User ImageThe air was fresh and crisp. The night before a rain had fallen to coat the area along the river. The air would begin to feel more humid as the sun rose into the sky promising a hot day. The summer was proving to be quite hot to the young stallion that began his travels just before the long hot days. The rain had added onto the river causing it to rise and brush farther up the banks. Though the fish in the river did not seem to mind the extra space others might find the additional water to be more unpleasant.

Not an unseen foe but a foe indeed, Zheadeos stared at his unreasonable fear, the river. He was told by a hardheaded Mare that it was foolish that at his size he was so fearful of the water, he supposed she was right it was most assuredly a foolish fear for her had never slipped in the river as he feared his cloven hooves would slip on the pebbles. Even as a foal on the river bank he hadn’t had such a problem. Today he was resigned to overcome this fear, at least he told himself he would, and he even reasoned that it would be the best to do so for it would cool him in the humid heat.

One hoof after another, he repeated to himself as he left the shaded grove where he’d slept the night prior. Perhaps good would come of visiting the river on a humid day, others would be drawn to the cool water. He nodded to himself pushing down the foolish fear that was trying to arise as he walked toward the river. He could do this and he’d enjoy it, even if he did fall he’d be too big to be easily swept away in shallow part of the river, he would be fine.

Zuleika had escaped.

Her mother had gone off in an attempt to find them some food for a midday meal, and the second her back was turned the filly had made a break for it. She did not particularly like sitting and doing nothing - hence why her mother, Arianrhod, tended never to let her daughter out of her sight - but this time she had been distracted and not paying much attention.

And so, here she was, at the edge of the riverbank. Zuleika dipped her nose into the cool, rapidly moving stream of water and then hastily skittered backwards, flicking her now damp head from side to side. It was cold, colder than she expected, and Zuleika frowned, thoroughly put out. That certainly swayed her notion of going for a swim.

A movement to her left caught her attention, and Zuleika turned, her eyes falling on the figure of a large, light stallion. He seemed to be a little nervous about something, and kept glancing with anxious eyes to the river and back. Zuleika trotted over to him.

"What're you doing?" she asked curiously.

Purely foolish, folly really his fear.

However the mental reminder was not doing all too much to quit the unrealistic fear. Zheadeos was certain that he'd go through with his mission, even be it self made, and he could proudly prove the stubborn mare wrong, Ciro would not have to aid him in crossing the river again either. Thinking of how he hoped to aid Ciro made him smile, she deserved to see her children again and he'd succeed in becoming a friend. He was sure of that however he was not so caught up in thought to miss the movement to the right that was headed toward him.

Mere moments before the filly's question emerged Zhea turned to find a dark foal. He frowned softly thinking of how to answer her question. "I was... well... er... I was going to the river." Surely she didn't need to know he was fearful of the river's pebbled bed. He the smiled a bit seeing her single horn, she was part Uni. He remember his first meeting with an Uni, he'd called the horn an antler. He then glanced about to see if her parents were near, and frowned again softly when he saw they weren't to be seen.

Completely forgetting about his plan to enter the river he decided to focus on the filly. "That's a pretty horn you have." She had a multi-colored mane like he had though her's was different colors then his own. He thought again about her parent and remembered how he himself had slipped off as a foal from his parents not long ago. "What has brought you to the river today?"
