Aryiola moved fluidly across the savannah, pausing to cast a glance over her shoulder to see if he was still following. To see him put a thrill through her heart. He was so strong, dangerous and unpredictable. His future had lured her, for it was so full of colour and twists and turns that she could not bear to part ways with him until he had seen through his destiny.
Even still, she knew that saying goodbye to her mother was not going to be easy. She had always babied over them, even now when they were grown up, and it might very well kill her to think of a daughter slipping away with some strange male she'd never heard of before.
But Aryiola was not a baby anymore. She'd been flirting and pairing with males since her adolescence - though her mother was not aware of such things - and she was fully-fledged in her seer abilities. It seemed only right now that she strike off on her own. Besides, it wouldn't be forever. She would be back for visits when she wasn't needed.
Drawing closer to her mother's makeshift den - for the family were a nomadic bunch - she gave a low chuff of greeting and set her paws square to wait.
Ainra emerged a moment later, drawing up into the pale morning sunshine. She had a subtle beauty to her, though it was often overlooked. Yes, she was plain, with simple markings, but she was a well-built lioness with dainty and delicate features. Her eyes, the colour of an oasis in the depths of the desert lands, were bright and youthful as always.
In the recent days she had gained a slight curve at her belly, the first signs of her pregnancy. It had amazed Aryiola that her mother could be so fertile, producing two litters and each from a single mating.
She had mated many times and had so far been saved from such a thing. Perhaps it was the sheer will of not wanting children that had kept such a thing away? Well no matter. Aryiola would only be mating with Suijin for the time-being, for he was the only male she had met worthy of fathering her cubs.
Ainra, however, seemed somewhat saddened by the nature of her cubs, for unlike her daughter, she had a wish for a life-mate and a proper family with him.
"Ary, sweetling, what's wrong?" She purred lightly, pausing as she spied the male with her. "Who is this? A friend?"

Suijin was a lion of many things, but now he was simply a lion who was proud. He had brought yet another loyal follower into his shadow, one who needed little coaxing or manipulating to see how great he truly was. The was no hiding the smirk that spread across his maw as he trailed behind Aryiola. Seers were powerful creatures and when they were all too willing to lend their assistance to him, well he couldn't deny that the idea pleased him.
Besides, the gray female before him was a beautiful lioness and he could not deny that he enjoyed the physical company she would provide for him. Pride would bristle through him when she would tell him that she had never encountered anyone like him, when she would whisper that no one else could compare.
Of course her words were no surprise to the pale faced lion, he was a creature of near perfection. He would have whatever he wanted, regardless of who might stand in his way. He was a male who prided himself on being a winner. Once, he had been proud to say he never lost a wager but times had changed. He had lost a battle but still saw himself winning the war.
Aryiola was a prize to return to his homelands, the help him rebuild and even conquer if that was what he wished.
His water blue eyes shifted from the gray lioness to her mother. "Hello ma'am," he began politely, offering her one of his most charming smiles. "My name is Suijin, I've come with your daughter to request that I may take her as my own."
Lies.

Aryiola threw Suijin a smile, admiration clearly visible in her face. He had won her in with no trouble at all, his noble ways and intriguing future more than enough to seal her to him. She loved excitement and adventure and he could offer that and far more. She was fed up with boring fortune-tellings for lions with less than average destinies. When she looked at him she saw ambition and greatness and she wanted to be a part of that.
"He speaks truth, Mother." The grey lioness turned back to glance at Ainra with a softening affection. Ainra had been a fussy, suffocating mother but she loved her all the same. She had raised them as well as she could and Aryiola had to admit that she wouldn't wish for any other up-bringing.
With a short nod, the grey female closed the gap between her mother and touched her head gently against her shoulder. "I know you will worry and that is why I wanted you to meet with him, to know that he would take care of me well."
Ainra blinked, utterly stunned. She'd not even been aware that her daughter had been seeing someone, let alone had been in a relationship so serious. Her eyes were wide but as a moment passed, her face broke into a soft smile.
Ainra had wanted nothing more in life than to find a place to belong and to find someone to love and love her in return. Yet, two flings later, she still had found no one who would want to share their life with her and so she had remained with her sister and her sister's mate and their little family group to avoid being alone. To think that her eldest daughter had found love...it filled her with some indescribable joy, though it was partnered with a sadness of knowing what this would mean.
"You..." She paused, gathering herself. "You love my daughter? You will take care of her? Make sure she is safe?"

He watched the interaction between mother and daughter closely. Was this how it was supposed to be between a mother and her daughter? He wondered what had possessed Horowai to do things so poorly? He had to stop himself from laughing aloud, he knew the answer. He was the reason that the relationship between Horowai and Aysu had fallen to pieces and he knew that well. He couldn't say he regretted it because it had given him a lovely, devoted daughter who he felt mixed emotions for.
He had lost himself in his thoughts when the tan lioness addressed him. Love was a strong word and not one that he threw around freely. In fact he had only used it for one female once and since her rejection, he never said it again. He wouldn't even lie about it.
"I care for your daughter very much," he said slowly, carefully choosing his words. He did care about Aryiola, though not quite in the way her mother believed. Still he wouldn't try to convince the lioness otherwise. Lying came easy to the dual colored male, it was practically second nature to him.
"Aryiola is in the most capable paws," he told her, holding himself proudly. "I can assure her safety," he grinned a toothy grin. "I haven't been bested yet."

Ainra nodded in agreement, leaning in to rest her head very gently against his shoulder. Her smile was genuine. She was happy to be going with him. Happy to be starting out on this new chapter in her life. "He is a good male, Mother. I have a great respect for him and you know, as well as I, that I do not say such things lightly. I have met males only who disappoint and aggravate. None have been like Suijin." And that was truth. She did respect the male and so long as she held that for him, love mattered very little.
Love made smart lions into fools. Neither of them were fools.
Then, after a moment, Aryiola stepped forwards and set her paw over her mother's. "We will be happy, Mother. I can assure you of that. We do not go too far and I will be back to visit from time to time. You will let me know if you move on, yes?"
Aryiola seemed satisfied by his response and she visibly seemed to relax, breakign out into a wide smile. "My daughter is grown up! My baby is a baby no more. It breaks my heart but makes me proud at the very same time."
She looked between them. "It's clear to me that you two are a fine match indeed!" She was, of course, a romantic at heart. "You take care of one another."
She looked back at her daughter and nodded. "A visit every now and then would be appreciated. You may be grown up but you'll always be my little Aryiola. Remember that, okay? I won't move on until I've told you where I am headed. I promise." And, without warning, she lunged forwards and gave her daughter a tight embrace. "Oh how I love you, sweet daughter." And only when Aryiola started to struggle to breathe did she let go and take a shaky step back. Her eyes were glazed over with tears.
"When...when are you planning to leave?"

Suijin stood proudly as Ariyola praised him. It was all information he already knew, things many had told him but still, a certain sense of pride swelled within him at her words. He felt another kind of pride fill him when she answered her mother carefully. He knew that he had picked a smart one to join the ranks of his followers, she spoke nothing of love and for that he was glad.
Love was an emotion for fools.
Suijin was a master at playing a fool but he had never been one, nor would he ever become one.
"If you ever wish to visit, you are welcome to," he offered so she would have further knowledge that he would care for her daughter. "My future is bright but even brighter with her by my side." A glimmer of a smirk danced across his maw before fading. He didn't want Ainra to know of his darker colors just yet. He was a master of disguise and intended on keeping it as such.
"We plan to leave tomorrow, the trip is not far but there are many I wish to introduce her to."

"That's right, Mother. Don't worry." Aryiola had always been irritated by her mothers fussing but she loved her all the same and it did please her to think they would stay in contact. Besides, someday soon, she might be a grandmother and have grandcubs to dote upon. Aryiola could never deny her that.
"The world is not so big that we can't see each other frequently." And she gave Suijin a smile at his words. "We have such a future together, Mother. I don't think I could be happier." And that, of course, was true.
She reached out to touch her mother's shoulder with her muzzle. "So don't fret about me, okay? This isn't a goodbye that will last forever and we'll always be family."
"Of course, of course." Ainra bobbed her head. "But I fear we should say our goodbyes now in case I change my mind and decide to keep you." It was perhaps only a half-joke.
"I think you will do well together and I would love to visit you whenever I can." She took a small step back to regard them. "I am glad, at least, that one of my children found someone they are happy with." She blinked back the tears. "I love you dear one." And she took a few steps back, gave them a shaky smile, and then moved back towards her den. She did, however, spare them a look over her shoulder before she disappeared.
(perhaps our last couple of posts can be of them moving away and having some banter about the future/cubs/visions and things?)

Suijin was respectfully quiet as the two lionesses exchanged good-byes. Briefly he wondered if this was what it was like to have a mother who seemed to care, but the thought was fleeting and he brushed it aside to rest beside the ideas of love. A thought to never be touched again, it was better that way.
When he felt like the conversation had begun to wane he turned and began to set off in the direction of his pride, shortly before Ariyola's mother did the same. He didn't glance back to see if the paint splattered female was following him, he knew she wouldn't be far from him. It had been her idea to come with him, he had merely coaxed the flicker into a flame. From this point on, she was his and he took pride in knowing that.
"For your next vision," he began, looking to her only then, "I want you to find a dark blue female by the name of Horowai. She is the mother of the daughter you helped me find. She did something unforgivable and now is the time that she must pay for her insolence." He had plans, this one had a bright future indeed.

And follow she did, her ears picking up as he spoke again. She hastened her pace so that she was walking alongside him and turned her eyes to meet his gaze. "You need ask only once, Suijin. I shall do all within my power to aid you. It may take a little time but since she has a connection to you, it should be possible to achieve without too much difficulty. It will be locating some identifiable landmark which she is close by which will be the troublesome part. I may see her face but until I can make something of her surroundings, it will be impossible to say where she is."
She purred, glad that - for once - someone was intending to use her powers to do something worthwhile instead of telling simple fortunes. The fortune-telling had been good for practise but this was different. It was thrilling. Her tail flicked and she leaned in to rub her head briefly against his shoulder.
Aryiola truly felt as if she was embarking on a great journey now. She had purpose. "I will make some attempts whilst we travel to your home." Her whiskers twitched up as she smiled. "I look forward to this future we have together. It promises the death of boredom."

"I have a general idea of where she'll be," he replied, looking ahead as the day began to end. "As long as you can provide me with some semblance of information as to her whereabouts I can fill in the blanks," he assured her, a dark grin sliding across his maw. Horowai was a proud lioness, it was likely she was still within the lands of her home pride. What she didn't know was that his own pride wasn't as far off a she might have thought or that he knew the her lands well. He hadn't spent months stalking his purple lioness without getting to know the territory.
He would find her and capture her, make her pay for her insolence. She would be punished for what she did, she was unforgivable and he would give her everything she hated. Everything she wished to avoid. It would be fun.
"Trust me, life with me will never be boring."
It was a promise.
