. . . When men were kind. When hopes were high and life worth living. There was a time . . . when it all went wrong. That time started for Lennyka Patrissia Dinkley when she decided to join Team Rocket to bring her brother home. Before her dearest brother had joined the ranks of all things terrible and every villain is lemons, he was such a sweet man who treated Lennyka like a sister. Since she's her stay in Team Rocket Headquarters though, he's been nothing more than a grumpy lion with a thorn under his paw.

"Sorano!" she would cry helplessly outside his grunt dorm. "Sorano, let me in! I want to talk to you!"

To which he'd reply, "Go 'way, damn it! I's tryin' ta get some sleep."

The only way for her to strike up a conversation with her was to call him via phone . . . while they were in the same damn building. Wasn't that just a waste of her precious minutes? She did what she could though. Len knew deep down that her brother still cared for her. That cold as ice heart of his just needed to be gently warmed up, is all.

Hiding herself in the confines of TRHQ's library, Lennyka whispered delicately into her cell phone.

"Big brother, what do you want for dinner tonight?" she asked. "I know you don't like going out . . . but I can cook something for you if you wish?" A small pause. "Oh, alright . . . but! Darn it, big brother, listen! You've been pushing me away for a long time, why can't we just-" Beep!

King of Ruining Moments ruined yet another one . . . and this was for him to spend some time with his sister. Slumping again a bookshelf, Lennyka breathed deeply. Did Sorano not want anything to do with her anymore? What was family to him anyway? Wasn't family suppose to stick together?

So many questions, so many questions to be left unanswered. A small tear trickled down her vibrant cheek than another. All this morphed to sobs in the quiet dankness of Lennyka's second home.

Ohana seemed to mean nothing to him anymore.

There were days, very few days, that she longed to go back to her home, back to Ecruteak. How long ago had her last visit been? 3 years? 4 years? The point was that it had been a long while. Once in a blue moon, Lilith longed to go back and to walk the quiet streets of the ancient city, to stroll the silent and beautiful path to the Tin Tower. She wondered how much the city she loved had changed. Hopefully, not much. Over the eons, hardly anything had changed about the city since it was erected, or so Lilith was told by her mother. Her mother... She knew that her family was missing her, but she could not bring herself to call them or to visit. It would be too sad.

Lilith wandered the halls of the HQ in a daze. When she regained her bearings, she found herself in a familiar locale: the library. She sighed and walked into the spacious room, absorbing the warm and friendly scents and sights of aged, moldy books. It was perhaps the greatest scent ever discovered. As Lilith perused the aisles thoughtfully, she swore that could hear the soft and quiet sounds of someone crying. Curious and slightly alarmed, Lilith looked behind a large stack of books to see a young woman, a grunt, sobbing her eyes out. Lilith felt and pang of pity and knelt down beside the woman. "Hey... A-are you okay?"

Lennyka threw herself backwards and gave a blank stare towards that voice that just spoke. Was that a ghost? Couldn't possibly be a ghost, yes? Not a ghost, right? Right, right? The appearance of a young woman was seen through her blurry view. One of red-brown hair extending to her rump and eyes that strummed rhythms. Sorano had described a stare like that to her. This could not be the girl, no? A small shake of her head answered this thought. Couldn't possibly be. The beauty of the woman Sorano describe could rival that of the kimono girls in Ecruteak. This one was different, indeed.

"Ah." she croaked out through her tears. She'd been concentrated on her own thoughts for so long she'd forgotten to answer. "I-I'll be alright."

The sincerity of that answer was far from the truth. She could feel the want to cry well up inside her. Yet, she forced her heart to hold it in. Not yet. Don't come out just yet.

Lilith could have sworn that she had seen her around before... She looked so familiar. The particular shape of her face and cheekbones, the teal hair... This young woman looked very much like Sorano. How odd it seemed. Perhaps she was related to him?... No, no, that couldn't be. This girl looked far too feminine and fragile and shy to be even loosely related to that idiot. Still, the thought weighed on Lilith's mind.

Lilith frowned a bit at the girl's answer. "I don't believe you." She huffed a bit and put her hand on her hip. "You're not terribly good at lying." A feeling of pity began welling up in Lilith's heart and she knelt down beside the young woman. "Come on. Tell me what's wrong." It felt slightly uncomfortable being so emotionally involved with someone, but Lilith felt and odd sense of wanting to help this girl.

Her ability to lie was much more of a curse than a given. She could hardly convince anyone with her words when she strayed from honesty. Swallowing deeply, Lennyka inclined her head when her master act was foiled with a deft perry.

"Ah . . . I'm sorry, I shouldn't . . . I shouldn't have lied." She felt like cutting off her tongue than. She wasn't one to lie, haven't done so since she was young. She took the light scolding from the other deeply. It shouldn't have hurt like so (She was a grown woman for crying out loud!), but did. Like a lush, she put the blame on the moment. At least it made her feel better.

"Have you heard the story of the poet Orpheus and his wife, Eurydice?" she mumbled, mostly to herself. "Of a man who's love fathomed even that of the underworld to obtain the woman he loved? Eurydice died upon being bit on the heel by a wandering serpent. Her husband cried to the nymphs and they told him to go to the underworld to obtain his wife. Upon reaching, he sang a beautiful song to Hades and his mistress Persephone and was allowed to take his wife away. However, he'd to follow one condition: he could not look back at her until they reached Earth's soil. Upon reaching the surface, he turned to face his wife but was distraught to see her disappear for a second time. He'd forgotten but one detail: both of them were to be on Earth's surface. Only his feet were touching dirt than."

It was a book Lennyka had read just a small while ago. She coughed a little and wiped her cheek carefully and turned back to Lilith.

"I wonder how Eurydice felt when she saw her husband for a second time and . . . disappeared for a second time? Happy, at first, I bet. Yet, sorrow again when she was ripped away. I felt like that when I saw my brother, happy when I first saw him but . . . now, unhappy. Reunions are not suppose to be like this, right? Big brothers are not suppose to push their sisters away, right? Right?"

When she was younger, she was enthralled by mythology and studied it dutifully. But how did that tragic tale relate to the young woman beside her? It seemed strange...

Lilith's glassy green eyes looked up at the woman. Her brother...? Yes... That confirmed her musings. "Your brother... His name is Sorano, is it not?" She sighed and drew her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. "You know... Orpheus loved Eurydice very much, and she loved him back. It was this love that made him hasty and impatient. He felt like he could not trust the word of Hades and that he would never see his beloved again. This is what caused him to lose her forever." She looked to the woman.

"I am sure that, like Eurydice, your brother was glad to see you, too, but like Orpheus, you must be patient. It will take a while for him to come completely out of the Underworld, but you must be patient and not rush things. He will come when he is ready. Does that make sense?" To her, it sounded like she was babbling over some nonsense. How could she possibly make things better for this obviously hurt young woman?

"Whaa? How do you know my brother?"

It was a lame question by terms. Anyone could guess this was the woman Sorano talked about once before. Yet, his exaggerated speech is what caused her to think otherwise. Lennyka guessed this new female figure to just be another one of those 'friends' he talked about meeting. He had met a lot of girls lately, so it ruled out by majority rather than told facts to her.

"I think it makes sense . . . I think." Lennyka nodded towards Lilith. "I'm Lennyka . . . by the way. Lennyka Dinkley. Though you probably already know my last name. Are you that Rosie girl Sorano talked about? Or maybe you're Aila. Maybe Cal? I could be wrong, but you look like a Cal."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Lilith was taken aback by the woman's abrupt question. How she had met Sorano... It was a tale that she would rather forget. A huff escaped her lips as she remembered that odd day. "I've seen him around the HQ, mostly, but we met in the cafeteria, had a little battle and a bet, and he treated me to lunch in Camphoreon. To be honest, he's a bit of an idiot." Her breathing was steady and her eyes did not waver. This was a prime example of how to lie. Indeed, there were many elements of truth in her story, but she had left out many other details, such as their little talk in the restaurant, or the kiss she received after they had returned to the HQ. All things she would like to leave behind.

She looked to the young woman and gave a minuscule smile. "Lennyka... Pleasure to meet you." Lilith turned her gaze away, lost in thought. Beside her, Lennyka was naming off several names of women that apparently Sorano had met. For reasons unknown to Lilith, hearing all of the names made her blood boil a bit. Eventually, after she could not stand to hear more, she turned to Lennyka and looked her straight in the eye. "Lilith. My name's Lilith Thornton."

"Lilith?"

Lennyka emphasized Lilith's name as if she was following the very rules of McCarthyism. Shooting to her feet, she pointed a direct finger towards her too.

"Y-You can't be Lilith! You're not Lilith, you're lying!" she blanched next.

With a swivel on her heel, Lennyka searched the banks of a nearby shelf and withdrew a single book with a marked pink tab on one of the pages. Flicking the pages about, she shot the book down on the floor as if she was throwing a tantrum and pointed her extended finger towards the picture. Laying beneath the shade of a tree was a woman of pale completion and deeply set colored hair the shade of bark. She looked peaceful with her eyes shut, a placid smile crept slowly across her face.

"You look nothing like Sleeping Beauty! Sorano lied!" Lennyka continued. "You're not pretty enough to be Lilith Sorano described. Nuh-huh, no siree."

Well, that's just cruel. How's Lilith going to handle this?
PostPosted: Tue Aug 31, 2010 5:16 pm

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. With wide eyes, Lilith witnessed Lennyka's reaction to her identity, thoroughly confused. What was she blabbering on about...? Then it hit her. Sorano had mentioned her. She shot up to her feet as well, glowering at the young woman. "Wh-.. Of course I'm Lilith! What other person in this damn place has brown and red hair?" To put emphasis on her point, she took hold of the dyed part of her bangs and held it out to Lennyka.

The term "displeased" was far too much an understatement for what Lilith was feeling right now. She was furious. How dare this girl say that she was not Lilith Thornton? How dare Sorano talk about her?! What was their problem? A book was thrust into Lilith's face, snapping her out of her anger-filled train of thought. A long moment passed comprehending what Lennyka just said to her.

Right to her face.

Lilith's green eyes widened and her eyebrows lowered until they were frozen into a furious gaze. A hand reached out and grabbed Lennyka's collar, forcing her face straight into Lilith's. Now, here was a familiar sight. A snarl was plastered on her face. She spoke quietly, almost in a whisper. "I. Am. Lilith. Thornton. Tell me... What has Sorano said about me exactly?"

Lennyka's insides began to shiver with distress. Never (Well, Never has been put into many position like this. Though, he knew how to work his way out of it.) had she been put in a position like this before.

"H-He, um . . . " the words were wedged tight in her throat like King Arthur's fabled Excalibur protruding out of a block of stone. She inhaled sharply and fixed her glasses with her free hand, which just trembled and caused them to fall lower on the bridge of her nose. Hell, London Bridge would surely fall down with how hard she was breathing. Lennyka Dinkley was always known to be a coward. She just lived up to the Dinkley name.

"He said, um, "There was a girl I met today, her name was Lilith. Have you ever met her before? You didn't? Good, because if you already knew her or met her before, this would be pretty embarrassing. If you ever run into her, don't tell her I told you this, okay? Okay, okay? Promise Lennyka! Promise! Alright fine, I'll tell you about her.

She's um, I'd say she's really pretty. No! She is not like that girl from Kanto. That chick can go and fall into the volcano in Cinnabar Island for all I care. She ten times prettier. Like that um, that princess girl from in that book you read me when you were younger. Yea! Sleeping Beauty, that's correct! She's like goddess pretty . . . No, I am not swooning over her! Damn it Lennyka, if you're going to be like so just go to bed and hang up the damn phone! Oh, you are going to bed? Oh, alright. Talk to you tomorrow on the phone. Don't come around to the boys dorms anymore. People are starting to spread rumors. See you and have a good sleep. Night." That's about it . . . So um, can you let me down? It's getting . . . kind of hard to breathe . . . "

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Lilith's eyes bored into Lennyka's as she retold what her brother said to her. The tale was lengthy, but Lilith was prepared for as long as it would take... just so long as she got the truth out of the frightened woman. Her anger had in no way subsided, and her hand tightened its grip on the woman's collar. Only when the story was strangled out of Lennyka would she release her.

As Lennyka continued on retelling her brother's tale, Lilth began picking up a few key words, such as "pretty," "princess," and "goddess," to name a few. A blush as bright as her dyed hair appeared on Lilith's cheeks. Her eyes widened and she released Lennyka in an instant. The hand that gripped Lennyka's collar was clamped over Lilith's mouth and nose in an astonishment similar to what she felt when Sorano kissed her. Her feet staggered back a few paces until her back was against the bookshelf. "Th-that idiot... He said I was p-pretty?"

Her mind was a torrent of swirling emotions. Never, ever, ever, ever before in her life had she ever been called pretty, especially not from a boy. More often than not, she came off as distant and mean to most people that she met, but not in this case. To him, she was pretty. It was a difficult concept to comprehend. Was this because she had talked to him and ate lunch with him...? Then again, he was drunk. Of course! He was drunk when I saw him last... He must have still been feeling the effects when he talked to Lennyka. Yes. Yes, that must have been it. No other explanation.

A small cough followed by the Dinkley pigtails fixing her glasses was all she needed to get her bearings together.

"He said pretty quite a few couple of times after that phone call." she said with a nod. "Every time I went to his room it was pretty this and pretty that and pretty blah. Than again, he was also talking about other girls so I wouldn't get my hopes up."

Wow, way to raise the roof and have it crash down all in one.

"There was this girl Rosie who held his hand and drank smoothies with him." she went on. "And he danced the slowfox with this girl named Aila in a storage room. Oh! He also ate some dinner made by the hands of this girl named Cal, he told me they also played video games together. You only got a peck on the nose . . . which is something but . . . yea. It was accidental, caused due to his staggering when lush and Never pushing him. Ask the Flareon yourself, he'd be truthful about it. Plus, he kisses a lot of girls on the nose and cheek in greeting or in jest. It's really nothing special. "

A small pause.

"If you're interested in my brother, I'd say give it up now. He's not the most fantastic person out there. I am sure you can find better. This is coming from a girl who's his sibling and knows him better than the back of her own hand. However, if you still are interested in him . . . " Dinkley pigtails cracked her fingers and smiled. "I could help you out . . . and justify some payback too if you're willing to help me out. Who knows? He might think of you more than just 'sleeping beauty'."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Lilith turned slowly to Lennyka, that familiar look of rage aflame in her eyes once more. "Other..." The green eyes looked almost glazed over and her ears muffled Lennyka's rambling as it was filled with her own thoughts of vengeance. She just as slowly turned around to the bookshelf behind and began scanning the titles. She pulled a book named "Medieval Weapons of the Middle Ages" and began leafing furiously through it. After gaining several interesting ideas, she snapped the book shut and gave a glaring glance to Lennyka. A small smile appeared on her face, but it was far from happy or kind.

"You're quite right, Lennyka. I was being foolish. Surely that peck was nothing more than an accident. Nothing more." She turned her back to the young woman and placed the book back on its respective space on the shelf. A look of sadness could be seen in her eyes for a split second. "After all... It's not like I've never been called p-pretty before..." Another lie this was, but it was poorly executed.

"Partners?"

An extended hand followed towards Lilith as she fixed her glasses with her other. A familiar glare flashed on Lennyka's glasses as if she too had also devised the most perfect and suitable plan for vengeance. True, Lennyka is normally a sweetie at heart. Yet, anger her and awaken Dinkley Pigtails (Some sort of defining name that is suppose to sound 'menacing'. It just makes her sound like a kawaii magical girl.)

Their actions should be swift and just, considering Sorano is one to fight back. The duo should be prepared.
