heart was going to go flying out of his chest. "It's...it's not nice to scare people like that." He protested.

And now what the man was saying was sinking in. "She's..." He closed his silver eyes and shuddered. "So much magic." He was getting the same vibes from Caine too. He scooted a pace away from the taller man, trying to do so without drawing attention to the movement.

"Apologies for startling you then." Caine said in reply. It was probably one of the most insincere apologies a person could ever hear.

"Hmn...too true," Caine spoke again in much the same manner as if he was commenting about the condition of the weather, "She does have quite an abundance of magic. So much that her own body can't handle it sometimes. Though that has never stopped her from achieving what ordinary mortals could."

The Sidhe Lord smirked as he flipped to another page, hardly reading the contents of the book he was cradling. He glanced at the frightened boy, barely able to withhold his amusement at such blatant display of fear.

"If you truly want to know the summoning ritual done on you, you should ask for that ancient tome. You'll have a lot more luck with it," Caine said, winking at the young man. How he learned that Oraeryn was some product of a summoning ritual? Well one can't live with magic without recognizing every part of it. The boy reeked of summoning magic. He nodded and then replaced the book back on the shelf before walking away from Oraeryn...only to disappear in to the shadows of the bookshelves.

On the front desk, Aya had to roll her eyes at Caine's penchant for drama.

He glanced sideways at Caine, easily picking up on the insincere tones. His commentary about Aya made him shudder again, taking another step away from the man.

Though what came out of the man's mouth next really startled Oraeryn. "How do you know about that?!" He hissed in a low tone...then just gaped at the man's rapidly disappearing form. Now, despite the fear, his curiousity was really burning. How had Caine known? And what was in that ancient tome?

Was it worth approaching Aya again?

He crept to the end of the bookshelf, as if he was trying to sneak around, then peeked around the edge of the shelf, staring wide eyed at the front desk. She was still there.

Aya withheld a smirk as she watched Oraeryn peer out at her. The hidden camera around the library was giving her a perfect view of him. She crossed her arms and leaned back on her seat before running a hand through her long black hair. He was like a rabbit, she decided. Frightened and peering out of its hole to see if there were predators about. Too bad for Oraeryn. The Shinigami Library was home to predators. With a hidden chuckle, the Ice Queen turned her head, smiling at another library visitor.

"Sorry to bother you miss but do you know where I can find books on the world wars?"

"That would be in the east side of the library ma'am. May I know which perspective you are looking for so that I may run a search on the computer?"

"Barton Town's if you would."

Aya nodded politely and searched for books related to the topic on the computer. A while later, she had printed out a similar paper for the lady. She handed it and the girl smiled a thank you before heading off to the east side of the library. Aya kept her eyes on the girl's back before turning her head towards where Oraeryn was peeking out at her. She smiled at him...or rather smirked but since this was Aya, a smirk may as well be a smile.

He stayed where he was while Aya spoke with the other visitor. He could still sense the magic that she seemed to be bursting with, but she was so polite and nice. And that other guy had disappeared entirely, from both sight and sense.

Alright.

Finally stepping out from the shelves, he froze mid-step as she smirked at him. The look on Oraeryn's face was akin to that infamous, wide-eyed, 'deer in the headlights' look. She was really scaring him. But. He'd already made up his mind to see that tome. So. He resumed walking, trying not to look like he was about to turn and flee.

Stopping at the desk, he paused, fumbling for what to say. "Um. I...ah. I'd like to see that tome you ...you were talking about earlier." If the poor guy could've sensed all the other magic users in the library, he probably would have had a heart attack right there.

Not that this would help his situation at all.

"Yes of course," Aya said and tipped her head to the side as she stared at him, as if sizing him up before turning around in her seat and waving her hand at the shadows. From there, Caine stepped out with a smirk. He bowed low to his waist to both his lady and Oraeryn before taking up Aya's position on the front desk. He sneaked a kiss on Aya's temple just as she was exiting the desk. She glared at him and would have frozen his arm if he wasn't already talking to another visitor.

"How can I help you beautiful?"

Aya rolled her eyes at the blushing girl before signaling to Oraeryn to follow her.

"As I said before due to library policy, I can't allow you to touch the tome. I can however, let you see it so long as I am the one turning the page," she said as she led the way to the back. She stopped in front of a door and slipped her ID. There was a click before the door unlocked and she went inside. She waited for Oraeryn to enter before she closed the door behind him.

Inside the room were numerous old tomes. Some were in glass cases while others were on tables, ready to be copied and translated. She walked past three tables before she stopped in front of one particular tome.

"This is the one you want," she said and opened the old book, "What about Oraeryn would you like to know about?"

Watching Caine reappear from the shadows, Oraeryn's eyes widened as he took a step back, fighting the urge to bolt for the door. Aya's beckoning caught his attention, and he gladly followed her away from the taller man.

Somehow, he felt ever so slightly less threatened by Aya. Maybe because she had been so polite. Or maybe because she hadn't popped out or, or into, the shadows right in front of him. He glanced over his shoulder at Caine, still following Aya. No doubt, there was something off about that man.

The door closing behind them really should have made him even more nervous, but at this point, Oraeryn's nerves had gotten enough, and mercifully, he was entirely distracted by all the books. He followed Aya past the tables, stuffing his hands in his jeans' pocket just to keep himself from reaching out and touching the books.

Looking at the book she indicated, he couldn't help but shudder at seeing his name scrawled on the cover in intricate handwriting. It was really creepy, to know there was some higher being with the same name as him; worse, to know that he had been mistaken for that being.

"I...I saw a mural once, of him." He'd been chained to it, actually, and had only gotten a few glimpses of it during his escape, but there was no way he was blurting that out to a stranger. "It was really worn and messed up, and...I was wondering if there were any illustrations of him, first." That damn mural hadn't been worn at all. But Oraeryn had to know, were the mages completely insane, or did he really look exactly like the god's human form, right down to the odd silver color of his eyes.

He hadn't really stopped to consider what Aya's reaction might be.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 09, 2010 9:04 pm

"Illustrations eh?" Aya said and started to carefully flip through the book until she found some messy drawings of the god. She arranged the book, letting Oraeryn see the pictures before slowly flipping it page after page. There were some writings and such but she didn't pay them any attention. Her gaze kept lingering on the details of the illustrations and Oraeryn's face. The god and Oraeryn, she thought, looked incredibly alike. In fact, the same name and the man's gentle but overflowing aura should have been a dead giveaway to her. She'd needed proof though because unlike Caine, even if she did grow up in the same environment as him, she could not completely sense someone's magic.

"I can't tell you much about this one since it hasn't been translated yet," she began as she flipped through the pages again, stopping at an incredibly detailed mural of the god, "And unfortunately, this one won't be translated until after a month or two when the translators have finished with the other books."

Her eyes slowly slid from the book in order to stare at him. She refrained from smirking and simply gave him an amused twitch of her lips.

"Mister Oraeryn...while I am certain that you want to know about the god you are named after, I think the mystery surrounding you holds more than that. Or is the fact that the god Oraeryn looks so much like you simply a mere coincidence?"

She tilted her head to the side and eyed the boy critically and decided that being blunt was the best way to deal with this situation.

"You are overflowing with healing magic and there is a tinge of aftertaste...like a summoning ritual. Was that what happened?" she smiled and her voice gentled, "I would press you for the answers but since you're obviously trying to hide them, I won't. Just please remember that I am trying to assist you and I cannot do the best that I can if I do not know the exact reason as to why you are here."

Those bright silver eyes got wider and wider as Aya flipped through the book. Every illustration, every single one, looked just like him. Then she flipped the page, and he saw the mural. That damn mural. He took a step back, feeling like he was going to be ill. Finally yanking his hands out of his pockets, he wrapped them around his stomach and shut his eyes, slowly swaying back and forth. It looked like Oraeryn was about to pass out.

Aya's voice got his attention, and he opened his eyes and looked up at her. She wanted to help? She was a mage, her magic was obvious, yet her mannerism made him want to trust her. He hesitated, staring into her eyes for a few long moments. "...they summoned me. But I'm not a god." He held his hands out and stared at them. "They summoned me and bound me to this body." He glanced up at her quickly, then blurted out loudly, "I'm not a god! I'm not!"

He continued in a quieter voice. "I'm not. I don't understand how they summoned me, they wanted a god. I'm just...I'm just Oraeryn. I'd never even heard of a god with the same name until they summoned me." He gave Aya a pleading look, hoping he hadn't just doomed himself.
