This morning, when I was supposed to be doing something in first period, my mind wandered off to the thought of the old drama teacher/art teacher/yearbook director. She was the "Cosmic Art Godess"(seriously, her students concidered that her title) and was a total dead-head. She was the best damn teacher ever, but she decided to go other places, following her whim, and the schools drama department, among other things, ceased. Anyway, she was and is a big influence to me; wise, understanding, and...a Dead-Head!!! Thus, my topic:

Have you met someone who you thought "hey, he/she is a cool hippie" or thought something of that nature about a person?

oh yes definitely. where i used to live in hebden bridge, west yorkshire there were a lot of the beautiful ppl from the 60's raising their children and grandchildren.there are several unique and interesting hippies who influence what makes Ankaret.teachers can be really good or utterly horrible. havent had a hippie teacher yet unless you count home schooling with my mom which is really very different. i think it's great the way we take a piece of our mentors with us.they move on but stay with us at the same time. cool. don't u think?

Yeah, you learn so much from people that you get forced to be with for a good, long while. They kind of grow on you, just as much as you grow on them. I've managed to live by the idea that you can learn from everyone. From the most mundane to the most wild and adventurous, you can learn lessons in life.

At the charter school I went to, there was totally this awesome "hippy" teacher. She taught awesome classes like Paranormal, World Religions and Native Culture.

She had a waaaay big influence on the way I think. Before I took her classes I was mostly closed off of things that couldn't be explained by science. She definitely influenced me to think outside of my regular thinking.

Yeah... hippy teachers rock

Wish I would've had the opportunity to go to a decent charter school. smile

Two teachers stand out in my mind:
In high school, there was a very overworked woman who ran JV & Varsity Lacrosse for both genders as well as Yearbook, the student newspaper, History in Film, Creative Writing, and a few English classes. She loved tie-dye as much as me and we would talk for hours about interesting ideas for fiction while I helped correct articles (I was in Publications as a senior). She fought to be allowed to assign Harry Potter as reading for her freshman "basic" (that's one step above special education) English class. She won, and later said she'd never seen any class read so much so quickly. She taught us about censorship and stood behind us when the staff of the student newspaper fought the administration for creative control of the paper. Since we were funding ourselves through ad sales, we eventually won. smile

In college, my Composition prof went by the name Zim (short for Zimmerman, his last name), and delved into every sort of literature imaginable, from Phyllis Wheatley to Walt Whitman, and encouraged us to use our imaginations rather than write what we thought he wanted to read. He referred to me as "bohemian" and "anything but bourgois" often and with great respect and affection. He was amazing. He asked us to write about the fragility and tenacity of life after watching videos of preemies in the NICU and athletes in their prime. I miss this guy.

My art teacher doesnt like hippies crying

Anywho...I think I know someone who's parents used to be hippies. We used their old "hippie" van last year during homecoming because our class's theme was "the 50's-70's" biggrin

Definately. This guy I met, Tony, made a huge impact on my life. He's always meeting new people and influencing a million lives a day. He's the most spontaneous, adventurous, influential person I've met...plus he's a god on guitar.

My parents.
But when I was a kid I rebelled a bit against their hip way, which I think influenced them to turn into part Yuppies, which sucks now that I look back on it. I can also blame my little sister for helping me turn my parents into yuppies.

They're recovering from their case of Yuppie-dom only now that I am becoming more interested in spirituality, travelling, poetry, environment, cultural politics and art.

They never gave up their sweet leaf though.

My parents and I now have a joke about turning my little sister into a hippy, which could be kinda hard since she obsessively shops at H&M and Hollister.

Yuppies...people I can hardly stand. I mean, come on! They're the people that make tourist season miserable for me. Big ol' R.V.s plowing through town at fifty miles an hour, stopping in the road to get "a family shot", messing with the bears...grr... mad

I wish I had hippie teachers.

I did meet a friend last year when I moved to a new school. She was a senior and since I was freshman it was really cool that she was friends with me. My lunch was the one that had mostly seniors and she let me sit at her table.
She got me interested in the hippie music. Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, all that good stuff. 3nodding She's going off to university now to be a writer. I wish her the best.

I guess, all in all, my brother. He's not a hippie. Never WAS a hippie. But he got me to think outside the box. And expand my way of thinkin, and listen to some groovy hip bands like The Beatles wink

Dude I live in NY, and one time I visited Conventry, which is right outside of Cleveland, Ohio. I met this dude who I think may be homeless...maybe not, I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure he's jobless. Anyways he sits outside of this place where local bands play called the Grog Shop (hope to play there someday with my band) (I play bass). He sits out there all day, playing acoustic guitar, and singing. He also rolls joints and smokes them. The cops don't even care! He is a really cool guy, and very inspirational, not because he smokes pot all day or anything, but because he does what he loves, like play the guitar and smoke pot, all day, and he has the confidence to not care what people think of him. I find that awesome!
