Sandalwood City was a good two day drive away, if you didn't drive all night and all day, but luckily Nyx had filed the paper work for leave to take a trip with her partner. This was no vacation, however; This trip was being undertaken for science!
Nyx had explained, before they left, that she was looking for Gombalypsious, a tall, leafy, purple plant with a victribell shaped flower and a little mushroom-shaped stigma and stamen inside.
They had reached Sandalwood City, finally, with nothing eventful happening in the meantime. Now it was time for them to head out into the vast forest.
The little scientist was clad in a beige outfit complete with pants, long sleeve shirt, high rubber boots, and a wide-brimmed round top hat instead of her normal pair of goggles. She looked not unlike a bug-catcher. Nyx shouldered a fairly large pack.
"Ready?"

Scientific reasons or not, it was good to actually get AWAY from HQ and the stifiling surroundings of the desert; being amongst trees and grass was a wonderful thing.
Dressed in a pair of loose camo pants, a plain T-shirt, rubber boots similar to what Nyx was wearing and her usual bandana, Jen was ready to go mucking around for the plant her partner needed. She, too, shouldered a large pack.
Heck, she had even downloaded a picture of said flower...plant...thing into her pokedex. The name of it sounded like scentific-blablab.
"Heck yah, Im ready!" Jen pumped a fist into the air. "Lets go digging in the dirt!"

"Alright." Nyx didn't have any of her pokemon out. They'd just get in the way and a few of them would probably end up eating the plant when they found it.
"Its going to be pretty far in, between the mountains and Elemi Lake." The plant was fairly rare, but also not usually considered useful for anything, so there was no market for Nyx to purchase one from. "This should be fun." Nyx smiled as they started to make their way into the forest. There was a sort of path, of course, since people tended to like to make trips down to the lake, so travel would be fairly smooth for the most part, at least until they had to leave the path.
The weather was warm without being hot, and there was a nice breeze that made the whole idea of walking through the forest enjoyable. Nyx even whistled a little as she walked along the path.

Unlike Nyx, Jen did have one pokemon out; the only one of her team that oh-so bluntly refused to stay in his container unless it was deemed absolutely needed.
And that pokemon was currently clinging to the top of Jen's pack while observing his new surroundings with a great deal of interest.
"Pika pika!"
"Yeah, it is exciting, aint it?" Jen tossed a grin at her pikachu as they trudged along. Overhead, a few wild Pidgeys let out several coos as they broke free from the tree tops around them. The scenery around them cried of wild, untamed nature and Jen was soaking up every second of it with zeal.
"So Nyx. What did you want this flower for? Some of the scientists said it cant be used for anything."

Nyx's face scrunched up with displeasure. "Pft. No no, its useful. It can either be used as something, or as a bridge with which to make something. I am not entirely certain, but its worth looking in to. Nothing is useless." She did not hold most of her colleagues in very high regards, especially since they had closed off the possibility of something having a use. The plant was useless as of right now, but Nyx was sure it could at least be used as a cooking seasoning.

"Thats true, those are wise words my friend."
The same statement often went towards pokemon too. Why, Jen was pleased to say, despite his pacifist nature, Cinaed was turning out to be a strong little pokemon. Don as well.
"Pika pika!" Huh?
A look around at the happy sound forced Jen to look forward and up: Aeon had scampered on ahead a-ways and was now munching on some wild sweet berries. From the way he was stuffing them into his mouth, they were obviously delicious too. He did stop though when the two Rocket passed by under his perch and jumped down to land on the top of Jen's pack.
A ring of red juice decorated the outside of his mouth.
"Pikachu?"
"Well...." As Aeon cleaned himself off, Jen let out an echo of Nyxs' thoughts; more of a spot of humor then intentional. "For all we know, this flower is the mythical cure-all for poisons or whatnot. Hell, it could probably even be used in pokemon or human food if it falls to that."

"My thoughts exactly." Nyx would have found Aeon adorable, except that he was a non-Tesla pikachu... At least she had gotten over flailing or freezing up when he was around.
Before long, the lake came into view on the horizon. The sun, barely visible through the thick treetops, was low in the sky, but hadn't quite reached dusk yet. Nyx was somewhat quiet for much of the walk; It was enough just to enjoy the surroundings, on top of keeping her eye out for that plant.

Jen had been following along behind Nyx, also taking in the surroundings of the area. She wasnt really keeping a sharp eye out though; everytime she tried looking for something, she enever could find it. So maybe if she spaced out a bit, she'd be able to see it?
As the lake came into view and the sun started to drift further down below the horizen, Jen reached out and tapped her partner on the shoulder. "Hey Nyx, maybe we should find a clear spot by the water and set up camp? We're not gunna be able to find said plant when it's dark out."
At that moment, Aeon's stomach let out a loud growl and he let out a tiny whine.
Jen laughed. "Not to mention I think we could use some food in our bellies. What do ya say?"

"You're right... I didn't bring my night-vision goggles..." Nyx spoke slowly, as if thinking at the same time, and looked around. No, it wasn't there. It wouldn't be, they were on the wrong side of the lake. Sometimes plants were very picky about where and when they grew.
Pretty soon they cleared the trees and came out into the open air at the side of the lake. Plenty of room for camping.
"Do we want the tent or just sleeping bags outside? Its not supposed to rain." Nyx dropped her pack and started scouring the ground for large rocks.

The water of the lake shimmered like liquid fire in the dying embers of the setting sun, the grass was soft not to mention warm from the afternoon and the breeze carried the promise of coolness in the hours to come.
All and all, a perfect camping spot.
"Nah, I dont think we need the tent tonight." Jen tossed her own pack next to Nyx's as Aeon scampered around to gather loose twigs and brush to help clear the area a bit. "Sleeping bags should suit and besides, Im sure we'll get plenty of fair warning if the weather starts to turn."
With that, Jen got to work getting up a small campfire; creating a ring with some stones Aeon had picked up, the trainer stacked the brush neatly. "Hang on...." A hand diving into her fished out a beat-up firestarter, the very one used since her trainer days of old. Giving it a light squeeze, the grunt struck it and quickly worked the faint embers into a good-sized fire.
"Hey Nyx, what did you wanna make for food tonight? I have some stuff brought from base. Or, if you really wanna get into the camping spirit, we could see if there's any fish in the lake."

"Its too late for fishing, I think." Nyx pulled two logs over to the campfire, one on each side, for seats. She then sat on one of the seats and released some of her pokemon.
Langley flew over and took a perch on one of the nearby trees and began preening himself. Some time between Nyx's first training session with Jen and then, the pidgeotto, who was plain in all regards, evolved into pidgeot. This time his evolution had not been fueled by an angry tiff between himself and a certain turtle, but simply because it had been time.
Newton was released from his pokeball as well, but the Drifblim seemed content to lean up against the log next to Nyx and nap.
Before too long, Nyx had taken whatever supplies Jen gave to her and cooked up something tasty.
Deeper in the forest, something caught a whiff of food. It nudged a larger something and headed towards the human's camp.

With a sigh, the grunt flopped down on a log and stared into the dancing flames as some of her own pokemon took to their new surroundings with zeal.
Aeon had eaten his fill and, like Newton, was curled up on the log to sleep off a full stomach. In the branches around them, make visable only by the gleam of eyes in the firelight, was Yamir. Perched with his talons digging into the soft wood, he was like a silent shadow of protection over the campsite.
Taking a sip of water from the canteen, Jen leaned back a bit to stare up at the sky. "Ya know...This is really bringing back some good memories of my years as a trainer." She grinned. "Makes me realize how much I miss camping outside."

When nudged, the larger shadow stirred and lifted a heavy bulk of muscle to lumber after the smaller shadow. While, it too, smelled the scent of food; the larger being was much more cautious of the thought of humans.
And the fact it was dark out. Which made it somewhat lethergic .

"A trainer, huh? Blegh. Camping is fine like... once a year." Nyx smacked some bug that landed on her arm. "Give me nice clean labs any day of the year. Not that this isn't fun. I just wouldn't want to do this every single day. Honestly, who just lets children run all over the country alone?" Nyx sighed and skewered some Great Marshmellows on a stick she peeled the bark from. The sugary stick was held over the fire until it caught flame, at which point Nyx blew it out and stuck it right back.

The little something peeked out from the forest's edge. "Chii..." It whispered to the larger thing. They'd wait until the humans were asleep and rummage through their stuff.

"We weren't alone!" Jen stared at her best friend with a look that read: "As if!". "We had our pokemon, not to mention there were plenty of other trainers wandering around."
Reaching out, Jen gently stroked Aeon a few times as he dozed on while she watched Nyx roast marshmellows over the fire. The white gunk never really appealed to Jen...now hot dogs over an open fire? Yummy! THAT was camp food.
At the thought, Jen stretched and yawned before glancing skyward again before jumping to her feet. "Alright, Im gunna catch a few early winks before you drag me out of bed tomorrow. Make sure to soak the embers before you knock off too." With a grin, she wandered over to her sleeping bag to wiggle inside. She was asleep within a few moments with Aeon following suit a few moments later in the arms of his trainer. Above, Yamir was in a light doze with his head hanging infront of his chest.

The larger shadow nodded as it watched one human climb into those large bags with a pikachu. But one eye was on the larger pokemon in the trees above them.
They would have to be careful not to wake them.

Shortly after Jen crawled into her sleeping bag, Nyx poured some lake water over the fire and slumped off to her own. There was work to do in the morning.
Newton woke up long enough to float over and fall back to sleep next to his trainer.

This was it, they were asleep! The little shadow tip toed out of the forest and over to the human's bags. Two little vines snaked out from the bulbs around its neck and started rummaging through looking for yummy things.
