Held together by our bonds. Pressed tight against you I was sure we'd never be separated. Swamp water. We're out of balance, we both know it. You turn back, the clear water pulling away from the mud and swirling about your hooves. Everything you need is here and nothing needs to change.

I'm turning away from you and I fight it, trying to make the clear water muddy again. The more franticly I fight the more determined you are. The earth at my feet dries and cracks. Neither of us wanted to say good bye but the harder I run for you the further away you are.

Even as we're parting ways neither of us understand that this is the end of your story and the beginning of mine.

I would wake screaming.
