The summer nights brought warmer weather that carried on into the night. The heat dried up things faster, made wildfires more probable, and even sped up the decaying process of old remains. A nocturnal mare was drawn out from her dingy cave, feeling the humidity in the air. Given the hot weather and the humidity, she surmised that it would be easier to scavenge dead bodies in this climate.
Making sure to sufficiently cover the entrance to her home to prevent any other scavengers from invading her home and taking what was hers, she decided to wander off to find something to nourish her thin body. Slinking around like a stealthy fox, her amber eyes glanced around her surroundings for anything interesting. She raised her nose to the air to sniff for anything alluring scents that might lead her to a prized decaying carcass, but her scavenging seemed fruitless.

The heat is what had drawn this dark character out of his own secret place. It would get so hard to stay inside in the heat because it would press down on him, make him sweat, make him feel nauseous even. No, he preferred the cold if he had the choice, buuut, weather was not something to be chosen. So, the dark stallion unfolded his legs, stood up and quickly, but silently, left his den, making sure to keep the obscuring branches in just the right places. Once out, his blue eyes scanned the area, and once he was sure nothing had spotted him, he set off to wander.
Not one for words, or much for conversation, he usually didn't think to himself much, but this heat was proving to be a downright nuisance, and so he found himself mentally muttering about it, before something caught his attention. He froze, holding his breath and waited until the other thing moved once more. And with just the slightest twitch as a 'go', he was onto that poor rodent before it knew what was happening. CRUNCH! ...and it practically disappeared. Skull crushed, the stallion quickly ducked his head and threw it up just to send it straight into his throat. Such a tiny thing, barely a snack, was not going to satiate his sudden hunger. No, he would find himself something bigger to eat...
Lowering his head, he began to creep along quietly, all senses on high alert. He knew that if the mouse had been running, there must have been a reason, and that reason was usually a tasty one. He hoped it was a fox... maybe a coyote even... mmmm...
