Parenthood did not come natural to Mister Rafferty, and that was certainly understandable. He was an attractive, possibly young man, and for the most part his brain automaticly replaced the word 'responsibilities' with 'things I don't have to worry about'. That habit, of course, had changed once a child was actually placed under his guardianship. How was he to know it was actually expected of him to like children?
Mister Rafferty was a mysterious individual. Children ruined that element with their ... big eyes. Such as Riley's, which were currently locked onto his 'father's face. The silence spoke volumes, and soon enough, almost against his will, Rafferty had picked up the child and was now actually carrying him.
They were headed to the park, because the young man felt that he might very well go crazy if he didn't get out soon enough. The elk child had suggested it, though not, perhaps, in so many words. 'Wannnaaa gooo ouuuuuttt' wasn't exactly 'take me to the park, for I love the park', but there went Rafferty's selective hearing issue again.
Either way, the park was a wonderous place. Riley could play amoung the other midgets, and Rafferty could safely read his paper on the park bench. The plan was fool-proof. Supposedly.
(( Oh em gee, I can not write. ))

"Oh, mymy. This is just to convinient isn't it?" He murmured looking up at Ligeia. It wasn't often that he got out of his classroom, less often that he got to go to the REAL outside. He looked at the one that was there, reading the paper and looking far to out of place for his own good.
"Heh. Rafferty." He murmured, his dual colored eyes twinkled with mischeif and Ligeia released his hold on his father and hopped down to the ground as the man started to creep forward. He'd spent enough time it seemed study such things as stealth that he was able to creep up upon the unsuspecting teacher.
He lifted his head so that he was looking over one of Rafferty's shoulders... then grinned, "Still reading? Even when you escape from work? Thats what I call dedicated." He said, his voice right next to the other man's ear hoping for nothing more then to make his fellow teacher jump out of his skin.
Ligeia, uncaring about the 'games' that adults played had turned to take a look around, it was to... daytime out. He lifted a hand up to sheild his eyes from the sun then moved over to duck under the trees to hide out inthe shadows. Much better here.

Rafferty had just been reading a small article that was, once again, going over that whole New Year's kiss thing. Gino's reappearance. Yadda yadda. Didn't that ever get old? There needed to be a larger sports section, or at least better news than where and how some girl got kissed by some boy who seemed to be going through on and off again puberty.
Then again, the paper was certainly distracting enough for Orpheus to make him jump up like that when he had barely gotten out the words 'still reading'.
"FUUUUuuu....dge," Rafferty said, whirling around to glare darkly at the other. Red eyes helped a bit for that kind of thing. Normally, there would be a lot more yelling and swearing, but this was a park. Riley was still... somewhere.
"Damn it... who the hell does that kind of thing?"
A small, disturbed look.
"You weren't... flirting...?"

"Ohhhh... hoho. I know what you were about to saw Rafferty. Sheesh you know that this is a park and there are kids around." He told him, a normal person would be quite intimidated by Rafferty's glare. Orpheus was far from normal and since he had gotten yelled at my most everyone in D-Corp at some point or another he was rather used to people glaring at him.
He gave a grin and then moved around to plop down on the bench next to Rafferty and gave him an odd look, "Flirting? Maybe you will start looking good if I'm stuck inside D-Corp for another ten years. Until then I'm sorry to burst your bubble but no I wasn't."
Orpheus crossed his arms behind his head and slouched on the bench, "So? Whatca up to?" He asked, someone to talk to that wasn't a little kid was an opportunity he wasn't about to pass up!

"Yeah well, the kids can bite me," Rafferty said, taking his seat again. He should have been used to those other... teachers by now, but they were a different breed. Hell, they actually seemed to like children. Rafferty was perfectly content to keep to himself, and his books, and his hip-less pants.
Hey, they were comfortable. No shame in that.
He grunted slightly at the comment on how Orpheus wouldn't be caught dead flirting with him, etc. While it would have been disconcerting, the man couldn't say he paticularly cared if his co-worker had the hots for him or not. Rafferty was used to being perfect in every way. He always had been.
Right.
Riley took this opportunity to crawl tentively towards the sandbox. He was still quite young, of course. At that age where he probably would eat about the same amount of sand that ended up in his shoes. Not that he really wore shoes.
"So," Rafferty began, inspecting his finger nails. "Don't you have something to... do?"

"Your a brave man. And one that is quite lucky not to have my job." He said looking over to where Ligeia sat, seeming to be watching the other child that was in the sandbox but he never was one to approach another, to shy and at odds since he was having trouble with his speech, "Just the other day I was teaching two predators how to swim. Had I said they could 'bite me' I'd of had a shark and an alligator gnawing on me." He started to laugh and it was easy to tell that despite the dangers his job could present he really didn't seem worried.
Orpheus nodded, "I no doubt to but like you I am playing hookie. I doubt they will miss me, no doubt they will think I'm off napping somewhere again. Ligeia was wound up from getting into my coffee and I figured some fresh air and some play would wear him out and bring him down off the caffiene high."
He turned his dual colored gaze to Rafferty and smiled.
Ligeia crept forward a little bit, sitting at the edge of the shadows that the tree he sat under created and he waited and watched. Much likey the bird of prey he was he was still and seemed as if to be waiting on something. His wings fluttered and his hands flexed a bit. He was glad to be outside and liked to watch the other children but after getting to play with a few at school he sorta... wanted to do that again.
To bad when he thought about going over to say 'Hi' there was suddenly an attack of butterflies in his stomach and his body seemed to go tense.

Rafferty wasn't the least bit surprised that Orpheus was going to start talking about the children. That was the kind of guy he seemed to be. All creeping up behind people, giving his child caffiene. Taking... naps? True enough, Mister Rafferty often would ditch D-corp entirely to do his own... thing. Yet, somehow he was almost offended when the other professed about the same.
"That isn't very responsible," The brown haired man said lightly, glancing at the sandbox just briefly. A lot of raising Riley seemed to be leaving the kid to his own devices unless fire was involved. He seemed to pretty naturally adapt to things, able to make himself at least somewhat useful even at a young age.
Rafferty was sure that was the elk in him, rather than anything human. Human babies existed to be problems.
"I have no classes really, right now. So... it's all right for me do be out."
The elk child was very enthralled by the sand. He had been to the park maybe once, shortly, before. Without a doubt, the sandbox was the funnest area. You could mold it, throw it at Rafferty, and basically do whatever you liked. It was almost as fun as playdoh, only easier to not get yelled at for sticking it up your nose.
Unfortunately for Ligeia, Riley was oblivious to the other's presence. It wasn't a mean ignorance; certainly not at all. He just was like that. If something didn't come into his immediate area, he was going to assume it didn't matter.

"I have a hard job so I see no reason to be responsible when I am off the clock." He said shrugging then looked over at Rafferty for a long moment then away, "He yours?" He asked, nodding towards where Riley was. He saw the way that Rafferty turn his glance that way now and again so it led him to believe it since his gaze was always going to the same child, "The one hiding under the tree watching him is mine. His name is Ligeia." He said it as if he thought that Rafferty had asked. As it seemed it was up to him to keep conversation going as from the looks of things Rafferty wouldn't mourn the loss of Orpheus's company.
"Ahh. This is a surprise." He murmured, watching as Ligeia scooted forward a little more, out of the shadows he had been using as a hiding place and towards Riley, "He's shy you see. To see him going out to another... Amazing."
Orpheus leaned forward, arms coming to rest on his lap as he watched his child, silenting cheering him on.
Ligeia stopped at the edge of the sand box as if was a line drawn between where he was and where he was willing to go. He lifted a gloved hand to run it through his hair as if trying to neaten it and make himself more presentable then said, "H-Hi..." A quiet, nervous, studdering voice but he had done it. And on his own at that.

Rafferty shifted in his seat, crossing one leg neatly over the other. He wasn't entirely sure why he was suddenly feeling uncomfortable. Oh, there were many reasons available, just not any that struck true in paticular. Orpheus was an okay individual, even if he liked children and snuck up behind complete strangers.
Oh, wait. Wasn't Rafferty referring to him as a jerk a moment ago or something? Irresponsable, at the very least. It was all right to be a little weird, once in awhile.
There had been a question. "Hm? Oh. Yes. That's Riley."
Rafferty wasn't terribly concerned.
"Kids will be... kids."
In the sandbox, Riley had finally allowed his attention to focus on the other child. There was a moment before he let out a small smile. Frankly, the elk child wasn't much of a talker. He wasn't shy, not at all, but he just didn't have much to say in actual words.

Orpheus nodded, "That they will though they always grow up to fast don't they?" He said then smiled a bit as he watched Ligeia wishing him luck on his first venture with making friends on his own.
Then he turned back to looking at Rafferty, "I can go so you can return to your reading if you like." He offered, "I figured I would just come over and say, 'Hi'." In the startling the hell out of Rafferty sort of way that was.
Liegeia took it as a good sign that he hadn't been chased off and then he moved forwards some more so that he was in front of Riley thought just out of reach in case, "I'm Ligeia." He said, pointing at himself.

"... Well... " Rafferty muttered, about to consent that maybe Orpheus' mere prescence was not a problem when something started to beep. He quickly detached some small, odd device from where it was hooked into a belt loop. Frowning at whatever message he saw there, the strange man quickly stood up and strode over to the sand box. He nodded curtly at the toddler that was not his own, hefting Riley up with one hand at the same time. Long, girly hair aside, apparantly Rafferty had more strength than might be expected.
Nothing else was said, and within mere moments the two were completely out of the park.
((And wrap.))
