Kaisho had made his way to the training ground, the day was rather cloudy, looking as though rain might descend upon Sereitei. The lieutenant of Seventh Squad had seen better days of training, but by Bullene's request, Kaisho was asked to train today. Something had been troubling Kaisho for a while now, and though this training was long overdue mainly because of his own laziness, there was another thing on his mind. He seemed at ease today, his smile had returned after days of contemplation, but the thoughts were still in his mind about what discussions he, Bullene, and the rest of the Captains and Lieutenants talked about. He had seen it with his own eyes now, the winds of change ushered in a new generation over a surprisingly short amount of time. Kaisho wondered how long it would be before the winds shift... to him.

Kaisho sat with his Zanpakuto in his lap, meditating with crossed legs and his head hunched slightly over the wakizashi. His eyes were closed, but his expression was calm yet focussed. He was thinking, something he found himself doing quite a lot. He would think about the past now and again, but also at what the future had in store for him. He would also think of how his life as a Shinigami was at it's present state, thinking about the friends and comrades he had gained, and of all the experiences that made him who he is. Finally, after an hour of this meditation, Kaisho slowly opened his eyes to the overcast world around him once more. With a quick bat of his eyelids, Kaisho stretched out his body, his joints cracking and limbering as he jumped to his feet and smiled to himself.

"Are you ready?" The Seventh Squad Captain's voice rang in Kaisho's ears. He had walked up behind his Vice-Captain in informal training clothes. His hands were wrapped half-way up his forearms, while his ankles were bound, as well. The two of them would be speeding their way through training in the next few weeks, and Kaisho really needed to be ready. "If you are, then we may begin."

Kaisho heard the resounding voice of his Captain behind him, and turned to see him in rather informal training clothes instead of the traditional robes that Kaisho was wearing, It did, however, seem awefully like Captain Katsurou was very prepared to train Kaisho, noticing his arms and legs were wrapped up. The Vice Captain understood that this training would be extensive, and since he had never properly engaged in training with his Captain before, the mere thought gave him chills. He knew what type of training he would receive, and to be at that point where he might just attain a new level of grandeur, Kaisho wondered at what he could truly become. He had been the Lieutenant for a while now, but not nearly as long as most of the other Lieutenants in Sereitei at this moment in time. With that said, many of the Shinigami here had been part of Sereitei for much longer than he had, which made him feel honoured to be in the situation he was right now.

"Yes, Captain. I am ready." Kaisho replied with confidence.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 02, 2010 3:48 pm

Bull would show Kaisho that confidence was overrated as he invaded the Vice-Captain's space with a swift step off his left foot, extending out his right elbow, getting lower to the ground. Whereas, on a taller opponent, the Captain's attempted strike would strike the abdomen. However, Kaisho was shorter than average so the strike would pound him in the sternum.

Bull wasn't ready to completely pound on Kaisho yet. He wanted to see what his Vice-Captain could actually do. He hoped that he wouldn't be disappointed.

Bullene came at Kaisho with a quick step of his leg foot, and a strong right-armed punch. He’d lowered himself to Kaisho’s height by crouching a little in the process, and despite being a larger opponent, he was fast enough to strike; just not where he had intended. Kaisho manage to strafe his upper body to the right slightly with a backstep of his left foot, turning it quickly left in the process. However, Bullene’s powerful punch followed through, and grazed past Kaisho’s shoulder with the index and middle knuckle of his fist. The punch threw Kaisho into an involuntary corkscrew, as his body had not fully planted on the left foot before Bullene connected, and the momentum of forces pulled his body into the motion. After one revolution, Kaisho was still reeling from the painful strike, but managed to plant his right hand on the ground to halt further revolutions, pushing back into a kneeling position a little way back from his Captain, clutching at his left arm on one knee.

As Kaisho snarled in pain, he inhaled through his gritted teeth. He could only think of how stupid it made him feel in front of his Captain. To fall just short of dodging a simple straight punch, no matter who or how well is was executed, was rather humiliating for him. His confidence had wavered slightly after that, but ushered in a degree of anxiety that sharpened his senses; to prepare him for trickier attacks. He exhaled softly, relaxing his intense grimace whilst returning to a standing position. The pain began to dull a little, helped by the stetching out of his left arm to release some of the tension. He started to think of what his Captain would say, and what he would be thinking about this rather unexpected start.

'Unexpected' would describe what Bull said to Kaisho. "Peekaboo!" Bull's voice came from behind Kaisho, rather He yelled as he appeared behind his Vice-Captain, above his head. Bull's knees landed upon each of his VC's shoulders, supporting his weight. The captain had clasped his hands together as he raised them high in the air. Bull began to build his reiatsu up in the space between his palms. His hands began to glow an eerie white as he brought his elbows down in an attempt to hammer the top of his Vice Captain's head. While he did so, Bull shot his reiatsu from the top of his hands, straight towards the intended surface of impact.

Kaisho heard the unsual uttered response to what he was thinking, and before he knew what was occuring, Bullene had his knees upon Kaisho’s shoulders readying an elbow smash. Kaisho was stunned, looking up to see his Captain’s elbows staring back at him. The Vice Captain had little time to be shocked, much less react to the predicament he was in. “s**t...” Was the only word to come from Kaisho’s mouth as the elbow smash came down, and the only thing he could do at that time was make sure his head was not crushed in the process. Kaisho’s head moved to the left, and in its stead, the muscle bewteen his neck and right shoulder caught the brunt of the agonising impact, and pushed the Shinigami to his knees, expressing his pain with a loud bark. Even the ground beneath them crumbled from the force of Kaisho being forced to his knees by the smash, which had now left Kaisho wincing with intense displeasure, his right arm in too much pain and discomfort to move. In fact, his whole body felt the force of it send shockwaves through his body, and his vision blacked out for a second after, the bloodflood to his brain being momentarily cut off at the moment of impact.

Bull placed his hands around Kaisho's neck for one moment, increasing his grip for a moment. The distinct CRACK of a single vertebrae slipping back into place would signal the return of full blood-flow to Kaisho's brain. It was a small favor for his Vice-Captain. While Bull was going out of his way to ensure Kaisho was nearing death, he wasn't going to actually kill him.

The Captain slid off of his Vice-Captain's back, stepping back a few yards, allowing him to readjust his bearings. "Come now!" He called. "You can't honestly think you can be a successful Lieutenant when you fight like that!" He teased Kaisho. "You aren't coming at me with your all." He said. "I want to see some fireworks!" He said with a distinct laugh. "Now, get up!" He said, the timbre of his voice becoming serious once more. "Or I'll make you stand." Bull's reiatsu thickened as the dust began to drift away from him.

The crack in his vertebrae relieved the flow to his brain, and Kaisho watched as his Captain stepped back to allow his Lieutenant time and space to regather his bearings and thoughts. Despite this being a fight with a serious risk of death, he could tell that Bullene upheld a sense of courtesy to his subordinate. To return the gesture his Captain had given him, Kaisho knew what he had to do. Kaisho quickly rose to his feet. “Thank you, Captain Katsurou...” Kaisho said humbly, pivoting his neck to promote quicker bloodflow, whilst stretching out the ache in his right trapezius muscle. Kaisho backflipped a moment later, judging how the ache felt after the exercise. The pain was still present, but significantly dulled compare to moments before. With one last rub on his shoulder, Bullene’s Lieutenant crouched into a fighting stance, his right foot taking the further forward position. “For letting off lightly just now, I won’t disappoint you.” Kaisho said, his reiatsu manifesting into a veil of icy blue reiatsu as it rose significantly. Utilising his reiatsu, Kaisho suddenly exploded into a sprint.

With his speed augmented by the flow of reitasu through his body, Kaisho closed the short distance with ease, coming at Bullene with his right forearm cocked back across his chest, and his upper body turned to the left. Kaisho’s strides stopped when his right foot planted in parallel to the rest of his body, and like a piston, Kaisho’s right elbow jolted towards Bullene’s upper abdomen. He then came around with his left arm, twisting his upper body to face Bullene while he performed a straight punch almost immediately after his first attempt, aiming to strike at his Captain’s sternum. Lastly, Kaisho twisted the lower half of his body, pivoting on the ball of his right foot. As his left foot came into his Captain’s view, it was held aloft and parallel to his hip. He had his leg bent back until a swift swing brought it around to attempt to make contact with Bullene’s side, aiming to hit the kidney region as well as the bottom two rib bones with a roundhouse kick.

Bull always knew that Kaisho had certain qualities that were the same that consisted of a good leader. The one that he admired the most would be tenacity, which Kaisho obviously didn't lack. Kaisho had showed that quality the first time he had trained him during group sessions. He had no fear of taking on a Captain, even though he was just a new recruit. The Captain took notice of these things. Kaisho's rewards were just and deserved.

So when Bull looked at his Vice-Captain, through his veil of focus, the tiniest hint of pride leaked through as he stood to face his superior once more. As Kaisho took his stance, Bull followed suit. He kept his feet close, his left foot slightly in front, on which he kept the majority of his weight. His right hip angled slightly back as he put his left shoulder slightly forward, putting his left arm up, almost horizontal, with his left hand limber, placed by his chin. His right hand was placed by his sternum, a few inches from his chest. His stance ensured that his weight was in front of him, along with his hands.

Bull began to read Kaisho as he used his reiatsu to propel himself forward. Bull's reiatsu sense allowed him to perceive his opponents without sight. The flow of Kaisho's energies, along with Bull's seemingly endless experience teaching his Vice-Captain, gave him insight to Kaisho's style. As the elbow came to meet Bull's abdomen, his right hand came into action. Using his soft approach, Bull's hand met the left side of Kaisho's elbow, the inside of his arm, and pushed it to the outside, Bull's left.

Natural body flow would ensure that Kaisho's following attack would, in fact, come more easily, as his twisting body would increase the velocity of his punch. However, Bull's left hand met Kaisho's, once again, redirecting it to Bull's left.

Kaisho's follow up to his punch followed everything that he had been taught by his Captain. Kaisho's approach redirected the energies that his opponent took to ensure that his attacks failed, and put them into his next attack. Kaisho's out-swinging leg was the result of his efforts, though those efforts would be in vain. Just as Kaisho's attacks would flow, so would Bull's defense.

As he redirected Kaisho's fist wide to his own (Bull's) left, Bull forced his weight off of him to turn his body back to its previous position. Bull was still keeping his weight on his left leg, allowing him to freely maneuver his right leg, which rose to meet Kaisho's. He kept his leg close, bending at the knee. Their shin's clashing, Bull felt only the slight pain of bone on bone, as many of his nerve-endings had been damaged from his combat experience.

Kaisho's efforts were definitely valorous, though ineffective. With all of Bull's experience over his Vice-Captain, Hakuda wouldn't achieve the greatest success for Kaisho, which Bull would demonstrate. Bull pushed Kaisho's leg away slightly, and in one motion, used the sole of his foot to force Kaisho's foot to the floor as he lowered his stance, which allowed his heel to lock his Vice Captain's leg down from the ankle.

Bull pulled his leg in, twisting Kaisho's body back to face him. Now with both feet upon the ground below him, Bull rolled onto his hands before using his abdominal muscles to pull his body upright. He launched himself up and over his Vice-Captain, who would be crouching, due to his leg's angle to the ground. And while Bull vaulted himself over his Vice-Captain, he brought back his right heel in an attempt to hammer the back of Kaisho's head.

Landing on his left foot, Bull only had choice words for Kaisho. "You need to push past what you know," He said, "Cross the line into the unknown."

It was clear that it was a battle between master and student, the clarity coming from the impressiveness of their movement. Such fluidity in attack and defence made it clear that these were not just mere strangers engaging in combat, nor were they inept at what they did. It was clear from the way Kaisho attacked, and in the way Bullene defended, they share a certain connection as well as a high degree of skill. However, the master had the upper hand in this fight, having far more experience in the martial arts than the student. This was something that Kaisho had been aware of from the beginning, and even though he was pinned down by his Captain, he was proud to have shown the fruits of his Captain’s labour.

He felt his body crouch as his Captain vaulted over him, Kaisho looked back to see where his Captain would land and what he planned to do. Bullene’s right heel came down at the back of Kaisho’s head, with Kaisho again, like with the elbow attack earlier on, not being able to do much in response. However, he was pinned down by Bullene’s weight before, whereas this time Kaisho had mobility. He used this effectively, dropping to his chest as he rolled left of the attack three times, dodging his Captain’s effort whilst giving him enough of a gap to get up and step away if need be. He did so, pushing his body up from the third tumble by rolling onto and over his shoulder, pulling his knees towards his stomach so that he could push his legs straight again the moment they touched the ground.

With considerable distance between them, close combat was only possible if either Shinigami decided to lunge into a short sprint, with Shunpo being an unnecessarily short step to perform as a flipside. Kaisho stood mystified at the words his Captain had spoken, even with Kaisho’s critical thinking, and his own tendency to speak in riddles, he had a hard time deciphering the hidden meaning. “Push past… what I know?” Kaisho asked, his stutter was that of someone speaking with his thoughts whirling like a monsoon. “Cross the line… into the… unknown?” He asked again, still thinking about what this could mean. Kaisho had his ideas, but still, they could have been vastly different from what his Captain truly meant when he chose those words.

With one idea flickering vividly in his mind, Kaisho quickly unsheathed his Zanpakuto. His eyes gave way the lack of fighting intent at that moment, as they wandered from Bullene to the wakizashi he drew from the scabbard sitting across the small of his back. It occurred to Kaisho that the words were meant exactly as they were pronounced, but upon that realisation came another question. How? How was Kaisho going to push past what he knew, and cross that line into the unknown? In his mind it sounded like an impossible task. It suddenly occurred to him that it only seemed impossible because, up until now, Kaisho could not think of anything that gave him the drive to ascend. He swung the wakizashi forcefully to his left side, uttering “Canter.”as he stared back at his Captain. Suddenly his reiatsu spiked, creating an aura of icy blue light around his body whilst bringing thick pressure to the atmosphere around them.

“I still don’t know how exactly I’m going to push past this limit of mine, Captain, but looking back to what led me to where I am now reminded me that there was a trigger point. I obtained Shikai shortly after an event that transpired on Earth, an event that I now believe was the key to me crossing that first line into the unknown.” Kaisho began to ramble. “I want to cross that line a second time, so I ask you this: Come at me… come at me, and do not stop until you feel my life ebbing away. Come at me…” He added, gulping nervously before ending with, “…as if you are going to kill me.”

With Kaisho's words, Bull became all smiles. He crossed his arms as he reached for his twin Zanpakuto, which were mounted upon his belt. This was the most thrilling battle he had partaken in for some time. He would be sure to not miss his chance to go all-out, something his Vice-Captain needed to follow suit on. Gripping the handles of his Zanpakuto, he felt the cold rush of Kaisho's Shikai taking effect. "I think I shall follow your lead," The Captain said, turning to face his Vice-Captain. "Releasing my Zanpakuto, that is." He said, drawing his Zanpakuto as he called his next words.

"Break through your enemy," He shouted as his two Zanpakuto glowed red. Steam began to rise around Bull as the heat around him began to rise, melting the frozen humidity at the meeting point of his Vice-Captain's and his own Reiatsu. "Yatakeni!"

The glow of the red blades seemed to be sucked away onto the Captain's arms as they reformed into plates of heavily oxidized metal. As the Captain's Reiatsu increased to a density thicker than before, golden flames ignited upon the surface of his gauntlets. Extending his arms in a short rotation, Bull clenched his fists as he pulled them into a ready-position by his belt, quenching the golden flames, revealing the shimmering plates that rested above the rusted inner armor.

Once his reiatsu stabilized, Bull relaxed his stance, raising his left palm to Kaisho from behind the steam shroud. The plates of his gauntlets expanded as he gathered Reiryoku into the center of his hand. "I'll honor your request..." He said, firing a beam of concentrated white fire at his Vice-Captain from behind the veil of the steam they created. It pierced a defined hole in the shroud as it scorched its way to Kaisho.

Kaisho stood nervously as he waited for his Captain to release his Shikai in response. It was rare for him to see his Captain’s Zanpakuto in its Shikai state, particularly because they really fought by each other’s side or against one another. Unfortunately, the moment between seeing Bullene’s Shikai and the following shroud created by their contrast in elements was brief, but was awe-inspiring to see those golden gauntlets. From behind the mist Kaisho heard Bullene’s say that he honour that request, and not much longer than a second later, a white stream of fire torched cleanly through the blanket of steam.

The Lieutenant instinctively reacted, pulling the broad side of his Zanpakuto up to block the fire’s path, taking advantage of its new Scimitar form’s shape and size in comparison the its sealed state. The intense heat from the attack was extraordinary, it made him uncomfortable being so close to it for a short amount of time. Not only that, but stopping an attack like this was a strain he did not want to endure for longer than necessary. Kaisho tilted his blade at an angle whilst pushing off like a parry away from the white fire, using the force of the attack to slid to the right.

As he skidded to a stop, Kaisho bent his legs slightly and leapt up into the air. He managed to clear the steam, and set his sights on Bullene the moment his vision became unhindered. Kaisho raised his Zanpakuto up, swinging it down with a great deal of force to propel a crescent arc of cold energy towards his Captain. On the downward swing, Kaisho released streams of sharp-tipped ice from four of the tasselson the Scimitar’s back edge. While Kaisho was indeed on the attack, and planned to use Tsuibi Hyouchuu as a follow up to his first attack, he only deployed four so that he was not caught completely off-guard.

'Finally fighting back...' Bull laughed to himself as he built reiatsu in his gauntlets. His right gauntlet began to cause refractions in the air around it as it rose in temperature. He raised that hand, readying an expulsion of heat as his left hand began to build in energy. Rather than increasing in heat, the plates that composed of the gauntlets began to repel one another. Sparks began to arc between each plate as he readied his response for each of Kaisho's attacks.

Meeting the oncoming wave of arctic energy, Bull sent the back of his hand to dismiss the attack, essentially melting it with his heat. Meanwhile, his left hand shot out to grasp the four tendrils, which he caught. He used his grip to wrap the icy cords around his gauntlet, which sent electrical current up to Kaisho. "You can't simply use your Zanpakuto! Be one with it!" He called to his Lieutenant.

The current surged down the cords of ice, putting Kaisho in a lot of pain as electricity travelled around him as though he were a living circuitboard. The heat from taking a direct hit from electricity sent vapours from his body and clothes, and left Kaisho noticeably short of breath, dropping to one knee as the shock subsided. “You’re still not... coming at me... hard enough, Captain.” Kaisho stuttered with stern words, dragging himself to his feet with the use of his large Zanpakuto. Shakily, he gripped Kangetsu tighter, dispelling the ice cords to beautiful little ice particles that shimmered as they fell softly to feet. He stood there panting for a moment; his shoulders rose and fell with the rhythmn of his breaths, averting his sight from the floor to his Captain. “I can’t become one... with Kangetsu... unless you do.”

Suddenly, Kaisho came charging swiftly at Bullene, his Zanpakuto veiled with a slightly off-white hue as the reiryoku began to stockpile around the Scimitar. Kaisho slashed vertically at his Captain from a distance just short of his sword’s reach, cold reiatsu shooting from the blade in its crescent form once again. He then followed up with the use of the six Tsuibi Hyouchuu on the blades edge, instead announcing “Gaten” instead of “Heki”, opting to ensnare his Captain’s appendages, neck and torso rather than outright injure him. Kaisho then had the pommel’s tassel form a tsuibi hyouchuu to pierce into the ground beneath him, but focussed his attention on his Captain the whole time.
