Long silky curtains drape around the windows. Candelabras of wrought iron fill the ballroom with flickering light. Victorian era furniture upholstered with red velvet edges the room. A bar serving every drink imaginable is at one side of the room while an orchestra sits in a small box on the other side, 20 ft above the dance floor. Here, frills are masculine, high heals are required, and a little moonlight never hurt anyone.
Scarlet and and her brother Devonte wait as ever gracious hosts, open arms to all visitors. "Welcome, my lovelies, to the Gothic Waltz."

it was another warm night, Twi was feeling very energetic for it. he loved summer nights, even if he hated the season for the days. it was a perfect night to enjoy more of the Ball.
he was originally going to go back to Hades Palace again, but he got an invitation from his friend Scarlet to another Ball. he decided to stop by there instead. who knew what would go down there, he hadn't been to the Vampire parties in a long while, before the whole Kuro Gang ordeal in fact.
he donned his best clothes, lit a Cigar, and stepped through his Portal to the nearest spot to his destination. then set off.
arriving at the wrought-iron gate, he was checked by two bouncers in armour, and admitted to the lavish manor. inside was a beautifully furnished setting which made his eyes almost water. he felt embarressed and briefly wished he'd brought his shades along after all. it was only among the Vampires that he ever went without them though, and he stood by his decision.
"Val! is that you?" a voice called out to him. he turned in it's direction, and there was Samuel. "i havn't seen you in ages my friend! where have you been?"
"Sam, what a surprise! i've missed you, how are you?"
"i asked first." Sam pressed.
"i was off getting married, and then dealing with trouble. i appologize for not keeping in touch." he bowed.
"married? and i wasn't invited?" teased Sam.
"i'd have invited you, but it was partially a smack in the face of the Black Ops, and there would have been trouble." he replied.
"just as long as you are alright. i never expected you to settle down though, of all people..."
Twi chuckled, and then they both poured themselves drinks.

Devonte casually walked over to the two gentlemen sharing drinks at the bar. He knew them by reputation of course--they were friends of Scarlet--but it was only proper to introduce himself and formally welcome them to the ball.
"Sirs, it is a pleasure to have you in attendance," he interjected, his voice as cool as an old grave. He was not one for polite small talk, but he made the effort for his sister's sake. "I am afraid Scarlet is occupied momentarily with other guests, but as you are such honored friends, may I suggest another vintage to share." He reached under the bar and drew up a dusty bottle of spirits.

they both turned and smiled graciously to their host, bowing. he was dressed in the usual attire of Scarlet's family, and so they recognized him as her brother.
"what a delightful idea, i don't mind if i do." Twi responded. he and Sam each finished their drinks in a quick gulp, and toasted their empty glasses, before holding them out for the new wine.
"only on the condition that you share some with us." bade Samuel.

Devonte nodded to Samuel as he poured the expencive ruby liquid into the profered glasses. He reached behind the bar and retrieved a glass for himself, pouring a scant inch of wine into the bulb of the glass.
"To your health, gentlemen," he said, raising his glass in a toast.

"to our Health!" they said in unison, and sipped.
"so, when do you think dear Scarlet will be available to speak to?" Twi asked. he was honestly a bit nervous to join the larger crowd, afraid of being mistaken for one of the more racist of his base race. the last Vampire he attended was on he crashed along with sworn enemies of Vampire kind. and being a Dark Elf Vampire was not easy for him, on either side.

Devonte smiled tolerantly. "My dear sister will be along when it damn well suits her. You need not worry about any lingering issues from your last gala as my sister has invited a...variety of guests." He shook his head, remembering their argument--or rather his heated protests and her complete disregard of them. "Our good father would be rolling in his grave if he knew of this ball, pardon the pun. You would be wise, gentlemen, to not flash your smiles too brightly."

Twi merely broke out into roarous laughter, as though it were all just sarcastic rhetoric. Sam was less amused however, and more cautious. he stayed, silent, keeping his smile, but not flashing his teeth.
"i'll go waltz around a bit, you two. i'll catch up again later." he said, and then wandered into the crowd.
Twi composed himself with a chuckle. "heheh... she always was a busy-body, that one. but tell me, Devonte, was it? how have things been around these parts since i last was here?"

"Since you last visited, Lord Arturo and Lady Drusilla have disappeared. Our sister, little Dyre has taken up residence in Shi Lanka, but I do not know what she does there. Scarlet, despite all her bad ideas has managed to keep the nearby townspeople from storming our castle. She does have a certain...charm about her," Devonte conceded. "I just look after my father's business affairs and try to talk some reason into Scarlet. It never works." He drained his glass before continuing. "If you're curious about politics in this area, Scarlet has managed to do away with them. She always hated politics--they got in the way of her games. You remember Count Torrent to the north? He just picked up and left two years ago--left his ancestral home of 6 centuries because Scarlet said 'pretty please.' Although I suspect she said a little more, she has not let me in on the particulars."

"heheheh... well, i suppose that's very good and refreshing, even if it means less of the fun. i always did enjoy messing with his head." Twi's smile disapeared though and was replaced with a look of concern now.
"but goodness, is it entirely safe for the shortling to be on her own? i'm not quite sure whether i should be more worried for her or for whoever she's around, but eitherw ay i don't trust her to be unsupervized."

Devante gave Twi a cold look. "Little Dyre is just like our mother, and you remember what a mess Lady Drusilla made of France in the 1800s. If Dyre is satisfied playing a goddess in a temple on a remote island, all the better for her and humanity. More?" He offered the bottle of spirits to Twi.

"heh." the Elf chuckled, tipping his empty glass to accept the offered drink. "you forget i wasn't born in the 1800's. i'm not that much older than a century."
"still, it sounds like an interesting story... perhaps you'd be willing to tell me about it?" he grinned.

Devante smiled as he poured Twi another drink. "I trust your age doesn't prevent you from studying history? The bloody battles of the french revolution were in no small way prompted by Lady Drusilla's hand. Nothing of her influence was recoded by history, you understand. Lord Arturo made sure of that. Drusilla wasn't just interested in feeding off the forgotten. Her blood-lust went right to licking the blade of the guillotine after the aristocrats were beheaded, and feasting on the children left behind. She had a certain affinity for the Snow White tale, and took every opportunity to...recreate it, but with a victory for the step mother. So she ate the children's hearts and livers. After that, she took delight in haunting Napoleon's battlefields. Fifty years after the first revolution, she incited another, but Lord Arturo prevented it from becoming the blood bath of years earlier. That is when he escorted her into exile. He believed that she was too dangerous to live among humans, and if he had not been madly in love with her, I think he might have shoved her into the dawn himself. I have not heard from my father for decades."

Twi shuddered at the gruesome tale, and attempted to make it look like he simply had too much wine.
"i can't imagine what kind of 'act of love' imprisoning an immoral is though... still, she gets what she deserves. bloody witch!" he spat the last phrase with contempt, taking a hearty gulp of the beverage in his glass. he truely couldn't stand the thought of innocent children being murdered.
he seemed to slip into deep thought, looking away toward the floor and yet not at it. it hadn't even crossed his mind that he'd just insulted his hosts' mother.

Devonte was pragmatic about the tale, gruesome as it was. "Such is our burden that some rare few of us must go mad. My father was torn between sentencing his beloved to pit to fry with the morning sun or sentencing her to a life in exile and himself as her warden. Some eighty years ago I received a letter from Northern Russia. Apparently the extreme summers help keep my mother under control." He poured himself another glass and threw it back quickly. It was the only outward indication of his distress over the state of his family. It was a heavy burden to be the eldest and only son of such a noble man as Arturo and an evil demon as Drusilla, especially with two little sisters who might turn into the terror that bred them. Scarlet was fairly safe, he was sure. She liked her games, and even though she had Drusilla's flair for dramatic storytelling, Scarlet preferred the rolls of fairy-god-mothers, near-miss seductresses, and occasionally teaching young fools to be careful what they wished for. No mater how sticky Scarlet's games became, her silent heart was good. If mischievous.
Dyre, on the other hand...Devonte poured another drink, thinking of his grey-eyed sister in the east. Desperate to change the topic, he pried more than normal.
"So you must tell me, as Scarlet never has, how it is you came to be such good friends with my sister?" he asked.
