Nervous. Dia had been many things in her life. Scared. Excited. Hopeful. Happy. Angry. Worried. All the normal emotions that passed through a mare's life in the course of a day or a week or a year. She couldn't, though, recall a time before when she'd been truly nervous. She also couldn't say that she liked it much. Her stomach felt like she'd eaten a pile of beetles and now they all raced around in different directions, trying to get out. Nervous. And for what? Everyone needed help sometimes. No shame about that. She'd helped others out often enough to know that no one pointed and laughed. As a matter of fact, sometimes it just made sense to get someone to lend a hoof. Hadn't she been trying to get this done herself? Hadn't she failed? Did she want to risk that again? Did she want to risk trusting that her help would be any good? Or that he wouldn't simply laugh and walk away when she asked? Jarda wouldn't laugh. She had to believe that. Now that they'd gotten past their misunderstandings, he'd been kind. Polite, at least. He wasn't like Diego, who didn't know when to keep his thoughts to himself. She wouldn't have taken that fool to the river if she could help it. But Jarda? Jarda thought things through. He wouldn't get bored and wander off halfway through this journey. She hoped. No help for it. Nothing to do but ask. Swallowing her pride and summoning her courage, Dia made the trek to her one-time watering spot, certain that the stallion would be there, as he usually was. The beetles in her belly raced a little faster when she spotted him just ahead, but relief swept through her just as quickly. She moved a little faster and called out, "Jarda! Good morning. How are you today?"

Since the day that Dia had rolled into his life, Jarda had had a lot to ponder over. Their first meeting had started out pretty tense, but once they had both gotten over their indiscretions things seemed to smooth out just fine.
The young stallion had a lot to think about now. And most of his time had been spent lingering around the water hole while he pondered on many things. He wasn't sure really why he stuck around. Perhaps deep down inside he'd hoped that Dia would show up again. He had kept a pretty good eye out for her rarely leaving for too long just in case.
But he wasn't sure why. Dia brought a sense of familiarity with her. She was a strong mare. Much like the older females of his family. Perhaps that's why she appealed to him so much. Some would wrinkle their noses to that fact, but in his book it was a good thing.
He had just dipped his head down towards the water for a morning drink when that familiar voice rang out a good morning. Instantly he lifted his head. Black lips parting into a warm smile as his light purple eyes shone. Well today seemed to be his lucky day. "Good morning, Dia. I am well and yourself?"
Moving away from the water, he took a few steps to help close the distance between them stopping just a few feet short. He didn't want to seem too eager or perhaps even over excited that she had returned.

She could complain, of course. She could always complain, it seemed. Maybe Diego's mutters made sense. She rarely complimented him on anything. Or thanked him, even on those occasions that he deserved it. She'd been gruff with him, and though a little of that could only help him keep his head on straight, maybe it'd been too much.
Time to dwell on that later. And no complaining now. What kind of way was that to start out, anyway? Besides, Jarda's smile coaxed an answering smile from her, despite her nerves.
"I'm...good. Well enough, anyway." And? "And it's good to see you. I was hoping you'd be here." She could probably have drawn it out, but what would be the point in that? "I wanted to ask you something."

Dia seemed a bit nervous today. Her body language gave her away even though she was probably trying to hide it. Jarda had developed a knack for reading others. He had to, when one's mother's moods swung violently around like his one had to be on their toes to adapt.
Thankfully she wasn't like his mother. It gave him a bit of a reprieve from that little bit of his life. Not that he didn't love his mother, sometimes he just needed a break.
Jarda tilted his head slightly, causing his braid to snap against his shoulder. "Ask me something?" Well, perhaps that was a bit peculiar. Dia hadn't ever really asked him for anything before. But his curiosity was peeked.
Not wanting to draw it out any longer than necessary he smiled even wider. "Well, ask away then. And if I can help in anyway I can with what you ask of me then I shall do my best to...well help."

Dia liked the fact that Jarda was calm and steady. It helped her to be calm too. If he'd been flighty like some of the other stallions she'd met, or tried to make her laugh all the time or anything else that was more a waste of time than entertaining, she'd have wandered off a long time back and probably not come back again. No, he was solid. Solid was definitely good.
The beetles slowed down, at least. "Do you remember that I was going looking for my sire? I told you, I think." She was sure she had, because she hadn't often confided to anyone that she sometimes thought about finding him. She'd spent so long not needing anyone that looking for her father now would strike some as strange. She hoped, she thought, that Jarda might not be one of those. "Well, I went a while ago, but I didn't have any luck. That's not such a surprise," she confessed. "I knew he was a wanderer and he probably wouldn't be any of the places I'd already been, but...
She paused again, studying Jarda. Yes, she could trust him. And yes, she wanted to include him, invite him to travel with her and help her. She was sure he wouldn't find something else that interested him halfway through and wander off, or get into trouble she had to fix unless they were both in trouble, and she hoped it didn't come to that. So she let down the last of her guard, and smiled, a genuine smile. "I want to go again. The weather's getting cooler and it reminds me of family, for some reason, and I want to try again. I'd...I wanted to ask if you'd come with me."

Jarda listened closely as she spoke. He had remembered her talking about her father. And how she had been unable to find him in the long run.
In a way that little detail seemed to connect them. He to had never really known his father. It felt like his mother kept him a secret from him.
All he really could remember was a memory long ago when he had first been born. A stallion that looked similar to his great-grandsire had come and taken one of his sisters to go live with him. After that he'd never seen him again.
His mother had explained that while he loved both of them he had his own life at the same time and that her and his father didn't spend a lot of time with each other. But they still loved each other dearly and whenever they got together it was a wonderful reprieve. But he still couldn't understand why his mother never took him to his sire to meet him.
The thought of Dia going off alone in search of her sire again and perhaps coming up with the same result broke his heart. He too longed to know the stallion who he shared his gene's with.
A small frown tugged at the corners of his mouth before it quickly changed to a smile. She wanted him to come with her? His heart fluttered briefly. Dia wanted him there with her and that spoke a lot to him. "Well...if you want me to." His tail flicked thoughtfully. "In fact, how about we search for our sires togther? I don't really know mine all that well either, so we could help each other both try to achieve our dreams?"

She'd been prepared for him to say no. Of course she hoped he wouldn't. The prospect of going off alone again didn't appeal. She'd just been on her own for far too long. She wanted someone to lean on and to confide in. She trusted Jarda enough to think she could tell him some things, but now? If he was really willing to travel with her? She could lean as well.
Her smile warmed. Those beetles were moving around in her stomach for entirely different reasons now. She almost felt like kicking up her heels or laughing for no reason. "I want you to," she promised. "And we could do that. I help you and you help me. Maybe we'll both get lucky this time."
Rather than dreading wandering off again, she was looking forward to the journey for the first time since deciding to give it another shot. "Will you need time to tell your family? Wouldn't want them to worry." Though Jarda could certainly take care of himself and if not, she'd be there to back him up with every hoof.
And she was eager to go. If they left now, maybe they could find their sires and be back before the worst of winter.

The sincerity in her voice spoke volumes to his ears. His smile grew even larger. Who knew what adventures they might encounter together? Sure, finding their fathers was the main goal of the whole trip, but that was all that might happen.
Shaking his head, he quickly blew his bangs out of his eyes with a quick, hot breath. "Nah, I think it'll be ok with them. I'm an adult now and as long as I come back eventually I think they'll be ok." Though in the back of his mind he knew perhaps he should tell them. But then again his mother would probably have some kind of fit if she knew. It would really depend on what kind of mood she was in that day. And really, he could deal without the dramatics.
"Do you have anything you need to do before we leave?"
