Tarot was involved in a staring contest, one she was determined not to lose. Her opponent; a green eel.

Her location this time was an aquarium. It was yet another of Sev's attempts to integrate social skills into her. Tarot only really liked hanging around with Faiya, but that's because the girl smelled nice and would go along with her to look at plants as long as they found one with an interesting smell. Sev was trying to get her interested in more than plants.

Tarot supposed it was nice enough in it's own way. Quiet and not brightly lit, and the fish were interesting to watch as they swam in slow circles around their waterly enclosures. Except for the eel!

The insolent creature thought it could best Tarot in a staring contest! She was determined to prove the creature wrong.

Maria hated leaving Nicole at the day care, but it was impossible to get both toddlers to meet people when they're both in the same room. Austin's hyperactivity and Nicole's quietness, along with many other things, made the two butt heads a lot. butting heads doesn't make friends. Maria decided that splitting them up for the day might do them some good (and cause her less stress...). Seeing how Austin showed a great deal of interest in space, she took him to one of Gaia's aquariums.

---

Austin's faced pressed up against the glass to the point were his nose was starting to bend down. His breath fogged up the glass every time he exhaled. Arms sprawled on the invisible wall, Austin started licking the glass. He focused on all the animals floating beyond the force-field, an eager glimmer in his eyes. Maria grabbed the boy's shirt, pulling him off the glass.

"Stop that Austin, that's very rude," she scolded him.

((Sorry that Maria doesn't have a text color yet, I haven't figured her design out yet.))

((It's cool, I can figure out who's talking without color : ) ))

The sound of someone getting scolded reached Tarot's ears. She refused to look away from the eel to see what was happening, not even to stare at the glass in front of her for a reflection. The eel had slowly begun to retreat into his rock cave, she was so close to winning this staring match! Seeing someone get scolded wasn't nearly as important.

Austin wiggled out of Maria's grasp, sticking his tongue out. Maria sighed and went back to looking around at the fish. Free from the cage that was his mother, Austin looked around for stuff to do and more fish to lick. He noticed someone his size staring at the glass. Whoever it was, it seemed pretty devoted to staring into the water. Austin had an urge to hug the stranger, probably because it was unsuspecting and busy. He crept towards the child, arms outstretched, ready to latch onto the stranger and give it a hug.

(Sorry for the lateness )

((It's cool. School and work have been keeping me from doing more than just checking my current RPs.))

Tarot couldn't see anything because her eyes were firmly locked with the eel's, who was slowly retreating back into it's rock cave home. But she could sense something. Someone, somewhere, soon, was going to do something to incure her wrath.

The feeling wasn't any more definite than that, other than the offender would probably be closer to her age than to Sev's. She could guess at the things that might happen though.

"Touch me and I will hurt you." There, that was a warning in the air in case the threat was going to happen before she won the staring contest. Tarot didn't know if anyone was behind her or not, but better safe than sorry.

Austin was surprised by what the stranger said. Don't....Hurt...... Two negatives in the same statement? He didn't understand what the stranger was talking about, was that a challenge? A smile crossed over Austin's face and his eyes gleamed in delight. This was exactly the same game Sissy played with him. She would always pretend to threaten him because she didn't want to admit she wanted a hug. Oh the mean words that came from her mouth, all because she's to scared to admit that his hugs were the best. He wasn't about to let this stranger miss out on a hug! Austin made a quick swinging motion in an attempt to put his arms around the young strangers waist.

Almost....almost! Then, right as the eel was about to disappear into the darkness of his rock cave, two blades circled around Tarot's waist. That was enough to startle her into flinching backwards, which then caused her to thump into a very warm mass that felt like a body about her height. Eye contact with the eel was broken.

Tarot's brow furrowed and her eyes darkened. This stranger had caused her to lose her epic battle, and they would pay! She didn't want to cut herself on the blades in trying to free herself from the interloper. A quick glance down showed her feet. She stomped on one with all the strength she could muster.

Austin's head went blank for a moment. What was he doing again? Oh right,... hugging the stranger... He licked his lips, only to realize that he couldn't fit his tongue through his mouth, his bottom lip was tucked under his top layer of teeth. Not sure what was going on, Austin attempted to take a deep breath. It failed. There was a knot in his throat. Something wet and salty seemed into his mouth, was it a tear? He felt weight on his foot. Confused, he looked down to see the strangers foot on top of his. The stranger had stepped on his foot.... hard....

Austin let out a screech of pain, withdrawing his arms from the strangers waist.

Tarot spun around to face her attacker. There had been knives and invasion of personal space, that counted as an attack according to Sev. She was surprised to see her attacker was a kid about her age.

He was about a head taller than her; the top of her head could have fit under his chin. That wasn't surprising though, a lot of people were taller than she was. His hair was noontime sun to her midnight black, and his eyes a much brighter shade of blue. He would have been adorable, except his arms looked like giant knives.

Tarot was gratified to see a few pain tears tracked down the kid's face. She wasn't much of a physical fighter, hence the reason Sev got away with dragging her off as often as he did. The grumpy toddler put her hands on her hips and leveled her best glare at the boy. "Serves ya right for attackin' me."

Austin used the backside of his mutated hand to whip the tears from his eyes. He put on his best intimidating face, which at the moment wasn't very intimidating, when the stranger looked into his eyes. The stranger wasn't that scary, it was smaller than him and looked pretty fragile. As it started to talk, Austin pondered how such a small thing, although he wasn't that much taller than it, had caused his foot so much pain. He was surprised at the stranger's statement, hugs weren't a form of attack!

"What do you mean 'attacked'? You're silly, you attacked my toes!" he explained, his face loosing its small bit of intimidation and his cheeks turning red.

Tarot wasn't impressed by the kid's tough act. Sev had a much scarier face, one that could actually make her feel guilty. That was as impressive as it got, in her book. "You touched me wi'out askin', and you got knives. Knives 're dang'rous."

If she had felt any initial remorse at stomping on the boy's toes, it was gone when he called her silly. She wasn't silly, she'd been defending herself! Sev said that's what you were supposed to do, and she did it, so she was clearly right! Another thought occured to her. "And I warned ya, so there!"

The stranger's comment made him search himself for any sort of weapon. He patted his pockets, checked him mutated palms, even checked inside his shirt! But alas, there were no knives to be found. Austin knew what a knife was, they were the things Mommy used to cut things in the kitchen! He looked back to the stranger, tilting his head abit. He was officially confused.

"Knives? I don't have any knives!" Austin proclaimed. He crossed his arms, sure that this small stranger was crazy.

Tarot was returning the look. "Those things on y'ur hands," she said pointing. Those were knives, weren't they? They certainly looked like them. Even felt a bit like them.

Austin looked down to his hands. He eyes traced the outline from his wrist to the tip of his blade. Well, it DID look sort of like Mommy's knives. Sissy always called them blades... along with other things..., but he never thought of them as knives. After realizing what the stranger meant, Austin looked up tp face the stranger.

"Oh, I guess they are," he simply said.

Tarot nodded and crossed her arms, feeling quite happy that she had proven her point. So....what now? It felt like it would be wrong to just walk away without saying something else, maybe apologizing for stepping so hard on his foot or something. But if she was in the right did that mean she had to say anything? Tarot just wasn't sure.
