okay so i was just asked to be the color garud instructor for this band. They have not had an instructor for many years and i do not know what i should do. Does anyone have any ideas of how they would handle this situation?

its not that i don't want to be their instructor, i realy would like to do it. Its just that i have no ideal on what to do first. i mean how should i act the first time i meet them? What should i say? Should i let do what they have been doing and help them out with cleaning the work? I don't want to pull them completly out of their element, none of them will be used to having an instructor. I mean they go to rehersal and the only thing the other instructors can help them with is marching and telling that they need to rethink their work.

First off, make sure there is communication between you and your color guard team or squad, I don't know what they call it. Be open and say, "Look, I'm new, I wanna help you guys, but I still want you to feel comfortable." Be kind and be a good listener, but also be disciplined. I've seen coaches try to befriend their team and then they'll just walk all over the coach. Try new things, and talk about it. Did it work for them? Ask for suggestions from the color guard. Perhaps there is a parent or teacher willing to help out. Instruct, but allow them to feel comfortable to communicate with you. Without communication and trust, you will not do well. Good luck with whatever you choose!!!
(i wanna be a psychologist. i hope the advice helps ;D)

just be as bossy as you can...no not really,

inferno has good advice, mostly from color gaurds i've seen instructor talks with the whole guard, practice makes perfect, and of course make sure they memorize everything correctly. its pretty simple advice but only slightly harder to do.
