Drip~sploch, blink.
Drip~sploch, blink.
Drip~sploch, blink.
Fayin Tao had positioned herself near the forest's edge, her peach-wine gaze was on the branch above her. She'd found the perfect tree to sit under, though she'd felt something drip on top of her head. When she looked up she was delighted to find icicles. Every few minutes water would drip from the end of the longest and splat right onto the bridge of Tao's nose. She'd blink and continue to stare.
No need to tell you that she was getting rather wet just there, for she'd been there rather long and the icicle had managed to drip many times. Her stance was of that much like a statue, she stood perfectly still; minus the timed blinks.
After a few more moments and a few more drips she suddenly shook her head, standing in a swift motion and moving away from the tree. "Time to leave." She murmered to herself, giving the air a wolfish grin. The grin, as were all her grins, was short lived and no emotion overtook her features.
Her ears flickered as she moved along, slowly moving into the wooded area, she tried to detect hints of strangers. Her nostrils flared lightly, but after a while she slipped into her own thoughts, not aware of that which was around her any longer.

Winter had never really been the best time for Cheveyo being more of a summer wolf. Since he mainly resided on a beach he'd always have to deal with inclimate weather and nasty off-shore drafts. Though he had to admit the snow was beautiful no matter how or where it fell. Padding into a small wooded area he guessed he really couldn't complain about the situation much. At least he had a place to live, and with the ocean he never had to worry about going hungry. Even in winter there was a plethera of food swimming around him.
Shaking his long bushy neck fur he picked up his speed almost as if racing the snow as it vertically fell. Though he knew he wasn't going to win there was something about it that made him feel young again. Maybe it was the small puffs of cold air wuffling out his nostrils or the innocent sound of snow crushing under his paw pads. No matter what it was he was slowly becoming more inclinded to liking this blizzardy season.

So wrought was the snow, that it had finally started to abate. It was unlikely this was some sign of spring, but standing within the very brink of midwinter and waning winter, it felt good to think that lighter days were soon to be upon the woods. It was not of course to say that the great hulk of a wolf was adverse to the winter cold- but such was the season's strain on his mate that any shine the great white season had previously taken to him was fading as quickly as the breath on the wind, which at the moment, swirled slow circles around his blocky muzzle. The black brute stretched, lowering his precariously long form downwards, and inching his straight-legged forepaws forwards, pulling the tiny toes as far apart as he could muster as he worked circulation back into his lower regions. The back paws came next, one at a time, and finally the shoulders, until finally the coal dipped male had exhausted the last of his body's complaints. The muscles in his neck tightened slightly as he craned forward, pale green eyes rushing about to look upon the scenery.
It appeared to be raining, although in truth, the temperature had finally dropped enough so that some of the icicles hanging from the trees were slowly wasting away. The sight of it all was so surreal that it brought him to carefully observe them, letting one of the passing drips of water slide across his face. It was cool, and it stung at his scars slightly, and he withdrew before allowing himself anymore of the juvenile display. With a belligerent sneer, he furrowed his brow, pulling away from the glittering tubes of ice, and slowly pulling himself up the narrow slope.
He'd spent a lot of the day traveling, although it would be soon time to make his return to his lands. And such he had deemed them for now- for finally he was beginning to feel more like the wolf he had been some year ago. He was not so far as to be called arrogant- but Phib, for sure, was deeply aware of his own abilities, and being of some considerable stature of ego and diplomacy, he felt the desire to proclaim them as such.
It was only upon the return trip, when the black wolf first became aware that there were others within his midst. The scent at first was female, and intrigued him slightly, for he was never adverse to female company. The crown of his head shifted, glancing somewhat off the path of his home, and in the direction of the she. So curious were the wolves in these woods, that he did not wish to be without knowledge of a good lot of them- even of the vagabond kind. And with a turn of his long form, he moved towards the embankment, traveling upwards, and stopping just at the crest to peer slightly down the snowy path.
A pale brown female stood traveling, her face slightly wet, and looking generally amiable. There was a pleasant and youthful mannerism about the female which at once brought his mate to mind, and slightly filled him with some regimented affection.
The wolf sat himself down, curling his winter plumed tail about his broad hips, and slightly cocking his head as the female ambled by. "Ah- so passes a traveler." He spoke outwardly, his voice stern but pleasant. "Hello there, little She."

"I told you I knew the way out." The lynx snorted, his long black tipped ears pressed against the cuff of his neck, "Silly animals you canines... you'd think with your sense of smell a little canyon would be easy."The wolf made a face, shaking his head and rolling his eyes. Quite the catty one this- but he really had no choice. After he had gone to the grave of his old teacher- an elderly shaman wolf that had practically raised him as a pup- Byakko, the young and rather foolish wolf that had helped him navigate the canyon the first time around, had all but vanished. No doubt something in the air had caught his eye and like the fool he was he had taken off after it. Byakko's method of navigating, while effective, wasn't anything Rune cared to repeat. The jumping, climbing, running... he hadn't had the chance to mark a trail much less remember the way.
For a few days the wing-marked wolf had traveled in circles, hungry as anything but staying off the hunger pains by filling his belly with snow. That was when he met Hugo, a young lynx who had been fortunate enough to kill a hare for breakfast. At that point Rune had to fight off all instinct to kill he cat for his breakfast or drive him away from the hare to have a bit of meat for his breakfast. The cat would only have filled him for so long- and he'd still be lost.
After a good deal of coaxing and assurence that he was perfectally civil, Rune had managed to aquire a guide, and through the trip through the canyon- a friend. A cheeky friend, but a friend no less.
An unlikely pairing as well, Rune was half glad no other wolves had crossed his path. For one- as far as they were concerned only wolves spoke... foxes too but with a dumb accent. For two, if indeed other creatures did speak then they were still food... talking food.. but food. And three, a wolf getting help from a feline to find his way home. Obsurd, no matter the situation.

Tzufit had been wandering around all day, the cold snow only just now starting to get to him. With each step the young pup took, the frozen crystals crawled their way up his paws, making an uncomfortable stinging sensation.
Of course, the day hadn't started off like this. It had been much warmer in the morning, so Tzu thought he would do something different for a change. He wanted company. But now, as he was just about to walk down a steep hill without knowing it, he really wished he was back under his pile of dry, warm, pine needles.
As soon as he lowered his head and started to daydream, his paws slid out from under him and he tumbled down the snowy bank, landing belly-up in a pile of snow at the bottom. He clumsily stood up, then noticed the two adult wolves sitting under a large tree in front of him. Tzufit looked quizzically at them, a small pile of snow sitting on his muzzle.

The scents of others filled the peachy-brown female's nose as much as they had Phib's, Tao was just a little.. oblivious toward them. She began to pass the big, black male; her eyes slightly glazed, and slowed when noise filtered through her ears. It was unusual noise, not the noise of her thoughts. Words. Words were being spoken? She suddenly stopped, just past Phib.
She turned only her head, her gaze that so easily matched her pelt flickering over him. What was this? No patterns on his fur? But then her eyes caught sight of the scars, and they slid over them in such delight. Sure he was one color, but the scars made up for it, as did the light colored eyes.
"And so sits.." She paused. Well, that wasn't fun, what could she call him in response to traveler? "stand-still." So sits stand-still? What kind of nonsense was this? Upon his next words she her gaze flicked around, wondering who 'little she' was. That is, until she caught sight of Cheveyo, running toward the pair. She was also vaguely aware of Rune's scent, and his kitty-companion. She spoke no word of it though.
"You've been mistaken, that's no little-she." She was in no way dense, just a little slow sometimes. Tao thought that Phib ment Cheveyo for the 'little she', not herself. Something caught the corner of her eye, and she moved her head a fraction to look. "Puppy!" She exclaimed, head tilting as all attention was drawn to Tzu now. Her tail gave one, two, three wags and then was still again.

Slowing on the snow as the others seamed to come into view. Phib he reconized but the other two were new to him. Turning he troted up slowly to them all. "Well it's odd like this meeting up again." An invisable wave of anxiouty seamed to wash over him. Man he was such a moron last time he met Phib. He normally wasn't like that...it was just an odd moon for him.
"Well either way- it's nice to see you again..." His tail flicked back and forth slow as he thought to himself. And oddly enough, with another female. Wondering to himself he really couldn't see how some wolves got all the luck...but then again the black wolf did have some rather nice scars. Turning his head he looked down to the pup and smiled.

A slight fluctuation in wind pulled at his side, and the black wolf curled to the sensation. He felt the need to be bitter, but as of the most direct moment, he was feeling most pleasant. Even now there was bubbling the scents of other creatures stalking in the distance- but for the most part he let them go to the side without much of a remark. In fact, the only sign he gave at all as to his knowledge of the drifting smells, was a soft and indignant snort. He was the kind of beast which pleasantly chose company, but was not so accepting of vagabonds floating about his midst. Two of the nearby scents were already striking a form of de javu upon the great wolf, and he had to squint his brow as if to carefully observe his mental directory of such creatures.
A low chuckle fluttered across his jaw, noting the female's response. "So sits Phib." He uttered, his eyes rolling from her, and attempted to identify the fact that other creatures were steadily moving closer. He arched his ears quickly with a mark, but otherwise, did not domineer. "And, I would indicate you, my dear." His low voice uttered again, and found himself amused by her antics as she chased after the puppy.
One might have slated him as a wolf so quickly offset by those who appeared to be lacking in the typical norm of intellectual caliber. But it all honesty, he liked these wolves more then he liked the blunt and diplomatic people he associated himself- although he'd never let this on. All was fine between wisemen and fools, but when it came down to it, there was only one of the pair that would stick in bad times.
His pale eyes flickered, noting that another male was approaching him. Ah- that one. Although amused, he couldn't find himself to be too bitter to the male, as he approached him with a look of somewhat subdued intent. As long as he wasn't- well, being himself. "Hello there, Cheveyo." He remarked solidly, dipping his head at a slant.
And now, to the rest now so collected in this one area, he found himself pulling his head back and sliding his ears forwards. "I seem to have burst an artery of wolves." He remarked steadily. "Good evening."

Rune paused, his ears perking up as he neared the small group of wolves. A slight shudder overcame his body and sent him back a few steps, leaving his lynx companion a good yard ahead of him. Hugo also had noted the wolves but hadn't paid much mind to them. He had bested a wolf's speed many times and had spent many nights in trees to avoid them. He paused, confused by his companion's hesitancy. "What is it? They're your kind."
"Yes indeed...", Rune said quietly, watching the lot of them. They seemed familar with eachother... a pack perhaps. If so he was in a dangerious situation according to his current alpha. Not many wolves fancied his pack or the pack that they had alligned themselves to.
"Then I don't see the problem." Hugo raised an eyebrow, turning to look at the others.
"They might be a pack."
"Yes and?"
"An enemy pack!" Rune growled in annoyance, taking a few steps to be up to pace with his companion. Both paused to keep an eye on the wolves.
"Well kudos for your paying attention." The lynx snorted, giving Rune a scolding look that was only met with a glare.

The pup shook the excess snow off of his fur, and standing up on his sore legs, glanced up at the tan-colored female. She seemed excited to see him, and that made his spirits lift.
Cocking his head up at her, he asked, "What's your name? I'm Tzufit." He hadn't even noticed the other large male, who was watching the two.
(( Sorry for the wait xP ))

"Name?" Her head tilted. Ah the pesky titles. "Fayina Tao, shorten it as you will Tzufit! Do you know shortening things is just in a wolf's habbit?" She questioned, but she was momentarily distracted.
Her eyes floated back to the minty-green male. And she rose to her paws. But this did nothing, she just stood perfectly still. "What is a Phib?" Her mind wasn't quick enough to remember that Phib was a name, she hated names and didn't find them too important. "I ate deer the other day, it was quite a wonderful hunt, that one. A good chase, the fellow gave me." She said to Phib, obviously she was in one of her more 'difficult' moods, mistaking meaning all over the place.
"Is Phib the word for sit-still?" She asked, getting back to that topic. She moved passed the two males, curious of the scent that had not appear yet. "You hide from out eyes, but why?" She spoke this softly, to herself. Her tail hung limp as she continued to move foward, trying to match the two scents lingering in her nostrils with actual beings, seeing as she'd already matched three scents with three wolves. So why did two still linger?
"Perhaps phantom-scents." She murmered again to herself, it was obviously something she did often. And what phantom-scents were was up to anyone, really. The only thing that might be true of them were scents that were there but belonged to no one, but who knew with Tao's odd thinking patterns.

Cheveyo couldn't help but notice the females odd mannerizems. "He's Phib-" He nodded his head towards the black wolf. "Least thats his name anyways. I'm Cheveyo, but most people just call me Che." He shrugged not really minding what she called him. Twitching his ear he too noticed the hidden creatures not to far from them. Although it was weird, he heard the wolf....but then again there was something growling close by it, and not a wolf either. "Prehaps the reason why the other stranger hasn't shown themselves is because they are hunting themselves..." That'd be the only reason in his mind that he could hear Feline chatter.

Although he preferred the spot he was at, for thanks to a slide of ego he enjoyed the somewhat lofty position, the black creature decided it would be best to descend. He really wasn't that high on the snow drift- only about three feet. He supposed it didn't really matter, it was light company, and despite his urge to find something to be belligerent about, he was tame for the moment. A slight look of agitation did cross across his face for a moment, padding across the pale female and looking into the distance where a pale blue male conversed suspiciously with a lynx. It seemed like everyone was grabbing hold of the strange creatures these days, and he had to wonder if lynxes were secretly planning some sort of invasion. He was cautious of the felines, despite this. Their claws made for peculiar incidents. But from the place he stood, the wolf had still yet to make himself apparent to the others. He turned his head and feigned unrealization, and regarded the female with another low chuckle. "It means whatever it needs to mean, but otherwise, it is what I am called."
"Fayina Tao, and Tzufit." He remarked. Nodding his head, "And Cheveyo. Quite a collection of travelers." His stern voice remarked, and with a slump, lay down. "And where is such a group headed?" He questioned, wondering if the others had planned such a meeting. They did not smell like one another, so it was unlikely that they were traveling together as of yet- although he could not help but wonder, with such a collection. He gave a slight look at the pup, who was bounding around the tan She. His stiff expression softened somewhat, and he quirked his tail to the side.

Both watched for a long while, remaining silent and on guard. The Lynx had grown bored with the whole affair and had sat himself down to give his paw a good grooming. Rune took a short glance to him, rolling his eyes at the creature's overly laid back attitude in a potentially dangerous situation... but then again perhaps the pack wasn't hostile at all... and the lot of them might know a thing or two about where they were. Afterall, he had left his pack's lands a good deal ago, snow had fallen and it was difficult to scent his way back.
"They... don't seem hostile... what do you think?" Rune glanced down to the cat.
"I think you need to stop acting like a kitten and go ask for directions is what I think." Hugo said casually, not so much as lifting an eye from his grooming. "If you want I'll stay here... but if you insist I guess I can hold your paw and go with you."
"Oh do dry up." Rune growled as he started forward. He didn't at all look threatoning but there was something haunting about his eyes. He wasn't large or small for a wolf, no more built than was considered average though his legs did have a good deal of muscle after his trip. The lynx walked smoothely after him, holding his head up and giving just as catty of a grin as ever. He was nervous as well- but animals could smell fear and the best way to avoid that was fool one's self of the danger.
Once within earshot he simply cleared his throat, "...I do beg your pardon..."

Slightly confused by the way Tao spoke, Tzufit tried not giggle and replied to her, "Well, I guess you can just call me Tzu, then."
He turned his direction towards that of this 'Phib,' who Tao seemed to be talking to. After looking at the male wolf, the small pup wondered how he hadn't seen him before. He spoke very properly, something that Tzufit was not used to. He figured he should be polite and answer his question. "I don't know where anybody else is going, but I was go-" and then it suddenly dawned on him that he didn't know where he had been heading to. "-ing.....ummmm..." Hoping that the adult would get the hint that he had no clue what he was going to say, Tzufit mumbled the end of his sentence and stared at the white ground beneath his chilly paws.
He didn't have anywhere to go. He barely even had anywhere to sleep at night. It was a wonder that the pup was able to survive on his own, but somehow he had made it through his short life so far.

So one was Phib, the other Che and the pup Tzu? She didn't often shorten names but the two latter wolves had asked or mentioned shortenings. She wouldn't remember their names if she ever did meet them again anyhow. "I'm going where my paws bring me." Came her reply, tossed over her shoulder.
Her eyes were glued on Rune and the strange creature with him, though she was an adult she'd never seen a lynx. "What are you?" She asked, stopping just before the pair. But she couldn't keep watching Hugo, her eyes that so well matched her fur sook out the wolf's fur, moving over all the colors and patterns. Her maw parted just slightly, she loved patterns such as these, especially if they were nice to look at. If they were ugly colors that did not match that would be a different story all together.
And then her eyes caught his, and she stared. Something was odd about them, but Tao would never be able to put tooth nor paw on what.
