Now that the frenzy of Trine's recent events, Pazzult found himself going back into a random lull. The life of a Candidate was not a hard one but he had taken to keeping up his craft in the Weaver's area. Beyond that, he just went through his day with his routine and was happy for it. It was now 7th day and a rare gather was going on in Malvren. Nothing fancy but many of the Master Crafters had made the journey to the Hold to peddle their wares.
Amused, Pazzult had taken to the coastline to relax and decide what he was going to do next. There would be another clutch within the next Turn. He had hopes of Impressing, after all, he had a few Turns to go before he aged out. Even if he never Impressed, he had the idea of maybe going for his Journeymanship and perhaps staying on to be one of Malvren's Weavers.
So caught up in his thoughts and fine day that he failed to see the bronze flit or the girl who followed it.

Wykla was infuriated to say the least. She had been assigned extra chores by the Weyrwoman for skipping out on too many of her assigned chores. Now she was trying to figure out who the snitch had been. She huffed and tossed her black hair over her shoulder; her task masters had kept a strict eye on her, so Wykla hadn't been able to slip off to the gather early.
Now that her chores were dully done, the young girl had taken to the beach to walk off some of her irritation. Gathers were meant to be enjoyed after all. Her furious steps were taking her further down the beach than she'd expected.
Boreal circled over his mistress with cheeps and trills trying to cheer her up, or maybe calm her down. She was in a right mood from the way she was walking. He was the first to notice a boy ahead of them and his calls became sharper to warn her.

Pazzult looked up at a light trilling sound. He could see a youngish looking girl and a brown? Bronze flit coming his way? He couldn't tell just yet but the size of the flit was a giveaway that his egg he had hidden in his bed covers just a day or two away from hatching judging by the hardness of its shell. He wondered if he should stand or stay sitting. Girls from the Weyr were strange about manners. He didn't want to offend her but he didn't want her to think he didn't respect her either.
Finally, he settled for a friendly wave. He was surprised she hadn't caught the nearest caravan or dragon rider to the Gather. Maybe she wasn't feeling good. Pazzult hoped she wasn't sick or anything.

With a start the girl comes to with the bronze's prodding. She hadn't expected anyone to be here with a gather going on. The look on her face is surprise and hesitation. Wykla wasn't sure the boy wanted company if he was out here by himself.
With his friendly wave, she decides to go. If he really wanted to be alone, then he could always say so. She felt Boreal land on her shoulder as she walked over to him. "Hullo. What are you doing out here?"
Boreal settled on his girl's shoulder and peered curiously at the boy. Perhaps he would make his mistress happy again. It was worth a try after all.

The girl seemed friendly enough and Pazz now realized it was a bronze on her shoulder. How nice! Youngish, maybe the same age as his youngest sister, Arili. She was smallish but had a tough look on her face. Wondering what was wrong, he was about to ask when she questioned him first.
"That is a good question. I haven't quite figured it out yet myself. I know on Gather Day, I should be out and about enjoying the sights but I felt like being here. And thinking," Pazzult answered honestly. Look at her with a quizzical face, he returned the favor. "And you? I would think that you would be out enjoying the sights, yes?"

Wykla considered the boy before her. He was definitely older than her, and taller. She tosses her hair back over her shoulder defiantly. Darn being short anyhow! She catches herself almost scowling at him and tries to school her face into a more pleasant expression. After all it wasn't he fault for her extra chores OR being taller.
She dug her foot down into the sand. "Maybe it's just not the day for a Gather for us." A huff and a wrinkle crosses her brow before she shrugs. "I came out to calm down so I could enjoy the Gather. My chores kept me away."

He wondered why she looked so mad and then she mentioned chores. Ah yes. Chores could be a pain when one had plans for the day. Patting the sand next to him, he scooted over a little bit in case she wanted to sit. The sea was relatively calm but still broke small waves on the shore.
"No, maybe it's a day for making friends. Or at least, meeting new people." Pazzult nodded and then continued. "Yeah, no good to be in a snit. Then you miss all the fun stuff. Which chores did you have to finish up?"

She blinked a bit in surprise when he scooted over and offered her a place to sit. I guess he doesn't mind company even if he is thinking. It'd be rude to decline.. Wykla glanced at the gentle sea, then plunked herself down on the sand. Her legs tucked up close to her body and she rest her chin on her knees. It was almost soothing to sit there and listen to the water.
Her eyes flick towards him a couple times as he talked. "I dunno. I'm Wykla. What's your name? You from around here?" She gives a long sigh. "Yeah, that's why I came walking out this way. With the Gather I didn't think anyone would be here. I was given mucking and laundry on top of everything else."
Boreal half flutters his wings when she sits down suddenly, then trills in her ear.

"My name is Pazzult. And nope, definitely not from around here. I'm from Arcon Hold as is my entire family." He replied good naturedly. He wondered, just then, what his family was up to and if they missed him as much as he missed them from time to time. Life in the weyr was certainly exciting but only home could feel like, well, home.
He watched the bronze hovering around the girl and wondered if it were possible to replicate that color for threads. Pazz listened to her speak for a moment then nodded in agreement. "Ouch. Nasty bit of luck there. I had the joy of mucking for like a week straight when I got here. Guess they wanted to break me in or something."

"Nice to meet you Pazzult and welcome to the Weyr." She gives him an odd little smile. "Do you miss your family much? Do you think about returning to them? What did you do before you came here?" She was curious. It wasn't often she got a chance to chat with a non-brat and find out what he did.
Wykla gives a sigh. "Indeed. I can't do anything right in the kitchens so that only left mucking for me. Then of course after that obviously comes laundry. Well if I'm dirty already I might as well clean laundry after I'm clean." Another sigh as she hangs her head. Looking up she gives a sympathetic grin. "Wanted to make sure you could handle dragon poo before getting involved with one I bet." She laughed softly to make it joke. "So why are You out here and not at the Gather either?"

"Thank you. And before I came here, I was a Weaver. In fact, all my family is made up of weavers, tanners, tailors, pretty much anything you might wear we make." Pazzult told her without modesty. He snagged a nearby rock and tried to skip it across the water. It managed two bounces before promptly sinking.
He watched her hang her head and then laugh. He thought about it and then laughed himself. "Maybe so. I know I got into a muck fight when a girl, Tiepet. She impressed last clutch to a little green named Filanth."
Again she asked him why he was out watching the waves instead of being at the Gather. Funny, Pazzult would have thought himself the first to run and enjoy the excitement. Maybe there were deeper thoughts. Or not. "Simple. No marks. No wares to sell. And I'm not very good at begging for sweets."

"Weaver, hu. I guess that's neat. You any good at it?" She watches him skip the rock. Though she helped with laundry occasionally she didn't know much about making clothes. "What about hair pieces?" Her head tilts.
Wykla makes a face. "Ewwwww. You must have been really dirty afterwords. I'm glad I didn't have anyone to get into a muck fight with. My hair would have taken forever to get clean." She wrinkles her nose at the thought. "And the smell. They didn't make you go clean off in the lake first?" She smiled when he mentioned his friend Impressing. "Good for her. I had a friend Impress a green too. Ralae to Zabreth."
"You know we do get a small allowance for Gathers right?" She flicks a small bug off that tries to crawl up her leg. "If it was a matter of marks none of the brats would ever have a reason to go to the Gather."

"I would probably be tossed out on my ear if I wasn't. I did earn my Apprenticeship after all." Pazzult laughed at this. Sure there was the odd family member who went into another craft but they could at least mend their own clothes! He tapped the side of his leg and nodded. "Oh sure. My younger sister Arili loves hair bands and necklaces and things like that. Just get me a good piece of fabric and I could make something for you."
He loved working with fabric and cloth. It was the creating of new patterns where his specialty lay. If he did a simple band with leather ties then it would grow with her. "I got lucky, there was no one in the bathing pool when I arrived. But a dip in the lake is not for me. I really can't swim. Oh, that must have been really nice for her."
When she mentioned that they got some money for the Gather, he shrugged. "Oh well. Maybe next time."

She gave a soft giggle and realized her mood has improved with talking to this boy. It seemed by talking, she was able to get her mind off of things. Maybe next time she was mad she'd come find him. "Well they wont toss you out here for not learning to weave. I bet the laundresses love you for chores." Wykla blinked and looked at him in surprise. "Really? You could? You would?"
She nodded. "It was. She's been really nice to me. And her dragon has talked to me once too!" She was rather proud of that fact. A grin lights up her face, "I'm sure everyone else was happy to not be there either. Ya know it isn't that hard to swim. I could try to help you. If you ever wanted to learn I mean."
A slight blush crossed her cheeks with the offer. At just that point Boreal decided to hop down from her shoulder and went running across the sand. He was chasing the bug that Wykla had flicked off awhile ago. She clapped her hands over her mouth to keep from laughing as the bronze running across the sands.
"I'll show you next time so you'll know where to get it." She gave a smile.

"I don't know, I might be shunned for a little bit. When I say everyone in my family is a weaver, tanner, dyer, I mean EVERYONE. Malvren wouldn't toss me out but they might." Pazzult blinked at her pleasant change in nature. "Sure, why not?"
"Her dragon talked to you? Wow! That is pretty cool, what did the dragon sound like? What's her name or his name?" Pazzult asked excitedly. When she mentioned helping him learn how to swim, he shrugged. "I guess I should get around to it. And that would be nice to go spend half a mark or whatever they give us."
