The sun, a powerful scorching ball of fire that hung in the sky. It burned all beneath is and baked the very sand until it was like walking on coals. It's harsh light created mirages out here in the desert that would fool the unwary wolf into wandering aimlessly.
Osiris was not an unwary wolf though. He left only light paw prints in the sand behind him, and even those were quickly swept up by the wind. He was a lithe and slightly muscular built wolf, with luxurious black fur and golden markings all along his body. His green eyes scanned the horizon as his tail flicked from side to side. His face was stony and apparently emotionless, but a slight flicker of apprehension sometimes surfaced on it.
"I like we lost them." He says after a moment of consideration as he turns to look at his beautiful mate.

She walked beside him, her pace equal to his. She was not a female to be subservient, and in fact.. she liked to take the reigns quite a bit. Though she did serve her mate in the ways he asked. She was a good mate in that regard. Her glittering blue eyes shone like gems in the sunshine, and she looked over to Osiris, connecting with his emeralds.
"Good. Its been too long of a travel. We need to do something thats a bit more entertaining, and running doesnt fit the bill." She hissed through her teeth. Her 'S's were drawn out like that of a snake, only not so exaggerated. Her accent from the deserts surrounding her. She was happy to have escape the tyrany of the last male.. He had claimed her for himself.. Hadnt he realized she was a Pharoahess, and her mate a Pharoah himself? She had not been willing to join anyone else..
"Come my king.. We must find shelter before the sun sets."

Osiris nodded and trotted forward. He wanted to find a suitable den for his queen, since she deserved only the finest. She was the love and light of his life and he'd do anything for her. He knew when that warlord male had taken possession of her he knew it was wrong. He wasn't a prophet, but knew that she was meant to be with him from the moment he'd set eyes on her.
Finding adequate shelter in the desert was another matter though. They were in the middle of nowhere, with only the occasional cacti to act as any breaker in the monotonous scenery. The black wolf was used to this though, but he was on the look out for a small cave. They were notorious for appearing from seemingly nowhere and breaking creature's legs when they weren't suspecting it. His eyes were keen though, and he abruptly came to a stop when he saw a crack in the ground. He padded over to it and shifted the sand away with his paws to reveal a small cave the perfect size for two wolves. "Is this acceptable my queen?" He asks after a moment more of digging and steps back to let her inspect it.

Was it good enough for her? Not nearly.. But she knew better than to be picky in the bad times they had fallen into. She truly saw herself as a queen.. She had not been happy to leave her royal throne, only to have to try and survive this cruel world. She just groaned and nodded, sniffing the crack in the earth that once he had dug a bit had turned into a larger hole of a den. She wasnt happy about this, but damn it, she had to get over it. Her golden orange fur bristled with irritation. Why had she been dealt this cruel fate? She supposed it was due to her practices.. She had enjoyed a bit of torture or cruelty to others. Not too much of course, but a little had been enough to drive her crazy and make her feel truly powerful. She didnt like to cause it, no. She hated her pelt being dirty. She preferred others to carry the blood on their paws.
"I imagine it is, my king, Though I shall say it cant be a den for us long." SHe said, wrinkling her nose at it once more.

The black male noted his mate's distress. He knew this wasn't good enough for her, or even him for that matter, but it would have to do. He wasn't as attached to the aesthetics as Isis had been, but he'd enjoyed the comforts he'd been given and was sad to seem them go. The stoic wolf gently nuzzled his mate's ear before stepping back. "It is only for the night my love. We will continue early in the morning."
He stepped back to let her step in first. In truth, he spoiled his mate a lot. Most males were very dominating in their society and only used their females as trophies or to create male offspring. Osiris knew that his match had been made by the gods, and that he'd treat his Queen with love and care and never ever hurt her. He was romantic like that.
Suddenly an idea struck him. "I'll be back." He says before he trots off into the rapidly cooling night. It took him only a few minutes to locate what he was looking for; a small hole in the ground. He squatted in front of it, then darted his paw out and flung most of the sand away, exposing a small sand shrew. It squealed loudly before he snapped his head forward and broke it's neck with one bite. Then he picked it up and trotted back to the makeshift den. He wiggled inside with Isis and dropped the shrew in front of her. He was ravenous himself, but he wanted his mate fed first. "For you." He says simply before he lays his head down on his paw and relaxes.
