Kya was as happy as ever her new mate and joined the pack and she was settling in just fine. There was only one thing that she felt was missing now pups. Kya was a little worried living in a pack that was so centered around family she was concerned that she would never be able to have pups like everyone else. After all two females couldn't create pups on their own.
Kya had wondered off pack lands a little as she thought it was a little strange for her to be away from the pack in her thoughts. She didn't have any direction in mind, she was just wondering.
Hataki, while he didn't have a place to return to, was also wandering. He hadn't been in this area before, so he didn't know just how close he was to a pack's lands. Not that he cared, even. Pft. On the contrary: he invited a challenge, a cruel comment, to spark his tempter and bring out the very worst in him.
That was his weakness. He almost begged others to fight with him so he could yell at them in return. An excuse would be that it helped get stress off his shoulders, that arguing and fighting made him much calmer. But really, he just loved arguing for the sake of arguing. Even if there wasn't really anything to fight over, he instigated like no other.
So when he spotted a pretty purple wild dog wandering around in a field not too far away, Hataki grinned and loped towards her, wondering what would happen in this encounter.
Kya could smell the other wild dog before she saw him or even heard him. She was slightly nervous when she saw how quickly he was moving towards her the brightly colored wild dog duck down a little. Kya wasn't from a home that would injure anyone and the wild dog didn't have much fight in her.
"Hello" she called out hoping that if she was friendly it would slow him down. She was still close enough to the pack that if she yelped out someone should hear her. It would be sad for Kya to lose her life now that she just found her mate.
"Good afternoon," Hataki greeted amiably. Indeed, he did slow down as he got closer to the female. Recently he hadn't met anyone particularly interesting to him, so part of him was hoping that this female would yield different results.
"I'm Hataki, and who, may I ask, are you?" He began by giving a friendly front, hoping that even if they didn't end up doing his most favorite thing--which was arguing, of course--he might as well make a friend.
He supposed with a mental sigh.
His mother and father hadn't raised him to be impolite to everyone, even though he tried his hardest most times.
Kya smiled, satisfied that this male wild dog was friendly enough she dropped her defenses. She loosened the way she was standing and dropped to a seated position. "My name is Kya" she greeted him, and smiled a large grin. Kya was all about making friends and she figured this male would make as good of a friend as anyone else.
"It is very nice to meet you." she told him "Are you from around her." Kya knew from his scent that the wild dog was not from her pack, the pack was always growing but she knew the scents that came from her home, after all half of them were practically related to her.
"I suppose you could say that," he replied with a charming grin. "I didn't grow up here, if that's what you meant. But I've been living around this area for a while now, so yeah, I'm from around here."
She smelled different, like there were other wild dogs' scents on her. She must be from a pack. He tried to not wrinkle his nose at the thought. Packs, official with more members than just family, had always rubbed him the wrong way. Hataki knew that he would never join one, no matter how many other wild dogs had found homes in them. His siblings were probably part of packs too, by now.
"Hmm not only did I grow up around her ebut I have lived here my whole life. I am from a pack. I am sure that you can smell that though." she said a grin on her face. Kya was very proud of her heritage of her home and her life. "I take it that you have never lived in a pack. You seem more like a wonderer to me." she told him.
Kya was interested about the males life, it wasn't often she got to listen to an outsiders stories, hear what the real desert was like. Though recently she had gotten to know a little more her mate who had joined the pack was from the outside, she had her fair share of stories.
He nodded. "Pack life never appealed to me, to be honest. I can't stand living in the same area with so many other bodies so close by. Give me an empty den and an empty area, and I'm the happiest you'll find me," Hataki chuckled, being quite honest for meeting someone just a few moments ago.
"I have nine other siblings. Living in one area was tough," he said by way of explanation.
The grey wild dog shook his head and sat down a few feet across from her. Since they were talking, he might as well get comfortable.
"Do you like pack life?"
Kya smiled a big family just like her, "I am one of eleven, I understand the pain of a large den. Mine growing up had to be the loudest fullest den in the whole pack, but in the long run, I wouldn't trade it for the world though. I love my pack, in fact recently I found my mate and brought her into the pack as well."
Kya paused she had allowed the truth of her sexuality to slip she waited for a response from the male. She knew within her own pack she was more then accepted for who she was but she wondered how he would respond, would it bother him, would he chase her away? She really didn't know how he would repsond. She sat fidgetting a little waiting for his response to ocme her way.

Her? Hataki had never met a...female and female who called themselves mates, before. It took him a minute to understand what that meant, and then he decided that it wasn't worth the trouble to make a huge uproar about. You love who you love, or you mate with whoever you want. He didn't even have a mate, so he couldn't really talk anyway.
He gave a mental shrug.
"I'm glad that it worked out for you, then, and your mate," he said finally, noticing how nervous she seemed about the topic. He hoped his comment alleviated her worry, though he wasn't sure why he cared so much.
Kya stopped her fidgetting her once the male had reponded. He wasn't disgusted with her, he wasn't going to tr to hurt her, he wasn't mean. It was a releif. "Yes yes things are going well for us, the only problem with my mate is well the lack of pups." she said it with a smile but her voice was heavy with sadness.
"My pack is all about family, and well lets face it two females can't have pups." she giggled as she said it. She wasn't sure why she was spilling this to the male that she jsut met but it was what was on her mind, and he had ears.
Ah. If you had two wild dogs of the same gender, pups would never come. That was a problem when both parents wanted said pups. He knew she was upset by it; anyone could hear the emotion in her voice.
"So, what, are you looking for a surrogate Daddy in your pack or something? Is that even allowed?" If her pack accepted them as mates, then the surrogate thing should be allowed without question, he assumed.
Kya smiled she loved talking about her home, sher was a little nervous that she was boring the male dog, but he was asking and she felt she should let him now all that she could. It helped to get it off her chess, it helped her think through all the problems that had been whirling around in her head.
"My pack is very excepting of me and the fact that I need a surrogate. However I run into the problem that most of the wild dogs in my pack are some how related to me. Everyone has had to leave the pack and bring a mate back with them. Its a difficult situation really." she sighed. "Perhaps I wont have pups... maybe it isn't in my future."
He was crazy for even thinking about it. No, he was crazy for asking more questions and hearing answers that he could really care less about. But no, he had to continue the conversation and get to this point: where he felt obligated to fix her problem. By getting her pregnant.
He was disgusted with himself.
Hataki shook his head. "If you come from a big family, it's impossible not to have pups. I don't want them, but I know that I'll end up having some, one day, anyway." He paused, trying to figure out how he would...ask. "So are you...what, looking for someone outside the pack, then, like you did when you left to find your mate? Someone to give you pups, I mean." He almost blushed. Almost.
Kya hadn't seen where the males thoughts were going, she had thought she was just talking her problems that had been plauging her. "I uh I." Kya was without words she didn't know what to say. She supposed she was looking for someone to help her to have pups but she hadn't expected to find someone like him right away.
"I uh I guess I am." she said a smile on her face, Kya was suddenly bashfull she rarely was ever bashful being one of so many pups brought her to the point of being loud and outgoing, you had to be if you wanted to be heard. "Were you offering?" she finally asked, she knew that he was but she needed him to say it.
There she had it: Kya finally hit upon his very subtle offer. He thought about it for a moment. Yes, it was an offer. He was really going to do this, or try to assist a couple of females with their problem. He'd regret this later, of course.
"Yes, but on a few conditions," he began, slowly, looking her in the eye as he spoke. "One: I'm not joining your pack, under any circumstances. After you have the pups, or even before, I'm continuing my wandering. Two: if I want, I can take a pup or two with me, depending on how many we have. Three: I may come back to see them when they've grown up a bit. If I do, I'll see them. You can't hide them from me, especially since I'm their father." He paused. "That's all I can think of right now, but if I think of anything else, I'll tell you."
He was signing his baby-making ability away, for this female, for a chance of pups.
Kya smiled, although she didn't like the idea of some of her cubs going away from her, but she wasn;'t going to say no not know. All of his other conditions were resonable, so she wasn't going to say no not now. "Ok, that sounds fair." she smiled lightly. She was a little nervous about the actual logistics of making the pups but she was ready.
"I guess just name when and were." she said tyring to sound light and care free.
"Good." He nodded with finality. Hataki glanced at the sun and decided the plan. It was still early out today, not even late after noon yet. "We'll meet here after dark." And...y'know. Continue with their agreement.
If she didn't know, then he did. He was a male, after all, and males just knew these kinds of things. With that, he nodded to her, gave her the tiniest of smiles (for reassurance, of course), and turned to go on his way. He would see her tonight.
