Nko was getting bored and she knew it. She was tired of waiting around for this ceremony to take place. On restless paws she paces ten steps left, a turn, then 10 steps right. If she kept at it much longer she'd have worn a path nowhere! If she had been asked, Nko would have sworn everyone was avoiding her.
At the end of one such pass, she sits down and stares into the distance. Perhaps this fidgeting had come from before. They were always on the moving traveling somewhere, but now that the destination was reached.... Nko felt she had nothing to do with her paws. Her tail thaps the ground in annoyance. The sun decided then it was going to set directly in her eyes. She scowls at it but stubbornly refuses to move or turn away.

Amalthea was not in a hurry to go anywhere in particular, though she might have been hoping to avoid any confrontation as the night neared. The moon was large the last couple nights and because tonight was a full moon it would be a long, busy night. Finally the appropriate time to welcome those who had found their way home had come.. but Amalthea had started to feel anxious on the nights of the full moon, seeing the gigantic eye glaring down at her suspiciously since her place was one of poor favor. And the attitude she had acquired upon learning her place made her anxious for the night's festival. With the sun just starting to set, it would still be a while.. Amalthea walked along, hoping anticipation would keep many of the pride members busy and away from her.

Blinded by the red glare of the setting sun, it was her ears that first warned Nko that she wasn't alone anymore. Tearing her eyes away from the glowing red orb and blinking furiously to clear the daze away; with the dazzle gone from her eyes she spots a lone lioness strolling along. She rises to her feet, anxiously.
"Hello? Are you looking for me?" Maybe? Finally? She barely keeps her claws from digging into the dirt. It wouldn't do to give the wrong impression to this lioness.

Her anxiety cost her attention and she was startled when suddenly someone seemed to appear out of nowhere and address her. She looked over to the unfamiliar lioness, taking a breath to calm herself down again (and figure out exactly what she was being asked) before speaking up. It seemed to be one of the newly returned members and she seemed to be getting anxious for the ceremony. Those were reasonable assumptions.
"I- I- no, I'm just out for a walk," she said, frowning a bit at herself, "It's going to be a long night. You're one of the new members?"

Nkosazana almost scowled. Why wasn't this lioness looking for her? As disappointed as she was, Nko was determined to talk to her anyhow. She strolled friendlily over to the other. "So where are you going? Is it nearby?" She considered if she really wanted to tag along after this lioness or not.
"We-ell I'm not exactly new, but it has been some time since I've been around." Nko gives the other a look that says she should have known that. "By the way, I'm Nkosazana."

"I was not going anywhere in particular, just- stretching my legs before things started tonight," she said, offering a shaky smile and glancing up to the moon- almost warily. But she looked back down. It was worse meeting strangers, she couldn't know how they would react to her status. Most were agreeable enough but that didn't mean everybody was.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Nkosazana," she said, her voice a touch quieter as she tried not to cower at the look she got, "I'm Amalthea."

"Oh," a pause, "well I guess you don't want to wander too far. It wouldn't do to miss it." Nko followed her glance up to the moon and sighed. "It seemed to take so long for it to become full. I almost can't believe that its finally here. How long do the ceremonies last usually?" She glanced curiously at the other.
"Thanks. Nice to meet you too Amalthea. Say, what is your job in the pride?" Nko hoped she might say guard for huntress, cause then they'd get to sort of work together.

Amalthea smiled sheepishly at the comment of how long it took for the moon to become full. It did seem to take forever when you were waiting for it, she remembered how eager and impatient she had been before she was officially initiated. It seemed so silly now, she was so optimistic and this was where it had gotten her.
"For the higher classes, they tend the take longer, I guess they have more reason to celebrate," she said quietly, "And because tonight is such a big deal, it could go the whole night."
And that was why Amalthea was out for a walk now, she had to get herself psyched for the night.. it wouldn't do to be an anxious mess. She perked up, surprised by the question about her job- not so much because it was unexpected but she didn't particularly like telling anybody who didn't already know.
"I- I'm a slave," she murmured, her voice even quieter.

Nko plopped down with a purr. The night was still young and she could scent a slight fresh breeze. Smells tingled her nostrils; soon she knew they'd become as familiar as her own coat. "Well, everyone should be included. Don't you think? Surely the lower classes will want to mingle with their betters."
She nearly brushed her whiskers as she spoke. "It is a time to rejoice for the high classes and a time for those others to get to know their betters." For her, it would be a time to kiss a** with her betters, and find others who would be kissing hers! Nko knew she could be an excellent protected if she wanted.
The reddish lioness went swiftly quiet. Her eyes seemed to go slightly unfocused. She's just a slave? I've been talking to this lioness as if she's higher ranked than she is. I'm so glad it was just us out here and nobody saw that. It could have really hurt my standing. I wonder...
With a visible effort the lioness re-focused on her unwilling companion. "Say..... Amalthea. Do you have anyone... Well what I mean is are you looking for someone to protect you?"

Amalthea got her answer shortly before spitting out what she was. Nko was clearly aware of the different ranks and her own place within them. Her silence following the revelation made Amalthea even more nervous, she didn't know what to exactly to expect. She watched as Nko's mind reeled and ultimately came back to her.
"I- wha-"
She bit her lip, it was an unusual question. But not really?
"I'm always willing- always looking for someone who needs my help," she murmured anxiously. Did Nko need her to do something now?

Nko purred. That was the proper attitude in her mind for a low class lion. "Ah I see. Well then," she sounded like she was bestowing a favor on the other. "When my initiation is completed I will be joining the ranks of the guards. I may have a task or two for you to do."
"Do see that you stop by and ask hm? I want to be sure all lions of this pride are looked after." She smiled at the other, thought it wasn't a very friendly one. Nko was calculating. How could she use this lioness to gather others behind her.

Amalthea listened carefully, taking in all the subtleties of the conversation and the way Nko's behavior. She was willing to help her, that was a good thing, she could take a superior attitude and not want anything to do with her unless she wanted someone to be mean to. But that was not to say she wouldn't do some of that eventually, too.
She just had to keep her perspective positive on this.
"I will," she nodded, offering the best smile she could but it was rather awkward, "Thank you."

"Oh good. I'm so glad to hear that." Nko was sure she'd made a conquest with this lioness. Her first one since rejoining the pride. Now all she had to do was spread the word about how good Nko was. "Also, if you have a problem you can bring it to me." She was doing her best to appear helpful and caring towards the other.
"I do apologize for interrupting your walk Amalthea. Do not let me hold you up any further." The sun had fully set by now. She sat down to watch the other. Would she leave or stay?

"It's no problem," Amalthea said automatically when Nko apologized, surprising herself a little bit. She never tried to think of it as a problem, being called away from something to chat or help.. it was her job. However anxious all of this made her sometimes..
She looked back at Nko when she sat now, seeing her opportunity to get away now. It was awkward but almost everything was for Amalthea, so she nodded to her.
"Thank you, miss," she said, "Have a good night."
It would probably be an enjoyable night for the lions being welcomed back, and most anybody who was very social. But Amalthea was still worrying about it. But with that, she turned to make her getaway.

Her tail wrapped around her paws as she watched the other walk away. It was clear to Nko that Amalthea was not the lioness for her. Still, it was her first interaction with a slave since her rejoining. She would have to get better with them, if she wanted her own following.
(I think we're done here, if you want to do a last post.)
