The rooftops were bordered by a steel fence, barred with a cylindrical tube at the top to keep people from getting inured.

What could be seen from the rooftops is not only the fields of the university, but a good portion of the entire East Sanctum: from the rooftops of arcadium to the newly developed infirmary and to the skycrapers of the rest of Sanctum.

"It is a remarkable day..it smells so nice out here. How i've longed for the rain..Hmhmhmheheh.."

The wind was growing fierce, causing his cloak to billow with its course. Clad in full black he kept himself a mystery while he stood at the top of the fence, looking down on the infestations that littered Sanctum. There was one man leaving the university, and it was one he recognized. How could he not?

"Nate..Lin.." The teacher of both of his children. A man that he had well-respect for. Or at least..he used to. The man probably had already forgotten about them. About him; and about everyone who was sealed away in Northeast. But those who were sealed were now appearing, he could feel them, and see the anguish of their souls all around Sanctum like colored geysers shooting into the sky.

So that explained why some of them never came back. There was at least twelve visible within Sanctum, and at least three north of Sanctum in the distant mountains. What could they have been planning this entire time? Why had they not returned? Were they basking in their freedom? Did they, like others, abandon those in Northeast?

"They should die..yes, yes..as well as Nate..everyone who lives here. Hmhmhmhm...you all will die. You're time is coming~Heheheheh..Hahahahahah!" He cackled, pitching his head back to feel the rain pummel on his face as he looked up into the blackened sky, the thunder accompanying his laughter. When the next flash of lighting came, he disappeared.

Streaking across the foggy overcast sky, Ski was nothing but a gray blur with a teal blue hint of color. Leaping across rooftops was not only fun but good exercise. It also gave the thief a good look around the place. The area was extensive and lush with life. The structure of the building itself was interesting with it's peeks and tiles roofs.

Landing on top of a steeple like part of the roofs, Ski looked down to find a balcony beneath her. And an occupied balcony at that. From her hood she noted a group of some older boys harassing a young boy, who was hunkered down; tears in his eyes.

"What a cry baby,"
the center boy sneered. "And you're supposed to be powerful. You're just a weakling."

"Yea," agreed three other boys, one of them giving the younger child a kick in the head to cause to cry more; luckily no blood was drawn.

The leader it appeared slammed the boy's things to the ground and picking some up dumped it all over the place. Stepping on it and crumbling it up.

"M-My homework..."
sniffled the bullied child, wiping his snotty nose on his sleeve.

The older boy scoffed. "You think your dad's big, well mines bigger. He can have your family evicted and out of the streets, so you better do what I say from now on freckled cry-baby! I'll be like my dad one day fighting the demons and you'll have to respect me!"

"Yea...Yea..." echoed the three other boys as they stomped on paper and boy; didn't matter.

Watching this, Ski had had enough. All too familiar with this sort of situation. And the older kid mentioning demons gave her a wicked idea to scare the crap out of him. So growling low and loudly, she crawled out of the shadows. Her movement catching the leaders eyes while the others continued their torment.

From her hood, she let her onyx eyes burrow into the little boy's blue ones. And with barely a thought of what magic to use, Ski was sprouting a pair of bat like wings from her back, complete with a a sharp talon on the end of each. The sight of them rendered the boy speechless and quivering.

"D-Demon..." he said shakily with fear.

The others heard him and the bulling boys were the first to leave screaming their heads off; the likelihood of on of them wetting their pants high. All that was left was a petrified little weeping boy.

Leaping down, Ski landed in a crouch; wings remaining out but furled. It was only the two steps it took for the little redheaded boy to bolt with a high pitched screech of fear.

"Demon!!!! Get away! I don't wanna die," he cried loudly, crying harder as he bolted through the entry way and into the rest of the school in a frantic move to get away. "MR. LIN!!!! MR. LIN!!!!"

Ski left on the balcony, she had a hand outstretched to halt the boys moves, but he was a fast one. She was about to tell him forgot his things, but he was long gone by then. So kneeling down at the mass of dirty damp papers, the cross-breed clawed at her hood in frustration.

"That went so damn well..."
she hissed out. "I try and help and I end up being the enemy...how typical."

"Mr. Lin!"

He heard a voice call from the rooftops as he roamed the halls, expecting nothing less from the school. Probably one of the late students who chose to study. The campus was always open for the students. Well, for anyone in fact.

"Mr. Lin!" The voice cried out again only this time closer. Nate waited at the bottom of the stairs until the red-haired boy came. "Teka. Slow down. You know better than to run down stairs." Nate warned, kneeling down to reach the boy's height and put his hands on Teka's shoulder. "What's wrong?"

"Demon!" The boy exclaimed without hesitation.

"...Where? At the roof?" Nate asked, and the boy nodded. "What are you still doing here? *sigh* Listen..just stay here. It's too dark outside for you to go walking; wait until I come down. Don't follow me up. Understand?"

The boy nodded.

"Good."

----

The SDD had warned everyone to be safe, but he wasn't expecting things to get so dark all of a sudden. The wind howled outside, and the further he got to the roof the more he began to sweat. "Let it be known I forgot my blasters..oh well."

-----

"Look what we have here! A human!" A high pitched voice squealed, rising through the darkness of the roof corners. From the shadows a spider-like creature stood out, and at the back of its butt stood proud and deadly a razor blade. Unlike most spiders this demon-like one was the size of a dog, but seemed to grow bigger and bigger as it continued to move towards Ski.

"No..wait..you are not...human!" It hissed, halting its movement before staring at Ski with caution and question. "..What are you?" It hissed again, the shark-like blade on its back revebrating with a sound like blade scraping blade.

(I think I'm trying to hard to create monsters..)

((but it's fun to make up monsters...plus i don't mind))

She was picking up the crumpled and dirty papers with the intention of returning them. Ski sniffing at them with the hope of catching the boys scent. When the wind picked up though, those papers were soon lost and flying away. Clutching her hood and tucking her bat wings close to her back, Ski watched them vanish.

"Today is just not going well for me..." she grumbled out over the howling wind.

Standing, her coat flapped about wildly; her hair a teal colored storm. The weather was getting back real quick and Ski knew she hadn't to get out of whatever storm was brewing before more trouble came her way.

That's when a hissing voice at her back rang out and Ski spun around rapidly. A defensive snarl on her lips; her day was just getting worse. Here was a strange version of spider demon and she hated spiders!

As the creature advanced Ski retreated with each step. "Course I'm not human stupid," she hissed out. "A human doesn't have a wings numskull," and Ski unfurled her wings enough for the creature to see, but regretted it as a gust of wind caught a wing and Ski stumbled.

Catching herself quickly, Ski clenched her fists and let out a snarl; fangs bared. "You really must be stupid to not recognize your own kind...at least half of your kind anyway."

Ski knew she should have probably kept her mouth shut. Other demons she ran by didn't like finding a half breed demon about. That along caused enough trouble be it from demons themselves or any other race.

The demon spider hissed once more towards being insulted. It's size doubling a moment later before finally stopping, shadowing the female demon in its shadow.

Now towering over Ski was a twelve foot high spider and eight feet wide (only the body; it's legs give it an extra six) the demon bared its fangs to reveal gobbly purple blood to ooze down its fangs. The stench itself would make sulfur look good. Its eight eyes at the front stared widly at Ski as if examining. "A half-breed!" It screeched.

The storm picked up for a moment and slowly caused the spidser to tilt, but its legs were well pushed into the school's roof.

"Sss..be you demons or snot..dinners is served..haah!!"

The demon lowered its body just slightly as if about to pounce but rather razor sharp spikes jolted an inch out of its body in a defensive/offensive armor. "You will not escape! Syah!" With its foul mouth already opened it threw its head back and allowed silky purple threads to spread across the rooftop, encasing both it and Ski within its boundaries in seconds.

Once the threads were connected to corners they constricted and stretched to show that both Ski and the demon were domesticated in a dome of its adhesive thread.

"Now you are mine!" The demon hissed, lowering its head finally to billow a dense blast of fog towards Ski's direction that would burn just about anything in contact over time.

(You could destroy the roof and the building if you must.)

((you're back! welcome back!))

Why couldn't the damn thing stop growing?! It was large enough as is, now it towered over her and it was unsettling. That was not including the legs and that was a problem in itself.

As the demon spider bared it fangs, Ski couldn't help but cover her nose and mouth with her sleeve. She had smelled some horrible things in her days but that was just rancid. Made her eyes water as well. At being called a half-breed she growled.

"So what if I am! You can sprout as many spikes as you want I can still kick your a**," she yelled arrogantly.

Course that was before the damn spider spewed out it's stupid webbing. Encasing her in a dome of it's own territory with no obvious escape route. Now it was spewing poisonous acidic based gas at her. This was why she hated spider demons, not only were they creepy as hell, they were build to be offensively as well as defensively at the advantage.

Covering her nose and mouth once more, Ski backed up as far as she could away from the fog. The mix-breed was running on a time limit...she could handle this poison longer then a normal person or any other race being she was a demon. But that didn't save her; she had to kill the spider and get out of their quickly.

So thinking fast, Ski sprinted forward, taking one leap just before the line of poison cloud to leap into the air. Unsheathing her claws, Ski brought them down on the Spider's eyes and face. At the same time manuring her body so she landed on the things back without running into or impaling herself on a spike.

"It's too early for making that declaration insect!!"

(Yeah. I'm back and cool. Thanks..)

The eyes on its head wiggled wildly as the spider sensed the half breed move to avoid its poisonous fog( the rooftop itself slightly burned a meter deep from the blast of fog). Quickly it shut its mouth and ducked its head ever so slightly to avoid being cut through then quickly sprinted forward to avoid having the demon land on its body at all.

Given its size it moved quickly towards the edge of the roof and crawled up its own web without the trouble of being stuck on it itself. "You filthy half breed! Don't think you to be superior!" It hissed, about facing so that its a** was pointing at the demon.

With a suck and push globs of web hailed upon the Ski, scatter showering without any aim but exploding on impacts with either the web or ground to stretch and connect with other exploding threads to further threatened to encase the half breed.

"What's that sound?" Nate murmured, reaching the rooftop door and opening it. Greeting him was a web-like structure that kept him from proceeding to the rooftop. "What's this?!" Nate cried out, moving to touch it but stopped; knowing better.

Hearing other sounds Nate turned to peer past the web through its little openings to see a dark silhoutte. "Who are you?!" Nate cried, then gasped as he saw other dark silohouttes about to rain down on the demon. "What's going on?" He asked, himself in particular.

As the thing dodged her claws, she let out a aggravated snarl. The snarl growing into a growl at the rest of the spider moved out of range of attack. Ski wasn't expecting the giant insect to move that quickly and now it was sticking to the webbing above her.

At the spider demons hissing words Ski smirked with a arrogant huff. "I've wiped the floor with your kind, and you won't be any better!"

With the explosion, literally of webbing at her, Ski took to leaping around to dodge the webbings. Her wings were back into her back luckily so they wouldn't be hit. But Ski was still at the disadvantage, the things was up and the poison was on the ground.

"b*****d! Fight me for real, or you to scared to fight a woman!!" she yelled out after lowering her sleeve.

With that, Ski wrote a series of ruins in the air and a massive plasma ball surrounded by dark energy was created.

"EAT THIS!!"

And the ball was flung at the spider.

It was then that she heard a males voice, though the origin unknown. She didn't answer though, case the spider took her distraction as a means of attack if he managed to dodge her plasma ball.

The demon only hissed louder towards the half breed's taunt. "Demon's can't be women! especially half breed's that don't exist with either race! Haaah!!" It hissed, suddenly dropping from its web with a single thread of web to swing to the other side of the web to avoid the plasma ball.

Once the attack came in contact with its web it tore through with little struggle and went sailing towards the darkened sky. With a quick release of web out of its mouth the demon spider repaired the hole, and with a shine that surged throughout the entire web-like dome was reinforced with steel-like energy.

"You wretched beast!" The demon hissed and curled itself to a ball, its legs clamping tightly around its body as the spikes around kept themselves protruded. "You die here! Waah!!" With a gentle push the demon spider swung (Still connected with its web it let out) and like a wrecking ball (with spikes) it recklessly curved and sailed to crash against Ski.

Nate watched, somehow fascinated by the battle. Being in Sanctum he's only taught and watched his students improve, and though there were fights they were always small an easily stopped. But this..this was something else. This was a death match.

"I've got to do something!" He fumbled with speaking, looking at the web in front of him. It gleamed faintly with what seemed poison and energy. Touching himself could prove dangerous. "..But..I..grr.." He turned away and once again looked at the fight.

Ski watched the plasma ball miss and sent through the webbing. Snarling in frustration of it all; nothing was working. She needed a stronger spell, but anything stronger would backfire on her...but it would be a risk she would have to take.

"Well that's just a loud of crap considering I'm standing right in front of you!" she yelled and with that, Ski pulled down her hood for the first time being in Sanctum.

The reason why she never lowered it being the pair of horns that spouted from her head, not far behind her her hairline. Gently curing backward over her skull like a rams; when she got older and they fully curve they would end not far behind her pointed and elongated ears. And not just that, her eyes were jet black; like most demon eyes. Both these features of evident of high demon decent. Her willowy frame and pointed ears evidence of her elven side.

With her sight unhindered now, Ski could see the demon fixing the webbing and adding more strength to it. It was just what she needed, great!

"Low-life insect!!" yelled Ski in return for the insult flung at her. "I don't die that easily!!"

The half-demon wasn't prepared for the living wrecking ball technique. Ski was honestly surprised for a moment, and it cost her. She was able to dodge to the side by flinging herself, just receiving cut on the shoulder. But with the low laying fog of acidic poison, she landed right in it; face first. Ski got up quickly but it wasn't quick enough before she felt the poison burn her left cheek slightly. Standing now, a episode of coughing overwhelmed her and Ski knew it was the poison she was inhaling; it was like fire in her lungs.

Ski had to end this...and fast. Her demon blood would only hold off the effects of the poison for so long.

So dodging and running, the half-demon at the same time, began weaving both elvan and demonic words into a spell, at the same time writing runes in the air with her fingers. This was her most powerful spell...which came with more repercussions. A spell mixing both elvan and demonic magic with the power over wind and lightning/electricity; wind so harsh and wild it became like blades and lightning so hot it nearly melted everything or turned it to ash.

"Who's ever out there," she yelled in a warning tone. "Stand back!!"

Stopping at last, a circle of teal and black colored circle glowed at her spread, braced feet. Fingers intertwined, she continued her chanting. An unnatural wind picking up within the webbing's confines forcing her hair and coat to flap wildly; the air growing hot and heavy with electricity. Gradually it grew until wisps of wind could be seen and lightning visibly crackled in the air around her.

"This is the end of you!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHRGH!!!!"

Unleashing the spell with her outcry, blades of wind hurled themselves at the spider, flying everywhere in every direction; near un-dogable which meant Ski also felt the wind blades cut into her flesh. As for the lightning, it sparked and crackled in every direction connecting from ceiling to floor, or side to side; in every possible formation. Electrifying the webbing and there for going through it to connect with the spider hanging there.

The spider demon had no escape, and Ski only felt miner affects of the lightning with her miner control over it; feeling the electricity under her skin and burning her clothes and hair slightly. The wind reaming uncontrollable with the scent of blood on it's waves.

The wrecking demon continued to thrash about like a reckless pendulum, destroying parts of the rooftop everytime it hit the ground or missed. Being curled did in fact blind it. But by hearing the footsteps of the half breed demon it was able to direct itself towards her direction only to miss again.

The sounds of energy hummed, and alarmed it opened its eyes and spread its legs just in time to land itself on its web to stop its assault and look at what the half breed was doing.

User Image

"What is she?.." Nate muttered, the light and power that she was gathering making it easy to find her. His skin crawled, telling him that his current spot was dangerous. With her added warning Nate panicked and backed away against the wall. "..You'll destroy the roof!"

Sensing the abnormal energy that fluctuated around the demon the spider froze on its place, the web itself beginning to weaken and quiver as the winds continued to pick up. "Wretched demon stop!" The demon spider ordered, its web now ripping apart as the wind sickles cut through. "STOP!" The demon hissed and curled itself once again, only this time now that it was on the ground it rolled on the stop and bowled its way towards the half breed, or at least tried. Barely able to get a few feet through the demon was forced to unfold its body, its legs cut into pieces while the metal spikes of its body, a conduit, received the wild destructive force of her attack.

Its body was cut open, purple and poisonous blood gushing out before more javelins of lighting cut through the rooftop and collecting itself at the center of the demon's body. With a electricifed and ascending shriek the demon howled to the sky before bits of its being flew across the rooftop and other places.

The roof entrance was blasted open and Nate was blown down the stairs, rolling against the wall due to the shockwaves of the blast and slamming into the floor turn below.

-------

Dust filled the staircase, with rubble making an attempt to bury him with minuscule pieces of walls. Groaning Nate pushed himself up and looked towards the roof entrance, a giant hole now where the door had been. His forehead was stained in blood, but he didn't feel the wound. In fact his rings were ringing a bit and he was a little disorientated. "Hey!" Nate cried out, slowly moving back up the staircase.

Over the wind and crackle of electricity, even with her keen hearing, Ski barely heard the masculine voice call out. What irritated her was the fact that he was telling her she would destroy the roof. Screw the roof! If she didn't do this, she'd end up being spider food! Something the thief was going to prevent at every cost.

And now the demon was telling her to stop. Stop, were they insane?! Ski couldn't stop the spell if she wanted to. And if she could the spell would only backfire and kill her; it was already a double edged blade because she couldn't control it fully. Already it was hard to hold on and maintain the spell while the spider was rendered to pieces...exploding in a mass of poisonous guts and entrails.

Then Ski's vision went white to black.

---------

When the thief moderately came to her senses, Ski was still standing. Though she was barely doing so with her posture slouched forward; arms hung limply at her sides and legs meant weakly and shakily at the knees. Her breath came in deep drawn out gasps of breath as sweat and blood flowed down her skin in places. Her ebony eyes vacant as she struggled to regain her breath and composure.

Ski barely took note of the sound of boots on scorched and melted stone of the roof. She only really started back to reality when a voice rang out. Turning her head with tousled teal colored hair, Ski found a man...a human man standing there as he came to the top of the staircase.

"Stupid human...you could have been...killed...!"

Ski barely got the raspy words out before her body was convulsing in full body coughs. A hand flew to her mouth as the other grasped at her chest in pain. Eyes wide in shock filled pain, Ski continued to cough and hack barely able to catch a breath in between. Collapsing to her knees, the thief was hunched forward slightly as blood flowed between her fingers and splatter ruby droplets on the scorched and cracked roof.

"Poison..." she raspy gasped out between painful coughs. "...inhaled...to much..."

It shouldn't be enough to kill her, but Ski was still feeling the affects of it burning in her lungs. Her body would be able to fight it off...but till then she was in for a hellish ride.

Nate turned to see a female silohoutte a large leap from the entrance, but ignored what she said about him risking his life.

"..And I doubt Dark was dangerous.gah..what's that smell?." Nate cringed, holding his nose with both hands as he carefully moved through the roof, stepping over and around holes that the lighting had caused. Steam lifted towards the sky, electrical energy coming to life every now and then to quickly snake around what was left.

A side of the roof was clearly torn apart down a level. There was a repulsive smell in the air that burned his eyes and skin every so slightly. Slowly he made his way towards the being and stopped only inches from her. Her horns were revealed, and her tough feminine form. The black eyes that called her demon, but he's seen the kind before. He wasn't afraid despite of her, or believed he should. Despite all the cuts that she seemed to have and through the blood loss she endured it to stand.

"Poison?" He asked, coughing once himself. So that explains the smell.. Without thinking he draped an arm over his shoulder, wrapped one of his own around her back and put a hand to her stomach. "Come on..let's get out of here..this place isn't safe."

Despite the sounds and catastrophy that befell the roof he could still here the howls and sounds of other demons roaming Sanctum looking for prey. Either it was the power that they felt or the smell they were choosing to stay away from the university but for how long he didn't know.

"Can you walk a little?" He asked, slowly dragging her to the entrance. Nate couldn't fly or any of the sort. He was human, and not the strongest but she was still light; he could walk with her at least.

He was staring right at her...least from what Ski could tell through her blurry vision. Right there, staring at her but he wasn't running. Why wasn't he running? Why not screaming demon swine and abomination like every other human she came across?

Ski didn't manage to think much further before another episode of blood filled coughs racked her weakening body. It didn't last as long as the one prier, but that didn't mean it was less painful.

Hearing his words Ski looked up at him, eyes a little more focus, just managing to make out his face and mis-matched eyes...pretty mis-matching eyes. "Course poison...do you think I'd be coughing up my own blood otherwise?" she asked roughly, only to regret it as she cringed; clutching at her burning chest.

Her attention was only drawn back to the stranger when Ski felt her arm lifted. Resting over someone's strong shoulder, curling around her back; a cool hand on her stomach against her raising feverish skin. Raising her head, a trickle of blood escape the corner of her mouth as she stared into his face in bewilderment.

"Why do you care?....I"m just a half-breed...leave me for dead like the rest of your species..." perhaps it came out a little harsher then she intended, but who was Ski to care about tact, plus she was in agony.

Even as she asked that question he was beginning to lift her and drag her toward the entrance to the roof. Ski gave a weak huff of arrogance at the question of her being able to walk.

"Course I can..." she spoke through a spout of coughing. "...I ain't that weak..." And forcing her booted feet under her, Ski began to walk. Though as much as she tried, her legs would not stop wobbling or shaking as they screamed in protest at her. The mix-breed just dug a fang into her lower lip and bared it; like always. Showing weakness was what called you killed.

"I hate spiders..."
she growled out which was followed by a pout of more bloody coughing.
