Personality: Ren quite possibly might be the laziest person you'll ever meet. Ask him to do something? He doesn't feel like it. Tell him to pick that piece of paper up? He'll just yawn. He sleeps like it's going out of style, and when he's in class, you can bet his head will be face down on that desk.
However, he's also what could be termed (very loosely) as bipolar, except not with manic depressive. More like crazy excited > dead asleep. He can go from being sound asleep to chattering about completely random things in two seconds fact. He puts up this front of not listening, but the truth is that Ren picks up a lot more than people give him credit for (although when he's in one of his lazy moods, he probably won't do anything about it). He is very aware of these wild mood swings (meaning they don't just appear randomly - to him, at least), and is very much in control of them.

Also he talks too much. Like way too much. Like "Oh dear heavens above for the love of all that is holy please stop talking!!!!" too much. Plus he gives wayyy too much information, so half of the time people learn way too much about Ren - stuff they never wanted to know.
Despite his rather...outrageous...tendencies, somewhere...somewhere...Ren has a good heart. No, really, he does. It's hidden beneath his ridiculously lethargic personality (which only disappears when he's excited about something; hence the talking). He can be unexpectedly kind (when he wants to be, that is).
He's also a vegetarian. Who dislikes meat.
Yes, he knows it's weird.
Yes, he gets made fun of it all the time.
Yes, you will get his fist in your face if you try to tease him about a Gryphon being a vegetarian.
Oh, and he loves money. Ren will do almost anything as long as you give him the goods in exchange.
Why did they enroll at the academy? Basic gist - his parents bribed him into it. Point blank. They thought he was too lazy, so shoved him into the school to try and make something of him. His parents fall into the character of most Gryphons - a proud race, drawn to those things of power and importance. So the fact that their only son is a lazy a** who would rather sleep than do something productive is a huge blot on their otherwise sparkling clean appearance. Instead of trying to get into a giant argument with him about it, his parents settled for the simpler route of just giving him moolah to make him go. Hey, whatever works, right?
Fear: When he wants it to, Ren's voice has a special tone to it that can send even the most active, awake person into the throes of sleep. Another tone of his voice can cause them to start hallucinating and having delusions. However, the tones only last for a certain amount of time, depending on how energetic Ren is, and how energetic his opponent is. A more active person will awaken faster than a sleepy person.
Natural Abilities: As a Gryphon, Ren can shapeshift into his real form - a creature with the head of an eagle, and the body of a lion. He has wings, obviously, but he can't really fly, per say. More like glide. His hands also extend to become bird-like talons when he wants them to.
Physical Description:
Eye Colour: Gold.
Hair Colour/Style: Gold, with brown streaks, shoulder-length with a windblown, messy look. One long braid that reaches his waist on the right side.
Skin Colour: Dark tan / gold.
Clothing Style/Colours: Pretty much whatever's comfortable, although he does have a strange fascination for skulls, stripes, layers, and the like. He NEVER wears shorts.
Extra: Dark brown freckles on the bridge of his nose and cheeks, lion's ears & tail, and long, black fingernails.
