Pain. Dull, grinding, throbbing pain. That was the pale commanders wake up call. Sucking in breath, Zahraa' gave a sudden hiss of pain. Jerking up off her side to settle her weight on folded legs and off the brilliant spread of grotesque bruises that had blossomed like some macabre flower along her hip. It had been days since her fight with Semuan-Ya, but the marks of that brawl were still bright under their delicate wash of snow fur. The bite on her side was particularly vivid, Blacks, purples and yellows spreading around the punctured flesh like flower petals. She'd thought the venom had been a b***h, the throbbing ache that plagued the muscle afterward the venom had faded was much worse. The proud Zahraa' had been reduced to limping around the nesting grounds.

Needless to say, that had not put her in the best of moods. She'd been irritable and snippy at the sisters of the Flock, snapping commands when she felt they weren't working fast enough. Her mood had been so sour that she'd taken it upon herself to remove herself from her beloved sisters to save them from her waspish attitude. Seeking solitude at her nest with only Cabriole as her company, unwilling to let him wander far. Though obedient and passive as he was, he escaped her ill mood and brought her a measure of comfort and reassurance.

A thoughtful sigh cut the early morning quiet, and she frowned, looking down to the male laying at her side. She wasn't sure if sudden movement or hiss had woken him, but if it hadn't, she give his cheek a gentle nudge with her nose. Mindful of the bruise that marred her left check where the serpent's tail had struck her. She was up now, sleep chased away by having shifted onto her injured hip in her sleep. Perhaps they could take a walk down to the river. The water was cool and clean, and she could soak her aching body.

Cabriole had been cautious, but, as he had grown into the habit of, remained still until given the permission to move, though in times of morning emergencies where he needed to go to the area established for relieving oneself where he would politely ask for it, he had simply learned to not drink past a certain time of the day so he wouldn't have to wait for Zahraa to awaken and give a signal to move.

Especially since she had become injured in her fight.

However, as she nuzzled against his cheek, the warm colored stallion's eyes opened clear and, having been in this situation for almost two weeks, calm. He had grown used to waking up with a clawed mare curled up against him, using him as a pillow and a personal heater.

He had a few injuries of his own, though the pain and swelling was down, as well, stinging welts across his face and body settling down.

-------------------

After she had returned, pumped with venom from Semuan-ya's bite, he had requested to be escorted by one of her sisters to the bee-hive they had relocated into a hallow log for transport during the move. However, while he shielded his eyes from the stingers with a thick shield of leaves, unable to make a smoke fire himself to make them sleep, he had to suffer stings from the now small hive as he pulled out a wedge bark up with the honeycomb attached to it.

It didn't take him long to find the natural herbs for the mixture and us had to use a large river stone with a natural cuplike shape to it to mix to in. He used another river rock to mash and mix the mixture of herbs, wax, and honey together to create a compress that would seal the wound and draw the venom out.

Last thing he wanted was for Zahraa' to be picked off -- after all, not all of the Sisters of the Flock were as gentle to their pets, and if she was gone, his fate could indeed worsen.

-------------------

Back in current time, Cabriole stood slowly and carefully as to not hurt her, pausing to offer his back as a way for to lean and push off against to get to her feet, before rising up. He went directly for the compress, carefully shifting the stone up higher to where it'd be easier to work with for both of them, "The seal fell off of your bite... It's looking better but this will help it heal faster..." He went for the collection of herbs he had collected for her consumption and set it down, carefully moving out of the nest and to the side of it, waiting for permission to apply it, letting her choose whether or not to take the 'painkiller' herbal mix. The compress was, at least, soothing as well. And partially waterproof.

Zahraa' regarded the with quiet concern for a moment or two as she looked over the small red welts the marred his handsome features. She hadn't liked that he'd gotten hurt, but considering to motivation behind him, she did her best to remain grateful. The small wounds would heal soon. Besides, he had cleverly come up with not only the design for the transportable hive, but the compress that helped leech away the pain from her hip and battered body. It really was a remarkable thing to have put together, and she could feel nothing but pride in her pet's intelligence and cleverness. It earned him an affectionate nibble at the base of his ear as she steadied herself against his side as she rose.

At the mention of the fallen seal she turned to look back at it, gaze flicking up to the bite. It was healing, and quicker then was expected. "If it will stand up to the current of the river then lets reapply it. We're going to take a walk down to the bank." A small voice at the back of her mind argued that she was neglecting her duties, but she squashed it. The sooner she healed the better, and the river would help the healing.

Snowy eyes dropped to the collection of herbs her placed out for her, wondering if she needed them still. In the short time she'd been taking them she hadn't noticed any drop in reaction time, no negative effects to her awareness. Really, there didn't seem to be any questionable side effects. She lowered her head to nibble a leaf, telling herself that masking the pain was not cowardice. It was simply unwise to remain hindered when there was something that helped. Pride wanted to argue, she told it to shut up.

Cabriole nodded a bit, dipping his nose in the thick paste, "The cold water might actually harden it into a shell, creating a bandage, rather then just putting leaves on it to keep it from getting dirty.." He shivered slightly, parting his lips as he began breathing through his mouth not wanting to accidentally breath in any of the medication.

The cooling of his hot welts felt fantastic. But he couldnt really apply much to himself. It helped the swelling in his face go down, but the rest of his body wasnt bothered by it too much -- more annoyed then anything.

Moving carefully as she chewed on the pain killers, he carefully put the bottom of his nose right above the wounds, the thick caking of wax, honey, and herbs applied with utmost care, giving a slight rolling motion to spread it delicately over the wound, careful not to press to hard against the bruised skin. First layer on, he rubbed his nose against the bowl to scrape off the thin layer back onto the rock, and took another dip, carefully laying on a second layer before repeating the scraping and nodding a little, "That should be enough."

Pale eyes followed the male as he moved around, dipping his nose into the waxy mixture before returning to her side. She paused in her chewing, tensing when she felt his touch at her hip. The damn bite was better, but it still hurt, and no amount of gentleness could apply the seal without it causing pain. She let her breath out slowly before he brushed the mix up along the injury, holding her breath and keeping perfectly still. The twitching of her thigh muscle the only thing betraying her pain. Speaking only when he stepped away, showing the seal back in place. "That would be preferred." The long it stayed put, the quicker she'd heal, hopefully.

She took a moment to watch him, a single pale ear dipping back to hide among the feathered crest of her mane. "Thank you." Zahraa' could claim many faults, false pride among them, but she had come to value the honey stallion, and she wasn't above showing gratitude.

The majority of the pain killing herbs disappeared in a few quick chomps, but two remained, and she gave them a nudge in his direction. "For your stings, so they don't bother you." She left them where she'd pushed them, stepping over the lip of her nest to rub her shoulder along the length of his side like a scent marking cat. Feathered tail twitching up to brush his chin as she gave one of his bells a nudge with her nose in passing, still enamored with the chiming trinkets.

"Shall we go then?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:45 pm

Quickly nibbling up the bit of pain killers, Cabriole fell in close beside his captor, staying close by the side that wasn't as damaged, so if they brushed it wouldn't cause her discomfort that could cause her to snap at him or her siblings. He smiled somewhat absently as he chewed on the anti-inflammatory, "Thank you. And yes, lets sooth the swelling a bit."

She paused only long enough for him to get the herbs she'd left him, glancing quickly over her shoulder to watch him lip the leafs and come up beside her. She gave his ear a quick n** before moving off away from the nest, leading the way through the main hub of the Flock. There were sisters about doing various tasks, and she offered a nod or brief greeting when called to. Even a smile here or there. She was starting to feel better, and it showed.

They entered the woods just past the temporary storage area, weaving through the trees at an easy pace. You could hear the river now, but not yet see it. It was one of the reasons they'd settled there. Water was near, but the thick wall of trees beyond it hid them from view. Close to a limitless water source, but not vulnerable. It was a real shame they were leaving it behind.

"There's a field on the other side of the river, it's close. If you're hungry you may graze." She'd obviously be keeping a close eye on him, but she felt that needn't be mentioned. He wasn't an idiot.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 19, 2010 11:47 am

The 'not run away' was well figured out -- he knew she could easily out run him, especially since the clearing on the other side of the shallow banks of the river was surrounded by wood -- while he could run and get a head start into the woods, as soon as they hit the treeline unless he could make it to the plains on the other side of the forest, he would be captured and punished severely for his escape attempt.

So, instead, he nodded as the water came into view, "Thank you. I could use something to keep the stomach settled."

He yawned, still feeling somewhat swimming in his head from the stings and the slightly different medication he took for his own injected venom a few days ago -- it was stronger, to keep him from swelling horribly and suffocating from the multiple stings, but left him somewhat dry and groggy even long after it had worn off. It was better then dieing, at least, even if it made him feel as if he was swimming through the air in the occasional wave of sensation.

Smacking his lips a bit to try and get the spit moving enough that his tongue would stop sticking to the roof of his mouth, he settled into the water himself, walking across the shallow river until he had to swim a few beats before going in the other side and stopping, feet still in the river as he nibbled on the rich grass growing in the shallow water on the edge of it.

Laying down so the cool water could sooth the stings of the bees on his skin, his hissed slightly and relaxed, burying his nose in the water to blow bubbles in it before taking a long drink, wetting his parched throat and mouth.

A glance to her side took in the honey stallion, and she watched him for a moment. He'd been a bit fuzzy since tackling the bees, and she hoped it wasn't permanent. No one had asked him to tame the bees, to play her nurse of give her first aid, but he'd done it. It bothered her that he was poor shape after the fact.

"Your stomach is bothering you?" She couldn't say she was surprised, he's diet hadn't been all that well lately, and mixed with the stress of her injuries along with his own.

They were at the bank now, and the pale mare slipped forward eagerly, into gentle current so cold water to lap at her legs. There were parts of the river that flowed rapidly, but here, at this bend, it was calmer. She lowered her head for a long, savoring swallow, delighting in the chilled sensation that chased the water down her throat and into her stomach. It was gentle jolt, and she welcomed it.

Thirst sated, she slipped through the water to follow her prize, having to swim more, for she was smaller then him. When he lay down, she sank down beside him, placing herself between him and the current so the water could lap over her hip, but she was unmoved by it, anchored by Cabriole. It was terribly soothing, and she let out a contented sigh. Cheek nuzzling down the ling of his neck before layer her head along his back.

"Not a bad way to spend the afternoon, hmm?"

User ImageBlissfully unaware of any others in the area, a shadow flitted over the grass of the field. Tylir stretched his wings in the sun as he flew, savoring the feel of the wind through his feathers. He had never been so far from home - and he felt liberated! It wasn't that he didn't love his family and his herd... but they had sheltered him. But now he was on his own, exploring the word beyond his little cove by the mountain where he had grown up. His head was filled with lofty aspirations. Perhaps he would meet the perfect mare to bring back to his family... they would be so proud of him!! Or perhaps he'd become an experienced, hardened world traveler- leaving a trail of broken hearted lovers behind him.

But in reality, Tylir new little of the world beyond his secluded little herd. At the base of the mountain, his herd leader, Sequoyah, and the fierce wind herd that shared the mountain with them had virtually rid the immediate area of cougars and skinwalkers, making it extremely safe for the herds to raise their families. He had never encountered any large predators - certainly not a skinwalker, or any Soquili that intended harm on him. Since he had left home, he had talked to a few random others on his way - and so far they had all been pleasant enough.

He landed on the field, shaking his mane out and inhaling deeply. The grass smelled wonderful, and there was a stream somewhere around here... He took a few mouthfuls of crunchy grass and began to wander in the direction he had seen the water from his flight.

While he had been drifting off to sleep, lulled by the soothing cool of the water and the inability to move without disturbing the warm press of the harpy beside him, hunger staved off by the few watergrasses he could reach without disturbing his captor, Cabriole was now almost painfully aware of the winged stallion, his eyes wide and ears flattened. His body had frozen still, not wanting to alert the mare beside him of the the unwary Tilyr(Tylir?) .

He glanced over with the corner of his eyes, slowly turning his head with only a faint jingle as his ears flicked, noting the mare seemed to have not reacted yet to the flap of wings, wondering if she was waiting for the stallion to get closer due to her injuries before pouncing.

This... This is agony. Cabrioles inner mind whimpered slightly, eyes going back to watch the Robin colored Wind, I need to warn him somehow... But I'd be punished if caught doing so, and might... Might just alert his presence to Zahraa'

His stomach twisted, the peach colored stallion feeling ill to his stomach, making panicked doe eyes at the other stallion in hopes of him understanding there was danger and he should leave, hoping he'd notice them and assess the threat before his own presence was noted.

PostPosted: Thu Sep 30, 2010 8:05 am

The harpy was as of yet mercifully unaware of the wind. Half asleep, the curve of one pale ear filled with the solid beat of the honey male's heart where her head was cradled between neck and back. She didn't hear the faint connection of hooves in soft grass. The flow of the water over hip was heavenly. The swelling had faded, and the low temperature of the river was doing a fine job of numbing the bite. For the moment, she didn't feel the lingering pain of still fresh wounds.

Tilyr escaped her notice, but the sudden tension singing within her pet's body didn't. He'd been relaxed, comfortable, a fine pillow for her head. Now he was ridged, tensed. It made her frown, pale brows pinching below the crest of feathers. "What's wrong?" Her voice was soft, barely a murmur, and trailed by a sleepy yawn. "Don't tell me my touch still makes you flinch." Snorting softly, she rubbed her cheek along his back. "It would be a very delayed reaction, in that case."

The caress of her cheek along his body followed the line of his neck to end just below jaw, nose turned up to touch gently to his.

((It's supposed to be Tylir, never got his cert fixed...eh?))

A few steps along his lazy stroll through the field and he caught sight of a few others in the stream. He slowed his pace only slightly to look them over. He wanted something to drink, so need to delay that at the cost of some small talk. He lifted his head in a kind of a nod, acknowledging that he saw them. Looks like only the stallion saw him yet.

He looks so nervous...

His eyes swept over the mare... now that was interesting. She had some kind of a feather headdress on... or was it her hair? How strange...

She nuzzled along the back of the stallion..

Oh!

A sudden rush of embarrassment flooded over the bird like stallion and he stopped suddenly, kicked up a small ruffle of dust at his hooves. That's why he's looking at me like that... I must have, erm... interrupted an intimate moment!

"Sorry!" he squeaked out, moving to turn away.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 04, 2010 9:22 am

"..Ah.." Cabriole swallowed, throat tight as he tried to think of a way to respond to Zahraa'. If he said something about the stallion now approaching them, he'd be a traitor to his gender.

He was starting to realize, with how low the male population was there, and talking with Garuda, that fleeing would only put a price on his families head and require them to hunt for a replacement stallion, and had thus silently decided to stay unless he had a viable excuse for why he escaped -- such as bein caught in the middle of a fleeing herd or getting turned around and lost in a battle -- should he be recaptured.

This, however, was partially because he didn't want it to be someone else. And his fate, really, wasn't as bad off as it could be.

On the other hand, if he cried out and told the other to fly and escape, or lied to her and was found out, chances of his treatment remaining as nearly pampered was slim -- there was the possibility he'd be added to the group harem rather then a personal servant or favored pet. Yes, he knew that he'd likely be shared as time went on, but it was less likely he'd end up being offered to the more violent members of the flock.

Then Tylir Squeaked out a sorry, and Cabriole's eyes widened further, ears flicking back as his attention drew fully to Zahraa'. Hopefully she didn't hear.. Or wouldn't feel up to chasing after a Wind.. Or at least wouldn't think the worst for him not telling her about the other stallion.

I don't think this is going to be pretty... he closed his eyes, looking mildly defeated as he waited to see what the outcome would be.

She grinned, chuckling softly as she lipped the bottom of his chin. Only then did she peek past heavy lids to look up at him. He wasn't looking at her, gaze instead fixed on something out in the field past the lip of the grassy bank. "Hmm?" Pale brows narrowed, and she turned to glance in the direction he was staring in.

A voice broke out before she'd actually spotted the male, and it pulled her attention. "Oh, I see," she purred, lithe frame rolling to place all four legs squarely beneath her, clawed feet digging into the soft sand of the river bed. Tension singing through shoulders and hips as she fixated on the winged male strolling through the long grass. Idly she wondered what he'd been apologizing for, but it made no difference, really. Whatever the reason, it was that shout that would be his downfall.

The coldness of the river lapping over her side had numbed the pain in her hip, reduced it down to a dull ache. Easily ignored, forgotten even in the rush of excitement at the potential chase that had landed before her. "Leaving so soon?" Her voice rang out of the field, friendly, almost inviting. If she could lure him closer it would help her chances of capturing him. Winds were a little trickier, especially in open plains. Their wings gave them the advantage of the sky in open air that no amount of agility could compensate for.

Cabriole beside her had sank into the background. He hadn't warned the male, as was his desire, she had no doubt in that. But he'd kept his tongue, left the free male to fate. A shift of her head brushed the feathers of her mane beneath his chin, a small sign of affection even as colorless eyes stared unwavering at the wind.
