Rarely did Ary get requests like the one she received only a few days ago after sending out her usual class notices. Damon had personally walked into the facility and asked her to pair Ilyrosa and Nina together for a class. As strange as it was, and after Ily’s previous class, she felt there wasn’t too much harm in letting such an event occur, right? It was always easier and better for learning to have two beginners fight it out against one another as they were more likely to try random things than she did. Not to mention she got to relax and not deal with two very anger-oriented children instead of bandaging them or herself up.
Speaking of the devil, her wrathful student Ilyrosa just happened to walk in halfway through her musing. “Hello again. Glad to see that injury from last time didn’t scar. However, before we begin, we have to wait for one more student to arrive,” Ary explained, continuing to spar with her imaginary enemies, sword arcing and loping off yet another person’s head. To Ily, it was rather cool to watch her teacher seemingly work magic on the sword and dance gracefully around the room. It looked more like her teacher would be beastly on a battlefield than ever before in the spawn’s eyes. In fact, the female only seemed partly restrained in her attacks unlike their last class where she seemed to strain to match her level of skill and strength. A strange change, that was for sure.

Nina had begun to get used to the trips back to the facility, as much as she absolutely hated the place. It was easy to slip back into the memories she had growing up here, of being abandoned while still so young, but if she could just keep one thought in her mind, it didn't seem quite so bad: This is just for today, not any longer than that. It did little to soothe the mind, but it helped a little, and even a little was enough to keep her from just turning around and heading back home. Besides, other than the technicians, most of the other individuals that worked here weren't half bad.
She gave little indication of hearing Ephron as he wished her a good day, preferring to keep to her silence. She didn't want the conversation to turn into an argument, considering her tenseness with the situation, so gave a slight nod instead. At least it was a melee class she was attending today, which was promising. She hated feeling useless in a pinch, and although her fury could probably talk her through situations that required force, she would much rather have the intellect to go along with it. Blind rage oftentimes didn't lead to anything good, after all.
As she entered the room, past the familiar corridors, she flinched once her eyes caught sight of a familiar friend, "Rosa?" She hadn't actually been expecting the class to be anything other than one-on-one with the teacher. Then again, now that she thought about it, Ephron didn't really tell her anything about the circumstances. Did he know about this? Had he planned it? At this point, it didn't really matter, and the grin on her face behind her scarf displayed this.
Ahh, but this wasn't exactly the right time to catch up with her friend, even though she was ecstatic to see Ilyrosa doing so well since the last time they were together. She entered further into the room, cautiously once an idea hit her mind as she watched the almost dance-like steps Ary used with her blade, "I'm in the right classroom, correct?" She didn't want to get her hopes up, in the off-chance she wandered into the wrong room.

“Nina? You mean we’re in a class together?” Ily asked Ary, watching the teacher nod and slow the arcing blade to a stop. It was made from a really pretty metal, shimmering lightly as it moved through the air and back into the leathery sheath it had originated from. Something told the girl that the weapon had seen many battles and tasted the blood of an army as Ary slain all in her path. A dangerously beautiful instrument of war... It was sad how technology had advanced far past its time and age.
“Yes. I got a request to put you two together and I’m happy to do so as I end up with one less class I have to do. I’ll let you two debate as to what you want to practice and or learn. Since you, Nina, haven’t had me before it’s only fair to tell you that yes, this is a melee class and yes I’m your teacher so deal with it. As for a name, you can call me Ary if you so wish,” Ary explained, looking curiously at the pre-teen’s scarf. As strange of an accessory it just so happened to be, the female made no outward comments on it as if she understood to a degree...
“I’m sooooo glad t’ see you here! I was expecting to be paired up with some other kid here or something. Usually this is a one-on-one class but I guess someone wanted us to be together...” Ily explained, sounding thoughtful as to who that might be only to grin moments later. “But you’re here! Which is awesome beyond awesome,” she continued before lowering her voice to a whisper. “Although the teacher is kind of a b***h-“
“I heard that and yes, I’m a bit of a b***h and you know what? I don’t give a ******** cause I have to teach you like it or not so stop jabbering about how you’ve missed each other and figure things out. We don’t have all day,” Ary called out irritably from the rack of weapons that was now fully displayed as the doors were finally opened enough for others to see inside. Swords of all sizes, shapes, and designs lay cleaned and ready for use with each looking as if it had gone through a hundred battles. It was definitely an amazing sight for anyone whether or not they knew of their worth.

Truth be told, Nina was glad that she wasn't the only one that had been left in the dark about sharing a class together. Granted, she also didn't know she'd be having a partner at all, but she wasn't about to complain about anything. Seems this day was turning out a hundred times better than she would have expected it to, far more than she was anticipating at all!
But now was not the time to dawdle; as much as she wanted to catch up with Ily, she figured she'd have plenty of time to do so as they practiced the fundamentals of the class. She nodded to Ary, a stand-in for a handshake, "I-It's nice to meet you, Ary." She was a little tense with the introduction, but she hadn't seemed to be very trusting of strangers as of late; too many bad run-ins in too short of time. True, she was a teacher for the facility, but her thoughts couldn't shake the feeling completely. Best to shove it to the back of the mind, she told herself.
Following Ary's eyes, she twitched her hand to the scarf around her neck. Blinking, she asked, "Would it be better for me to take this off for now?" Though... learning to fight with one on wouldn't be too bad of an idea, but would it be smart to start with it on? She didn't mind taking it off; as long as someone she knew was here, she didn't feel so awkward with her emotions being displayed so 'openly,' even if most of them were still hidden behind her eyes.
A weapon... that would be difficult to choose. Turning to the display, she stepped to stand next to Ilyrosa so the two of them could talk as they decided. The grin, she noticed that she couldn't wipe it from her face. "I thought this class was usually one-on-one!" she replied in a low voice, trying to not irritate the teacher with the chatter. She winked, nudging her friend lightly, "Best partner I could ask for, too!" She covered her own mouth at Ilyrosa's comment on Ary's personality, trying to stifle a surprised giggle but relieved when Ary hadn't gotten too angry for overhearing the bold statement.
Such a collection of weaponry, Nina found herself staring in wide-eyed wonder. Couldn't she learn about them all? She shook her head once she realized that her eyes weren't blinking and asked, "First things first -- short range or long range?" That might narrow it down a bit, though she was leaning toward the spear a bit.

"Wear the scarf or not, I care not. You'll figure out soon enough what you want to do," Ary replied to seriously the only question she was given from the revenge spawn, Nina. Then again, the girl didn't seem like much of a talker. No wonder Ilyrosa and Nina got along, one never shut up and the other was quiet enough for the both of them. Not to mention that they both tended towards violent actions just one was... a little more quick to use her fists.
Or so Ary thought anyways.
Ily, unlike Nina, had been drawn to the very image of the dozens of swords of different shapes and sizes. They were like snowflakes, each and every single one different from the others and yet all the same at the same time. "Hm... Short range. Waiting and aiming makes me irritable." No child of patience was she, preferring to NOT deal with such things like sitting in one place and aiming at a target far away. It was far easier to just charge them and hack 'em to pieces, right?
Well it was in her mind anyways.

With a stiff nod, Nina proceeded to unwrap the scarf from around her neck. She knew that, at least for now, the article of clothing would only work against her in her learning process, becoming more of a handicap in the way it could so easily catch on everything. With practice, she probably could get the hang of battle with the scarf still in tow, but she was still merely a beginner with weaponry. Wrapping it around itself, she tossed it into a far corner so that nobody would find it in the way.
She snorted in a reactionary snicker to Ilyrosa's consensus as to why she wanted to use short-range weaponry, mostly because it made all that much more sense. With a semi-nervous flinch, her eyes trailed down to her own talons, a light frown flashing across her expression. Her thoughts came quickly, as if she were trying to shorten the amount of pause in her voice, though parallel to thinking under pressure. Short range... she was more used to short range than long range, which should also pitch Nina in a bit of a comfort zone as well. However, she was prone to wanting to use her hands when she got frustrated, which could be devastating. So far, she had the head to not use the talons on anyone but herself, but she was immune to her own poisons, and she hadn't the knowledge of what they may do to anyone else. If at all possible, she glanced back up to the display, I should pick something with more of a reach, something that would keep me from accidentally getting carried away.
So, that was one decision made, but it left a lot of other options open. Pursing her lips, she tackled the outskirts of her mind. If she wanted to get as far away from something as similar to her claws, why not something blunt? Not only that, but it would lessen the amount of damage done if she did get carried away, right? The last thing she wanted to do right now was to let that happen, and it didn't help that she was so strong for her age and stature. This is going to be hard... she concluded, realizing that she was in trouble of holding back too much in an instructional course, or letting herself lose control.
In an attempt to shake herself free of her thoughts, she reached out for the first blunt object that caught her eye at the display: a lightweight stick, a little longer than two rulers glued together may be, identified as a yantok. There were two of them, one for each hand, but Nina only grabbed the singular one within the hand without claws, pulling her other hand nearly behind herself. Tapping it a little at the air in front of her, she was able to deduce that it was made of rather strong material. "I think I'll use this," she stated, taking a few steps away from the other weapons, turning to smile as Ilyrosa made her choice.
Blinking as another thought entered her mind, she turned to look to Ary, puzzled, "Are we both going to be fighting you, or..?" She stiffened, Or am I going to have to fight Rosa?

A dark smirk crossed Ary’s face. You’ll be fighting each other. Ily, again, careful with your tail and Nina, careful with your claws. I’m not dragging either of you down to the hospital wing because you were careless and hurt yourselves or each other. This is especially for you, Ily, since I don’t want a repeat of last time you had my class,” she said warningly, looking at the wrath spawn pointedly. “Also, if things get out of control I do have ways of separating you two in a moment’s notice. I’d hate for things to come to that but somehow, I have a feeling it might just because of your DNA and some other… things,” she added, watching Ily make her way over to the weapons rack to look through the many magnificent swords that hung there.
“If you want one of those, grab that wooden one next to your left hand. No, the other-yeah. Should work so tell me if it’s a little too heavy for you or something,” Ary continued, grabbing the other half to Nina’s weapon, a copy of it for herself, and another training sword meant for someone like herself and not younger students more capable for breaking them and unaware of their strength. “Nina, what you have is similar in use as dual wielding a short sword and a knife, or what a rogue would use in video games. Ily, yours is a sword. End of story. Ain’t nothing special or fancy about it yet. Rules; follow my lead, ask smart questions, avoid blows to the face, and control your strength. I only have one of these for practice at the moment since my last student broke half of them,” Ary continued, glaring at each of her students. “Understood?”
“Wait… We’re going to… FIGHT each other? No, I don’t-,” Ary sighed, interrupting Ily. “If you do as I say, you’ll both end up bruised but essentially fine. You lose your temper that may not end up being so, so Ily you better contain that damned temper and keep your ******** concentration on what I say and not how irritating or boring my damned class is. Got it? Good,” the woman snapped, pointing the wooden sword at the spawn. Ily sighed and nodded, glancing at Nina. She didn’t want to hurt her friend, but they both had claws now and some dangerous-looking wooden weapon but there was a few things Nina didn’t have that she did; incredible speed, a tail, and blind fury that wasn’t easy to emerge from but easy to induce. “So… What’s first?” she asked, knowing generally what was going to happen.
“The basics of defending. Duh. A good offense is only as good as your defense. Yes it’s lame, yes it sucks, but if it keeps you alive you have to do it. End of the ******** story.”

The tenseness only lessened in an interim of a few seconds, in the hopes that Arytiss would say that they didn't have to fight each other. This hope was dashed before it had fully manifested, inciting Nina into worry once more. Her mind wandered, eyes falling to the yantok in her hand as she tried to reassure herself that she could forgo getting too wrapped up in the fight. Too much had happened too recently, and... well, the wandering mind was probably not helping matters. She didn't want to go through this on auto-pilot, but didn't want to panic either.
She snorted to herself, grabbing onto a thought that had previously escaped her. Pushing back related memories, she firmly stated to herself, What, do you really think you could hurt Rosa? She's the strongest person you've ever met, and anything you can do, she'll just bounce right back. Seems that, at the moment, Nina was her own worst foe. A smile managed to make it's way across her face, despite it being half-feigned. Instead of dwelling on the prospect, she replied with a short twitch of her wrist with the lightweight pole, "Rogue, huh? Sounds like fun."
It didn't seem to grace her mind, the possibility of herself getting injured. It wasn't confidence in her own abilities that triggered this, but rather, she didn't much care if she got injured at all. After all, it would only be the result of an accident, or carelessness on her own part, but never on purpose.
Yeah, that should take away the anxiety.
It also seemed to assuage her worries when Ary had explained that defense would be coming first. After all, it would ultimately lessen the amount of damage either one of them would take, and in all honesty, was probably something the both of them needed to know more than actually fighting. Rage took care of thought processes anyway. Passing the smile to Ily, Nina reassured her friend, "Don't worry, it'll be fine! We can't be taken out that easily, right?" Okay, now would be about the time confidence was outweighing reason. No matter, if it made her function better, right?
Awkwardly testing out a stance she had seen in the movies, Nina stated, "I'm ready." I think...

Ily giggled and nodded, a fiercely determined smile flashing onto her face. She had to make sure she didn’t hurt Nina and despite it sounding easy enough when spoken, the actual thing was many times more difficult to accomplish. With so many things she had to keep a hold on, mainly her temper and instincts, the wrath spawn nearly missed what Ary had to say about how to hold their weapons properly. As Ary demonstrated the various defensive poses for a sword, the girl quickly copied them with relatively minimal mistakes.
“There. Go ahead and work on memorizing those, Ily. If you want, try angling your sword a little differently since not all attacks are aimed at those specific spots. Nobody is ever one hundred percent predictable in what they’re going to do. Now, Nina, since you have two objects your hold on it is a little different...” Ary explained, directing her attention to her other student as she picked up her copy of the weapon. Slowly, she demonstrated the various ways of holding the yantok and directing them for the best defensive angles. Upon seeing Nina essentially had them, the white-haired woman stepped back to examine Ily’s work.
“Good, but you’re leaving your left side completely open when you do that. Try-Yeah, do that a few more times and don’t give me that damned look. Be glad I’m teaching you anything useful.” Ily sighed, dropping her agitated glare to slowly go through the defensive motions once more. Yes, it would help her in the future but by the seven hells it was boring and far too repetitive. Still, losing her temper would just delay the class longer and make it even more boring.
