Lol, we know that already. It's not been confirmed, but that was a very obvious thing. Most of us think that already, Quigley thinks it, it starts with volunteer and we know 'they put out fires'.
And although it hasn't been confirmed, we know it.

Actually the meaning of V.F.D as the volunteer fire department is confirmed in the books. Lemony Snicket said:
"There are many important words in the world, such as 'volunteer', 'fire' and 'department'..." How more glaringly obvious can he make it?

What's funny is that a few years ago, back before books 9 to 11 were published, my friend and I were guessing about what VFD could stand for. We were making up really weird things, like Volunteer Frog Doctors and the like, and then I said "It might beVolunteer Fire Department!" I must be psychic. blaugh

I sort of ruined the series for myself after book five. Straight after reading book 5, I researched VFD on Google, and it lead me to a few Volunteer Fire Departments. I didn't know it was suppossed to be such a big mystery. gonk

You know, if you look up VFD in the dictionary, it comes up as 'Volunteer Fire Department'... I know, I know, you guys already know that, but I just wanted to point out that it was pretty obvious.

I think they did actully state it was Volunteer Fire Department in book 11. I think it goes like; Klaus: But doesn't VFD mean Volunteer Fire Department. Widdershins: Fighting fires isn't the only thing we do...

Huh. I'm only on Book 9, but that was one of my first guesses, right after reading Book 5. Quigley said Volunteer, and then I thought about Fire Department. Plus, the clue in the movie was a big help.
