Kame had been successful on his hunt, having brought back two kills to his mates, one Thompson's gazelle and the other being a juvenile buffalo. It had taken him longer than normal to drag the kills back, not because there were two of them, but because he had already expended quite a bit of energy catching them.
As he approached the entrance to their den Kame sniffed the air. There was a smell of stale blood in the air and it alarmed him. He dropped the kills at the entrance of the den and hurried himself inside, slight panic in his voice, "Kinaya?!"

Kinaya, who'd actually been snoozing a bit, woke up to the sound of her mate coming in. Nestled by the lioness's side, fast asleep, was a large number of...well, colorful fuzzballs. Eight of them to be exact - all clean and new and snoozing by Mommy. Carefully she sat up some, smiling tiredly up at Kame. "Welcome home." she whispered, voice low so as not to wake the babies. They were all so precious and sweet and were she not so exhausted, Kinaya'd be half jumping for joy at their existance.

An overwhelming sense of relief hit Kame as he entered his den and found Kinaya there. She looked considerably tired, but she was ok and it was all that happened to matter to the dark male. As she welcomed him home he gave her a quick lick and a nuzzle before catching a whiff of something strange in his den.
Looking to Kinaya's feet he saw them, many little balls of multicolored fur, sleeping soundly before him. Only than did he notice Kinaya's dramatic drop in weight, the meaning of all this hitting him hard like a ton of bricks; he was a father now.
His tail twitched so frantically and his head swam as if in water. It was so much to take in all at once, but he was trying his best. He didn't want to wake up his precious bundles, but he couldn't help the curiosity that was overtaking him. He dipped his head and sniffed at the little babies once again, trying to gently nudge them without actually waking them. He wanted to grab each one of them and nuzzle them and lover them; it was hard to hold back.
"Kinaya, they're babies," He said, still in a little bit of disbelief. If one knew both Kame and Kinaya well, they'd think that it would be more likely for Kinaya to sit there a little dumbfounded at what happened, but instead it was Kame, his name making itself apparent at this moment in time.

Kinaya had to hold herself back from giggling ridiculously at the statement from her mate. "I hope so, if they weren't, I'd be really confused!" she teased him, smiling brightly as one of the babies - a small blue female - batted at her Daddy's face to make the nudging stop. It was tickly!
"They've been up and down sometimes but mostly just sleeping." the pink mama stated with a small yawn, tucking the blue girl close to her again so she was relaxed. The babies couldn't walk or really do much yet but they did sit up and make little yawny noises and shift around a bit. Baby things - not that Kinaya really knew what baby things were.

Kame gave Kinaya a small frown, but it only lasted for a moment. He knew she was only kidding with him, but he didn't like that he had essentially made himself look foolish, considering he didn't like to deal with fools. Kame couldn't help but smile as the little blue female batted at him. His children were so tiny as they huddled together on the ground, sleeping and keeping warm. Looking over them he counted them with his eyes; one, two, three, four, five, six, seven... eight!?
"There's so many," He trailed off, watching as the little babies slept, their tummy's raising and falling weightlessly with every breath they took. It was absolutely amazing at what Kinaya and him had created, he couldn't wait till they were able to walk around on their own, that was going to be an adventure.
"They're so colorful," He said, noticing how some of them were of obviously different colors than their siblings, but noticeably his from their markings.

Kinaya tickled one of the males that happened to be stirring and nodded, "Lots and lots." she agreed, "Splains why I was so fat."
The colorful factor the little lioness was quite proud of, "Yes, my family were all super colorful, I've heard." the lioness pointed out, very amused by the whole matter, "I like the markings though. They've got lil skullbutts."

The little black male with a mask of his mother's hair color stirred for a moment, giving off a tiny little cubby growl, wiggling where he laid as if trying to get comfortable again. He yawned, giving off a little cry, his eyes still adjusting to the light, unable to recognize where he mother was.
Kame bent over and gave the little boy a lick on his head, causing him to give off another little cry, though it was less urgent than the first. He sounded like he was hungry, hungry of just wanting mommy's touch, Kame wasn't sure. He looked to Kinaya with curiosity, "Have you named them yet?"

"No, I was waiting for you." Kinaya explained, leaning down to nudge the boy closer to her belly and lick his head a little bit. She was getting into this Mommy-business oddly but still had the instincts to help out her babies, particularly when they were crying.
The girl, meanwhile, had decided there was too much jostling about and turned away from her mother's side, looking blearily and sightlessly around. There was someone else here giving nuzzles! Where'd they go?

The little dark boy gave off a small, but contented cry, happy to have some attention given to him, especially from the person that in his few hours of life he has identified is his mother. Settling himself close to his mother the little dark boy purred under her affections and looked for a place so he could nurse.
Kame noticed as another one of the little ones began to stir heavily and leaned over to give her forehead a lick, nuzzling her gently, both a sign of affection and an act of marking the children as his. He picked the little girl up by her scruff and brought her to him, holding her close to his warm and fussy chest as he looked to Kinaya, his words full of adoration and thanks, "You've done so much already by giving me these cubs, Kinaya. I think you should be the one to name them."

Kinaya nudged the baby a little towards a free spot on her belly and yawned somewhat. "Mm I don't know if I can be creative right now. Being Mommy's tiring." she commented. A small smile crossed her features as she watched Kame with his daughter. He'd make a good father, that was for sure.
The blue girl made a soft mewl, curling against her father's big fluffy chest. This was Daddy, whether or not she could tell things exactly or knew quite how to pick him out as well as Mommy. But Daddy was nice and warm and gave good snuggles.

"We'll name them when you're not so tired than," Kame said, very adamant in his want for Kinaya to also be apart of the naming process.
He knew that in this pride males traditionally made all the decisions, from what their daughter's names were, to where they went, which of his Banu was in charge, etc. ; however, Kame didn't want to treat Kinaya or Tai as if they were slaves, the way some men within the pride happened to treat their Banu. He wanted them to feel equal to him.
Kame smiled down at his precious daughter, the adorable bundle of fur she was. Looking over he noticed how the other little one, who looked like he fell back to sleep mid nursing. It was heartwarming, to say the least. His children had only been in the world for mere moments and they had brought him such infinite joy.

At this point, the lioness was having a hard time keeping her eyes open. "When I'm not so tired sounds aaahgood." she mumbled, yawning again in the middle. She checked the little ones were comfy and safe once more before snuggling herself down. "I think I need a very loooong naaahp." and with another yawn, Kinaya was down for the count.
The blue seemed content to snuggle against Daddy's mane, drifting in and out of wakiness as well. It seemed everyone was tired, but with cubs so new, who was to blame them?

Kame nodded to Kinaya and watched her drift off to sleep with the little ones, staying where he was and taking the opportunity to nap with his new family. He adjusted his adorable daughter, who was taking pleasure in Daddy's cuddles and mane, so that she wouldn't be hurt as he went to lay down.
He was overjoyed with his children, and proud, a feeling he hadn't had in so long since his exile from his old pride. He hoped that he could teach these children properly, and love them to his full ability. He anticipated them growing, already wanting to watch the adventures and misadventures they would get themselves into. With his mind racing with thoughts of his children's futures he began to doze off to sleep.
