Dragon
Wind / Fire
Directly in the center of the peak, lay a nest, containing a single egg. The speculations of this peak being a nest for dragons were somewhat true, though the particular breed that nested there only did so once in a lifetime. And that lifetime was in dragon years. All of a sudden, the large egg began to move, scratching noises coming from within as the creature inside decided it was time to come out. After a few minutes of the scratching, a crack finally appeared in the side of the egg, quickly followed by a claw popping straight out through and making a small hole. As the claw withdrew, a yellow eye appeared in the hole, staring outwards for but an instant before it suddenly vanished, the creature having yanked back from the shock of the sun's light.
The sudden motion within the egg proved to be too much for it's precarious perch, as it tipped over backwards out of the nest and split, sending the black baby dragon within sprawling out onto the solid ground. Wiggling about on it's back for a few seconds, the creature suddenly flicked it's tail, flipping itself back up onto it's feet, and sat looking around, sniffing the air. Everything was new to him, and like any newborn, new things had to be explored. Standing up on slightly unsteady legs, the baby dragon began to walk. Or trying to at any rate, as it stumbled about for a good couple of minutes before it finally figured out how to keep it's feet underneath it. Finally having discovered the secret to successful walking, it happily roamed in circles around the area for several minutes, prancing about like a puppy. And then something caught it's attention. It was alone, and there was more outside of it's little world. It was hungry, had no idea where it's mother was, and those odd things on it's back were beginning to itch, as if he needed to stretch them.
Taking all of these things as incentive, the dragon did what toddlers do best. Acted without thinking. Taking a run towards the outside of it's little world, the dragon leapt between the pillars, and found itself caught in the wind current instantly. Thrown by the wind, he found himself out in midair, falling towards the earth with no way to stop! Until those things on his back started itching again. Not really understanding the peril it was in, the dragon only did what it thought best to stop the itch in it's wings, stretching them out to their full extent. And finding itself gliding through the air as a result! This was way better than running! The wind running past, the way he just kept right on going, it was great!
Now, some would question why this baby advanced so quickly, taking off flying after only a mere hour from it's birth. The answer is quite simple however. Dragons commonly lay their eggs and leave them, with no true intention of ever returning. A few years go by while the baby dragon develops in the egg, and then it hatches, alone in the world. Dragons also choose the most hard to reach of places to lay their eggs, and instincts are bred into them from birth to leave that place. That was all this baby had done, leaving it's place of birth and setting out on it's own life. Dragons learn at a rate most other species wouldn't believe. They had to in order to survive their first few days. Eventually the days would all roll into one for them, but those first few weeks and years, were a nonstop learning experience for a young dragon.
As the baby dragon flew away, it quickly learned how it's wings worked, those being the most important thing it would need for now, and the instinct to use them strong, especially in light of his particular species. The use of his wings came natural, and the dragon was soon flying like it had been practicing for years. The experience soon became old however, and it took off in search of food on lower grounds.
