I'm seeing a bunch of people on Facebook join groups and what not opposing the Islamic community center that's close to Ground Zero. It's driving me a bit nuts. People being misled about what is it and where it is is only one thing. But if you honestly think anything but a memorial is going to to be put on Ground Zero, you're just not thinking. From the time I heard about the "mosque" I assumed it was going to be like across the street. Even if it was an actual mosque near Ground Zero, why do people have to freak about and say "You can practice your religion, just not here." How is that different from saying "You can practice your religion, just not in this country"? I may be exaggerating but you get the idea. And while browsing Cracked.com I found this. It's a nice read.

Yeah. The thing is, two (three? Not sure precisely how far) blocks isn't that close in NYC. It's not like there won't be stuff in between. If that is too close, how far is far enough away?
But yeah, some of the stuff I've seen people say has made it seem like they think it's going to be a legitimate Muslim extremesist groupy hang-out built directly upon the rubble from 9/11 gonk

Glenn Beck shouldn't be allowed at ground zero. It's offensive to the families of survivors, who he once said were annoyingly weepy.
Same logic applies!
Edit: And, Shiori, you're not exaggerating. All over your country people are protesting against mosques.

As long as it's not directly on Ground Zero, I don't see the problem. Honestly, I don't think you're exaggerating at all. Where do the people who think it's insensitive to build it nearby draw the line? A few blocks away, that part of the city, all of the city, all of the country... it's all the same, really.
That article makes some really good points; and so do some of the comments.

They could put it across the street and I wouldn't care, so long as it's not (as previously said) right on top of the actual plot where the towers were, which just isn't going to happen.
A mosque/community center does not equal a terrorist group. If they're going to say the mosque can't be there, then they better be chasing the Christian churches/synagogues/etc away, too. Never know when all the other religions might turn extremist.

Fear mongering wouldn't work if there wasn't a group of dumbasses who are capable of believing it. It's the true Republican platform.
And unless they were turning the building itself into a nuke grade explosive, there wouldn't be any point for a terrorist center there. Especially not where it would garner a ******** of attention.

Pre-judging, pre-judging, pre-judging... It's all around us. Isn't it wonderful? 4laugh /sarcasm]
Besides, who needs a public building to plan malevolent actions/activity, whoever it is? stressed

I don't see the point in crying over it, though, media swings both ways with Liberal and Conservative. Either way, it's another thing the media does to turn the attention of the people away from important things at hand. Like, our constitutional rights being taken away. New gun laws saying I can't have my gun. Yea, I have much more things to worry about than a Mosque. History 101, read up on Jerusalem and it's constant reform from Christian/Hebrew/Muslim/Jewish crap. Putting a mosque somewhere in New York isn't that special, get off the muslim's nuts and move on. That's the kind of hate mongering our media allows and get leaked so other countries send their America hate even higher. Go rich people making money off this s**t.

Was it an actual person or an actor (I know Jon Stewart has a few)? I know there's this one female character that tends to act as the stereotypical opposite. o3o I think it was on the Colbert Report the other day where they showed this video clip of a protest in NYC and there's this Arabic looking guy trying to get through and people start fighting with him and saying he's Muslim . . . Until he says that he's a construction worker trying to get to the other side of the mob because he's working on the construction for the 9/11 memorial. :/
