[Chokwe Troupe]

Basics…
The Chokwe are collected group of individuals from a variety of backgrounds. From the exiles to those simply searching for purpose. The Chokwe are devoted to granting assistance to whomever is in need of it. They’re a virtuous lot, eager to give what strength they have to the right cause but careful not to meddle in internal affairs.

Culture…
Mating:

I don't care about breeding. A sword doesn't need a fine lineage, it just needs to be sharp.
- Luca Blight

- The troupe is pretty lax on mating in most regards. Flings aren’t looked down upon though it’s not encouraged either.
- Life mating is encouraged though not required.
- Homosexuality is not permitted. Those who wish to engage in the lifestyle are dismissed. The troupe is military-minded for the most part.
- Incest is also not permitted. Those who wish to engage in the lifestyle are dismissed.
- Under-age mating is also not permitted. (ie. Adults mating with cubs/juvies.)
- Inter-species relationships are just fine- so long as they’re within the same ‘kind’. Felines with felines, canines with canines. To mate between the kinds or with familiars is absolutely not allowed.

Different species:
- Any species is allowed! The Chokwe don’t see species, they see comrades.
- Some ranks are better suited to some species than others. No one, however, will be discouraged to pursue their ambition within the troupe.
- Familiars of all kinds are encouraged but don’t count towards the member count.

Leaving the Troupe:
- Members are allowed to wander as often as they feel they need to. However, they are asked to gain permission from their superior (either their unit leader or the Tenkai).
- Members that do not return are considered deserters. If they wish to return, there may be consequences.
- Wandering is encouraged if it brings in new members, new missions, or new stories.

Beliefs and Religion…
The troupe does not have a collective religion. They don’t believe in one set god or goddess, they don’t have any rituals that they perform or prayers that they recite. Everyone is free to believe in what they want to, pray to whomever they want to, and so long as the rituals don’t interfere with the life of the troupe- they are free to exercise their faith as they see fit.

They acknowledge gods, but they don’t devote themselves to any one god as a group.

Collectively, the troupe believes that each member of their troupe has a role to play and through the strength they find in each other, they can alter fate itself.


Troupe History…
The troupe originated in the Anasi- a group of predatory beasts that dwelt in the underground. The Anasi were fond of stories and worshiped the god of Trickery from who they gained their name. Their queen, a blind lioness, mistook a cheetah cub for her own son and returned to the pride shortly after giving birth above ground. When the king of the pride returned, Taban was refused by the pride and forced to return to the surface where he belonged.

Taban was accompanied by four others.
Fubar had been orphaned at a young age. Taban had discovered the maned wolf pup huddled near his mother’s corpse on a hunting trip in his youth. Seeing as the cub had no friends of his own within the underground pride, the queen had allowed him to adopt the pup as a companion.

Lucia had been the beta of a powerful pack of hyenas, sister to the alpha, when their territory was invaded by pale two-legged creatures with sticks that shot thunder. The pack had been driven from their territory, their alpha killed, and Lucia wounded. She had been allowed to serve as Taban’s nanny whenever his adopted mother was otherwise occupied with the pride.

Bai Feng had been a powerful coursing cheetah from a land beyond the sea. He was the emperor’s prized hunter and would often travel to exotic lands to compete against other royals and their champion coursers. Feng was separated from his handler and soon found himself lost in the African wilds. A young female cheetah had helped him find his feet once again, teaching him how to survive apart from man. She, and nearly all of her offspring, had perished when Feng had left to hunt for the small family.

Finally, Nyak joined the small group when his idle travels brought him into the company of the exiled prince. The lion had lived without purpose or direction and found himself inspired by the ambitious youth and his company.

The small ragtag group of outcasts found strength in eachother's company. Together, they helped defend the Umande'mfuni Lands when they faced potential invasion. Through their efforts, the struggling pride was able to keep on their feet, at least for a time. When the pride began to struggle with internal affairs, the troupe took their business elsewhere.

As time went on, wayward souls of every shape and form began to find their place within the troupe. Lucia mothered a large litter, most of which have remained within the troupe and serve as killed combatants. Nyak had fathered a single cub though sadly, the cub deserted the troupe.

In more recent days, the troupe's leader, Taban, managed to complete his own personal mission to catch the goddess of the wind a total of three times. First asking for a token, his second encounter earned him the goddess' name, and in his final encounter she agreed to mother a family of cubs for him. With Leknaat's arrival, the troupe believes that fate has begun drawing the threads of destiny together...

Ranks:
Stars of Heaven
The stars of heaven are the significant roles within the troupe. Most roles require a lot of development to earn and a lot of role play to maintain.

Tenkai:
Chief Star of Heaven
The Tenkai is the overall leader of the troupe. While the generals make collective decisions. the Tenkai represents the troupe itself. He/She is the face and voice of the army and represents them when meeting with allies, potential allies, or even enemies. The Tenkai is largely responsible for recruiting new members into the troupe.

Tengou:
Star of Conflagration
The Tengou serve directly under the Tenkai. All decisions of the troupe are made through the gathered Tengou and Tenkai before put into action. The Tengou each have a unit that serves directly under them. They are in charge of training, caring for, and directing their unit. The Tengou can choose to act on his or her own, so long as they have the approval of the Tenkai.

There can be as many Tengou as the troupe needs. This is a rank that is earned only after a recruit completes his or her training, recruits a unit for themselves, and gains the favor of the Tenkai.

Tenken:
Star of Idleness:
The Tenkai is one of the most important members of the pride. The rank was given originally to Leknaat, the most powerful seer born to the troupe's first leader. The Tenkai is normally a seer, but there will be rare exceptions. The Tenkai's job is to oversee the new members of the troupe and assign them to their rank. Some say they can sense those who have a weighted destiny...

Tenki:
Star of Wisdom
The Tenki is essentially the chief strategist of the troupe. They are non-combatant though they have the strongest paw in dictating and organizing the battles and movements of the troupe. There is normally only one Tenki within the troupe.

Tenei:
Heroic Star:
The Tenei serve under an assigned Tengou. They are the soldiers of the troupe, trained by each of the Tengou in the arts of strength, speed, and tact. They make up the brunt of the troupe. It's very rare for a Tenei to change units, but it's not unheard of. A recruit will not be promoted to Tenei until they have completed their training. The Tenei are highly respected, often considered heros in their own right.

Tensoku:
Speedy Star
The Tensoku is a position open mainly to cheetahs and cheions. They train under Bai Feng. Their duties are to carry messengers between the troupe and their allies. They also serve as scouts for new recruits and new missions for the troupe.


Stars of Earth:
The stars of earth are the 'common' or default ranks for the troupe. They are unlimited and require little rp to obtain and maintain.

Chiraku:
Star of Music
The Chiraku are non-combatant. Their primary role is to gather stories and perform them for the troupe. They are the keepers of the troupe's history and culture. They are not limited to performing songs and stories based on troupe members, they are more than welcome to travel about the land to gain tales of heros and events far from the troupe.

Chisou:
The Walking Star
The Chisou are the scouts of the troupe. They secure the perimeter of the troupe's current location when they make camp and often run ahead of the group when they're on the move to assure that they won't enter into hostile territory.

Chihi:
The Orphan Star
The chihi are the caretakers and nannies of the pride. This rank is not limited to age or gender, but it's common for non-combatant females and the elderly to take up this rank. The chihi are responsible for watching, caring for, and grooming the young members of the troupe. In times of combat, they also care for the sick and wounded.

Chikai:
Star of Gathering
This is the default rank for recruits who are unwilling to undergo the strenuous combat training required for the Tenei. The Chikai are the hunters of the troupe.

Chibun:
The Learned Star
The standard rank for juvenile members. At this stage they are expected to have settled on their aspiration rank and to select a master to train under, if one has not yet stepped forward. Chibun will accompany their master from morning to dusk, learning the tools of their future trade. Newcomers to the troupe are automatically assigned to the Chibun star until they have decided on, and have succeeded in training for, their future position.

Chikyou:
Star of Ambition:
The standard rank for cubs and pups born into the troupe. At this stage they can decide whether or not they want to strive to become Tenei, Chiraku, or Chikai. They will often learn their future profession from one of the older members of their aspired rank. They are not expected to begin their training until they grow into Chibun.

The young leader of the troupe, Taban was exiled from his birth pride when it was discovered that he was accidentally swapped with his mother's true offspring. Despite his hard start in life, Taban remains ambitious and bold in the face of adversity. He united the founders of the troupe and sees each member as family, despite their origins or species.

Bai Feng was a coursing champion in his youth, the pride of the emperor from a distant land. After being separated from his handler, Feng learned survival from a rouge female. After losing her and the litter of cubs she bore, Feng became a wandering vagabond. After meeting with Taban, however, his sense of purpose was renewed. Now old enough to be considered an elder, Feng serves as the strategist of the troupe.

The oldest of Taban's first litter. Leknaat was born blind, but of her siblings she has the most powerful seer ability. She's able to see into the future of those she encounters and through this, she assigns them their role within the troupe.

Nyack was a young rogue when he first met Taban. The lion found purpose in the cheetah's cause and has been faithfully at his side ever sense. In his time within the troupe, he's fathered one son who has sense deserted and another litter that remained with their mother. While he has suffered ongoing personal strife, the lion remains devoted to the troupe and has been one of the troupe's strongest arms since its founding.

Nyack is second in command to the Firebringer unit, led by Taban.

Lucia served as the beta in her old pack, the sister to the alpha, and one of the pack's strongest fighters. When their pack was driven from their territory many of them, to include her sister, were slaughtered. She survived the fight but had been badly wounded. The hyena found shelter in the Anansi and earned her keep by watching over Taban. When he was exiled, she followed along. While she's growing in years, Lucia remains one of the more talented fighters in the troupe. She leads the Bone Crusher unit.

Fubar was found near his mother's body when Taban was just a cub. Seeing as the cheetah had no companions his age, he was allowed to adopt the pup. Now full grown, Fubar is devoted to his friend and companion. He seems to be unable to speak.
Fubar serves in the Firebringer unit.

Fakhir is the oldest son of Lucia, the leader of the bone-crushers. He's the most dedicated to his training but also the shortest in temper. He has a 'no nonsense' attitude and an undying devotion to his troupe. He feels betrayed by Chinedu and sees it as his duty to avenge the troupe's honor by killing him if they encounter the deserter again.

Gremio's life was spared when he was a young soldier by his general, Teo. Since that day he has devoted his life to Teo and his family. After the birth of Tir, Teo's son, Gremio slowly went from war veteran to bodyguard and caretaker. As Teo was forced to serve his pride and king, Gremio became more and more of a parent figure to Tir. Soon Tir was dragged into a war of his own, eventually having to face his father, Teo in combat. Gremio was mortally wounded during the war. By some small miracle, he was spared from death a second time, now by Tir's paw. He lives his life as Tir's devoted bodyguard.

Je'Ome is one of Lucia's sons. Like his twin, Jero, he was completely devoted to his training as a pup. He takes his role very seriously and stands firmly by his brother's side. While he has a serious nature, he's a good deal more understanding than his older brother. Je'Ome is a member of the bone-crusher unit.

Jero is Je'Ome's twin brother. Like his brothers, he was completely devoted to his training as a pup. However serious he appears to be, he has a gentle heart. He's almost always seen with his companion, a small meerkat who was spared during a hunting trip. Jero is a member of the bone-crusher unit.

An old friend and companion of the Tengou, Tir, Viktor has already served in two battles. A behemoth of a lion, Viktor is perhaps one of the strongest warriors within the troupe. He has a severe disliking for vampires or any lions associated with them.

Zuberi is the youngest of Lucia's offspring and perhaps the oddest. Unlike his brothers, he doesn't seem to take anything seriously. He's laid back, seemingly lazy, and comes off as an airhead. However, when the situation presents itself he can be just as fierce in combat as any of his siblings. He's a member of the bone-crusher unit.

An exiled prince like Taban, Vahn spent much of his life in the shadows avoiding the wrath of his older brother. Along with his companion, Meyrle, Vahn happened upon the troupe shortly afer the Mistweaver conflict. Having no home to return to himself and having found acceptance among their numbers, Vahn has decided to stay. He is a member of the firebringers unit.

Rhoy is the younger brother to Shoon. Where his brother is friendly and out-going, Rhoy has a short temper and sometimes has a nasty disposition. He's a fantastic actor, gifted in changing his voice to match that of another. He, along with Shoon, was far too restless for the easy, peaceful life his mother entered into. When he was old enough, he left in search of a way to make a name for himself. When he and Shoon encountered a fabled war hero, they followed him until they eventually ended up in the Chokwe troupe. They now serve faithfully under Tir in the Einherjar unit.

Shoon is the older brother of Rhoy. The two traveled from their siblings when their manes began to grow in. The peaceful, artistic pride that their mother had joined was far from their forte. Both Shoon and Rhoy were far too restless to live out a quiet, easy life. The two youngsters followed rumors of an old war hero until they met Tir himself. Inspired by the older lion, the two youngsters followed him into the Chokwe. They sere under Tir in the Einherjar unit.

Ah.. long very long terrible story. She fought her blind sister in accident since she thought she was treated better for her nice bright pelt which got her better ranked. Not realizing she was blind- she went out to fight her and after a few blood drawing blows.. she found out her sister was blind and would bring dishonor to fight someone whom can't fight on their own. So. She fled- not looking back as she took her other dark colored sister.
She arrived where her aunt lived [/ Amazon pride ] and was in the middle of the male take over and had lost her cub sweetheart in the battle as they got older and were able to over throw. After that.. she became bitter and wanted to die until Nyack gave her purpose again.. and helped a bitter.. ugly lioness like herself.. Now she was to repay that debt to others to fill her quota of deeds to maybe have better karma.

Altai is a baby. A happy! baby. Being raised by the cheeton Safimoto. Before her parents were killed by a couple of leopards, they told her about a wonderful goddess who blessed good, fast birds when they carried messages between other creatures. She wants to do that when she grows up and someday meet this goddess!

Raised in a troupe of entertainers (Minus his former mercenary father who had no artistic talent whatsoever), Tembezishaha is a kind soul who enjoys the telling of tales and singing of songs, though he isn't incapable of defending himself or his family. In fact, he tends to lose himself when he's in a fight, though he rarely ends up in them. When he was old enough, he set out and formed his own small troupe, took a mate, and had five beautiful cubs. But the happiness didn't last. One by one his children left but for his eldest, his best friend and her family moved on, and even his mate parted with him. Pushed by the urgings of his daughter, he set his wandering paws in the direction of the Chokwe, whom his troupe had more or less joined upon his cubs' birth.

The eldest of her siblings and the only one to stay with her father, Safimoto has made a living out of dancing and taking care of her father. She's no fighter by any means and more often that not it's her father who brings down a kill when they hunt together, but she keeps him together. She's very perceptive of others feelings, as she rarely talks, instead encouraging others to talk or vent to her. If she can't help others by protecting them, she figures the least she could do is help their spirit, be it with her dancing or her comfort.

When she was separated from her family, Neha found her way into the Chokwe's resting grounds at the time. She decided it was her task in life to see that Fakhir smiled every once in a while. Taban encouraged the female to see her self-appointed mission through. The female's all sun shines and butterflies most of the time.

She can come off as a bit of a brat, but she honestly doesn't care much of what people think. When Akina decides something, that's the way it's going to stay. If she decides you're her friend even though you hate her, too bad. You're her friend. Never the girly-girl, Akina won't ever turn down a fight. She's a bit of a dare devil--climbing large rocks just to see if she can. Because of her rather hard personality, she has a bit of trouble making friends. She acts like this doesn't get to her, but she does get quite lonely at times. To the friends she does have, she's quite the rough-houser, but loyal to a fault.

But there was disappointment when she reached her mother. Eun Mi was pawning yet another cub off. Hurt sad and angered, Yuki took her half sister. Course not before saying a few harsh things that broke her mothers heart. The two later came upon the troupe.

Sith was part of a rogue family. Her mother and father, tho both very loving and supportive, decided it was best to split up the family for purposes of survival. She and her siblings were raised to be independent, and it wasnt long before she was off on her own. Her heart has always longed for something more. Something secure and unchanging. She is very in-tune to nature itself, but often ignores it or tries to because shes afraid it might make her look like a freak let alone something that is needed for such dire survival.

Rarely speaking, but always observant, Jaques was rescued by Aila when the young seer had a vision of the cub's plight. With no memory of his family and no where else to go, young Jaques was accepted into the troupe.

Riou was adopted by Tir Mc'Dohl. Since he could remember, he had visions of another's life, through another's eyes. When Tir happened upon the troupe, he already reconized many of the members. It was then he met Jowy, a young cheeion who apparently had been seeing Riou's life through his eyes. The two quickly became close companions, now it's nearly impossible to see one without the other.

Like his siblings, Jowy possesses seer abilities. As long as he can remember, Jowy has been seeing someone else's life through someone else's eyes. When Tir, Teyd, and Riou happened upon the troupe, Jowy knew them at once. It was the cub's insistence that drove Taban to extend an invitation to the travelers. He and Riou are constantly seen together training and playing. Jowy aspires to join Tir's unit when he's old enough.

IC and OC Questions and Answers

question What is the theme of the troupe?
A: The troupe is loosely based off the Suikoden game series. If you’re not familiar with the game, basically the ‘backbone’ of the games is that through the gathered ‘destinies’ of 108 characters, fate itself can be altered. In every game a force of virtuous individuals strives to bring peace to their homeland. The characters come from all walks of life and each of them brings a different story with them.

question Do I have to know anything about the games to fit into the troupe?
A: No, we’re taking the basic idea of the games and turning them into a fun group idea for our soa’s. A lot of the members are cosplays, but it’s not a requirement.

question Can I contact you for a plot?
A: Please do! We need enemies, allies, new recruits, you name it! Keep in mind that the troupe will not meddle in internal affairs. They’ll protect lawful prides, fight unlawful ones, route invaders, or defend boarders- but once the outside threat is gone, so are they.

question What are the prides they won’t help?
A: Aikanaro'hini, Antianeira , Bhanu'Ecchumati, Kucha'ujamaa, Kunanda'Nakhun, Mtango'bui, Mwako'bi'Giza, & Umande'mfuni.

question Any particular reason?
A: Either because the prides would be seen as unjust/morals clash with those of the troupe, incidents in the past, or the pride leaders aren’t respected by the troupe’s leaders.

question Can a god join?
A: Yes! Gods are allowed to join however, they will not get a special rank or more respect than anyone else within the troupe. Everyone earns their own way.

- Beast King/Queen: The common term for a lion or lioness.
- Moon-Caller: The common term for a wild dog.
