"Y'see tha'? I thin'a saw a shooting star!" Iridian giggled, the blue glow of his right eye strikingly visible in the enveloping darkness. He rolled backward, almost falling on his back if it wasn't for the excited wiggling of his stubby tail. Otomeza held her hand out to catch him if he had fallen, but the gesture fell, unneeded.
The trio had gone to the camping areas of the park solely because there was word that they may be able to see a meteor shower tonight. This particular area had a few nice hills scattering the ground, giving them more of a sense that they could touch the sky while simultaneously giving Iridian something to do if he got bored again. Hopefully he didn't tumble head-first into the ground again, trying to run downhill...
Well, at least Otomeza was pretty sure the newscast had said tonight... she had forgotten to make note of it when she had first heard it. Not that it would really hurt if they were out an extra day; the warmth of the summer sun had gotten Cheyenne annoyed as of late, but the clear night's skies almost made the ordeals worth it. The albino sat with his knees to his chest, arms draped over them as his chin rested on top. He seemed so comfortable now, so serene, it was a complete change from the anger he had been expressing earlier that day, his blanket wrapped tightly around himself to hide his sensitive eyes and skin from the sunlight that shoved it's way through the thick curtains.
"See any meteors yet?" the draconic woman asked the two of them. Iridian seemed to be ignoring the question as he stood, arms outstretched as he spun around with his head to the sky -- it looked so weird that way! Cheyenne shook his head in response, but his grin told of his contentment, whether they showed up or not.

Damien had really gone out of his way this time. After Fifth had discovered and cauterized a scar that he hadn't hid well enough, he had more or less not stopped walking for a whole day. He wasn't out of the city, of course, but he was farther away than he ever had been before. He munched hungrily on a taco he'd stole as he wandered through the mostly-deserted park, examining his new surroundings. Where he lived didn't really have many green areas, so it was very odd for him to see so many trees. He honestly didn't know how he felt about it. On the one hand, it was very comforting, but it was also so open. He missed his alleyways and abandoned buildings.
And then suddenly, there was an influx of people. As Damien reached the camping areas, he was very surprised by the sudden amount of folks standing around by the hills, looking towards the sky. Damien frowned slightly in confusion, and looked up at the sparsely-starred sky a few times. What were they supposed to be seeing? Sure, there were a few more stars than normal, but was that really worth all that trouble?
He awkwardly made his way up to the top of a hill with much evading and apologizing, wondering if he could see better from up there. When that didn't work, he glanced to his right and saw a family of three, one mother and two small, odd-looking children. By now, Damien had begun to equate 'odd-looking' with 'Facility', and so was marginally less self-conscious as he approached the woman. "Um... E-Excuse me..." he said softly, hands clasped behind his back. "Uh, what is going on, exactly? Why are so many people watching the sky?"

Otomeza began to feel a sense of relief as more people began milling around, much more than one usually saw in the park at night. It was a sure sign that she heard the newscast correctly earlier that week, that this was actually the correct day. True, if tomorrow was just as nice as it was today, they'd probably be out again, but at least the draconic woman didn't have to feel so guilty about making the twins sit here if the event wasn't happening tonight.
Cheyenne, on the other hand, wasn't so sure he liked being around so many people at once, so was pulling his knees closer to his chest. Maybe if he just ignored everyone else, they wouldn't bother the three of them. After all, he was getting tired of some of the strange looks they were receiving. His tail wrapped tightly around his body like a rattlesnake, the barbed tip standing on end as he saw someone approach from the darkness. He relaxed slightly once his eyes flicked over Damien's features; someone from the facility wasn't about to give them grief, right?
Seems both the twins noticed the boy approaching before Otomeza had any clue, but Iridian was still attempting to get his vision to stop spinning as much as his body was doing just moments before when Damien had asked his question. The woman glanced over, a little confused as to why someone was asking her a question like that, but then smiled. "Word is that there's going to be a meteor shower tonight. In an open area like this, it's the best place to see something like that," she explained, before adding after a momentary pause, "Would you like to join us?"
"'M 'Ridian!" the more colorful of the twins was finally able to spit out, bouncing a little on unsteady legs. Cheyenne rolled his eyes at his brother's reaction; he always had to pounce on a new acquaintance...

Damien nodded in sudden understanding when the draconian woman explained the meteor shower. He dimly recalled one of the Fours speaking to someone about it, back when he was at home. Was that today? If so many people were here, it must be true. Suddenly, Damien wasn't so upset with how far he was from home; he'd lucked upon a sight that likely wouldn't happen again for a long time. Instinctively, he brought up his goggles and looked towards the sky, watching for any streaks of light.
He hadn't expected the woman to ask him to stay with them, but couldn't really refuse the request, bringing his gaze back down and nodded solemnly. "I would. Thanks." That over with, he resumed his watching. He really didn't know how interactive star-gazing with people was, but at least he had someone to stand with.
Focus on the stars above, Damien was completely surprised by Iridian's sudden greeting. He jumped slightly, wings fluffing indignantly as he stared at the child. He was certainly strange enough in appearance to be Facility. After an awkward pause, Damien half-bared his teeth in a pitiful attempt at a smile. "Um, I'm Damien. ...hi."

Iridian's grin only got wider as Damien had returned introductions, always eternally happy with the attention. His finned tail wagged slightly as he waved a 'hello' back before his good eye caught sight of the older boy's fluttering headwings. Pointing up at them, he gaped, "Oooh, those so cool!" He hadn't encountered many other spawn with wings yet, but he certainly wasn't expecting to see a pair of them growing from another's head! He couldn't help but notice the pretty gold coloring of the feathers as well, and he had to consciously hold his hand back from trying to reach up to grab at them.
Obviously more interested in possible friendship than the reason he was out in the park in the first place, Iridian hadn't so much as even looked up into the sky since Damien had spoken to them. Instead, he carried on, "You like stars?" It wasn't until it looked like he was about to ask another question did Cheyenne yank at his brother's pant leg, causing Iridian to stumble in his wording and introduce, "This's Cheyenne; he's my brovver." He pointed at the pale form huddled on the ground, glancing down in time to catch sight of the glaring red eyes beneath the toddler's bangs.
Turning to face him, Iridian crouched down to Cheyenne's eye level, giving him a questioning look. The younger twin hissed a quiet, "Stoppit, he's trying to watch the stars. You're going to scare 'im away." He tried to keep his voice level and low, so that neither Otomeza nor Damien could hear that he was upset. He didn't know if it worked, so once he was done speaking, he buried his mouth behind his folded arms on his knees.
Iridian pouted as he raised himself back up, arms at his back and twisted around each other. He rocked a little on his feet, eyes turning carefully to Damien as he tried to mask his attempt at double-checking that he hadn't annoyed the older boy with his talking.

Damien was certainly surprised by the energy of the bouncing spawn in front of him, and in some ways a little put-off. Not that he was offended or irritated by the smaller boy's enthusiasm (okay, maybe a bit of the second one), but it was so much so quickly that he instinctively took half a step back. When his wings were pointed out, they fluttered sullenly and buried themselves in Damien's hair as the boy half-heartedly attempted a smile. "Y-Yeah... I- uh, I like-"
But he was cut off by Iridian's continuing questions. The boy began frowning slightly and took another step back, beginning to think that he should find a less-noisy family to stand next to, when a small white child yanked the blabbermouth to the ground. As soon as the interrogation was interrupted, Damien began to feel more comfortable, and he shuffled back towards the cluster of people. He caught the last end of the white boy's whispered sentence, and for whatever reason he derived comfort from it. Probably because there was someone else who could realize the value of quiet.
Damien did, however, note the pout on Iridian's face, and certainly felt guilt for causing it, however indirectly. He tried to look reassuring as he patted the child's hand with a hesitant hand. "No, you won't scare me away. I just... was surprised by all the questions. And I do like stars, though I don't know a lot about them." After a moment's indecision, he sat down between the two children, drawing his knees to his chest and sitting in a ball. "Do either of you?"

Fidget, fidget. Iridian wasn't the best at standing still, nor keeping quiet, but he was even worse at taking news that someone may not like him because of his rather bold attitude. It never helped matters that the teal-haired child would come up to anyone like this, no matter their condition or appearance, all in the name of making a new friend. Or, rather, in the name of getting extra attention; it was difficult to tell which was higher on the totem pole for him.
He twitched slightly when he felt Damien's hand trying to emphasize the boy's words, but the action was covered by the way Iridian flipped his head to focus his single, glowing-blue eye on him. His face broke into a giant grin, happy to note that Cheyenne was wrong, that he wouldn't scare off his new friend. However, he wasn't ignorant enough not to see some minor similarities in Damien's attitude that he saw quite often in his own twin's, and this helped to calm him down a little. Cheyenne didn't like the spotlight, and it seemed as though Damien didn't like it, either. At least... when it came to all the talking, right? "Ahkay, I won' ask so many," he chirped, still bouncing a little but refraining from his constant chatter.
Mimicking Damien, Iridian plopped down onto the grassy hill as well, though was more sprawled in the manner he accomplished the action. Cheyenne watched them both out of the corner of his eye, but when Iridian's silence continued for longer than he normally let it drag on, the albino decided that his brother must be letting him take the initiative this time. Either that, or he was taking the 'no questions' request too far, which was... rather unlikely, considering it seemed rather rude to play a game like that.
Glancing up, Cheyenne pointed to the brightest star in the sky. "North Star," he stated bluntly, before pulling his arm back around his knees. A momentary, thoughtful pause before he continued with a shrug, "Not much more, though." No hard facts about starts, at least; he was quite acquainted with the night sky's company, but as more of a pen pal, a parent, or perhaps even a cage.
Closing his eyes, he growled silently to himself. Envy again. It was not something he spoke of verbally. His words recounted the flip side of the coin instead, "The stars are pretty."
Iridian giggled, glad that he didn't have to prod his twin into talking this time. Maybe he was just that comfortable? Well... Damien wasn't as direct as a lot of others they had met, let alone as direct as Iridian himself. "Yeah!" he agreed with the sentiment, "An' I be' the shooting stars will be purdy, too!" He fell backward, back as flat against the grass as he could accomplish with his scaled wing tines. With slight hesitation, he asked, "Wha' d'you know abou' 'em?" Maybe they could all pool their knowledge together?

Damien's sigh showed his deep relief that this interaction wasn't going to turn into an interrogation; he had no desire to spend the entire evening satisfying a chatterbox's curiosity. At the same time, he wasn't particularly enjoying this odd silence either, although it did give him ample time to look up and appreciate the stars and the ones that were going to fall. A small half-smile began to bloom upon his features; it was normally too lit up where he lived to be able to look at the stars nice like this, and so this was a rare treat. He looked forward to telling Cat and his daddy and maybe even Gabriel all about it, if Gabriel wanted to listen.
The white boy's sudden speech surprised Damien a little, and he tried not to jump too much as the boy indicated the Northern Star. He had almost forgotten that he had asked the two of them a question, but he was starting to catch up as he also thought through his store of star knowledge. "Oh yeah, huh. I always forget that one." He nodded in agreement at the description of the stars. "That they are. As for me, I don't really know that much, either. I know that there are constellations, which are, uh, like connect-the-dots puzzles people used to play with the stars. Like, umm..." He looked for a moment before indicating a grouping. "That one. It's called the Little Dipper, because if you drew imaginary lines between the stars, it'd look like a ladle. Do you see?"

Cheyenne couldn't help but grin at Damien's reaction to the star he had pointed out, but he made sure to keep his mouth hidden by his arms. He never thought of himself as knowing anything more than anyone else, perhaps because he was such a shut-in, but the comment felt like a stroke to his pride. He wiggled in place a little, an imitation of what his brother tended to do when he got excited, but tried to mask it to look like he was resituating himself into a more comfortable position.
Iridian, in the meantime, attempted to repeat the word that he was just learning, but kept adding a W where an L should go. Unphased by his failure, he marked it off as a word that he would eventually push himself to speak accurately and moved on. He attempted to stare up at where Damien was indicating, but with his problems with depth-perception, it made it harder to pinpoint where exactly the Little Dipper was. He tilted his head, focusing on trying to find it.
"I see it!" Cheyenne perked after a moment's pause, his face displaying his awe. Constellations, eh? How clever! "That's so cool!" he chirped, wondering how many more of them were out there.
To stave off frustration, Iridian added to the conversation, "We should make our own!" It would be just like trying to find shapes in the clouds! Otomeza could help but giggle as she listened in on their conversation, but remained silent otherwise; she didn't want to ruin any fun, after all!

Cheyenne's pleased smile and wiggles didn't escape Damien's notice, and he smiled to himself as he continued looking up at the stars. He didn't want to try and assume that this boy's joy had been his fault, but he must have certainly helped, right? Besides, he struck Damien as a kid like him; one who didn't smile a lot. So if he had made him happy, then he must have done something really good. And Damien doing good things was a new and strange concept to Damien, one that he liked to have floating around. This night was getting stranger and stranger, because he chuckled quietly at the albino's comment. "Yeah, it is pretty cool, huh? People way back when got so bored that they made pictures out of stars."
Given the circumstances, Damien had more or less forgotten about Iridian, and so jumped lightly when the perky one spoke up. However, it wasn't an idea he disagreed with, so he nodded once. "That could be fun. Help pass the time until the stars start falling, I guess. Hm..." He leaned his head back once more and looked at the sky, trying to forget the shapes he already knew and draw new ones.

Cheyenne may have concealed the smile in the folds of his arms, but the laugh was still just barely audible, even through the thick fabric of his jacket. It was an interesting observation, and one that the toddler hadn't really thought about. There really hadn't been a whole lot to gauge one's attention so long ago, was there? He silently wondered what kids his own age would have done to pass the time in such a time, or if they all did just what they were doing at this current moment. With a partial wince, he also noted that many of them may have even acted just like his brother and found a game in just about everything. Hopefully they were a little less hyperactive...
By this time, Iridian was finding comfort in the grass once again, feeling like it would be better for them all to be sitting down to have a proper conversation about this. Especially if they were going to be making a game of it! His grin overtook his face as his suggestion was accepted, and he found himself trying his hardest not to spout off a mouthful in the way of conversation to follow. He had to tread lightly if he was to keep a friend, but the effort oftentimes was worth it in the end. "Maybe we shoul' star' with the bunch'a stars over there!" he offered, trying to point a chubby finger in the direction of a concentrated mass in the sky. They were sure to be able to draw something if there were so many there, right?
Cheyenne was surprised to note that his brother may have just come up with a game even the albino could enjoy playing. It didn't require that the boy be any more active than was comfortable, certainly not as energetic as his older twin, and it actually required thought. Color him impressed. With one eye closed, Cheyenne tried to trace a pattern in the sky with his own index finger outstretched to touch the stars. They swooped down in a curve, made a swift turn upward... Hmm, it wasn't as easy as it looked. "That one's kinda like a... a boat or something," he observed, single eye still focused on the grouping, though he was sure something else could be made from it. Perhaps something more creative.
"Like a boa' on da river?" Iridian queried before giggling, "A river o' stars!" He liked the imagery of it! Eagerly, he attempted to find where Cheyenne was indicating, squinting through the darkness to the pinholes in the sky.
