Character Name: Faehari
Age: 19
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Candidate, Wherhandler Apprentice
History: Faehari was born to an influential family in a minor hold. As the firstborn child of her parents she was spoiled, despite being a girl. She was never expected to do any serious work, and was instead pampered and groomed to be a wife, because her mother expected that she could marry well with her looks. However, her father was just a hair more practical and demanded that Faehari have a back-up plan. At first Faehari has appalled, because she thought that the only things she could do at home would be to mine or be some lowly fisher’s wife. Faehari and her mother fought bitterly with her father over this point, insinuating that he didn’t think his own daughter was good enough to get a decent marriage. In the ensuing fallout, one of Faehari’s father’s friends approached them with a solution: Faehari could become a Wherhandler. Faehari’s mother was appalled, thinking whers to be disgusting, but as Faehari considered the idea she decided that it was as good a plan as any, assuming she could get a Gold wher.
Faehari had been training with the local Wher Handlers for a year when she was Searched. When she arrived in Malvren Weyr, she was faced with a bit of culture shock. She was no longer treated like a pampered princess, and no longer respected simply because of the family she had been born to. As Faehari grew older and more accustomed to Weyr life, her attitude changed. The only Hatchings she showed an interest in were those with a Gold egg. Faehari spent the rest of her time waiting for news of a gold wher egg with her name on it and trying to single out a husband from the wealthy visitors to the Weyr.
Description: Faehari has thick, curly black hair that she keeps at an impractical waist length. She has black eyes and medium-tan skin. She is leanly muscled, but her well-proportioned curves ensure that she’ll never be mistaken for a boy.
Personality: Faehari has a sharp, gilded tongue. Her comments go beyond being bluntly honest, often venturing into the category of being simply insulting. Faehari usually only lashes out if she thinks something warrants it, but the problem is that she thinks lots of things warrant it. She’ll call you out on your “white” lies and make fun of your terrible haircut. The way that her comments go above and beyond what is necessary to get the point across is usually what makes her seem malicious, even if that wasn’t her intent. The only time Faehari seeks to be insulting is when she’s in a bad mood, or dealing with people she doesn’t like; it seems like there’s a lot of people she doesn’t like though.
Faehari can be a bit oblivious and naïve. She doesn’t always intend to hurt people’s feelings, but it doesn’t change the fact that she does and doesn’t understand how or why. When she likes/believes in something, or tricks herself into liking/believing something, she blinds herself to the opposing views and arguments.
What is arguably one of Faehari’s best trait is one that she is not actively aware of. Her mind has the ability to twist situations to her liking. For example, being a Wher Handler is by no means a glamorous job. However, when it was offered as an option for her future, she subconsciously knew that there were few other jobs aside from being a Wher Handler that she’d be willing to do, so her mind shifted. Despite previously being one to look down on whers and Wher Handlers, she came to think that becoming Wher Handler would be great. She even came to think that Wher Handlers were martyrs of a sort, doing such an important job for so little respect. This trait is a sort of self-defense mechanism, so that when life gives her lemons not only will she not cry, the lemonade she will make will be the best sharding lemonade ever.
That aside, Faehari is a confident, out-going girl that has no problem being in the spotlight. She loves to flirt and likes the looser ways of Weyr life. Although she can be a social butterfly, her mind trick trait ensures that she can be content on her own if need be. She’s more up-to-date with gossip then with news and knows the power of a few well-placed words. She can lie with a smile and small talk like a politician. She places a high importance on appearance and spends hours managing her hair, soothing her skin, and keeping fit. Faehari proud and is always seen with her head held high, seemingly unaffected by the goings-on around her. When she wants to be she can be good at listening and picking up on body language.
Faehari will go to great lengths for those she considers a friend, but if their friendship fails then she may become especially spiteful. The reason for this is because she has trouble trusting people. Perhaps because she can be mean, spiteful, and flaky herself, she expects everyone else to be the same. Deep down she feels that it’s only a matter of time before you show your true colors.
